Confusion with Indexing

Hello,
I have recently taken over building/maintaining the online
resource my company uses. There has been a push to have "more"
avaialble via the index, however when I attempt to provide this I
run into problems.
For this to make sense a quick back ground.
We have many diffrent topics, and each topic has many
diffrent book marks. These book marks are or course relevant and
save time. The alternative being a time consuming scrolling through
the whole topic.
I understand how to link my index to these spcific bookmarks,
however I was hoping for something a little more intuative.
I have also tried using the Index Wizard, but those keywords
linked to the topic as a whole and not the individual bookmark.
Recently I have discovered that while in the Index area if
you right click on a bookmark you want to add and then select
"properties", there is an option to add your own key words.
However again this key words link to the document has a whole
and not the bookmark I have clicked on.
Is there a way to have a bookmark connected to more then one
keyword, without having to enter it in manually many times?
I hope there is.
Cheers

Hi Leon,
It is HTML - I didn't explain myself well.
When you manually create an index you can have parent entries
in the index, and associate child index entries with those parents.
Essentially you can create a two level index.
Parent A
...Child 1
...Child2
Parent B
...Child3
...Child4
When you've compiled the file and use the index you'd
normally type in a term you want to locate in the index - for
example 'Fixture'.
The search in the index will locate 'Fixture' if it is at
parent level, but will not locate it if it is a child entry.
You can still associate topics with both parent and child
entries, and you will be taken to them when you click on the index
entry.
To give you an example, suppose i set up an Index structure
like:
Fixture
...Adding
...Editing
...Deleting
Gondola
...Adding
...Editing
...Deleting
I would be able to find Fixture or Gondola by typing in the
term at the top of the Index tab in the compiled file. However,
typing in Adding would not give a match.
I had hoped to set up a visually neat manual index that would
griup terms logically, like an index in a book, but apparently you
can't do this in RH.
If you have to do it all on one level 'Adding Fixture' comes
at a very different point in the Index to 'Editing Fixture'.

  • RE: (forte-users) Confusion with return event

    Samer,
The return event is delivered to the calling task, which is the window in
your first test. It is not deliverd to the event loop of the service object
unless the call to the processor originated in the event loop, which is the
case in your second test. The output you get from the server is exactly as I
    would expect.
You need the following code in you client:
    event loop
    postregister
    SomeService1.StartImmediate();
    when SomeService1.Proc.ProcessEvent_return do
    task.Part.Logmgr.Putline('ProcessEvents_return');
    when SomeService1.Proc.ProcessEvent_exception do
    task.Part.Logmgr.Putline('ProcessEvents_exception');
    end event;
Note that this logoutput will not be written to a logfile, but will appear
in the logwindow which is opened when you start a client application.

Subject: (forte-users) Confusion with return event
I have observed some odd behavior when attempting to
catch a return event for a method invoked using start
task. I provided the primary classes I used during my
test and some output produced by those classes at the
    bottom of this message.
The SomeService1 class is used to create an
environment visible service object and the Processor
class is one of its members. The Processor class
starts processing when one of two things happens: the
SomeService1 timer ticks off 10 seconds or when
    SomeService1.StartImmediate is called directly by
another entity. Either way StartImmediate is called to
    start processing.
The provided output is the result of starting a test
application and invoking StartImmediate from another
object (I used a window) and then observing what
happens when the timer ticks. As you can see the
invocation from the window did not result in the
return event being received. However, the return event
was received when the timer ticked.
According to the Forte documentation a return event
will only be posted to the parent task's event queue.
Since I am making a cross partition call, the window
and service object are not really in the same task
(Unless my assumption is wrong). That would explain
why the window did not cause a return event to be
generated but was an event generated but not caught
and if so where did the event go?
In SomeService2 class I added an event StartProcessing
and moved the code from StartImmediate to the
StartProcessing event case in the event loop and
simply posted the StartProcessing event in
StartImmediate. I performed the same test I used when
testing SomeService1. The Traceback output is
identical for the window invocation but the return
event is received this time! Why?
It seems that to guarantee the receipt of a return
event an asynchronous task must be initiated from
within an event loop. Is this correct?
I do not understand this behavior does someone have
any thoughts on this? How can you guarantee the
    receipt of a return event?

Yes, you're right. The return event is queued until the moment that you
actually enter an eventloop. I stand corrected.

I think it is always safe to use start task with where complition = event
clause before event loop. The reason is described in Forte Help in the
    Complition Clause index:
"Requesting the return and exception events automatically registers the
events for the calling task. When the asynchronous method completes or
terminates, Forté adds the appropriate event to the calling task's event
    queue.
This registration is unlike the event registration for the event statement.
In the event statement, the event is registered just before the event
statement is ready to process the event. In the start task statement, the
return and exception events are registered when the task is started, even
though it can be much later on that your application is prepared to wait for
those events. Therefore, only the "parent" task that executes the start task
statement is registered for the completion event of the started task."
and some comments from "Forte Performance and Patterns" page 18:
"When you use the where completion = event clause in the start task
statement, Forte automatically buffer the return event until you register
for it. Therefore, you do not need to worry about the child task completing
before you register for its return event".

Yes, if you want the eventloop of the service object to be informed when
    the
method on the processor class is invoked, regardless of who invoked it,
    then
you should simply post an event as the last statement inside the method on
    the processor class.
The return events are only used to inform a partent task that a child-task
has completed. So, only the calling task receives the event, only if the
calling task is inside an event-loop at the moment the child-task
    terminates
and only if there really is a child task (method started using "start task
Note, that the calling task doesn't have to be inside an event loop when
    the
asynchronous call is made. It has to be inside an eventloop when the
asynchronous task terminates. The following piece of code works just as
    well:
    SomeService1.StartImmediate();
    self.DoSomeOtherStuff();
    event loop
    when SomeService1.Proc.ProcessEvent_return do
    task.Part.Logmgr.Putline('ProcessEvents_return');
    when SomeService1.Proc.ProcessEvent_exception do
    task.Part.Logmgr.Putline('ProcessEvents_exception');
    end event;
However, if the asynchronous task started from within "StartImmediate"
finishes before the client gets a chance to enter its event loop, then
you're too late to catch the event. That's why it's safer to use the
"postregister" function, which makes sure a certain action is not started
untill all events from the event loop have been registered.

    Pascal,
So you are confirming that a return event can only be
received in an event loop if a task is started from
    within that event loop.
After making your proposed changes I was able to
receive the return event in the window.
I originally wanted the SomeService event loop to
always receive the return event regardless of whether
or not StartImmediate is called by some other entity
or called when the timer ticks. It seems that the only
way to do this is with events. Is that correct?
    Thank you for insight,

I have 7 different KBs I maintain on my webserver. I am using RoboHelp 7. For one of them, I have to append the URL with /index.htm, or it does not show the correct information. Examples of two of the KBs, and what happens with & without the index.htm appendeden

  • Problem with index in merged projects

    Dear Sir,
I have a problem with index in the master project, I can only
view the master project index keywords under the index tab. My
master project contains 2 topics besides the other sub projects. I
have created index for all sub projects indvidually and at the end
I created the master project index.
I made sure that the 'Binary Index' flag is ticked before
compilation and stil the problem is on, do somebody know what could
    be the problem.

    Hi,
    Two points here.
Firstly, you can duplicate SSL's. (Right click on an SSL in
the projects sub-directory and select the duplicate layout option.
This will give you a copy of the original SSL).
I tend to have two SSL's - one is local and I use that every
time I test compile the project when I'm working on it.
The other is set to output to the master project. I use that
once I'm happy with the sub-project and start working with the
    master project.
Second point is to be aware of how RoboHelp treats the
imported/merged .chm files from the sub projects.
It imports them into the main project master directory - then
when the master project is compiled it puts a copy of them into the
master project SSL. However, if you re-compile it doesn't overwrite
the files that are already in the master project SSL directory.
This is why you have to be aware of where the sub project
.chm files are going - you need to make sure that if you revise the
sub projects, a fresh copy of the .chm files ends up in the output
SSL directory of the master project.

  • Transactional replication very slow with indexes on Subscriber table

I have setup Transactional Replication for one of our databases where one table with about 5mln records is replicated to a Subsriber database. With every replication about 500-600.000 changed records are send to the Subscriber.
Since one month I see very strange behaviour when I add about 10 indexes to the Subscriber table. As soon as I have added the indexes replication speed becomes extremely slow (almost 3 hours for 600k records). As soon as I remove the indexes the replication
is again very fast, about 3 minutes for the same amount of records.
I've searched a lot on the internet to solve this issue but can't find any explaination for this strange behaviour after adding the indexes. As far as I know it doesn't have to be a problem to add indexes to a Subscriber table, and it hasn't been before on
    another replication configuration we use.

Can someone please help me with this issue? Any ideas?
    Pim

    Hi Megens:
Insert statement might be slow with not only indexes and few others things too
    0) SQL DB Blocking during inserts
    1) If any insert triggers are existed
    2) Constraints - if any
    3) Index fragmentation
    4) Page splits / fill factor
Without indexes inserts will be fast because, each time when new row going to insert to the table, SQL Server will do
    1) it will check for the room, if no room page splits will happen and record will placed at right place
    2) Once the record updated all the index should be update
    3) all these extra update work will cause can make insert statement bit slow
Its better to have index maintenance jobs frequently to avoid fragmentation.
If every thing is clear on SQL Server Side, you need look up on DISK IO, N/W Latency between the servers and so on
    Thanks,
Thanks, Satish Kumar. Please mark as this post as answered if my anser helps you to resolves your issue :)

  • New bug in 8.02 - regions confused with each other

So, I just updated to 8.02, and loaded up a recent project that was half finished (bad idea).
Now I have some strange bugs going on that I never had before, and they are basic issues.
My audio regions keep getting confused with each other.
I have an audio region that I can't open in the sample editor. When I double click on it, the sample editor will bring up the last region I edited, not the new one. I've re-named the region, deleted it and re-added it to the arrange window, but this region will not open in the sample editor.
I can see it in my media bin, and preview it there, and it plays in my arrangement no problem, but I can't get it to open in the sample editor. In fact sometimes when I click on it, with the media window open, I can see another sample being 'selected' in the media window instead of the proper audio region.
    Scott

finally i find someone else with the same prob, o already post into apple.com too
yes here the same, bug new in 8.0.1, cause on logic 8.0.0 all works fine (except some click noise when you pre-listen a file in autoloop)
however here what i can say to you (it's 3 days i'm studyng this cause i make a massive use of ultrabeat)
    - no matter both power pc / intel soffer of this bug
    - i try to update to leopard from my 10.4.11 (same bug) tryin a new os installation (same bug), tryn without audio card and driver (same bug)
so i really don't know how to solve it, cause there are only few people that have this problem
    big mistake and big mistery

  • Socket Programing in J2ME - Confused with Sun Sample Code

    Hai Everybody,
I have confused with sample code provided by Sun Inc , for the demo of socket programming in J2ME. I found the code in the API specification of J2ME. The code look like :-
// Create the server listening socket for port 1234
    ServerSocketConnection scn =(ServerSocketConnection) Connector.open("socket://:1234");
where Connector.open() method return an interface Connection which is the base interface of ServerSocketConnection. I have confused with this line , is it is possible to cast base class object to the derived class object?
Plese help me in this regards
    Thanks in advance
    Sulfikkar

There is nothing to be confused about. The Connector factory creates an implementation of one of the extentions of the Connection interface and returns it.
For a serversocket "socket://<port>" it will return an implementation of the ServerSocketConnection interface. You don't need to know what the implementation looks like. You'll only need to cast the Connection to a ServerSocketConnection .

  • How to batch rename with index/counter all files in a project?

I have a project with files named with an index (I believe that is the correct term).  For example, the files are named XX1, XX2, and so on.  However, some files have the same name because I imported from two different memory cards, without thinking to set the starting number for the second import into the same project.  I would like to batch rename all of the files (masters and versions) with a consecutive index (1, 2, 3, and so on).  How can this be done?  I have found in the manual the way to do this on import, but not how to correct my mistake now.  Thanks!

I would like to batch rename all of the files (masters and versions) with a consecutive index (1, 2, 3, and so on).
Select the images in the project and then use ( from the main Aperture application menu)
         Matadata -> Batch Change (Shift-Command-B)
Set the Version Name format to one of the "Custom with Index ..." or "Custom with Counter ..." formats and check "Apply to Master Files". Make sure you disable all other changes that you do not want, like Time Zone correction, or keywords.

  • SQL query performance difference with Index Hint in Oracle 10g

    Hi,
I was having a problem in SQL select query which was taking around 20 seconds to get the results. So, by hit and trail method I added Index Oracle Hint into the same query with the list of indexes of the tables and the results are retrieved with in 10 milli seconds. I am not sure to get How this is working with Indexes Hint.
The query with out Index Hint:
    select /*+rule*/ FdnTab2.fdn, paramTab3.attr_name from fdnmappingtable FdnTab, fdnmappingtable FdnTab2, parametertable paramTab1 ,parametertable paramTab3  where FdnTab.id=52787 and paramTab1.id= FdnTab.id  and paramTab3.id = FdnTab.id  and paramTab3.attr_value = FdnTab2.fdn  and paramTab1.attr_name='harqUsersMax' and paramTab1.attr_value <> 'DEFAULT' and exists ( select ParamTab2.attr_name from parametertable ParamTab2, templaterelationtable TemplateTab2  where TemplateTab2.id=FdnTab.id  and ParamTab2.id=TemplateTab2.template_id  and ParamTab2.id=FdnTab2.id  and ParamTab2.attr_name=paramTab1.attr_name)  ==> EXECUTION TIME: 20 secs
The same query with Index Hint:
    select /*+INDEX(fdnmappingtable[PRIMARY_KY_FDNMAPPINGTABLE],parametertable[PRIMARY_KY_PARAMETERTABLE])*/ FdnTab2.fdn, paramTab3.attr_name from fdnmappingtable FdnTab, fdnmappingtable FdnTab2, parametertable paramTab1 ,parametertable paramTab3 where FdnTab.id=52787 and paramTab1.id= FdnTab.id and paramTab3.id = FdnTab.id and paramTab3.attr_value = FdnTab2.fdn and paramTab1.attr_name='harqUsersMax' and paramTab1.attr_value <> 'DEFAULT' and exists ( select ParamTab2.attr_name from parametertable ParamTab2, templaterelationtable TemplateTab2 where TemplateTab2.id=FdnTab.id and ParamTab2.id=TemplateTab2.template_id and ParamTab2.id=FdnTab2.id and ParamTab2.attr_name=paramTab1.attr_name) ==> EXECUTION TIME: 10 milli secs
Can any one suggest what could be the real problem?
    Regards,
    Purushotham

    Sorry,
The right query and the explain plan:
    select /*+rule*/ FdnTab2.fdn, paramTab3.attr_name from fdnmappingtable FdnTab, fdnmappingtable FdnTab2, parametertable paramTab1 ,parametertable paramTab3  where FdnTab.id=52787 and paramTab1.id= FdnTab.id  and paramTab3.id = FdnTab.id  and paramTab3.attr_value = FdnTab2.fdn  and paramTab1.attr_name='harqUsersMax' and paramTab1.attr_value <> 'DEFAULT' and exists ( select ParamTab2.attr_name from parametertable ParamTab2, templaterelationtable TemplateTab2  where TemplateTab2.id=FdnTab.id  and ParamTab2.id=TemplateTab2.template_id  and ParamTab2.id=FdnTab2.id  and ParamTab2.attr_name=paramTab1.attr_name)

  • Collect statement with index

    Hi
can anyone give me some idea  how to use collect statement with index

    INSERT WA_ALVDISPLAY   INTO IT_ALVDISPLAY  index  3 .
    thanks.

    hi
    my scenario is like this
i need an yearly report of a examination held in a school based on month, each month they need report for girls and boys separately
the output format should be like this
    month:marks( boys)  marks( girls )
so i have created 3 internal tables suppose itab ,itab1,itab2.
    itab1-month1
    itab1-boy_sub1
    itab1-boy_sub2
    itab2-month2
    itab2-girl_sub1
    itab2-girl_sub2
    itab -month1
    itab -boy_sub1
    itab -boy_sub2
    itab -girl_sub1
    itab -girl_sub2
first i am looping in itab1 and using COLLECT statement i am inserting data to itab (bez in a month more than one exam can happen)
i got boys mark in itab, then i need to put girls mark on the same row based on month
based on particular index i need to insert data, moreover i need to use COLLECT statement for getting the total of particular month
    thanks

  • Broken links with index keywords

Using RH 8, I have 20 broken links associated with index keywords. can someone advise how to easily get rid of these broken links?
    Many thanks

I assume you are talking about links to index keywords rather than unused index keywords. If so, you have references to those index keywords somewhere inside your project. Your options are to repair the links or remove the references. If you right click on each broken link there are options to Edit, Restore and Show References which will help you find out what is going on.

  • Large insert op into table with indexes

    Hi,
Oracle 8.1.7.0. Empty table (after truncate) with two indexes. Need to insert about 40 billions records. What is better way to complete this task:
    1. Drop indexes, insert data then build indexes.
    2. Simply insert data into table.
    Thanks.

The only way to find out is to test... For example, I did a test on my single-cpu box with Oracle 9i. My test was to load all the rows from DBA_SOURCE (only 650k rows). I found that a single insert statement with bitmap indexes online ran faster than the total elapsed time for taking the indexes offline, inserting, and bringing the indexes back up...
With 40-billion rows, I presume you're using partitioned tables and enabling parrallel DML. Thus, your test will be much different than mine...
In past ETL projects I worked on, I found little difference in timing. I decided that I didn't want to drop indexes (it was ver8i) so I loaded the empty tables with indexes (and constraints) enabled...

  • Confused with HD-SD

    Hi,
All the sudden I am confused with my searches on this forum and would appreciate clarification
I am presently working on a HD project (from HD clips and HD stills).
If I want to get the best out of it, should I use only BluRay burning or would it be OK to use HD setting and burning with DVDSP on a "regular" DL disk (the compressed project will be over 7 GB ?
Should I understand that if I use HD setting with DLdisks only a HD compatible DVD player will be requested ?
will a Bluray player play the HD-DL fine ? or will a bluray disk be requested on bluray player ?
As you can see I just got really confused ...
    Thanks in advance
    Ivan

No doubt this stuff can be confusing. Hopefully I'll be able to clear a few things up.
You shot and edit an HD project in HD. Now you would like to create a DVD correct?
You have 2 options for DVD
    1. Standard Definition DVD authored in DVDSP.
    2. Blu-Ray DVD. You'll have to purchase a burner.
If you are on the newest FCS then you can author and burn a Blu-Ray DVD inside of Compressor. If you are on the previous version then you need another application to author and burn Blu-Ray like Toast or Adobe Encore.
You made mention of HD-DVD. That format is dead and won't play on anything other than your Mac or a couple specific HD-DVD players that haven't been in production for years. If you look in the DVDSP preferences you can choose which kind of DVD to burn SD-DVD or HD-DVD. Choose SD whenever you are using DVDSP.
Blu-Ray players play Blu-Ray DVD's and SD DVD's. It will not play HD-DVD.
How long is your project if the compressed (m2v) files are coming in at over 7GB?
