Connected to the LAN not to the Internet

My iPod Touch connects to my WEP Linksys 2.4 GHz w/Speedboost wireless router, but I am not passing through to my Cable Modem and so cannot get on the internet. No router or DNS is assigned in the Wireless Networks on the iPod. I have DHCP selected and this works fine with my Windows-based computers. Resetting the Cable Modem and Router and used "Forget this Network"/reconnecting did no good. Any suggestions?

Having the same issue. I even turned off the MAC filtering on my wireless router as a possible fix, but it's still not letting me get to the modem. I entered the DNS manually, but no help. Anybody? Please???

  • Can connect to LAN wirelessly but can not connect to the internet.

    The problem:
I can connect to the wireless router and modem router wireless and can browse the router setting web pages etc without issue. However i can not browse the internet, send or receive mail etc.
    The setup:
A Belkin/iinet modem connects to the internet (ip 10.1.1.1), a DLink 565 then broadcasts the signal wirelessly (ip 10.1.1.100).
    What i have tried:
    Trusty old powercycle
I know the internet is working via the wifi as my ipod touch has full internet functionality through my wifi.
I have tried using ip address instead of urls to browse the web to no luck.
    I have tried deleting Libary\Preferences\SystemConfiguration\preferences.plist
I have tried reseting the DHCP lease.
The only other thing i know works (eventually) is if i constantly change locations back and forth and turn airport on and off repeatedly, eventually i will get on the wifi but that can take upwards of an hour.
The macbook also works fine via ethernet connected to the wireless router.

    Check these details:
    1. Right click your wireless connection
    2. Select STATUS
    3. Select the SUPPORT tab
    4. Select the DETAILS button
You should see a page with all sorts of network details.
Make sure that you see the following:
    1. You have an assigned IP address from your router
    2. You have a default gateway address -- typically the IP address of your router.
    3. A primary and alternate DNS server address (the router gets
these from your ISP and passes them along during DHCP connect
    processing.)
I found that step #3 did not happen reliably. Your mileage may vary. I set DNS server values into my router, based on what I got from my ISP, so that the connect-time data handoff was not required. A large part of my troubles went away.

  • Why do I see: iTunes Help is unavailable because your computer isn't connected to the Internet.  IE9 works fine but iTunes does not connect to the store.

I have tried 4 days to get iTunes 10.4 working on my Win7 x64 machine.  I purchased a new iPhone4 and after syncing it the first time, I can't connect to the iTunes store.
When I try to run iTunes Help, I get this message "iTunes Help is unavailable because your computer isn’t connected to the Internet."  However IE9 and Google Chrome run as always...... no connection problems.
I have already uninstalled IE9 x64 and iTunes 10.4 x64 and reinstalled but still the same.  I followed all the instructions I could find about firewalls, ports, SSL etc.

  • My time capsule will not connect to the internet.

Please help.  Just purchased a brand new 2T airport time capsule for my MacBook Pro and my other apple devices.  I have the ethernet cable plugged into the TC and into my Westell modem, in the correct jacks.  There is a green light on the connection spot for the WAN port.  The network appears in my network list, then I go to set it up and it tells me I have an error and a red 1 next to the network after it updated the software and tried to set itself up.
When I click on the red 1 it comes up with an amber mark next to set up over WAN.  I have no clue what to do to fix the problem.  I am providing a screenshot to show what I am seeing.
Any and all help is welcome.
I can connect to the internet through my old network on my modem, but not through the Airport TC.
    Thanks

Factory reset the TC and start again.
Your name is not valid.. it is over the number of characters allowed.. although the stupid airport utility won't stop you.
Use names for the TC and wireless that are short, 2-20 characters, no spaces and no apostrophe.. pure alphanumeric.
When you say it is plugged in with correct jacks.. does that mean WAN port on the TC to LAN port on the router??
The TC should also be in bridge mode.. so when you redo the setup.. make sure you have off bridged mode for the network.. but you create a wireless network with the new name or same name as the existing wireless network.

  • ITunes could not contact the iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet...???

    Ok I’m completely lost here....
I’m running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (Build 2600), I updated iTunes to 11.0.2.25 and some other updates for windows last night on my laptop. I try connecting to download the iOS 6.1.2 update for my iPhone 4 and my iPhone 5 via iTunes. I am getting this message for both "iTunes could not contact the iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet. Make sure your internet connection is active and try again." Everything was fine with connecting prior to running these updates because I downloaded the 6.1 update with no problems when it came out.
What I have done so far with which has made no difference:
    Checked my internet connection
    Changed my internet connection
Signed out of iTunes and then signed back in
Ran diagnostics via iTunes, comes back with: Network interfaces verified- Internet connection failed- Secure link to iTunes store verified

    Rebooted
Checked the parental controls in iTunes
    Start>control panel>internet options>connections tab> lan settings> selected the "automatically detect settings"
    Deleted iTunes and reinstalled iTunes
When I would "ping gs.apple.com" it would come back with "request timed out" no matter what internet connection I was on, so I went into the hosts file  start>my computer>(C:)>WINDOWS>system32>drivers>ect>HOSTS and added  "#     127.0.0.1     gs.apple.com". Now it will ping gs.apple.com just fine but still comes up with the "iTunes could not contact the iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet" message in iTunes when i try to download the update.
If anyone can come up with any ideas that I haven’t tried, please let me know. This is keeping me back from updating both of my phones along with if anything should ever happen to them; restores as well.

im computer is connected i can go to the apple store through itunes but when i plug my phone in i keep getting that alert... i plugged my phone in to update it after the apple loaded the itunes icon and a usb showed up.

  • "itunes could not contact the ipod software update server because you are not connected to the internet" Help?

Hello all, new to the forums.
I've been recieving the error message "itunes could not contact the ipod software update server because you are not connected to the internet". This problem didn't occur at all for the past 2 years of using itunes.
I've already scanned through numerous websites and forums for help, but none of them worked.
This  set of instructions resulted in no change to any of the problems, though iTunes lists that as the supposed solution.
    # Open Internet Options from control panel.
    # Click the Connections tab.
    # Click the LAN Settings button.
    # Select the Automatically detect settings checkbox.
Others include installing IE7, which that didn't work either.
    Can anyone help?

  • IBook not connecting to the Internet

I have a weird problem with my iBook G4. I cannot get access to the Internet at all. I connect using a TimeCapsule. In total I do have 3 Macs, 2 of them connect just fine just my old iBook gives me headaches. It doesn't acquire a correct IP address either. The IP address it gets is something like 169.254.184.21 where as the other Macs get 10.0.1.198. I do connect over Wifi. The Wifi symbol in the menu bar gets all bars on the iBook and the TimeCapsule does show 4 connected clients ( I do guess my iPhone is one of them).LAN doesn't solve the problem. Exact same situation. The Mac says it has a self assigned IP address. It looks like it doesn't get the IP address from the TimeCapsule. The iBook runs 10.5.5. I do use DHCP.
The TimeCapsule does connect to a Cable Modem (not directly - I do use LAN over Powerlane to get from downstairs to upstairs where my TimeCapsule is sitting) I have this setup now for about a year and it used to work fine. Its only lately that my iBook doesn't connect to the internet. I don't know what changed. It used to connect just fine. I had it on the road and used it with other WiFi clients some time ago, not sure if that introduced the problem.
I did restart both the TimeCapsule and the Cable Modem and I already reset the PMU on the iBook.
So - two Macbook Pros and one iPhone connect just fine to the Internet using this TimeCapsule. It does show 4 connected clients and I do get all the bars in the menu bar on the iBook.
Please help. I have no idea what to do or where to look for the problem. I hope someone does have an idea.
Thanks a lot for your support
    Kind regards
    Andreas

The IP address starting with 169 indicates that the iBook was not able to communicate properly with the DHCP server on the Time Capsule.
Did you by any chance enable MAC address filtering on the Time Capsule? If so, disable it.

  • IMac connects to the Internet, but software will not.

I am operating on Leopard 10.5.1 - my computer connects successfully via Airport wireless to the internet, but Safari, iTunes and Mail all are unable to connect. I have read throu previous discussions and done the following: deleted and recreated airport listing in network prefences, deleted system configuration preferences, rebooted router and restarted computer several times, spoken with Verizon tech at great length while working through their diagnostic process, and none of these efforts have been succsessful.
Any additional help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

Actually Airport>Ethernet ID & Ethernet>Ethernet ID will be different.
The one FIOS router I'm looking at from Verizon does support Access control, not sure if you have that set on or or not.

  • I have CS 6 installed on a Win 7 OS machine. I can not connect to the internet to get updates from within the program. How do I fix this?

I have CS 6 installed on a Win 7 OS machine. I can not connect to the internet to get updates from within the program. How do I fix this?

IP routing doesn't work the way many folks might initially think it does; functional IP routing requires manual configuration and the establishment of static routes and default routes specific to the local network configurations, and it's very easy to get it wrong, or to get the default route swapped. Multiple NIC boxes don't magically work, either. (Been there, done that, wondered what happened to my network when the paths got reordered or my route settings were messed up, etc.)
Routing configuration errors can be quite subtle, too. (Again, voice of experience. Ever had a thousand-seat office LAN accidentally routing through your desktop? As the, um, unnamed guilty party discovered, getting into that configuration was subtle. Seeing the performance crater on the fellow's box and on the LAN was obvious.)
Knowing how IP routing works is a prerequisite to getting this configuration to work; there's manual configuration required. Clearly something has gone weird here.
What to do? Read up on IP routing. I'll again suggest the threads and the manual mentioned earlier.
And in general, I prefer to avoid using my comparatively expensive Mac boxes as sub-optimal IP routers or as firewall boxes. General-purpose operating systems and generic x86 boxes are going to be inherently poor IP routers. Dedicated routers (or embedded or surplus x86 boxes with routing software loaded) offload the Mac boxes here, and are also typically easier to configure manage. And "real" IP routers can have hardware specific to efficiently routing packets. Use of an outboard firewall or firewall-router box also greatly simplifies gateway routing, too; it's a configuration that many folks and many businesses tend to use.

What is the Ip of your DSL modem? is this the same as your WRT54GS perhaps?
have you setup a proxy cache in your web browsers LAn settings perhaps?
any antivirus/web scanning or firewall utils that are blocking it?

Hi, I have found this answer in a post and it has just worked for me.
    Here is the solution:
    1) Open Internet Explorer.
    2) Go to Tools->Internet Options.
    3) Go the the Connections tab.
    4) Click on Lan Settings.
    5) Check the box that says "Automatically detect settings."
    6) Apply/OK out and close IE.
    7) Go back to iTunes and try it again. You may have to restart the program.

    Kirk,
One correction, you can access the same Internet Options from the Control Panel without opening Internet Explorer. These are the global internet/proxy settings for the computer.
Are you using a router by any chance? If so which model?
I found the following on another thread and it worked
    for me.
    Problem solved:
    1.) Open Internet Explorer (6.x or 7.0 Beta 3)
2.) Click on Tools -> Internet Options
3.) Click on the Connections Tab
4.) Click on the LAN Settings button
    5.) Check Automatically Detect Settings
6.) Click on OK -> OK
    7.) Reload iTunes
    8.) Update
    Thanks!!!

  • My laptop compaq presario will not connect to the Internet anymore after buying airport extreme. Why? It detects the network, accepts my password, but will not connect to Internet.

My laptop compaq presario will not connect to the Internet anymore after buying airport extreme. Why? It detects the network, accepts my password, but will not connect to Internet. I tried to repair connection, tried to reboot modem several times, I even updated my computer. Nothing. All it says is that it does not detect modem. Why?

Welcome to the support community group.
First, are you sure that your AirPort Extreme has been configured correctly and is properly connected to your modem?
Begin by telling us how you have things connected and if the Airport Extreme is replacing a previously owned router or is this an entirely new installation?
First be sure that your modem is working and properly connects you to the internet using an ethernet cable directly connected to your laptop.  Once you're sure that's working, reset the AirPort to factory defaults by disconnecting it from power and pressing and holding in the small reset button on the back  for 15 - 20 seconds while you reconnect it to power.  Then turn everything off for 5 minutes. Connect the Airport to your modem with and ethernet cable to the Airport WAN port on the back (check the user guide to make sure you connect the cable to the correct port) then connect a second ethernet cable between the laptop and one of the LAN ports on the AirPort Extreme.
Then power up the modem first, wait 5 minutes and then power up the Airport, wait 5 minutes and finally power up your laptop.
Then run the airport configuration utility from your laptop.  Since you're not using an Apple computer, be sure that all of your firewall, and virus blocking and checking software is disabled before you run the airport configuration utility.  Once you run the utility, it should detect your AirPort and allow you to use the configuration wizard to set things up.
Check back if you're still having problems.
