Regarding Point SYstems on technet

Hi Geeks and moderators,
1)Just want to know how the point system works on technet as how many points for correct, quickly answered, voted answers.
I realized have given several answers which are correct as per google information still no one marks it as answer.
So when does moderator checks them to mark them answer as we are investing bit of time for solving.. not asking for credits but for self learning we can be sure that our answer was correct ..helping in interviews:)
2) I asked question and then one lady responded but when i ask for second time nobody is responding so when does moderatorlooks into such questions day or two or week.

The policy of individual moderators can vary, but it is recommended that they wait 5 to 7 days after the last reply before marking answers, to give the original poster time to mark answers. In the meantime, the moderator, or anyone, can mark proposed answers.
The guidance I have used is here:

  • Concern regarding new weblog point system....

    All,
Have you seen the <a href="/people/sap.user72/blog/2006/02/15/top-weblogs-of-all-time-3-to-0">blog</a> by Craig? What concerns me is the weblog point system mentioned by Craig - weblog must be "<b>live</b>" for 5 days to recieve more than 40 base points. I believe "live" will be judged based on the number of hits !!
What concerns me more is, the developer ares which has a lesses number of active users will never get a chance to grow !! I come from MDM area which got a reincarnation an year ago and even the number of users is very very less in MDM area, it still has got lot of audience during the past few months. I am the Top contributor in MDM forum with just 232 poiunts as of today. But, the fact is, I keep my sdn open almost 12 hours a day and this has been going on for an year or so.... It was/is  very hard to keep my enthusiasm alive during the initial days.
But, with the kind of point system mentioned by Craig, people like me trying very hard to keep up the enthusiasm will start losing it forever !! This type of point system is meaningful for the areas which recieve atleast 10 blogs per week ! Just to give you an idea, MDM has just 72 blogs altogether even from the days before MDM 5.5 existed....My blog on "Master Data Management & Spend Analysis" had just 1305 hits even though it was on the MDM Home page as a featured blog for 2 months !!
<b>Craig:</b> Please re-consider your decission and do not take any steps to demotivate people like me working very hard in the "developing" areas of community. Hope you understand.....:)
    Any support for me???
    Regards,
    Rajani Kumar

I think there has been a slight misunderstanding.
"<b>LIVE</b>" means that if a blog is published on Feb. 16 then it will not be reviewed for points evaulation until Feb. 21.
Often times in the past we received multiple mails from those wanting their points immediately - this does not fly anymore the community should have a chance to review and evaluate as much as we do.
No worries for the amount of activity in each area that plays no role

  • PLEASE HELP ME TO FIND THE SOLUTION REGARDING "LOGICAL SYSTEM CHANGED"

    HAI EVERYBODY,
PLEASE HELP ME TO FIND THE SOLUTION REGARDING "LOGICAL SYSTEM CHANGED" during the material master replication by using middleware parameters.
step1 : i have taken SRM client 810 and named it as CHINNISRM
    step2 : i  have taken r3 client 810 and named it as CHINNIR3
step3: During material master replication i maintained tables like crmconsum, crmrfcpar, crmparoltp in   r3   and smofparsfa in srm client and filtered the objects and loaded the objects through r3ac3,r3ac1,r3as.
step4 : And later i have checked in r3 queues to activate the objects, but i have seen a message like  "LOGICAL SYSTEM CHANGED:SEE 588701".according to the oss instructions i have checked in CRMPRLS table in se16 in R3 .there i found out there is one logical client  named with T90CLNT810.
    oss :588701
    Solution
There are different cases in which different forms of processing are
required or where several options exist:
    - The logical system name of an R/3 Backend client was changed in
current operation. In this case, the data hangs in the outbound
queues of the R/3 Backend system as specified under point 1 of
the symptom. In this case, the logical system name must be
changed back to the original value. Then the outbound queues
can be reactivated. If no data was transferred to the EBP/CRM
server before the change, also a correctioin of the check table
    is possible.
    - The same logical system name was used again in a new client of
an R/3 Backend system that was linked to the EBP/CRM server. In
this case, the data is in the inbound queue of the EBP/CRM
server with the exception GUID_FOR_LOGSYS_CHANGED. In this
case, the queue entries which have status SYSFAIL must be rejected, however, not the entire queues. If the new client of  the R/3 Backend system you have linked has exactly the same
data as the old client and if it is meant to replace the old
client (that is, this was deactivated), also a correction of
the check tables is possible. In this case, the inbound queues
can be reactivated after the correction.

    1. If the situation in your system corresponds to the situation described
under "Reason and Prerequisites" and if symptom 1 occurs, you can
delete the table entry from table CRMPRLS table (there is just one
entry). Since there is no maintenance dialog for this table and you
cannot maintain it using transaction SE16, you must use a report to
delete it. This report is attached to this note as correction
    instructions.
Create the report ZZ_DELETE_CRMPRLS in your system and copy the source
code from the correction instructions. You cannot implement this
    source code using transaction SNOTE.
You can use the report in every plug-in or plug-in basis system, even
if it is not specified in the validity section.
After you have run the report, you can trigger existing queues again
    in transaction SMQ1.
    2. If the situation in your system corresponds to the situation described
under "Reason and prerequisite" and if symptom 2 occurs, you can
delete the entry from table CRMMLSGUID (there is just one entry).
Since there is no maintenance entry for this table and you cannot
maintain it using transaction SE16, you must use a report to delete
it. This report is attached to this note as correction instructions.
If they do not yet exist, add the following messages to message class SMOF in your logon language:
    Message Message short text
303 User &1 is not allowed to change table &2.
304 User &1 IS not allowed to display table &2.
305 Logical system &1 was not found in table &2.
306 System error! The current client was not
    found in table T000.
Create the report ZZ_DELETE_CRMMLSGUID in your system and copy the
source code from the correction instructions. You cannot implement
this source code using transaction SNOTE.
You can use the report for every release of the CRM system, even if it
is not specified in the validity section. The only exceptions are CRM
releases with Support Package versions that are too low such as CRM
Release 3.0 with Support Package 12.
After you have run the report, you can trigger existing queues again
in transaction SMQ1 of the R/3 back-end system or transaction SMQ2 of
    the CRM system.
so what should i do to do the replication.please suggest me .untill and unless i solve my problem i cant move to the further activity.i hope you people can solve my problem.thanks in advance.
    thanks and best regards,

  • Clarification Regarding Logical System Names

    HI all,
I read the blogs regarding Logical System Name, even I am having the some problems in my system.
For PI system client is 100.
R/3 System Client is 100 is created.
IN PI when I checked the sale->basic setting-> LOgical Settings-> Assign Logical Systems
I found there is only one client 100, and it is having the same logical system name as 'PICLNT100'.
In SLD one Business System is created for Client 100 and having the Logical System Name is 'PICLNT100'.
When I checking in the R/3 system that logical system Name ('PICLNT100')  is not there  and for r/3 client 100 having the different logical system name.
IN ID when I found the Goto ID->File Buinsess system and Menu ->Services->Adapter Specific Identifiers->Logical Ssytem,
It is different from the SLD logical System Name.
How Can I know in PI, that Logical System is belongs to r/3 or PI client 100,
when I running the sceanrio it is giving error as ATTRIBUTE_INV_SND_SERV while doing the file to Idoc scenario.
How I have to maintain the logical system names in this case?
    please help me in this.
    Regards,
    Sree

    hi.
each r3 system has his own SLN (PI,BI,ECC,etc). this name identify each R3 sytem.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/78/217dc151ce11d189570000e829fbbd/frameset.htm
IN ID when I found the Goto ID->File Buinsess system and Menu ->Services->Adapter Specific Identifiers->Logical Ssytem,
to export data of your R3 system to SLD, just do it from TCODE RZ70 in your r3 system, not PI.
once you configure it all data from r3 system is exported to SLD.
if the SLN does not match in Adapter Specific Identifiers->Logical Ssytem, edit the Bussines System (press in the little pencil) go to Adapter Specific Identifiers->Logical Ssytem and prees in the little hand icon. in the SLN in not refresh, go to menu enviroment--> CLEAR SLD DELTA CACHE. and repeat the steps before.
each time you send data to an R3 system and the sender system is a legacy. in your receiver communication channel>header mapping>sender system--> select the PI Bussines system and try again.
    hope its helps

  • Points System Design Flaws

I'm not here for points, and was here before the points system was enacted, and would certainly still be here if it were gone tomorrow, but what's the point of having them if they're hardly used?
It is very difficult to achieve even 10 points a day in my opinion, (which is reasonable for forum members to level up in a fair amount of time). I usually come to these forums every day, mostly to post, sometimes merely to read. However, on average days when I completely answer or help users with problems, there will be no response from such users, and especially not a thread marked as "solved" or a post marked as "helpful". This is typical from the majority of those helped here, which are one time forum users. It's pretty difficult to fix this problem, but there are other things that could be done to aid this.
Since the new system has been started, I can count the number of green stars next to one of my posts on one hand, literally. I usually make more than just a few posts a day as well. Look, I'm not trying to be stingy or greedy about points, but there's obviously a flaw regarding user interaction with the point system.
This could simply be solved by simple logic. An OP who asks a question should HAVE to answer the following each time in order to post a reply: "Has this been solved?" and furthermore specifically "By Who?", while giving the user a choice of those in the thread only.
I can't tell you the amount of "solved" threads I've seen where the person who should receive credit for solving the problem is never given points simply because the user isn't using the specific buttons on the post to specify that their question was answered, but on the reply form, which won't allow the user to choose a post from. The result, it's solved, but supposedly by no one.
Again, I'm not all about the points, but It's illogical to have a system that is so seldom used, and at times when it is, usually not accurately.
The key points here are that most people asking questions don't understand the idea of the point system. They needn't understand the idea of a point system as long as interface design is exercised properly.

    Hello Brian,
You're right, and this question has been thoroughly raised in every aspect, from the beginning in November 2005, and then some other times once in a while.
Although a nice and fun way to support the general wonderful sense of community, and a nice way to "feel thankful" together too, we all know that gaining points is not our main concern, and that there would be as much participation without, but
you're right again, if we are to use them, then they need to work as intended.
Now where I disagree with you:
"An OP [...] should HAVE to..."
In my opinion an OP should feel at ease, as much as possible, and not, like many constantly advise,
feel yet again the same kind of complication/clumsiness/heaviness feeling (s)he experiences in filling administrative or boring banking forms...
As you rightly said, OPs do not (and should not) know/learn everything about some complicated steps, just when entering a technical forum for the first(s) time(s),
especially as they are at the moment in the state of mind of a newbie who additionally is in a troubleshooting panic...
    In my opinion,
the solution should come from us, and the mods, not from the OPs.
    And the solution is simple:
    - a reintroduction of a level of awarding by peers.
Since we already know how perverted the voting system had become, I'd suggest a very limited possibility of awarding posts when not an OP: like for example only three or five "Helpful" per day.
    Software fixes priorities:
    - Now that it works better, the Points system is more easily criticizable, but the fix is not anymore so urgent in the list of fixes.
I'm sure it is still there though.
Be patient and enjoy your participation!
    Regards,
    Axl

  • How does point system works?

    Dear all,
I am wondering how this point system works? I had 915 points this morning and now end up with 905. Instead of going up, it fluctuates from time to time. Initially, it use to show up next to my name with 915 but then that went down to 514???
Is it only me or someone else has seen this behaviour?
I am not points buff but it seems pretty strange that one day infact in the same day the numbers fluctuates like they do in stock exchange.

Nope, in this case, Kartik already has "the hard way" behind him.
During an investigation into a nest of points gamers in October last year, Kartik was investigated as well for having for having participated in one of the threads. There were many being investigated. Other symptoms matched (we have some strict rules for this) - so the mistake was perhaps understandable - but on the other hand I should perhaps have looked a bit further to see that Kartik's post patterns were different to those of the others (who were not located very far away from Kartik..).
Anyway... as they faded away into the annual ponits total of those who are being transported into the world where the A.G. calendar is used ( Anno Guestus ) ... Kartik's ID faded away with them.
Kartik contacted me about it and I took his word for the expanation that he was not involved. I am very glad that I did that, as he has been a big help in the ABAP forums.
I don't have the exact figures, but last I heard we have deleted more than 50 thousand user ID's for ponits gaming. I am always very carefull when investigating this and there are other people who check it as well before any action is taken.
To date, to my knowledge, Kartik has been the only mistake we have made. Others have begged for mercy, but that is different. Hence my comment that he should wear the difference like a "battle scar" caused by the "journal entry", until Micheal can possibly fix it.

  • SCN point system hacked !

Something is going wrong with SCN in point system. First.. its show "loading points" only If by chance it shows the points, I checked that total is wrong. Someone hacked or SCN playing any QUIZ with users ? ..Whatever but totaly disappointed.

    Deepak Tyagi,
Are you access the internet through a corporate/company network? That network might be blocking the gamification platform backend.  What do you see when you go to http://scn.sap.com/reputation.jspa?username=deepak.tyagi&viewID=history?
Does the issue persists when opening SCN from a public internet connection?

  • [locked] A Different Perspective On The Point System

    I was reading Joel on Software today and he was talking about "Stack Overflow" which is a very successful Q&A forum for programmers by programmers.  Joel makes the point that the Stack Overflow board (which is similar to these forums in that it's a technical support forum) uses a point system. Joel goes on to write;
"It’s not much of a secret, but Stack Overflow is already a great place to find good programmers, because you can see how good people really are by reading the answers that they post. I’ve noticed a lot of people putting their Stack Overflow reputations on their resumes, and we’re starting to hear stories of people who got jobs through the site. Jeff and I are committed to building features to make this easier in the next “six to eight” weeks. For example, I’ve always hated traditional resumes, which just don’t give the right kind of information about a candidate. If you wanted to hire an iPhone developer, would you rather know that person’s Stack Overflow stats in the iPhone tag and read their answers to technical questions? Or would you rather know where they went to college?
If we pull this off, getting jobs in the tech industry will be a lot saner."
I'm not sure at this point where I sit in this debate; but I thought you all might be interested in a reasoned opinion on the pro side.

If those pros that you're referring to don't care about the points then how exactly are they destroying the forum?
many of them are insulted by them and have left. the format of the forums have changed becasue the new system discourages long teaching discourses with lots of back and forth an examples coming from the teachers and the students. this format encourages quick, dirty answers (as pj says, paraphrasing: who needs a discourse when ESC ESC UP UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT START works, and others add: even if that trashes your image!).
and on the other hand there are those in charge of the Community Help
who say that they have solid data indicating that points have helped
increase the overall value of the comments posted there
no offense to any but i don't believe that for a second. change that to maybe those who have some vested interest in the new forums or are in some way beholden to adobve mgmt are pushing the corporate line, then yes, you've got a point.
and who the $@** are "community help"? i haven't seen ANY "community help" in the last 7ish years except that provided by myself and other dedicated users to the adobe user "community".
Gee, i wonder who i'll believe....
hmm, maybe the guy who cares enough about adobe and it's products to spend the last 7 years donating his time helping people use adobe's programs? Gee, f*&k off with your snide "Gees" bish. thanks.
    You're freaking incredible Dave.
um, sorry steve, you did notice that i was responding to pj who said he doesn't care, right?
    If
the intent was to change the flavor of the forums, they are being very
successful! A lot of the old friendly banter is gone, and answers are
given to try to satisfy the OPs question and no more. I feel it's a big
    shame.
exactly... that's all i was saying.and i feel that if that's the intent, adobe should come out and SAY so. then those of us who care about the programs and helping people make best use of them can move on and those who care about racking up meatballs can provide the free tech support for a change.
I am personally not against a point system per se, but I am opposed to the way it is implemented. If ALL
users could give points (or kudos, or what-have-you) for a useful
answer (and not just the OP), with no limit to just three per thread,
people would be encouraged to give more complete and universally useful
answers. I believe that such an implementation would promote the joint
learning atmosphere instead of stunting it...
again, yes. and this was brought up in this specific forum when we were asked for feedback.
the focus of the forums hasn't shifted, all that happened was that they added points, don't blow this out of proportion.
you're wrong zeno! not only are you wrong, but you're speaking as if you're some sort of authority on it and if you have any pull with adobe (and it seems you do) then you're providing them with your wrong, skewed view of how things were vs. how they are.
how the heck would you know? where did you come from? how did you get authority? WHERE THE H&LL WERE YOU FOR THE LAST DECADE that you can compare the way the old forum works with the vapid eye candy we're being forced to use now? you sure as heck weren't providing adobe photoshop windows support...

  • Gripe about the points system...

    To whom it may concern,
I have a gripe about the points system used on the forums.Let me start by saying I like the general premise the points system offers but... I have noticed that I certain cases I will receive SEVERAL equally good, helpful, and valid replies to a post. My gripe is that when it comes time to award points I see a problem. In the above scenario AT LEAST one posts MUST get solved points while the others only get helpful points. I don't like this as oft times I believe EVERY answer deserves equal points. I would like to see the system at least allow for all posters to receive helpful points. I feel that in some cases this would keep things fair. Thank you.

  • Is the points system too restrictive?

When I first joined these forums, the points system was quite different, so that the transition from level three to four took a long time, but was possible. Since then giving and receiving points has tightened up so much that I now think that it is all but impossible to get from level two to level three in a reasonable time.
I would like to know how many people have made the level three to four transition since the current point regime started? and of those, how many were already close to the transition at the changeover?
Is the current scheme too restrictive? Was it cynically designed to be restrictive to reduce the number of people getting to level four?

  • This point system is so stupid when is it going to go?

    posted in the InDesign forum.
Sorry folks, but word has come down from above that abuse of the point system is counter-productive. There are management types that actually believe some users see points as an incentive to provide a quality answer, and that they wouldn't do so without the points, but that's not a widely held opinion among hosts. Nevertheless, I have to lock the thread, and warn you that at some point there will be official sanctions for those who post threads with the sole purpose of gaming the point system.
If they don't want the point system abused then we need to do away with it. This forum is becoming less and less a place I want to help at. I think I will start looking for another Photoshop forum.

They've never read the Gandhi quote:
This is a genuine, well-known quote by Mahatma Gandhi, the Indian spiritual leader and activist:
    • A customer is the most important visitor on our premises, he is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him.
    • He is not an interruption in our work. He is the purpose of it.
    • He is not an outsider in our business. He is part of it.
    • We are not doing him a favor by serving him.     He is doing us a favor by giving us an opportunity to do so.
Employees of any entity, whether in government or in private business, will do well to keep it in mind and at heart.
The recent post by Kathy Nguyen, universally well received here, shows that she knows this principle and puts it into practice.
However, a few Adobe staff and associates seem somehow to think that Adobe's customers are lowly adversaries in some sort of Internet game or in a newsgroup.  Those who manifest that misguided and poisonous attitude in this forum and in their blogs are showing their incompetence and their ignorance of basic business principles.  To them I say:  you're dead wrong!  You are far from being our superiors, you are our servants.
They should know well who they are—and we certainly do.

  • How seriously do we take this point system?

Seriously, do points matter? Do you want them? Why if so, why, if not? Are points any good? Do points make you feel more secure? Are points pointed and sharp or are they blunt and blunted? Do points encourage you to answer questions or do they discourage you?
Points are not a line... but connecting two pints makes a line... So do points awarded in an answer draw aline and stop all further discussion?
I've been following threads in DW General and AI General. I notice that threads, by and large, stop far sooner than they would have. I put that down to the lack of participants for various reasons and the 'Correct' answer flag. So much knowledge and information is not being shared.
True, a lot of the posts came from the NNTP side... but a lot also came from the web side... these forums are killing all spontaniety.
    However, the killers are:
    1/ Lack of NNTP
    2/ Points
    3/ Correct answers

Thanks Jacob - that's my friend Patty - how odd that she was able to give 3 lots of 'helpful answer' stars instead of two. I don't see the 'punishment' angle though.
Hi I'm Kath's friend Patty and now I'm feeling bad. I came to the forums to ask questions of the experienced people and I received incredible help that I was so grateful for. Now I see my thread referenced from Jacob like I did something wrong. I didn't mark correct answer because Jacob led me to believe that capitalization is an area that is ambiguous so there is more than one correct answer. So obviously I didn't do something right. I marked every response as helpful because it was (except for Ramon's response that wasn't directed at me).
Geeze, if a person asking for help needs to understand the point system, somebody better make it clear to us. I didn't even know I was the one that was supposed to check the helpful or correct answer box until Kath told me that. On another thread when I marked correct, thinking that I could choose helpful or correct as many times as it was responded to, the thread showed as "Answered" and I didn't think that was good. Because if my question shows "Answered" why would anyone waste their time giving their input.
Jacob you helped me tremendously and I feel bad that I don't understand the point system enough to give you the proper praise and gratitude that I feel. And I learned early on back in the "good old days" of the Adobe forums that there isn't really one "correct answer" there are many ways to accomplish a task.

  • Is the "point system" here helpful at all?

Could this dumb Jive point system possibly be responsible for being asked to create a new thread (before you're actually assisted), or are points just post-based? (instead of continuing an older, perfectly relevant thread that was "answered"--the solution offered in the answer didn't work for the same problem presented)
Why does "marking a thread as a question encourage people to answer"....oh....it says for points right above..... Yeah is that helpful?  Do we really want to get people into this "point competition" mindset?  Bring back WebX!  Jive Clearspace sucks!
The whole point system is a little pointless, can't it be disabled? It doesn't really belong on a professional company's tech forum.
(I marked this post as as a question! Who wants free points?! haha)

Although there may be a 10 page, book correct, proper answer. The one most helpful is the one that corrects the problem for the user asking the question.
Some times an answer doesn't have to be 20 pages long and require 100 step
"Hold the Shift, Ctrl and Alt keys pressed for exactly seven seconds, then repeat 'Amen' for three times, then press the same keys, but this time for only five seconds. This has worked for me". Here is a much less than 20 pages long answer that doesn't require 100 steps, and that may happen to work for whatever reason for the person asking a question. Does this make it a correct answer to the question? What if, after the question is marked as "correctly answered" by the OP, no knowleadgeable  person visits the thread, but many others with the same problem do and find the "solution" doesn't work for them? Would this be helpful/useful/satisfying for them?
