Connect as SYS remotely

Hi all
I have intalled Oracle Apps R12 on Windows server 2003. I want to connect as the SYS user from a remote machine. I can connect from the server as it uses OS authentication.
I have checked that the REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE=EXCLUSIVE in the init.ora file.
I have run orapwd and created the password file.
However, I still cannot connect remotely. I get an invalid username/password error.
I tried changing the password by logging in as SYSTEM, and typing:
alter user SYS identified by sys;
but I then get an ORA-28046: Password change for SYS disallowed. I think this is because I have a password file set up?
I need to find out what to do to connect remotely. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for all the replies. I had to drop and
recreate my instance, so I'm now working on a basic
R12 install. I have not created a new password file.
How do I check if one exists?It resides at the ORACLE_HOME/dbs/orapwORACLE_SID in a unix system and
ORACLE_HOME\database\orapwORACLE_SID.ora in a windows system.
How do I check if the SYS user account is locked?
Connect as system and verify at the DBA_USERS view:
SQL> select username, account_status from dba_users;
But even if a locked status is displayed you cat still access to the database. ( http://www.petefinnigan.com/ramblings/failed_login_attempts.htm )
SQL> show parameter remote_login_passwordfileThis shows SHARED.
I suggest you to change it to EXCLUSIVE.
Could you able to login as other users remotely?Yes, I can log on as APPS just fine.
Isn't your instance using an spfile instead?How would I check this?
SQL> ALTER SYSTEM SETREMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE=EXCLUSIVE
This gives the following error:
ORA-02095: specified initialization parameter cannot
be modified.
You should modify it with the SCOPE=SPFILE appended to the end of the command, at next restart value will be considered.
If necessary, i can modify the init.ora file.
I Suggest you to do it on your spfile.
