Conflicting Information/Router Address problem

Now, I realize this topic has been discussed previously, however, it would seem that my problem has more to it than that.
When I plug my ethernet cable to my brand new airport express which i JUST bought today, i get an error telling me my IP address is invalid, there fore i checked one of those websites that tells your IP address and it turns out that the address i COMPLETLY different from the one provided in my info, therefore i tried chaning the IP address in the internet connection tab, but doing so demands a router address, which i have absolutly no clue what it is.
all updates are uploaded, the only thing i cant seem to update is version 7.1.1.
please, i really need help...

Looks like you're trying to extend your AEBSn network wirelessly with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS)--correct?
If so, then here are the steps to do so...
WDS Setup
(Note: To facilitate the WDS set up, place the base stations within near proximity of each other during the set up phase, and then relocate them to their desired locations when complete.)
Main Base Station Setup (AEBSn)
- Click the AirPort status menu in the menu bar and choose the wireless network created by the base station you want to set up as the main base station.
- Open AirPort Utility (located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a Macintosh computer, or in Start > All Programs > AirPort on a computer using Windows).
- Select the main base station, and choose Manual Setup from the Base
Station menu, or double-click the base station to open the configuration in a separate window.
- Enter the base station password if necessary. If the base station is using the
default password of public, you will not be prompted for a password.
- Click Wireless in the toolbar, and then choose “Participate in a WDS network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu.
- Click WDS and then choose “WDS main” from the WDS Mode pop-up menu.
- Select the “Allow wireless clients” checkbox if you want client computer to connect to this base station.
- Click the Add button and enter the MAC address of the base stations you want to connect to this base station.
- Click Update to send the new settings to the base stations in the WDS.
Remote Base Station Setup (AX)
- Click the AirPort status menu in the menu bar and choose the wireless network created by the base station you want to set up as a remote base station.
- Open AirPort Utility (in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a Macintosh computer, or in Start > All Programs > AirPort on a computer using Windows).
- Select the remote base station, and choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu.
- Enter the base station password, if necessary. If the base station is using the default password of public, you will not be prompted for a password.
- Enter the same network password as the main base station, if necessary.
- Click AirPort in the toolbar and click Wireless. Choose “Participate in a WDS network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and choose the same channel as the main base station from the Channel pop-up menu.
- Click WDS and choose “WDS remote” from the pop-up menu.
- Enter the MAC address of the main base station in the WDS Main field. The MAC address is also referred to as the AirPort ID and is printed on the label on the bottom of the base station.
- Click Update to transfer the settings to the base station.

  • "IP and router address not consistent with subnet mask"

    Hi all,
i have one of the old Powermac G5's running os x 10.3.5 "Panther" with a dual 2.5ghz processor, 512mb or ram, 160 gig hd, and no wireless card. I've been trying to hook the computer up to my network via an Ethernet cable (I have a Linksys WRT54G series router).
the problem is this: When I go through the Network utilities using the "assist me" option, select the LAN option, put in the necessary information (IP address, subnet mask, router address, and the dns host), and select continue, this message pops up:"IP and router address not consistent with subnet mask".
What I've found is that no matter if the computer is plugged in with a cable to the Ethernet port the message comes up which is very unusual.
    Thanks in advance.

Have you verified that you indeed have the proper subnet entered?
Why don't you just let the Mac obtain its ip address from the router via DHCP?

  • Can't connect to ISP until ping ISP router address

I recently added a new MacBook (w/latest 10.5 updates) and had a lot of difficulty getting it to connect to our ISP through our AE. So much so that I reset our AE and re-entered all the information, creating a new network name and new network password. The AE is setup to share a specific ISP supplied IP address with a specific ISP provided router IP address and 2 specific ISP provided DNS IP addresses using DHCP and distributing a range of IP addresses for our 3 computers (2 airport connected MacBooks and 1 wired enet connected iMac). I also set it up to bind specific IP addresses to each computers MAC address using the airport MAC addresses for the MacBooks and enet MAC address for the iMac.
Now when I try to connect from the older MacBook or iMac (both of which are running 10.4.11) it may or may not work until I actually ping the ISP router address from a terminal app window. Once I've pinged the ISP router the connections seem to be okay for a while.
If I shut down the computer(s) and come back the next day I have to ping the router again before I can make a connection. I've not yet seen this problem with the new MacBook that's running the latest 10.5.
Any ideas why I need to ping the ISP router from the older (10.4.11) computers before connections can be made?
Have I missed some configuration step in the AE?

Thanks for your respond . I gave it a try and still didn't work . Here the thing I been messing around with the setting just to be sure I enter everything right I could of change a setting that I shouldn't of , now I'm not sure if everything is correct . Where is the guide or steps I can follow to be sure my setting are correct . I'm using cable connection . I know my pop and smtp are correct but I'm not sure as to whether the other areas are . I mean if this or that should be check .

  • How can I move address book information between Address Book and Entourage?

(I have the same question regarding iCal and Entourage.) I have a lot of important information to enter, info that would be very difficult to relocate. I had some problems with iCal awhile back (it started randomly deleting events), so I am trying to figure out which program(s) to use. Since I don't have much experience with these, I would ideally like to be able to start in Entourage since that program seems better laid out for me, but be able to export the information to Address Book and iCal so I can make use of the Address Book widget feature, etc.
Is it realistically possible to export from Entourage into AB and iCal and how do you it?
Also, I have a first generation iPod, and just got an iPod Touch so that I could have access to this information on the go, along with the rather lame "notes" approach to entering information (while I hope for a free upgrade that will allow me to edit my calendar). So I am also trying to figure out:
How do I export Entourage information onto my iPod Touch? Can it be done directly easily now or does it need to go through AB and iCal?
I've done that on my old iPod, but it was very confusing between "identities"?? and remembering exactly how to do it again one I figured it out. I had to locate a copy of Tiger just to manage to get the iPod Touch, so I am grateful for any suggestions of the best way to do this.

Whoever told you that was incorrect, as far as I am concerned. Firefox still is more customizable that the "competition", but not as much as previous versions were.
The Home button can be moved, but the Back / Forward combo button is attached to the Address Bar - they can't be separated.
The combo Stop / Reload button is locked in the Address Bar.<br />
The old "Activity Indicator" is gone. Deemed unnecessary with the loading animation on the left corner of each tab, where the Favicon appears once the page is fully loaded.

  • Change router address?

Our SMC router died today at work. I replaced it with a new Airport Extreme. Now all the Windows computers here are looking for a specific router address. Rather then change them all, I would like to just change the router address to match that of the previous. Cant seem to figure out how to change the address. I can see the address, but cant make any changes to it. Is this not an option? Or what am I missing here?

My guess would be that the 64.230.197.40 address is the WAN side IP address that you are receiving from your service provider.
The 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.1.1 is the local area network address. Depending on which range you choose, devices connected to the AirPort Extreme will receive IP addresses as follows 192.168.1.2, 192.168.1.3, etc. Or if you are using 10.0.1.1 as the router address, then it would go 10.0.1.2, 10.0.1.3, etc.
I think your devices should be pointed to either 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.1.1.
If you open AirPort Utility and click on your AirPort Extreme, to the right you will see some information about the device. The IP address of the device on your local network will be displayed there. If you haven't changed the DHCP ranges, the IP address will be 10.0.1.1.

  • What is Router Address in Airport Extreme

I am trying to configure Airport Extreme for Cable modem(Comcast). Please help me on what i need to fill in Router address field for 'using DHCP' option.
Can I see the address in Airport extreme itself or is it is referring to any IP or something.

I was having problems connecting the Time Capsule to our Roadrunner modem. Time Capsule gets the IP address from the cable modem, but you have to convince the modem to accept that its router has changed and it needs to re-assign the IP address. One way is to turn the modem off, wait a bit, and turn it back on.
For me, suggestions to power off the modem didn't work. But this was because the modem works for our phone service, too, and it has battery back-up. Unplugging the modem never forced it to reconnect.
What worked was disconnecting the modem from the cable. I unscrewed the F-connector (antenna cable) from the back of the modem, waited a few minutes, then reconnected. I got a green light!

  • Conflicting information regarding running chkdsk on replica volumes.

I am seeing conflicting information on using chkdsk on replica volumes.  I have a disk replica that appears to have a corrupted file that is preventing the tape backup from completing.  I have seen suggestions on TN that using chkdsk /f against
the replica volume could fix the problem but I also see information on Technet (.bb795857.aspx) that it could also cause a loss of all recovery points.  Has anyone successfully run this against a replica volume in DPM 2012 R2 with no loss of recovery
    points?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Running chkdsk on the Replica can be done without with out too much concern as Shadow copy volume is still online and VSS can track changes made to the Replica and perform copy-on-write (cow) to maintain current active snapshot.
Running chkdsk on the "recovery point" volume takes some precautions.  You need to cancel any running and all future scheduled jobs that effect the datasource whose recovery point volume you want to run chkdsk on.  This is because while chkdsk
has taken the volume offline to have exclusive use, any writes to the replica could lead to invalidating the shadow copies.  In theory, VSS Shadow copy protection mode should prevent that, but to be safe, I would take the extra precaution.

  • Conflicting information over availability of BT In...

I live in St Austell, which is one of the 6 pilot areas for FTTP and according to recent press releases it has already gone live but when I look around all I am seeing is conflicting information.
According to the line checker at the BT Infinity page I am not in an area that is enabled yet for fibre optic and Sam Knows says St Austell won't be getting FTTC until December of 2012 but if I do the postcode check at BT Wholesale it says FTTC is already enabled... We are about 100m from the nearest cabinet and I saw BT digging up the road outside our house over a month ago.
Currently I'm on an LLU ADSL2 connection through Xilo and the line rental is through Sky, so I don't know if that is confusing matters but I've been unable to get any kind of clear answer from BT on when we are likely to get access to a fibre optic connection and whether it will be FTTP or FTTC. It could be a week or it could be a year... Since I work from home via the internet a genuinely fast unlimited broadband connection is something I'd like to see enabled as soon as possible.
Is there any way to cut through all this conflicting information and find out what options we will have and when?

I noticed a person asking for help help identifying the cabinet they are connected to and when/if it's due Infinity.
Dean a BT forum Mod replied and he mentioned "and others".
It might be worth contacting... See Message #13 and the contact form is in #15.
They will probably need address/post code/phone number... anything you can think of that will help them to identify your location.
It may take 72hrs or so to get a reply due their workload.
Note when you use a checker  the only way to get an accurate result is by entering a telephone number.... if you have BT line.
The Post code result is only for an area and within that area some cabs have been done and some haven't.

  • Setting up AirPort Extreme/Router Address?

During setup, I am getting an "invalid IP address" error message. I have checked with my ISP and they have verified my IP Address, Subnet Mask, and DNS Server Numbers. They indicated that they do not have [use] a Router Address, and that I must obtain it from Apple. When I attempt to populate the Router Address field with the Ethernet number found on the bottom of the Extreme unit, it is not recognized (accepted) because it contains letters, not just numbers. This problem appears to be the only thing preventing me from successfully completing the set up. What is a Router Address anyway?
A solution to my problem will be much appreciated. I see from the volumes of questions being posted about AirPort Extreme setup that many are not simply taking it out of the box and setting it up successfully in "about five minutes" as advertised.
    Thank you,
    Dr. Eric

I tried what you suggested, and many other things. None solved my problem. However, what did solve my problem was downloading the latest (posted Jan 25) Airport Extreme update. Once I did that, I opened the AirpPort Utility, went through the setup process, and I now have an internet connection. When I went through setup, a router address was automatically assigned.
    Thanks for you input.

  • Cisco PA's route point problem

I recognize the interceptor point, PA access number which need to setup CTI route point and are assigned with JTAPI user. However, the CTI route point in CCM always show "NOT FOUND". I have checked that the CCM and PA service components are up and running. So, Could anyone advise how I can trace the problem of CTI route point failure?
    Thanks a lot.
    Note: CCM 4.1(3)sr3b, PA 1.4(3)

    Thanks for your reply.
I have checked that several times and still show NOT FOUND.
    Belows are the procedures.
    1) On CCM, create user with userid = "pauser" and assign the RPs and media ports with it.
    2) On PA > telephony, create one Jtapi (userid="pauser") and Skinny profiles.
    3) On PA > server configuration, select "Jtapi" profile for items Route Address Provider and Interceptor Port Provider. Add RP number to the route address field....etc
Are there any traces, error logs or troubleshooting guide that I can follow to?
    Thanks for help.

  • HH3 Airport Extreme DNS / router address issues

I have a HH3 hard wired (ethernet) from HH port 1 to the small circle port on the Airport Extreme.  The AE extends the network around the house via Airport express and we have done this by creating a new network so we can connect either to the HH or to the AEBS network.  The AEBS is set to bridge mode but wrong DNS and router addresses are given out by both HH and AEBS when the AE is turned on (192.1.68.1.2 instead of 192.168.1.254).  We can bypass the issue by setting these manually but would prefer not to have to.  If I turn the AE off, the HH issues the correct DNS and router addresses.  I am asking the same question on the Apple forums but not everyone there is familiar with the HH.

Bizarrely, having tried every configuration on the AE, reminded of something vofsanity said to me in a previous thread, I unplugged a powerline extender and the problem seems to have fixed itself!

  • What is Router Address?

    Hello all
Setting up the new Airport Extreme Base station. I have one question.
In the Internet Connection menu, I changed it to using Ethernet and the Configure IPv4 to Manually.
I typed in the IP Address and Subnet Mask but I don't understand what is the Router Address?
    Is that the Default Gateway?

The Internet Connection tab settings are used to configure the Internet or WAN-side of the router. In most cases your ISP provides this information automatically to your router when you select Using DHCP for the Configure IPv4 setting. When you choose Manually you would have to enter these values yourself ... which, of course, you would need to get these from your ISP.

  • Actiontec MI424WR Router Connection Problems

Over the past several days I have continued to have intermittent internet connection problems. All my computers are wired eithernet connections to the Verizon FIOS Actiontec router. I called FIOS tech support yesterday and they were no help, the said they found no problems with the connection.  The tech support said it was most liley a problem with using Dell Computers as most problems that he has had to troubleshoot were Verizon Customers who used Dell Computers.  Well I have 3 Dell Computers and 2 are VIsat and 1 XP...All have the same intermittent internet connection problesms.   I notice that wihle  tying to connect to a webpage the Actiontec router looses connection, the WAN Coax and Internet lights go out.  It take the router 10 -30 secs to reconnect to the internet. I have re-booted and also have performed a hard re-set of the Actiontec router, same problem still ocurring again today. It has ocurring on all 3 computers and there is no specific website. Just a couple a minutes ago lost conneciton while reviewing the football scores on ESPN.com.
Does this look like bad router or NAT Address problem that people are talking about.

The first thing I would check is your coax connections.  You shouldn't be loosing your Coax wan connection.  Check it there are any old splitters on the coax, check the ends and make sur ethey aren't cruddy crimped connectors.  If everything is new I would call the fsc and tell them that your loosing your wan coax light and arrange to have a field tech visit.  It could be something as simple as wiring or something more involved such as replacing your ont.
