Conditional LookupSet in SSRS

Hi Friends,
I have one requirement where i have to combine all the classcodes for a day , staff , Period & time table conditions
Please find the sample data as follows :
Report Groupings are :
StaffSurname
DefinitionTimeFrom
PeriodNumber
PeriodNUmberseq
TimetableGroup
FileType
Requirement : Crystal logic need to be converted into ssrs. Please find the crystal logic below
Shared StringVar ClassD1;
If {vStaffTimetableFull.TimetableGroup} <> {vStaffTimetableFull.StaffDefaultTimetableGroup}  then
  Class := {vStaffTimetableFull.DefinitionTimeFrom} + ' ' + {vStaffTimetableFull.ClassCode}
else
  Class := {vStaffTimetableFull.ClassCode};
if ({vStaffTimetableFull.DayNumber} = 1) then (
    if (ClassD1 = '') then
      ClassD1 := Class
    else
      ClassD1 := ClassD1 + CHR(13) + Class)
I have tried to use lookupset & join to combine the values in ssrs but it is combining all the values from the dataset and failing to check the condition {vStaffTimetableFull.TimetableGroup} <> {vStaffTimetableFull.StaffDefaultTimetableGroup}
Required output :
Please let me know if u need any other details.
Thanks,
Sam

Hi Sam,
According to your description, you want to display corresponding values based on the condition that when the [Timetablegroup] value is equal to the [StaffDefaultTimetableGroup] value.
In Reporting Services, we can use IIF() function to return corresponding values depending on whether the expression is true or not. In your scenario, you can refer to steps below to achieve your requirement:
1. Design the report like below:
Expression: =IIF(Fields!Timetablegroup.Value <> Fields!StaffDefaultTimetableGroup.Value,Fields!DefinitionTimeFrom.Value & " " & Fields!Classcode.Value & chr(10) & Fields!DefinitionTimeFrom.Value & " " &
Fields!Classcode.Value & chr(10) & chr(10) & Int(Left(Fields!Classcode.Value,2)) & "   " & right(Fields!Classcode.Value,4),Fields!Classcode.Value & chr(10) & Fields!Classcode.Value & chr(10) & chr(10)
& Int(Left(Fields!Classcode.Value,2)) & "    " & right(Fields!Classcode.Value,4))
2. Preview the report:

  • Lookupset in ssrs

    H i All;
    I have a Table in SSRS which uses the dataset ProgrammeProfile where I have Statrt date and End date parameter
    and dataset called ProgrammeProfile1 exactly same as dataset Programme Profile but dont have Start Date and End date parameter
    Using Dataset ProgrammeProfile I can calculate totals say =Sum(Fields!new_profilenumberValue.Value)
    But using dataset ProgrammeProfile1 i need to calculate total between the dates in the report parameter
    i am trying to it but didnt succeed
    I used the following expression
    =Sum(LookupSet( Fields!new_mainprogrammeid.Value & "," & Fields!new_subprogrammeid.Value & "," &
    Fields!new_outputs.Value & "," &
    Fields!new_claimmonthid.Value,
    Fields!new_mainprogrammeid.Value & "," & Fields!new_subprogrammeid.Value & "," &
     Fields!new_outputs.Value & "," &
     Fields!new_claimmonthid.Value, Fields!new_profilenumberValue.Value, "ProgrammeProfile").length())
    but gives the value as 16 which is the count of dates between the report parameter
    for e.g
    01/02/2014
    01/03/2014
    01/04/2014
    01/05/2014

    01/03/2014
    01/04/2014
    01/05/2014
    01/06/2014
    01/07/2014
    01/08/2014
    01/09/2014
    but i need the sum of the values of these dates
    Any help on this much appreciated
    Thanks

    Hi Wendy Fu
    Thanks for your reply
    I have two dataset which are exactly the same ProgrammeProfile and PogrammeProfile1
    except for Date filters
    In Dataset ProgrammeProfile I am using the filter for Start Date(Search) and End Date(Search1)
    <condition attribute="new_claimstartdate" operator="ge"  value="@Search"  />
    <condition attribute="new_claimstartdate" operator="lt"  value="@Search1"  />
    In Dataset ProgrammeProfile1 I am not using the above Date filters
    as i need the total of all the vales which i do get it from ProgrammeProfile Dataset
    But need the total of the selected date parameter as  well
    so was trying to use lookupSet
    Any help much appreciated

  • LookUpSet is Not working for multiple columns in SSRS 2008 R2

    Hi Friends,
    I have a problem when i use more than one LookUpSet in SSRS to display more than one value based on Day Number & other fields..Please find the below details and please suggest me a solution for this.
    Crystal :
                    Day1                              Day2
    Period 4     Arts,Maths               Arts,Maths
    For this in SSRS i am using LookUpSet as below based on StaffID,PeriodNumber & DayNumber like  this:
    = (IIF(Fields!DayNumber.Value=1,Join(LookupSet(Fields!StaffID.Value & Fields!PeriodNumber.Value &  Fields!DayNumber.Value
        , Fields!StaffID.Value & Fields!PeriodNumber.Value & Fields!DayNumber.Value
        , Fields!ClassCode.Value
        , "TIMSTF5"), "," ),""))
    which is displaying correct in SSRS,But when i use the same expression to display Day 2 classes it is returning empty even though i have values on Day 2.Please have a look at the SSRS output below:
                    Day1                              Day2
    Period 4     Arts,Maths
    Day 2 Expression is :
    = (IIF(Fields!DayNumber.Value=2,Join(LookupSet(Fields!StaffID.Value & Fields!PeriodNumber.Value &  Fields!DayNumber.Value
        , Fields!StaffID.Value & Fields!PeriodNumber.Value & Fields!DayNumber.Value
        , Fields!ClassCode.Value
        , "TIMSTF5"), "," ),""))
    I am not sure why it is not liking to use more than LookUpSet in the same report,Please suggest me with a work around for this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sam.

    Hi Guys,
    I have sorted out the problem.Solution for the above problem is use Max before the expression like below, since it has multiple days and periods in the Dataset.
    = Max((IIF(Fields!DayNumber.Value=2,Join(LookupSet(Fields!StaffID.Value & Fields!PeriodNumber.Value &  ields!DayNumber.Value
        , Fields!StaffID.Value & Fields!PeriodNumber.Value & Fields!DayNumber.Value
        , Fields!ClassCode.Value
        , "TIMSTF5"), ","  + vbcrlf),"")))
    Thanks,

  • Issues after sharepoint 2010 sp2 upgrade

    Hi,
    I am using Lookupset in SSRS report to connect multiple datasets.
    =Join(Lookupset(Fields!ows_SNO.Value,Fields!Serial_No.Value,Fields!Name.Value, "Dateset1"))
    I have renamed the Title column as serial_No.
    When i am opening the report, "Name" is not populated in the report.
    Dataset Query:
    <ViewFields>
        <FieldRef Name="Title" />
        <FieldRef Name="Name" />
    </ViewFields>
    Thank you.

    Hi Selvarasu,
    Is the Serial_No field is included in the DataSet1?
    If not, then you need to change DataSet1 to the dataset where the Serial_No exists.
    And for the DataSet query, it is like the format below:
    <RSSharePointList xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
      <ListName>Test2</ListName>
      <ViewFields>
        <FieldRef Name="Title" />
        <FieldRef Name="code" />
        <FieldRef Name="ID" />
      </ViewFields>
    </RSSharePointList>
    If above cannot work, could you please provide more details and screenshots about the datasets?
    Best regards.

  • SSRS Using Sum and = in a conditional operator

    Hi,
    Still getting to grips with SSRS so any help would be appreciated.
    My aim is to calculate a conditional field using the SSRS expression feature, the datasource is a shared dataset which i can't alter so i can't just go an alter the SQL query or anything.
    In SQL my query would be like this: SELECT COUNT(TotalHours) FROM TableName WHERE TotalHours <= 24
    Is there anyway to combined the Iff and Sum operator's to get a result like the above?
    At present all i managed to come up with is the below but obviously it's not returning the correct amount.
    =IIf(Fields!TotalHours.Value <= "24", Sum(Fields!TotalHours.Value), 0 )
    Please help!
    Edit: Please note that i'm not trying to sum a field based on a condition that relates to another column, i just need a sum of 'TotalHours' that are less than or equal to 24, please also note there is another field called category, each category needs a
    sum of the above.
    Regards,
    Marcus
    Plain_Clueless

    Hi Marcus,
    According to your description, you want to count [TotalHours] when the value of this field is less than 24, right?
    In your scenario, you could use the expression like below:
    =Sum(IIF(Fields!TotalHours.Value<=24,1,0))
    Please note don’t put this expression in the detail rows, you could refer to our test results:

  • CASE Statement in Where Condition with Multi Valued parameter in SSRS

    Hi All,
    I am little confused while using CASE statement in Where condition in SSRS. Below is my scenario:
    SELECT
    Logic here
    WHERE
    Date IN (@Date)AND
    (CASE
    WHEN NAME LIKE 'ABC%' THEN 'GROUP1'
    WHEN ID IN ('123456', '823423','74233784') THEN 'GROUP2'
    WHEN ABC_ID IS NULL THEN 'GROUP3'
    ELSE 'GROUP4'
    END ) IN (@GROUP)
    So above query uses WHERE condition with CASE statement from @GROUP parameter. I want to pass this parameter as multi- valued parameter and hence I have used CASE statement IN (@GROUP).
    For @Date one dataset will pass the available and default values and
    for @GROUP parameters, another dataset will pass the available and default values.
    But this is not working as expected. Please suggest me where I am making mistake in the query.
    Maruthu | http://sharepoint-works.blogspot.com

    Hi Maruthu,
    According to your description, I create a sample report in my local environment. It works as I expected. In your scenario, if the selected values from the Date parameter contains some of the Date field values, the selected values from the GROUP parameter
    contains some of GROUPS (‘GROUP1’,’GROUP2’,’GROUP3’,’GROUP4’) and the corresponding when statement is executed , then the dataset returns the corresponding values.
    In order to trouble shoot this issue, could you tell us what results are you get and what’s your desired results? If possible, you can post the sample data with sample dataset, then we can make further analysis and help you out.

  • Ssrs sum based upon a conditional statement

    In an ssrs 2008 r2 report, I have the following code that totals a transaction amount:
    =sum(cdec(Fields!TransactionAmount.Value))
    Now I need to have different total amounts based upon 'payment type'. The payment_types are either 'check', or 'credit' for credit card. Thus can you show me how to change the code I just listed to sum the amount depending upon the payment type?

    You may wish to follow this thread that is exploring a similar question.
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/12e2cdf4-1fd7-4f2a-ba12-ff5c4ec01eeb/sum-values-based-on-condition-in-ssrs?forum=sqlreportingservices
    To do this in an SSRS expression just insert an IIf:
    =Sum(IIf(Fields!payment_type.Value = "check",cdec(Fields!TransactionAmount.Value),0))
    =Sum(IIf(Fields!payment_type.Value = "credit",cdec(Fields!TransactionAmount.Value),0))
    In the other thread you will see that sometimes it makes sense to do this kind of work in the dataset since dataset queries run on the datasource and often those systems are robust servers that can crunch and return data very quickly.

  • SSRS 2008: connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database. (rsReportServerDatabaseError)

    Hi,
    I have started getting this error since a week now when I try to schedule a report or change a schedule of a report.
    An error occurred within the report server database. This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database. (rsReportServerDatabaseError) Get Online Help For more information about this error navigate to the report
    server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
    We have SQL Server 2008 installed along with SSRS running on the server. I have never seen this happening before for almost a year now but suddenly it appeared.  Along with this, report subscription is also messed up and some report are not been
    emailed as they have a error like:
    Failure sending mail: An error occurred within the report server database. This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database.Mail will not be resent.
    I am not sure what caused this but if anyone has any idea of what is going on it will be great.
    Thanks you for your help.
    Please reply soooon !!!

    Rich, hi, sorry for my english but I speak spanish...
    Well, I was tried to recreate this issue and is really hard to recreate, however and as a rain from the sky, one of my customers receive the same error that you have, reviewing Windows Logs and SQL Traces there is nothing.
    Just for discard security issues I decide to change permissions in my server.
    1. Go to SQL Server Reporting Services Configuration Manager
    2. Go to Databases
    3. Verify the credentials used to connect to the database server
    4. Go to your database server
    5. Look for the login or user that is being used to connect to the database server from SSRS
    6. Change the role of that user and convert it to Sysadmin (Relax, this is not the final solution)
    7. Try again (Is not necesary to restart ANYTHING)
    8. Now, your SSRS and Subscriptions must work fine
    9. If your SSRS and subscriptions are working ok, you have to give some permissions to the user
    10. Grant execute permissions on
    master.dbo.xp_sqlagent_notify
    master.dbo.xp_sqlagent_enum_jobs
    master.dbo.xp_sqlagent_is_starting
    msdb.dbo.sp_help_category
    msdb.dbo.sp_add_category
    msdb.dbo.sp_add_job
    msdb.dbo.sp_add_jobserver
    msdb.dbo.sp_add_jobstep
    msdb.dbo.sp_add_jobschedule
    msdb.dbo.sp_help_job
    msdb.dbo.sp_delete_job
    msdb.dbo.sp_help_jobschedule
    msdb.dbo.sp_verify_job_identifiers
    11. Grant select permissions on
    msdb.dbo.sysjobs
    msdb.dbo.syscategories
    12. Grant public role to the user in the MSDB and Master DB
    13. Remove the Sysadmin role to the user
    14. Try again, now, your SSRS is ready to work

  • How to create 2 conditions from 2 datasets in row visibility SSRS

    Hi Experts,
     In ssrs, I want to create an expression for the row visibility. But, the expression will contain 2 conditions from different 2 datasets (DealStarts & RowofTrendingVisibility). I have applied a solution from online, but got an error message is
    "The Visibility.Hidden expression for the tablix ‘Tablix9’ contains an error: [BC30451] Name 'launchdate' is not declared. "
    I think that there is a minor issue in my syntax. Can some one help me to correct it?  Thank you.
    =iif ((Last(MonthName("DealStarts"))=monthname(month(today())) or launchdate ("RowofTrendingVisibility")<Parameters!StartDate.Value),true, false)

    Hi JTan414,
    I have check the expression you have provided and there are many incorrect using of this expression, please check and do some modification as below:
    For the MonthName function you should follow the grammar like:
    =MonthName(10,True)
    =MonthName(Month(Fields!BirthDate.Value),False)
    ="The month of your birthday is " & MonthName(Month(Fields!BirthDate.Value))
    You have add the dataset name "DealStarts" at the wrong place, it should like below:
    =Last(MonthName(Month(Fields!BirthDate.Value)),"DealStarts")
    or
    =Last(MonthName(Fields!IntegerValueField.Value),"DealStarts")
    This will return the last value from the dataset
    There is no function named launchdate, expression "launchdate ("RowofTrendingVisibility")" is incorrect and you shouldn't add the datasetname in this way.
    If the expression involved of conditions from two different datasets, limit kinds of functions will support to use:
     =Last(Fields!BirthDate.Value,"DataSetName")
    =First(Fields!BirthDate.Value,"DataSetName")
    More details information about how to use expression in SSRS:

  • Conditional formatting a graph vertical axis in SSRS 2012 charts

    Hi,
    I have a situation where i want to color the label on vertical axis of graph depending on certain condition. Say when values are positive the color would be Black and when negative color would be Red.
    I tried following condition but its not working.
    =iif(Fields!MyField.Value < 0 , "Red", "Black")
    I know there are few threads already mentioning that this feature is not supported in SSRS 2008 but just wanted to know if its adddressed in SSRS 2012 or later?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Oliver D'mello

    Hi Oliver,
    According to your description, you want to use an expression to specify different color for Axis Labels based on values in a chart.
    As we tested in our environment, when we apply condition in expression to give dynamic color for Axis Labels, the color setting applies to all labels based on the condition. This issue happens in both SQL Server 2012 and 2014. Please refer to the screenshots
    below:
    In this scenario, I would recommend you submit this issue to the Microsoft Connect at this link
    https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/Feedback. This connect site will serve as a connecting point between you and Microsoft, and ultimately the large community for you and Microsoft
    to interact with. Your feedback enables Microsoft to offer the best software and deliver superior services, meanwhile you can learn more about and contribute to the exciting projects on Microsoft Connect.

  • Conditional image and image source in SSRS

    I have images stored in database for some of the items but not for the others. If there is no image in the database I would like to display static placeholder image embedded in the report.
    Is there a way to achieve that? The problem I experience is that there is no way to specify expression for Image Source. I tried to use expressions for Value field (when Image Source is set to Database) to specify the name for embedded image depending on
    condition but nothing I tried worked.

    If your image is embedded in a tablix then, yes, you are sourced to a single dataset. However the Lookup function pulls in "related" data from another dataset. Related is in quotes because there are ways to fool it. The syntax is:
    =Lookup(index_current_dataset, index_other_dataset,field_to_get_from_other_dataset, other_dataset_name)
    If you have a second dataset, "Second", that returns a single column, "Picture", that is your default image, you can retrieve that image using lookupset as follows:
    =Lookup(1,1,Fields!Picture.Value,"Second")
    the 1,1 is used to fool the lookup expression. Since 1 will always match 1, it will return everything in the dataset, which is the single image. Throw that into a logical check (IIf) and you get:
    =IIf(IsNothing(Fields!RelatedImage.Value), Lookup(1,1,Fields!Picture.Value,"Second"), Fields!RelatedImage.Value)
    That said Andre's approach should work also. the example may be for embedded but the principle should work for db as well since you can set a formula for visibility. Yours is in a tablix so it will require some tweaks.
    In the cell where the image will be embedded, first add a rectangle. The rectangle will allow you to add 2 images to the cell. Add your default image and set its source to whatever you like. It can even be an embedded image. Now add a second image and set
    it to your database image field. In the visibility property of each image set it show or hide based on an expression:
    default image expression: =IIf(IsNothing(Fields!Image.Value),false,true)
    db image expression: =IIf(IsNothing(Fields!Image.Value),true,false)
    You will want to set the cell width/height so it is equal or smaller than 1 image in design view. A table cell can grow bigger at runtime to accommodate more content but not smaller. Because of this, you need to set the design-time cell height and width
    equal or smaller than a single image.
    The advantage of this approach is that the default image does not need to come from a dataset like with my suggestion.

  • SSRS 2012 Conditional Formatting Color Issues When Exporting to Excel

    Hi all,
    We recently upgraded to SQL 2012 from SQL2008 R2. I'm having a strange issue with SSRS2012.
    One of the report has conditional formattings on cell background colors. Everything works fine when render the report in browser or preview mode. However, the conditional formatting stop working when export the report to Excel (no issues if
    export to pdf). All cells are high-lightened with pre-defined color although it should only high-lighten those cells that fulfil the condition.
    Has someone encountered this issue before ? Thanks for any help.

    Hi ZZ02,
    I have test the scenario in my testing environment, however, everything goes well when exporting to Excel format. The issue might be related to the expression for the conditional background color. To make further analysis, please post the expression as well
    as the report design structure.
    Additionally, in SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services, the Excel rendering extension renders a report to the native format of Microsoft Excel 2007-2010, the format of which is ExcelOpenXML. By default, the previous version of the Excel rendering extension,
    compatible with Microsoft Excel 2003, is disabled. At this time, I suggest that you enable the Excel 2003 rendering extension by modifying the RSReportServer.config file. After that, the Excel 2003 rendering format will be available on report manager (not
    available in Report Designer). So, please export the report from report manager and check the result again.
    For more information about enable the Excel 2003 rendering extension, please see:

  • SSRS Expression for Conditional Filtering using the "IN" operator

    Hello,
    I need to filter my dataset based on a parameter:
    If Period= 1 then Week must be in (W1, W2, W3),  Else Week must be in (W10, W20, W30)
    I tried using the "IN" operator but don't know how to create the expression for the "Value" field. I tried the following:
    iif(Parameters!Period.Value = 1,
    "W1, W2, W3",
    "W10, W20, W30")
    But it doesn't work.

  • SSRS 2008R2 Error: An error occurred within the report server database. This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database

    Hi,
    a big problem with our report server has appeared suddenly.
    We are running the SQL Server 2008 R2 with a Report Server. But a .
    I can connect to the Report Server Website and I can choose a report. But if I run the report, it will load endless without timeout message or other error messages.
    I looked in the Report Server Log and find out this confusing error messages:

    The last think I have done, is to grant a new user access to the report server website (by using the site options) and to the root folder (by using the folder options on ws).
    But the error must not relate to the new user. The server was not touched for several days before.
    Could you plz help me? I have no idea what to do.
    Googling the whole day to find a solution without success

    We are having the same issue with our production reporting server and it doesn't look like a permission issue. We are running the SSRS service as a domain account with administrative privileges on the server. We are seeing the following entry in the log
