Connect RDP session to RDSH farm

Hi
I have a query on connecting RDP clients, e.g. thin clients, to an RDS server farm. I have 3 servers, two running the RDSH role, and 1 running all of the other roles, including gateway and rdweb. This works fine using RDweb to a published app or desktop
with no issues.
What I am wondering is, what is the best way of connecting an RDP client to the RDSH servers? I have seen people just use round robin DNS, so create a DNS record e.g. rdsfarm.domain.com and create one record for each RDSH server IP address. Then just
use that name to connect. This works, but I am wondering if there is a better way of doing it? With round robin, what happens when one server is down? Surely in that case DNS would still return the IP, and a client may try and connect to a server that was
offline. I don't have a hardware load balancer.
Thanks

Hi,
For Server 2012/2012 R2 it is intended for initial connections to be sent to the RD Connection Broker.  Also, it is intended that the client device, when making this initial connection to the broker, specify the collection that they are attempting
to connect to.  If you use RDWeb or RemoteApp and Desktop Connections feed the collection will automatically be included in the .rdp file that is used.
There is no place in the Remote Desktop Client UI to specify the target collection so if you want users to manually use that one solution is to download the .rdp file from RDWeb (using non-IE browser) and have them double-click it.  Another solution
is to set the default collection in the RDCB's registry, however, only one collection can be the default on each broker so it is not as useful for multiple collections.
With a single RD Connection Broker handling the initial connections one of your RDSH servers could be taken offline and new connections would be sent to the remaining RDSH server automatically.  If the RDCB itself goes down then new connection
attempts will fail.  To solve this it is recommended to have multiple RDCB servers configured as HA and using a shared SQL Server that is also configured as HA.
In a HA RDCB configuration you would preferably use NLB or hardware load balancer to balance the incoming connections across all of the RDCB servers and to detect if one is unavailable so that connections will not be directed to a down server.
Eliminating all single points of failure can get expensive and is significantly more complex so as with other things you should weigh the cost/benefit of each potential option.

  • Yosemite - Unable to access desktop when Remote Desktop app is connected to an RDP session

Since updating to Yosemite, after connecting full screen to any server you cannot get back to desktop as it seems the RDP session takes over the primary desktop and scrolling further left on the trackpad takes you to the Yosemite dashboard and you cannot
    get to the desktop.
This happens since the beta and is still an issue using the released version. When will this be fixed??

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Initially please update MRD MAC to v8.0.9. From description it seems that issue related to MAC side compatibility issue, so suggest you to contact apple customer care and clarify for further research.

  • My AppleTV won't connect to iTunes library after RDP session

I use a computer to hosts a few different services.  First, the computer acts as my media server.  iTunes has all of my media loaded up and my AppleTVs connect to it to stream media.  I also use this machine to host remote desktop sessions when I am away from home.  It appears that after an RDP session, I am unable to connect to the iTunes library using my AppleTVs.  I need to restart iTunes to get connectivity back.
Has anyone had any prior experience with this or have any suggestions for a fix?

    Lisa,
I have pretty much the same problem.  My Mac (7 days old) was working with the Apple TV just fine but tonight it will not do AirPlay nor will Apple TV play home share with the Mac either. Rebooting has no effect.  Same error you are getting.   When I try to play music (AirPlay) it is weak and intermittent at best and often simply does not play at all.
My ASUS laptop still works just fine as normal so Apple TV seems to be working just fine.   Now I am wondering why I spent so much money on the Mac.

  • Connecting iPhones/iPads in RDP Sessions

Greetings to the well of knowledge...
We recently converted our remote day hab facilities to remote desktop.  These facilities use iPads as an educational tool for our clients.
I discovered that while iPads are visible as a USB device in a remote desktop session, the driver fails when it tries to load.
I found a blog post that suggested enabling it as a RemoteFX device but this does seem to want to work.
Has anyone found a way to make iPads connect in RDP sessions?
    Regards,

  • Everyday around 3 to 4 PM all RDP sessions (around 50) getting disconnected

    Hi,
We have a Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server (workgroup) with SQL Server and C# application installed on the same terminal server.
Around 50 users access this terminal server. Since 15 days, everyday between 3PM to 4 PM, all the 50 user sessions gets dicsonnected at the same time and without anything done on the server, users can RDP again and work without any problems.
Verified event logs, terminal server logs, network, firewall, router etc. everything is working fine.
Only thing observed is, when RDP sessions gets disconnected, we see PING time out.
Any help to address this issue is appreciated.
    Raghuveer.

Hi this is the error, users are experiencing.
The session won't go into disconnect status, it stays ACTIVE only in the terminal server.
User session freezes for 5 to 15 seconds and the same RDP session continues to work without any manual intervention.
Is this network issue ? We ruled out network cable, routers problems if any in both client and server locations.

Any other suggestions is beneficial to us to fix this issue.

  • Terminal Server Session Management: why do we need a rdp session to take control of a terminal session?

    Hi all,
As title, I have this question: why do we need a rdp session to take remote control of a terminal server session?
I copied tsadmin and related file to a windows 8.1 pc and I'm able to see for every terminal server the list of users logged in, but the option "take control" is greyed out... why? is not possible to avoid this block?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello, Davide_ita.
Also tried to use RDSM to "Remote Control" user's sessions, but in this thread
    Remote Control
with Remote Desktop Services Manager - error Access is denied (Windows Server 2012 R2)
I get the recommendation to use RDP or Remote Assistance.
    The quote of
    TP []:
    Hi,
You cannot remote control a session on a 2012 R2 RDSH server using Remote Desktop Services Manager.  You need to use the RDP 8.1 mstsc.exe or the RDS gui in Server Manager on 2012 R2.  The command you would use with the RDP 8.1 client would be
    this:
    mstsc /shadow:<sessionid> /control

  • Local printer not showing up in RDP session

Is the user RDP using the RDP shortcut saved or creates a new connection everytime? if using the save connection, have you tried deleting it and re-creating it and checking the local resources option again. It should show up a redirected printer in RDP session.

    Hi Spicepros,
Situation: I've got a Windows 7 machine using RDP (let's call it Local) connected to a remote Windows 7 machine (Remote) which is hosted on an iMac in Boot Camp. It is a VPN connection. The printer, attached directly to the Local system is an HP LaserJet 400 M401 PCL6 connected via "USB001 Virtual Port".   But this printer does not show up on the remote Windows 7 machine.
The RDP connection has Local Resources turned on.
My colleague was able to print to her local printer until she replaced her printer. Now we can't make it work.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Warm regards,

  • RDP session freeze when resizing RDP window

    Hi
since last week friday a user reports a freezing RDP session when he resize the RDP window (to move the session window to another screen (PC has 3 screens connected)) of a  . The RDP target is a windows 2008 R2 RDS. Last Friday there were many MS updates
    installed on this PC.
I determined that the issue must be related to the PC, if user connects from another PC to RD-Server the problem doesn't exists. But i have no starting point to search for the reason. There are no warnings or errors in local eventlog. RDP connections to
    another RD-Server work fine.
Any hint where to start to solve this issue?

    Hi Carsten,
    Thanks for the reply.
It seems that the user has updated his RD client to RDP 8.0. If so, please note that Aero Glass is not supported.

  • RDP Session not showing redirected printers.

I have a very weird issue and can't seem to find a fix..
I have a user on a XP pc who connects to server via RDP.. all the settings are correct on his pc from what i can tell, but he can't see his local printers from the RDP session.
I know thing are fine on the server side are set correctly, because if we connect to the server from another XP pc in the office, using the same credentials.. he can see the printers in the RDP session, so we know it is not the server or his user profile,
but something to do with his PC specifically.
I have checked every setting that i can think of, and have searched the web, but I have had no success.
Any suggestions... short of reinstalling/upgrading the OS?

  • Flash video in RDP session

I have a problem, we have installed a VDI solution that uses Wyse V10L clients. The clients make an RDP connection to a virtual desktop and then is presented with a desktop environment.
From this RDP session we have made every attempt to get Flash based videos working, however the quality is very poor. We are experiencing delays in video and audio. We have installed all of the recommended TCX Multimedia packages, published by Wyse, even the Beta Re-distributer product and the quality has not been improved.
Can anyone advise how Adobe intend to combat the problem with running Flash video (youtube) via RDP?

    Hi Daniel,
Actually, there is a method to improve the display of Flash video in RDP sessions. Ericom Blaze is a software-based RDP acceleration AND compression product that improves video response over WAN and congested LANs. Besides delivering higher frame rates and reducing screen freezes and choppiness, Blaze accelerates RDP performance by up to 10-25 times higher, while significantly reducing network bandwidth consumption over low-bandwidth/high latency connections.
Ericom Blaze works with any standard RDP host, including VDI, Terminal Servers and remote physical machines.
You can read more about Blaze at:

  • Start Agent Process failed ! Failed to logon a RDP session.

So, trying to run a basic load test and I'm gettin this error "Start Agent Process failed ! Failed to logon a RDP session." I've enabled windows remote management on the agent box, installed the Oracle ATS Agent and have it running under my ID (agent box), setup the agent box in the "Systems" menu and successfully ran a connection test.
It's got to be something small, and unfortunately the included documentation is confusing. It keeps referencing a process for getting the Oracle Load Test Agent service, however it doesn't exist. It's not where the docs say the installer should be, and it's not an included option of the full installer.
Any help or guidance you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

  • Starting AnyConnect VPN through RDP Session

    Hi,
We have AnyConnect (ver 3.1.01065) configured on our ASA5520 boxes. VPN is working fine from the desktop, but I also need the ability to establish a VPN connection through a RDP connection (i.e. I'm using RDP to connect to a PC which has AnyConnect installed on, then trying to establish a VPN connection).
I've downloaded the Cisco VPN Profile Editor, chaned the <WindowsVPNEstablishment> option to "AllowRemoteUsers". Then applied the profile to the relevant Group Policy. Connected VPN from the PC (not through RDP), so that it downloads the new profile, and then disconnected again.
However, I still can't start VPN through an RDP connection. (Error is "VPN establishment capability from a remote desktop is disabled. A VPN connection will not be established".)
I've checked the XML file on the local PC to confirm the profile has been downloaded (and is has, and I can see the AllowRemoteUsers option.
This also happened with the previous version of AnyConnect (3.0.xxxx).
The PC's local routing tables look fine, and I can't see any conflicts that would cause the RDP session to drop.
Also - If I connect VPN, then RDP onto the PC, both the VPN and RDP sessions work fine.
    Any ideas would be appreciated!
    Thanks
    Tony

    Hi Portu,
Thanks for your reply, and thanks for confirming that it works with AC 3.1 and ASA 8.4 (I'm using the same ASA version).
It looks like the issue was that I created the profile with the standalone Cisco VPN Profile Editor, saved it, uploaded it to the ASA, I then added a new profile on the ASA (in the Cisco AnyConnect Profiles section), and specified the file... however, it appears that I over wrote the uploaded profile, as the WindowsVPNEstablishment was set to LocalUsers. Once I changed it to AllowRemoteUsers and applied the config, then deleted the profiles from the client, it worked!
Simple mistake - but easily done!!
    Thanks again
    Tony

  • VPN from an RDP Session

    Hello there,
We are trying to connect to an anyconnect instance through an RDP session.  We have no difficulty connecting, but once we do the RDP session is terminated.  This makes sense in theory, but is there any way to avoid this?  Enabling split-tunnel?
    Any insight would be appreciated.

In the routing world, and configuring a GRE tunnel - you would get the same issue if you route the GRE end points into the tunnel, the tunnel cannot form - chicken and the egg.
I will not ask why you are soing this, but you will need to split-tunnel the traffic you need to encrypt, not the IP connection that the RDP session is created with.
