Configuration restoration Question

Hello. I have some routers installed on some branch offices. I have access to them through ssh. I have created a new configuration that i want to install on all of them. The old configuration has to be erased. How can i do that without using erase start and rebooting because that will leave me without ssh access? I want the new config to replace the old one keeping none of the old stuff. Is restoring through ftp going to do what i want? Thanks a lot in advance.

To me knowledge, it can't be done as you request. On the ASA you have the option to "clear configure" but this would remove all configuration (including SSH access).
The best be that I can see would be to copy a new config into the running config that overwrites the old config. You will need to be sure to not delete the parts required for SSH. For instance if the old config is:
ntp server 10.0.0.1
interface fa0/0
description Address required for SSH
ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0
interface fa0/1
description another interface
ip address 192.168.2.1 255.255.255.0
it could be fixed by creating the config:
no ntp server 10.0.0.1
interface fa0/1
ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0
no shut
and copying it to running config (or just writing it as you go.
The other option would be to copy the full new config to startup-config and rebooting although you would need to make sure that you have it right (make sure that you have no shut on the interfaces).
If you decide to modify the running config instead of the startup, you can use the command "reload in x" to automatically reload the router in x miniutes in case you mess up. "reload cancel" will stop the reload when you are sure that it works.

  • ISE 1.2 backup restore questions

    Hi all,
I have been looking at the backup and restore procedure for ISE deployments and have to say I have found the documentation to be somewhat confusing in general. Whilst I get the gist of it I have found numerous areas that are grey. This question is the first of many but here we go.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/ise/1-2/user_guide/ise_user_guide/ise_backup.html#pgfId-1073378
Based on that link to restore a failed primary admin node I am left wondering about the state of the licensing. In a deployment that has the licensing configured to utilise the UDIs of the primary and secondary node what happens after you have rebuilt the primary from the ground up?
As far as I am aware when you run up a new node the UDI changes meaning that the license detail is no longer correct - how does this affect the rebuilt node becoming primary again and do you have to rehost the license to reflect the new UDI?

Another question I have is about the restoration of monitoring data to a primary monitoring node that has temporarily failed. As per documentation it states that a manual backup should be taken from the secondary node and restored to the primary to essentially provide the missing events during the outage. I have a couple of questions about this process:
    1. What happens when the primary monitoring comes back online - does it sync up with the secondary monitoring node effectively overwriting the events the secondary has or does it just continue on its merry way?
    2. To restore data to the primary monitoring node do you need to de-register the primary before restoring the backup taken from the secondary and re-join it to the deployment or do you just restore from the primary admin GUI? As far as I can see this still means that there will be a hole in the data for the period of time it takes to restore from backup.

  • Exchange Server 2013 backup and restoration question

    Good afternoon
I am wondering if I can pick people's brains here if that's not too much trouble.
I have recently implemented an Exchange 2013 environment with 3 servers (two multi-role CAS & MBX physical machines, and one further virtual CAS server). Everything is working correctly and mail-flow is fine. My question relates to backup and restoration
procedures. I am running a single Database Availability group with the two multi-role servers members of the this group and I have one Mailbox Database on the DAG, passive on one member and active on the other. Failover has been tested and this is functioning
    as expected.
The backup environment I have implemented is as follows. I have utilized a separate Microsoft DPM 2012 server that runs a nightly Bare Metal backup on both multi-role servers with a retention range of 14 days and I have protected the DAG using DPM with a
nightly full-express backup and 4 hourly syncs on one of the multi-role servers. Furthermore the Mailbox Database is protected, again nightly with a copy-backup.
I am confident I know what to do should the mailbox database become corrupted or lost or need to be restored for one reason or another (it would just be a case of restoring the backed up mailbox database using DPM to a pre-created recovery database), what
I am not quite so sure on is what I would do should I lose one or both of the multi-role CAS and MBX servers (the third CAS I am not so worried about as it is not used for incoming mail flow from the internet and we really only use it for ECP as we did not
want to expose this to the internet). I wonder what process should follow to restore my Exchange servers (I know how to perform the Bare Metal recoveries using WSB) and what configuration would be required after restoring the Bare Metal backups.
I know this is a reasonably long question but if anyone has any advice for me I would appreciate it greatly in the unlikely event something goes horribly wrong with my Exchange environment.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Yes, Most of the configuration settings are stored in AD. Mail data and personal related data are store in Mailbox DB. We just need to take consideration of these two points.

  • How to clear Apple Configurator "Restore" items

I would like to clear the old items in the Restore dropdown in Apple Configurator and I can't seem to find a pref file or anything that relates to it.

    Hi ThurstinJ,
If you delete the .iosdevicebackup file on your computer for the backup listed, it'll remove the item the next time you close out of Configurator and relaunch it. Do a Spotlight search on your Mac for the one(s) you want to remove (eg. iPad1.iosdevicebackup ) and Trash it. I've done this in both Apple Configurator v1.2.1 and 1.3.1 and it works.
    Hope this answers your question!

  • Win 7 Backup/Restore Questions

I have questions about Windows 7 Backup & Restore.  From everything I am reading, it would appear that the program performs as advertised, but some of the traits I am witnessing just don't make any sense to me, and when it comes to Backup/Restore
(B/R), things need to make sense.
Q1: I have a machine that is configured with three (3) accounts: one is a privileged account (admin), and the other two are normal non-privileged accounts (acct1 and acct2 for reference purposes).  I perform the backup from the admin account, backing
up the entire machine (all accounts).  The backup completes without error.  If I then Restore Files to view what was saved, I am shown the admin account, and acct1 as available to restore.  Acct2 is not visible!  Why not?  Am I not
allowed to restore this account as admin?  If it is a permissions issue, then why can I see and select acct1?  If I logout of admin and login to acct2, and run B/R from there, the admin and acct2 backups are visible, but not acct1.  So I know
the data got backed up, but why am I not able to see all the backup accounts when running as admin?  If I had a machine with 15 accounts, does this mean I would have to login to each account to restore its files when rebuilding after losing a drive?
Q2: Backups are tagged by date.  If I run B/R daily, it appears that the backup is retagged with a date range.  If I wait a number of days to perform the second backup, I may get a second backup entry with the new date.  What algorithm is
being used to determine when to extend a backup, and when to create a new entry?  Is there a trigger that I can use that will force the creation of new entry, and not extend an existing entry, or vice-versa?
Q3: Everything suggests that with multiple backups, the oldest backup represents a full set of files, and subsequent backups are incremental.  Exactly what is meant by incremental.  I would expect this to mean that any file that has not changed
since the last time it was backed up would not be part of a new backup.  Or stated the other way, any file that has changed since the last time it was backed up would be part of the new incremental backup.  If I have 4 backups, will B/R examine all
4 to determine whether a file needs to be included in the new incremental backup (I assume so)?  If I have 15 backups will B/R examine all 15 to calculate the new incremental (I assume so)?  If I decide to manage space and delete the oldest backup,
will a subsequent backup operation resave all my old files that have not changed since the first backup but are now missing from the backup set (I assume so)?  If so, then any space gained by deleting the original backup will disappear after the new incremental
completes.  Would it be better to delete only the older incremental backups to free up space?
Q4: If I were writing this program, I would expect that contained in each backup is an index to all the saved files along with their dates of existence.  I would have to scan ALL backups to create an index of ALL files with their respective save dates.
I could then compare the current file path and date with the name and date in the archive to determine whether the current file needed to be included in the new incremental.  If this is the case, is there some point where deleting some of the older backups
will improve the overall efficiency of the backup operation by reducing the number of backups that need to be scanned to build the current backup file list?  If so, what is a good rule of thumb for the number of backups to retain to preserve program efficiency?

    Hi,
First question, I'm sorry for never heard this problem, I would made a test in our test enviroment, After that, I would provide the result at here.
For other questions , I would like to suggest you read the link below for some details about system backup.

  • Spfile restore question

    Hi
I recently restored a database on a different server from a tape backup
the first step was restoring the spfile .
So I started the database in nomount, connected to RMAN with nocatalog ,set the DBID and run the following block :
    *RMAN> run {*
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch00 TYPE 'SBT_TAPE';
    send 'NSR_ENV=(NSR_SERVER=bkpnyc02.ibasis.net,NSR_DATA_VOLUME_POOL=DBBACKUP, NSR_CLIENT=dcsdb, NSR_GROUP=RMAN_2_WEEKS)';
    RESTORE SPFILE TO PFILE '/grid/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2/dbs/initdcsdb.ora' from autobackup;
    SHUTDOWN ABORT;
    that worked.
my question is - how did it work ?? how did RMAN, having no control file nor RMAN catalog - knows where is the location of the spfile backup on the tape ?
Again , this is a brand new server I am restoring into. no non-default parameters .
    thanks
    Orna

You have DBID in autobackup name, this is what I'm trying to show you. There is no way to configure autobackup to not contain DBID.
When you set DBID to 111222333 and client name for tape channel to client1 RMAN seeks for backups with 111222333 number in handle name taken from client1.
    Is it clear?

  • Reinstalling Leopard - Restoring questions

I'm planning on giving my MacBook Pro (Early 2008) a fresh start by reinstalling Leopard. I have my computer backed up on Time Machine. I know I can just either "Restore with Time Machine" during the install process, or use Migration Assistant to restore my stuff. But I don't want to restore everything. So my questions are:
    1. Using either of those processes, can I choose which applications to restore and which applications to forget about?
    2. My latest backups are from the latest Leopard update (10.5.6), so I assume I should download all software updates before restoring?
    3. Will this cause issues with the more "heavy" programs like the Adobe CS4 suite, Microsoft Office 2008, or Final Cut Studio 2? I'll reinstall them from the disks if I need to, but if I can just restore them, that'd be so much better.
    4. Is it easy to restore my iWeb data? iPhoto data? What about the wide selection of albums I have in MobileMe through iPhoto? Will those still be listed in iPhoto?
That's all I can think of, thanks in advance!

The biggest potential problem is if they use activation or a limited number of installations. Things like Apple iTunes (to play any iTunes Store purchases) and Adobe CS suite use activation and this is tracked by system configuration. Restoration may cause the application to think it is on a different or new computer, and might trigger a reactivation request or a loss of one of your allocated activations. The best practice here is to make sure you make a list of all apps that require activation and deactivate them before any type of migration or "restoration."

    Hi,
I need to restore my Macbook Pro from my Time Machine backup as I cannot boot (gets stuck on the Apple screen with the wheel spinning and Disk Verify and Repair both fail). your bootcamp partition will not be affected in any way.

  • DB2 restore question

    Hi!
Due to a unwanted batch input job we need to restore a R/3 system from prod to a sandbox system to have a reference system.
I have created a restore script with the brdb6brt tool to  do a redirected restore, and it is currently creating table spaces in the database.
We are running on AIX v5.2 and DB2 v8 FP 11.
We have a full DB backup on disk and incremental backups on a networker managed tape library.
    My question is:
If you restore with the parameter "incremental", is it possible to mark the DB as restored and start the rollforward process without applying the incremental backups on tape?
The documentation for DB2 leaves some space for interpretation, and I don't have the time to do wrong for this 1.4 TB DB.
Here are the examples from the documentation:
    "Notes:
After successful completion of step 1, and before completing step 3, the restore operation can be aborted by issuing:
       db2 restore db mydb abort
After successful completion of step 3, and before issuing all the required commands in step 4, the restore operation can be aborted by issuing:
db2 restore db mydb incremental abort "
Will any of these commands abort the restore so  I need to restart the restore, or just exit the restore procedure so I can continue with rollforward.

    Hi!
I will answer this post myself.
First read contetn in link: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/db2luw/v8/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.db2.udb.doc/admin/t0006070.htm
    In addition:
Here the description of the command parameters for the restore:
    CONTINUE
Specifies that the containers have been redefined, and that the
final step in a redirected restore operation should be performed.
    ABORT
    This parameter:
Stops a redirected restore operation. This is useful when an
error has occurred that requires one or more steps to be
repeated. After RESTORE DATABASE with the ABORT option has
been issued, each step of a redirected restore operation must
be repeated, including RESTORE DATABASE with the REDIRECT
    option.
Terminates an incremental restore operation before completion.
Therefore if you allready have issued the "RETSTORE DATABASE NBP
CONTINUE" without any error, then the restore is finished.
You cannot do a continue manually because you are in another session
then the script (Therefore you get the SQL2008N).

  • Newbie has RMAN restore questions

I am new to Oracle and RMAN. We had a failure on a Windows Server running Oracle 9.2. I copied the backed up datafiles from RMAN to a recovery system. The production system is running again. I need to restore the old data on the recovery system, which is a clean installation of Windows Server and Oracle 9.2.
How do I get RMAN to see the backup set files that I copied over from our production system?
I tried this using the name of one of the backed up files:
CATALOG DATFILECOPY 'C:\BACKUP\ZEUS\DF0_ZEUS-2965_715266526';This returned "ORA-19563: datafile copy header validation failed for file C:\BACKUP\ZEUS\DF0_ZEUS-2965_715266526."
I think the problem is the one described at http://youngcow.net/doc/oracle10g/backup.102/b14192/maint007.htm:
If you try to catalog a datafile copy from a database other than the connected target database,
then RMAN issues an error such as the following:
    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
    RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-03009: failure of catalog command on default channel at 08/29/2001 14:44:34
ORA-19563: datafile copy header validation failed for file /tmp/tools01.dbfI tried SET DBID so that the DBID is the same as the production database, but my results are unchanged.
    Edited by: user12961563 on Apr 15, 2010 10:27 AM

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have tried "RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM AUTOBACKUP;" and the procedure "Performing Disaster Recovery" documented here: http://www.stanford.edu/dept/itss/docs/oracle/10g/server.101/b10734/rcmrecov.htm. I run into these problems:
Not mounted: The RESTORE command fails with ORA-01507: Database not mounted.
Mounted: RMAN-06189: Current DBID does not match target mounted database.
So I run "SET DBID" to make the DBID the same as the source database, just like it says in step 3 of "Performing Disaster Recovery". The RESTORE command then searches some files and gives RMAN-06172: No autobackup found or specified handle is not a valide copy or piece.
The backed up files are in F:\Backup, and I have these settings:
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 'F:\BACKUP\cf_%F';
The only thing I can think of is that RMAN is not looking in F:\BACKUP. Is there something else going on? I've read through scores of pages of docs, but can't find and leads.

  • IOS 7 Configurator Restore

Has anyone else had this issue or something simmilar?
With Configurator 1.4.2 and iOS 7.0.3 the devices will freeze mid supervision restore or will constantly state that the supervision profile cannot be verified. In either case, I have to force restart the iPad, reset it, unsupervise, and finally re-supervise the device. This has only recently happened with iOS 7 and Configurator 1.4.

I have gotten this resolved, but as to how i got this accomplished I am unsure. I ended up deleting the backup image I had created, and starting over from the beginning. I then created a backup at each step of the process, then tested it to see if it failed to apply. At no step in the process did the process fail, so I dont have a clue what change was the culprit. The last issue I'm having, which appears to be fairly widespread, is that when the image is applied theres a 3-5 minute hang where it stays in the "waiting for device to be ready" state. Im not overly concerned about this but it is a pain to have to wait so long for each device to finish. Anyone have a clue about this?

    Hi Sam,
Is that relevant? I was really looking for the location of these configuration options/parameters within either WCS or the WLCs.

  • Using Lenovo's Enhanced Backup & Restore Questions

    Hi all,
I am wondering if anyone has any experience in using Lenovo's Enhanced Backup & Restore.
My situation is that I am thinking of updating the firmware on my MyDigitalSSD 128GB mSATA SSD to the latest version. However, from what I read, the update will wipe the mSATA SSD. Also, at the moment, I have been backing up my C:\ to an external HDD weekly using Lenovo's Enhanced Backup & Restore software.
My question is if my steps below are workable and if the Enhanced Backup & Restore program will restore my system back to the latest backup?
    1. Use Enhanced Backup & Restore program to backup the latest image of my system.
    2. Update firmware on my mSATA SSD. All data will be wiped.
    3. Use my Recovery Discs to restore the mSATA SSD to Lenovo's factory image.
    4. Use Enhanced Backup & Restore program to restore the latest image.
Any comments, anyone? Thanks in advance!

You can only restore to the same hub, as the serial numbers have to match.

  • Backup/restore questions LMS 4.2

    Hello,
I have several questions regarding data migration from LMS 3.2.1 to LMS 4.2.We will perform backup and restore procedure on new LMS4.2 server machine .
    1. I am wondering what will happen with admin password aftrer restore, and all the other passwords in LMS. What will be effective? What will happen with database passwords?
    2. Other thing is : LMS 3.2.1 is installed on D:\ProgramFiles\CSCOpx and the new LMS 4.2.1 is installed in D:\CSCOpx
Will there be problems during restore, because the paths on old and new LMS server are not the same?
    3. When to perform the licensing?  Should I apply license before restore? I think I would have to apply it before beacause customer has 300 devices and eval license iz for 100 only.
    4. Does PI_CM license - Compliance  Management License comes with the product? How do we get this license? I am aware that this CAAM is new feature in 4.2 version so I am not sure does the customer have rights on it. They have bought upgrade from 3.2 to 4.1 and they have valid support contract so we will go to 4.2 version.
    Thanks!
    Marija

    Following are the answers :
    1. LMS's user info and passwords are stored in cwpass file under NMSROOT\lib\classpath\com\cisco\nm\cmf\servlet, which is also
backed up with DB backup. Hence restore would bring all previous user names and passwords.
    2. Ciscoworks has a mechanism which doesn't bothers the install directory. It sets environment variable as NMSROOT which is replaced by
the install directory and hence there should not be any issue. Please note that Inter-OS resotre are not supported.
    3. You can apply the license anytime, but it is good to install it before backup restore, else the excess of devices, more than 100
will go to unmanaged state and will have to be brought back to managed state once lic is applied.
    4. CAAM lic has to be purchased separately. You can contact lic. team or your accounts team for this.Till that time you can use it with its 60 days eval lic.
    -Thanks

  • ALE Configuration Conceptual Questions

    Hi Experts,
I need some help regarding the ALE configurations.
    1. I know that we specify the RFC dest in the port and then specify the port in partner profile. What exactly is the significance of a port in case of outbound Scenario? we could have directly specified the RFC destination in the partner profile.
    2. When we create the TCP/IP RFC destination it creates a TRFC Connection. However in the special options tab we have the option select QRFC version? What is the use of that?
    3. Why does the port created is of TRFC for ALE? Is it that the RFC connection is of TCP/IP so we need a TRFC port?
    4. Why do we need to create TCP/IP rfc destination for ALE, why not HTTP RFC destination?
    5. Is distribution model is mandatory for all the ALE scenarios? If not then when its mandatory?
    6. While creating process code we have option process with/without ALE service. What does that exactly means?
    Thanks
