Configure SG-XPCIE8SAS-E-Z LSI 1068E(C0) SAS controller on Solarix 10 x86

I have installed a SAS controller SG-XPCIE8SAS-E-Z on SUNFIRE X4540 machine, this controller was recognized by the OS as mpt6:scsi
cfgadm -al
c5::dsk/c5t7d0 disk connected configured unknown
mpt6:scsi scsi-bus connected unconfigured unknown
usb0/1 unknown empty unconfigured ok
I tried to use
cfgadm -c configure mpt6:scsi
the command finished without any warning (return status was 0), but the controller is still in the "unconfigured" state. Do I need to connect some disks to make it "configured"?
How can I configured it as controller 6 -- c6 and make it "configured"?
I am running on "SunOS bfs4 5.10 Generic_142901-07 i86pc i386 i86pc"
Thank you very much for share your expertise.

That situation can be becouse i compiled my kernel without initrd/or something like that support?
this is not related to mkinitcpio, you need to enable this option in kernel and disable generation of initrd (running mkinitcpio). Two different things.
I mentioned this before: you need to check build-in modules (fs, SATA/SCSI, disk driver all build-in), learn about VM (disabling swap is wrong and will not speed up anything), you have plenty of stuff enabled including massive debugging which will slow down system

  • Controller LSI 1068E and raid 10

    Hi all.
I 'd like to create a raid 10 with raidctl on a Blade 6320. I have 4 disks of 146Gb. After I jumpstarted the blade I did as follow:
    # raidctl -C "(0.0.0 0.1.0)(0.2.0 0.3.0)" -r 10 0
Creating RAID volume will destroy all data on spare space of member disks, proceed (yes/no)? y
Operation not support with volume of this level.
Does anybody know if it's possible? Any clue/suggestions?

  • How to configure RAID 5 sys using SAS controller for APP CS4

Hi I would like to know how to configure my 3 HardDrives (600GB each) on RAID 5 connected to SAS controller to work smoothly with PremierePro CS4. You even have three more connectors free on your Perc controller, so you could add three more disks, without using any motherboard connectors.
I think you have two alternative approaches:
    1. Add a smallish disk as a boot disk, i.e. a 150 GB Velociraptor and install OS and programs there and let your raid5 exist as it is, or
    2. Add another 600 GB to your raid5 to make it a four disk array.
Of course you could also do both. Breaking the raid out to individual disks means that all data on the current raid will be lost, unless you have a backup available, but it will still mean a fresh install of OS & programs, so remember to deactivate Adobe before you do anything to your disk setup like in alternative 1 or breaking out the array.

  • AP is unable to associate. The Regulatory Domain '-E' configured on interface '802.11a' does not match the Controller Regulatory Domain '-C'

    Hi,
There are three different types of APs associated with controller and working fine.
    1.       AIR-LAP1252AG-E-K9
    2.       AIR-LAP1522AG-E-K9
    3.       AIR-CAP1552E-C-K9
WLC is AIR-CT5508-K9. Software version is 7.4.100.0. Field Recovery Image is 7.0.112.21. Firmware version is FPGA 1.7, Env 1.8, USB console 2.2. WCS is 7.0.240.0 for Windows.
WCS is sending alarms for AIR-LAP1522AG-E-K9:
Message: AP is unable to associate. The Regulatory Domain '-E' configured on interface '802.11a' does not match the Controller Regulatory Domain '-C'.
Before Controller was 7.2.4 (not sure).
Country configured on WLC is AE and shows -CE regulatory domain. Mesh APs are also associated.
I believe this Critical alarm should not come.
how much is this alarm important? What should be done to resolve this?

Typically you still need to make sure that the country codes are indeed configured on the WLC. Thing can change when you upgrade code as standards might of changed and regulations also. If your AP's are functional, then you should be okay and I wouldn't worry too much about it, but if after the upgrade, the WLC complains about country code stuff, then you just need to verify that the AP's country code is defined on the WLC. May times the AP will not join and if it does join, the radios might be disabled or in a down status.

  • LSI 1068E SAS/SATA controller Bug + Sun Sparc Enterprise T5440

Something that's very new & very unique
I have never seen before I hope that someone have seen it before & can help me
I have a hardware mirror between two internal disks within the Server
as soon as the power is cut off suddenly the volume becomes inactive in the next time boot up
so u need to go through the OK prompt selecting the Scsi bath for the disks activating the Volume again manually
which is not a practical solution & doesn't satisfy the customer
note that the server isn't in the warranty or maintenance contract so I can't open a case for the problem
so if there is any one who might have any clue for this
I would be so grateful for him
    Thnx & regards

    Hi,
I've not seen such problem in past and not sure what is the ILOM f/w version you are using, but it would be good idea to have the latest f/w applied if you are running low.

  • Windows Server 2012 Storage Spaces Simple RAID 0 VERY SLOW reads, but fast writes with LSI 9207-8e SAS JBOD HBA Controller

Has anyone else seen Windows Server 2012 Storage Spaces with a Simple RAID 0 (also happens with Mirrored RAID 1 and Parity RAID 5) virtual disk exhibiting extremely slow read speed of 5Mb/sec, yet write performance is normal at 650Mb/sec in RAID 0?
    Windows Server 2012 Standard
    Intel i7 CPU and Motherboard
LSI 9207-8e 6Gb SAS JBOD Controller with latest firmware/BIOS and Windows driver.
    (4) Hitachi 4TB 6Gb SATA Enterprise Hard Disk Drives HUS724040ALE640
    (4) Hitachi 4TB 6Gb SATA Desktop Hard Disk Drives HDS724040ALE640
Hitachi drives are directly connected to LSI 9207-8e using a 2-meter SAS SFF-8088 to eSATA cable to six-inch eSATA/SATA adapter.
The Enterprise drives are on LSI's compatibility list.  The Desktop drives are not, but regardless, both drive models are affected by the problem.
Interestingly, this entire configuration but with two SIIG eSATA 2-Port adapters instead of the LSI 9207-8e, works perfectly with both reads and writes at 670Mb/sec.
I thought SAS was going to be a sure bet for expanding beyond the capacity of port limited eSATA adapters, but after a week of frustration and spending over $5,000.00 on drives, controllers and cabling, it's time to ask for help!
    Any similar experiences or solutions?

    1) Yes, being slow either on reads or on writes is a quite common situation for storage spaces. See references (with some of the solutions I hope):

  • X4200 Lsi SAS Controller and...RAID??

    Hi all,
I've got an X4200 with a 4x73 GB SAS drives.
Accessing to LSI Logic configuration I've discovered something I really didn't like.
With 2 disks on a X4100 server I created a RAID-1 and that's ok but with these 4 disks on X4200 the only things I could choose was:
    1. a stripe of the 4 disks and that's absolutely to avoid :-/
    2. a mirror (R1) of the first couple of disks and the 3rd and 4th disks left alone...
I thought that I was able to create at least a stripe of two disks and then to couple in R-1 with another stripe of the remaining ones...nothing to do
I can understand that I can let the os to manage some R-5 but unfortunately I was installing an ESX server 3 that has no driver for dynamic disks...
    Suggestions?

  • LSI SAS3442X-R SAS/SATA HBA Card and an external enclosure.

There are many Sun Systems that only have two drive bays, so expanding internally really isn't an option. However, if you are willing to think outside the box, you have more options.
I found a SAS/SATA card by LSI that supports Solaris SPARC. It has internal and external connectors. It is not cheap. The cheapest I have found was about 212. I believe it is the 8-port version (SAS1068) of the adapter that is built in to the T2000. (SAS1064)
Right now, I am thinking about getting that card and an external SATA enclosure which will hold around 4 drives. SATA drives are relatively cheap, so a workable solution would be to get a pair and mirror them.
BTW, I am a probably upgrading to a Sun Blade 2000. It would be kind of pointless to spend more on storage than a Blade 100 is worth.
    http://www.lsilogic.com/storage_home/products_home/host_bus_adapters/sas_hbas/lsisas3442xr/index.html

This card is not an option on your Sun Blade 100 anyway - it's a 3.3V only card & is keyed so that it won't fit in the Sun Blade PCI slot. Ask me how I know :-)
The thing is that in the Sun Systems Handbook the PCI slots on the Sun Blade 100 and 150 are listed as 3.3v/5v and 32/64 bit. So, looking that the specs it seems like it is supposed to work. However, looking more closely at the docs, the PCI riser card FRU part description states "The PCI signaling is 5V, 32Bits, 33MHz".
If I knew that the signalling was both 3.3v and 5v I'd probably remove the PCI key. However, if it's really 5v I'd just likely destroy my LSI card :-S
I wanted very badly to get an external enclosure for some more storage on my 100 and it looks like I'm about out of options (firewire panics the kernel from time to time under heavy I/O). I'm thinking of finally dumping my SPARC gear and moving over to x86 out of frustration.. I would be SPARCless for the first time in 15 years.

  • Cabling & configuring D1000 with two 420R with two dual channel controller

    Hi all,
I have a problem for configure a D1000 storage with two Sun Enterprise 420R with on board two dual channel scsi controller for each one.
The D1000 have 4 disks installed, the disks are positioned in the slots 2,3,7,8 and the option swith on rear of D1000 are configured :
    5 4 3 2 1
    DOWN DOWN DOWN DOWN UP
The Module ID switch are positioned at 0 (I have only one D1000) and the leds of the disks on the D1000 are on.
I have a problem to view all disks from both Sun.
How to I do the cabling the D1000 with the two Sun ? I drew a diagram of my environment to understand how to connect correctly the connectors behind the D1000 and behind the Sun.
    http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/4097/schemascsid1000.jpg
Can anyone help me? Any help is appreciated.

are you using HVD scsi controllers? Gotsta doo that with D1000...
if you just want to have each 420R use two drives, then scsi cables on each side and differential terminators in the middle.
if you want to share the drives, you will have to do your homework.
    good luck,

    Hello,
I would suggest that you download both patches (140952-01 is obsoleted by 140952-02 while 140951-01 is still current) and review the contained Install.info file.
Usually this files contains a sample run of the update process. I'm sure that the updater detects if you try to apply the firmware for the wrong hardware revision. It asks for confirmation before the update is applied.
Did you review the Sun System Handbook page for the T5520 systemboard (there should be notes about the LSI 1068E hardware revision) ?
I don't have access to the current contract-only SSH.

  • X4100 - reboots when I'm trying to get into LSI configuration

    Hello.
I've problem with my X4100 (amd64) servers. When I try to get RAID configuration utility (CTRL+C during LSI startup screen) my server hangs and reboots immediately.
More over - the same problem is with two of my X4100 (bought as I suppose on the same time).
Is my server broken and I need to repair it, or is it some kind of software problem (bios?).

    HI Atul,

domain group and tp config file and all the required rfc's like
tmsadm@domainname and other. It will not ask any password.
Can u be clear with ur question exactly what problem ur getting?
Is this the first time you are trying to configure stms or you want to move
your domain controller to other system.

  • DirectAccess Server 2012 Configuration cannot be retrieved from domain controller

    Hi everyone,
We are using DirectAccess over Server 2012. There is just one server, no load balancing.
Everything works fine, all clients can connect successfully and operations status page shows all in green. Nevertheless on the dashboard page in the configuration status section it say “Configuration for server [servername] cannot be retrieved
    from the domain controller.”
I found a few hints what could cause this problem:
In my case, the RAConfigTask, a scheduled task, was not enabled on the affected WS2012 server (DA entry point in a multisite deployment). After just enabling it, the errors has gone."
    http://blog.gocloud-security.ch/2013/01/11/ws2012-directaccess-and-the-configuration-for-server-server-name-retrieved-from-the-domain-controller-cannot-be-applied-error/
Group Policy was filtering out my DA server from the GPO object for some reason. To fix, I opened up Group Policy Management on the domain controller and made sure that my DA server was a part of the group."http://www.joedissmeyer.com/2012/12/more-issues-and-solutions-for.html
Server has no connectivity to the domain in order to update the policies. Run “gpupdate /force” on the server to force policy update. GPO replication might be required in order to retrieve the updated configuration.
This could be because there is no writable domain controller in the Active Directory site of the Remote Access server. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverNIS/thread/56fedb17-1274-4e1a-b2d0-fea809f0bc45
I checked everything. Task is enabled and completed successfully, GPO is not filtered out, run gpupdate without any errors, could connect to domain controller, no errors on domain controller, domain controller is writable.
So, I have no idea what could cause this error. Any ideas or hints?
    Thanks
