Connecting a Strat to the harddrive

After getting a great reply from a gent in Germany and then a little research (Mac help) I was able to solve (hopefully) the amp to harddrive dilema. USB to 1/4" jack cable, perhaps?
This opens up other questions such as:
1. Would I be better off just plugging the guitar straight into the harddrive, using the GBand special guitar effects, and using headphones to monitor?
2. If I use the amp's headphone slot and connect to the harddrive's mic slot from it, will I still have to use the headphones slot on the harddrive to monitor?
Are a good set of headphones in my future. ggg
Thanks for any advise.

I don't know about a G4 - I have a G5 Imac (1st generation) and I can plug my Les Paul into my sound in on the back of my Imac using a simple 1/4" -> 1/8" mini adapter without any interface and it sounds great in Garageband. I bought a small pre-amp but it wasn't needed - I also had a Fastrack but didn't need it (so I traded both for some foot pedals I wanted).
Just a simple guitar cable from my Paul to my Imac with an adapter to 1/8" mini and it works great! If the levels are too low for ya - try an Audio Buddy - it has seperate gain controls for boosting the signal
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/MAudio-Audio-Buddy?sku=701104
I paid $49 on sale at the Guitar Center here in Jacksonville a few months ago - traded it for a Tubescreamer pedal as it really wasn't even needed. The USB Fastrack was a total piece of junk in my opinion and I traded it for a Boss DS-1 Distortion pedal... I rock out like mad using Garageband, Amplitube 2, Guitar Rig 2, Logic Express, etc - and NO INTERFACE IS BEING USED nor is it needed on my stuff.

  • Can't find the harddrive connected to AirPort Extreme from NETGEAR EVA9100

    Hey all,
Like the subject sais... I have a setup in my appartment where I have a USB Harddrive connected to my AirPort Extreme. I put my media on that disk, and now I want to access these files from my new NETGEAR EVA9100 media streamer, but for some reason it can't find the harddrive in my network.. My MBP has no problems finding it, nor have any other computers. I have tried numerous ways of sharing the disk through the airport software, but for some reason it just won't work.
Does anyone have an idea what I need to do..?

If the hard disk shows up when it is connected directly to the base station, then I would try a different powered hub.
Otherwise, the hard disk drive may not be compatible, or perhaps it is incorrectly formatted as NTFS.

Hard Drive:  The Hard Drive is on my camera (Sony Handycam)
Just needed some info on what is going on with your particular system.
Knowing the exact camera model will also assist us.
If this camera is standard AVCHD you should be able to connect with USB to Mac with FCE open and use Log and Transfer without all the fiddling around converting etc.
What FCE does during ingest is convert files to AIC. (Apple Intermediate Codec)
FCE cannot read the individual files in the BDMV folder, that's why all the converting is required when you use that method.
BTW: regards formatting drives/cards/memory on cameras; it is wise to use the actual device to format rather than a computer. This is a prime cause of read/write goof ups with solid state media. This applies to still or video cameras.
Keeping the COMPLETE card/memory structure in tact is vital for successful transfers.

  • Issues connecting to Iomega StorCenter network harddrive with Mac OS 10.4.x

I am having difficulties connecting to an Iomega StorCenter harddrive under Mac OS X 10.4.10:
The drive is visible within the network but whenever I click the "Connect..."-button the mouse pointer changes to the spinning beach ball and I have to restart the Finder to continue working.
Those Iomega StorCenter drives use Windows shares, so Mac OS X tries to connect with Samba i presume. Under Mac OS 10.3.x all works well, I can establish a connection and moves files to and from the shares but whenever I try to connect from Mac OS X 10.4.x the computer hangs as described above.
I have checked the workgroup settings and noticed that Mac and harddrive are not in the same workgroup. However this should not be a problem as you can connect under Mac OS X 10.3.x and while connecting, you can enter the workgroup of the target drive or server in question.
Iomega has come up with a solution which you can find here:
    https://iomega-na-en.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/iomegana_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=18423&pcreated=1142005136
I want to find a more convenient way, though – a solution that is acceptable for people who are not used to command line interfaces.
    Any ideas?
What is the cause for the connection problem anyway?
It seems that many are having issues regarding Mac OS X 10.4.x and Samba...

This problem only appeared after 10.4 was installed, so it's not really a quark problem. I have 1 10.3.9 Mac on the network and it does not have any of these problems.
This problem, I belive, was supposed to be fixed in 10.4.7 but it's made no difference, using SMB or AFP doesn't seem to resolve the issue either.
Permissions are locked down on the network here so I cannot give the Everyone group modify rights.

  • IMac G5 2Ghz won't do a cold startup off the harddrive, but will boot off of CD and then on a restart.

So this is what my iMac has been doing for the past couple of weeks.  When I do a normal startup, the iMac turns on and goes to the gray screen.  After a few minutes longer then it's supposed to boot up, the fans in the iMac run at full speed and the iMac won't go any further on the boot.  I then have to do a hard shut down (I miss the restart button).  I now keep the System Disk in the machine because I then have to start the iMac back up, hold down the C key until the iMac goes through the booting process off the disk.  I can usually then quit off the Disk and do a restart.  And then usually the iMac will boot normally off the harddrive.  Neither Disk Utility nor Disk Warrior 4.1 have found anything wrong when I do the diagnostics.  Any ideas?  I aleady had the power supply replaced within a couple of weeks of getting the machine, so I'm sure it's not that.  Many thanks.

You've got a very old (2005), second hand Mac which you indicated is wearing out (e.g. screen starting to go) plus second hand DVD boot disks that sound like they are incompatible. (You said you "copied the DVD from work" -- that does not sound like a likely to succeed scenario; also, running Disk Utility from an incompatible boot DVD is like playing with fire.) If they are incompatible, you will NEVER have success in booting from them, and thus might never be able to resolve your hard drive issues, which indicate either hardware broken or a faulty OS install.
The only way to sort this out is to get a set of RETAIL (generic, not machine-specific) 10.5 DVD boot disks (or disk) in good shape. This will likely cost $150 or even more. You may still find you have an unusable computer, but it's hard to tell at this point. If you can boot from the CORRECT DVD, you will then either be able to archive or erase and install a new 10.5 OS, or you may discover hardware problems remain that make the machine unusable.
This is probably not what you want to hear, but if I were you I would take the mahcine to a shop where someone can take the hard drive out and put it into a USB or firewire enclosure. Then you should purchase the best Mac you can afford WITH its original DVD set and hopefully you can recover your files from that drive when you connect it.  I think this 7-yr old Mac will never be a reliable device for you in the future.
If you really want to try a Hail Mary, at this point I can only suggest:
    (1) Replace the PRAM battery. This should cost less than $10. (I doubt this will solve your issues, but it might)
    (2) Read this article  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417 and try booting into Safe Mode. If that does not help, try booting into single user mode and run the "fsck -fy" command as explained in the above article.
Any serious hardware problem will probably cost more to repair than getting a new Mac and finding the parts will be a real hurdle. Plus they'll just be old, used parts not likely to last very long anyway.
Sorry you're experiencing this. I have a 2005 G5 2 GHz iMac with 10.5 now and it's somehow running just fine, but I bought it new and have been very careful about keeping it clean and up to date. These can be fun machines, these iMacs, and they're historical as well, but a 7-yr old Mac can go at any time. I keep it backed up to both Time Machine and cloned to a separate external drive just in case. I used to have a 2001 iMac which stopped working in 2009 after 8 good years, and I even had a 1994 PowerMac 7100/66 which I recycled in 2005 even though it was still working!

  • Can I move the Itunes Lib to the harddrive in my airport?

I am running out of space on the harddrive in my mac book pro . I have 400 gigs of availible space on the drive in my time capsule.
Can I move my entire Itunes libraray to that drive? Will there be any performance impact ?
If I do can my laptop access it froma remote location via the net ( wifi)?
    Will

You can move it, but I have seen it advised not to use a Time Capsule backup drive for general file storage too.  For one, what happens when the Time Capsue drive fails?  You have no backup for your library.
Others have mentioned performance loss and you may want to move just media so the library file is still on the internal drive for faster access.
Do you watch your movies and tv shows day after day?  If not, consider buying an external hard drive for archiving.  You can even set up a separate iTunes library for movies.  Just connect the drive when it is movie time.
Time Capsule is on your local network, not the full Internet.  How remote is remote?

  • I can no longer log into my ichat linked to my gmail.  right after opening up ichat, receive the following message:  lost connection with jabber.  the server has unexpectedly disconnected.

i can no longer log into my ichat linked to my gmail.  right after opening up ichat, receive the following message:  lost connection with jabber.  the server has unexpectedly disconnected.  how to troubleshoot?  thanks.

    Hi,
There can be many reasons why the Login is "up the creek".
Any break in the network at your end whilst logged in will cause  an issue.
A sort of discrepancy between what iChat thinks the state should be and what the server thinks.
If they don't agree the server will refuse to accept.
A Crash at the server end which does not log you out properly will also do it.
Any file at any time can be come corrupted.
Luckily with the iChat .plists they are recreated if removed with an iChat Restart.
If it were AIM you can also get your Account Suspended  and this will not log you in.
(It tends to happen from Chat rooms where people notify AIM about bad behaviour (as they see it) and you have to apply to get Un-suspended).
Most of the big IM services use multiple servers.
Sometimes these go out of Sync.
In the case of AIM this happens when they remove Old unused Screen Names from people's Buddy List prior to making them available for re-registration.  I am not sure if this happens at Google.
You seem to be talking about an account that has worked at Work and having new computer at home.
As I mentioned the Priority thing you have not said that it has coincided with the new computer logging in  (this will kick the work Computer out of Google whether you are logged in  on the Web Mail page or in iChat)
IN addition to that iChat stays partially logged in for Off Line IMs
This is done in the background by a support app called iChatAgent
If your Computer is ON but ichat is not started people can still send you Messages.
Instead of saving these on the server until you login iChat will start up.
Depending if the home Mac is effecting the Work Login it may be holding sway over your Login.
Using your girlfriend's login may have booted her Off Line where she normally uses the name/login.
The AIM Side can be specifically set to allow Multiple Logins and therefore NOT allow them.  If this happens you get a warning and messages to do something about it.
You do not get these in any Jabber or Google Login as the Priority setting is supposed to take care of it.
If the Login works at the Web Mail Login and on one computer then the .plist on the work computer is the most likely issue.
There is a small chance that a Corrupt Buddy Pic (Home Folder/Library/Caches/com.apple.iChat/Pictures) may be the cause.
Set this folder to icon view and also use the Finder's View Menu > Show View Options and select icon view.
This should show all pics as their icon.
    Check that all display properly.
At this point I would try a COMBO version update install of the last Update you did over what you have.
This often corrects hard to trace things

  • Data Connection Library used in the workbook is not in a trusted location.

I got a requirement to display excel charts with data source as SharePoint list.
Here are the steps which I am following:
Exported SharePoint list to excel sheet and exported connection file to local drive.
    Uploaded to data connection library.
Created a new excel file and consumed data from connection file which was stored in data connection library.
Published the excel sheet to document library with publish options as Chart and Pivot Table.
Able to see Excel Chart and Pivot table from the browser.
Getting Error when I try to refresh the excel sheet to get updated data from SharePoint list.
I added data connection library details to Trusted Data Connection & Trusted File locations still I am getting error. That .odc file is not in Trusted Location.
"The Data Connection File used in the workbook is not in a trusted location. The following connections
    failed to refresh:"
Please help me on this and suggest if there is any other approach to fulfill this requirement.

    Hi Pratik,
    Thanks for your input.
I created a new document library and data connection library and tried the steps mentioned below:
    Configuration
Enable Claims to Windows Token Service
The first step, check the status of the Claims to Windows Token Service on SharePoint.
Use the following instructions to check and enable the Claims to Windows Token Service.
In Central Administration, in System Settings, click Manage services on server.
Select Claims to Windows Token Service, and then click Start.
Verify the service is also running in the Services console:
    In Administrative Tools, click Services.
Start the Claims to Windows Token Service if it is not running.
Create a New Secure Store Application
Create a New Secure Store Target Application and set the credential.
This credential will be used by SharePoint to access the database. The account set into this step need to have access to the database or SSAS cube/tabular databases.
Use the following instructions to create and set credential.
In Central Administration, in Application Management, click Manage service applications.
Click Secure Store Services, and then click New.
    Target Application Settings:
    Tagert Application ID: ExcelServicesSSS
    Display Name: Excel
    Service Secure Store App
    Contact e-mail: [email protected]
    Target Application Type: Individual
    Target Application Page URL: None
    Click Next.
    Click Next again.
    Target Application Administrators: contoso\administrator
(Type the user account that will administrate the Secure Store Application.
    Click OK.
Select Target Application ID ExcelServicesSSS, and then click Set Credential.
Type Credential Owner, Windows User Name and Password.
    Configure Excel Services
Add the Application Id created in the previous step to the Excel Services and configure the Trusted Data Connection Library.
Use the following instructions to add the Application ID.
In Central Administration, in Application Management, click Manage service applications.
Click Excel Services Application, and then click Global Settings.
On External Data, Application ID type ExcelServicesSSS.
    Click OK.
    Click Trusted Data Connection Libraries.
Click Add Trusted Data Connection Library.
    Address: http://<sharepoint_site>/ (Enter
    the Data Connection Address)
    Click OK.
But no luck in resolving the issue. Anyhelp would be really thankful.
Please clarify whether can we pull data from sharepoint list to excel services to display charts?
    Regards,

  • How do I connect my Centro to the Internet via bluetooth over PC's Internet? Where is Centro's PPP Connection Type? How do I setup Login Script for bluetooth connection?

I am trying to set up bluetooth on the Centro to connect to the internet via my PC's internet.
    HotSync over bluetooth works successfully.
Computer specs: Toshiba P205-S6277; Bluetooth Stack v5.10.04 (currently using); Bluetooth Monitor v3.01 (to use Vista's built-in bluetooth)
I think I have narrowed my problem down to 3 things.
    (1) Finding Network Access properties (to allow connected devices to access the internet)
    (2) Finding Centro's Network Connection Type: PPP
    (3) Finding the correct Login Script to use
for (1) I think I've looked everywhere; found nothing on Network Access.
Checked control panel: only Bluetooth Local COM
Right-clicked bluetooth icon > Settings: File transfer, PAN Networking, PAN DHCP server, AV controls. Other bluetooth settings are for file transfer or object push. I don't see anything like this.
I'm stumped on (2). It seems as if palm removed this option under Centro's Advanced network settings .
Nearly all the forums that I read says to choose Connection Type: PPP.
    (3) Found 2 scripts that seemed would work. I don't know how it exactly works but it sounds workable.
    First script:
    Send: CLIENT
    Send: CLIENT
    Wait for: CLIENTSERVER
    End:
    Script 1 Connect Log:
    =======================================
    Connect Log
    S: client
    S: client
    R:
    Err: 0x121F   <<<netErrUserCancel b/c I canceled it.
    Not connected
    ========================================
I canceled it because the process would stay on "Signing In" then it automatically "Canceled" itself.
    Second script:
    Send CR:
    Delay: 1
    Send: CLIENT
    Wait For: CLIENTSERVER
    End
**UPDATE** I found on this forum (Reply # 3689) that the script is needed only if you are using Palm OS 4 or under. Centro uses Palm OS 5.49121. Can anyone support this?
Even without the script it has problems "Signing In".
I'm currently reading this site and trying out its decribed methods. I will update this thread when I get the results.
I'm using the Centro. And If anyone's been able to successfully connect to the internet on the Centro via a bluetooth connection to the PC WITHOUT 3rd party applications, please share.  If not, please share any ideas.
    Thanks!

I've been going at this for days, and have probably exhausted all the proposed solutions on the first 3 pages of various google searches. I'm getting the feeling that Vista users are pretty much SOL for the time being.
For the record, I just tried out a few of the solutions (mRouter & SoftickPPP) on XP and they work perfectly.

  • How to connect my macbook to the Airport with the same IP?

Hi to everybody! Most of the times I want to use amule it is firewalled because the IP changes everytime I connect my macboook to the Airport express: 10.0.1.2 or 10.0.1.3 and so on. Is there a way to say that I want my macbook to be always connected with the same IP? Since I couldn't do this I started to map the amule ports (TCP and UDP) for each IP, but I realised that I can't use the same ports (let's say TCP 4662 and UDP 4672) for different IPs. Why is that?
    Thanks in advance!

I believe that an AirPort Express can be configured to do that. Launch AirPort Utility, enter "manual setup" mode, select the Internet panel, then the DHCP tab. There should be a section of the screen at the bottom labeled "DHCP Reservations". Click in the "plus" sign at the bottom of that section and fill in the details that you want.

You have to tell the router to send messages addressed to a certain port to a specific IP address, otherwise it wouldn't know how to route the messages. It would be like trying to assign a phone number to two different phone line circuits.
