Configure Search Domains

At our corporate office, we need to enter specific search domains for each of our mobile devices.  I'd like to avoid having to enter these search domains manually into every device.  I tried to use Profile Manager to make a profile to send out, but the search domains option isn't configurable.  Is there any way to push this to all of the devices without having to input it manually on each device?

Hi Phil (and others!)
I opted for the easy choice, which did work... and have added the Search Domain info etc whilst at home... and touch wood today things seem to be working better, i can easily access network preferences etc and have had no hanging apps as yet...
I did try and use different locations for work and home, but sadly i ended up with a spinning beach ball of doom when i tried to change the location at work, so it was a slightly pointless exercise!!!
The lookupd -configuration printout is as follows (no idea if it's useful in any way!)
ConfigSource: default

MaxIdleThreads: 2

  • Configure DNS & Search Domains in TCP/IP Settings via Terminal?

    HI Folks,
    I've been having a long standing battle trying to find out what is wrong with my machine, it's been running like a dog for a while and having recently added 2 new Macs to our network i recall that there was a setting missing - namely within the TCP/IP settings for the Built In Ethernet, the DNS Servers and Search Domains are not configured on my machine, but are on the new ones i've added (mine was my new foray into Macs so i maybe set it up wrong!)
    However the main problem occurs when i try to edit the settings for the above from within System Preferences -> Network, i get a spinning beach ball of doom and have to Force Quit. Yet oddly i can access the setting fine when i am at home and not connected to the AD of the Windows Server Environment... which makes me think the events could be linked.... i thought it may have been Parallels and it's NAT settings, but given that all works perfectly at home i'm not so sure. Hence, as a process of elimination i'd like to try and get the correct settings for Search Domain etc to see if it helps, before i flatten the machine and reinstall Tiger completely!
    The main issues i've been having with the machine can be found here:

  • Struggling to configure search

    I'm extremely new to SharePoint. On our SharePoint environment we have Public Site and Team Site (Intranet). I am trying to configure search for our newly created intranet (teamsite) but am encountering difficulties.
    When opening the main page of our intranet site I already see it has an "out of the box" search bar containing the following verticals:
    - Everything
    - People
    - Conversations
    - This Site
    I simply wanted to add Documents & Media verticals alongside these options in the search navigation, but I think I've modified the Search Center search component instead of the teamsite search.
    To try add the verticals I did the following:
    Went to https://[domain].sharepoint.com/search (I believe this is the Search Center?)
    Created the documents results page by:
    - clicking Site Content > Pages, and creating a new page 'documentresults.aspx'
    Added the documents results page to the verticals
    - navigated to Search Site Settings > Configure Navigation, and added the documentsresults.aspx link to the navigation
    Connected a Results Source to my new vertical
    - navigated to the documentresults page > Edit Page  > Edit Search Results Web Part > Change Query > Selected  Documents Query > clicked OK
    Questions:
    What are the correct actions to modify a teamsite search verticals etc.
    What is the purpose of a Search Center?
    Are there any key configurations I am missing?
     Thanks

    Hi,
    Based on your description, my understanding is that you want to add the search navigation named Documents & Media verticals to your team site search bar which containing the following verticals: 1.Everything
    2.People 3.Conversations 4.This Site
    To add the search navigation named Documents & Media verticals to your team site search bar:
    Go to Site Settings->Search Settings (under Search section) -> Add Linking, add Title and URL-> ok.
    The team site search bar will not inheriting from the parent search page, so the team site search bar will not contain 1.Everything 2.People 3.Conversations 4.This Site,  but you can add those by Add Link as add Documents
    & Media verticals.
    A Search Center site is the top-level site of a site collection that a farm administrator creates by using the Enterprise Search Center template or Basic Search Center template, provides an interface for users to
    submit search queries and view search results from all farm.

  • Local DNS search domain issue

    Hi everyone,
    I have recently upgraded my Macbook from Snow Leopard to Lion, and since then I have some trouble with my local network.
    I work in a local network, so I have set up a local DNS and search domain to let me use local domain like google.com.in
    Everything worked fine in Snow Leopard but with Lion I cannot reach anymore all the *.in domains, I only can reach simple domain like "myserver"
    For the moment I've found a workaround by adding all my domains in the /etc/hosts file but it's a pity because I work with tons of domains.
    Here it is my scutil --dns cmd :

  • Sharepoint Foundation 2013 Configure Search Navigation

    I am testing out the search feature of Foundation 2013 and I want to allow my users to refine their searches via Result Sources.  From the instructions that I have read I should be able to do this in the Global Search Results page that I created ->
    Site Settings -> Search -> Search Settings.  It appears there should be a section for "Configure Search Navigation".  I do not have this option.  Is this something that is disabled in the Foundation edition of Sharepoint?
    For reference here is what I was following for instructions.
    http://en.share-gate.com/blog/sharepoint-2013-search-settings-and-search-box-drop-down-menu About halfway down the page it shows this configuration box.  I cannot see that on my Search Settings page at all.
    I have successfully created a Result Source that does work, but I seemingly have no way of presenting that to the user.  The Navigation WebPart also relies on the "Configure Search Navigation" settings, which I can't see in my setup.
    Suggestions?

    Hello,
    "Configure Search Navigation" is not present in SharePoint Foundation 2013, but it is still available
    via SOM (and PowerShell, of course). Try this if this helps (full url of Search Center on my dev environment is http://dev/search):
    using (var siteCollection = new SPSite("http://dev"))
    using (var site = siteCollection.OpenWeb("search"))
        site.Navigation.SearchNav.AddAsFirst(
            new SPNavigationNode("Test", "http://dev"));
        site.Update();

  • Configure Windows Domain Logon on Airport Express

    The question is... How can I configure Windows Domain Logon data on an Airport Express so it connects automatically without asking each of my other devices for login credentials?
    I use my Airport Express at work connecting it through ethernet, and the network uses Windows Domain credemtials to login, that is user, password and domain server. I have all data needed, this is, static IP, Gateway, DNS, user, password, etc., but I haven't found how to do this inside de Airport Express so I configure just one device instead of 3 or more.
    I have tryed configuring the Airport Express as PPPoE, but that's not the solution for this problem.
    Thanks in advance for the answer.

    Your wireless Netgear router and AirPort Express Base Station (AX) are pretty much useless if you don't have wireless capability for your Dell desktop. The AX uses AirTunes to receive, wirelessly, iTunes from your desktop.
    Just add a wireless card to your Dell and you should be in good shape. In fact, once you go wireless, you can return the Netgear router as your AX will provide Internet connectivity, stream iTunes, and share a USB printer.

  • Best way to configure search toplogoy for multiple servers farm??

    Hi,
    My farm environment is 2 WFE and 2 App servers. Right now i am trying to configure Search Topology. what will be the best way to configure the search topology for this farm, so that query and crawling will be working perfectly. one thing i noticed with my
    previous search application Crawl DB had grown 140 GB, i dont know why it happened. please look at the following screen shot, this the current topology but i want to distribute component to different server.
    Any help will be appreciated!!

    The best topology depends on whether you want it to be fault tolerant or not. For a fault tolerant design with this number of servers I normally create two Index Partitions 0 and 1 with each on one of the App servers.  I then create Replicas of each
    partition on the front end servers. I then put the query role on both web fronts ends and the crawl role on both Ap servers.  So I end up with the following:
    FE1 = Index Replica 0 + Query
    FE2 = Index Replica 1 + Query
    Ap1 = Index 0 + Crawl
    Ap2 = Index 1 + Crawl
