Connecting an external digital trigger to a DAQPad 6015

Hi. Im trying to externally trigger a series of concentration probes that I have connected through the DAQPad 6015 and on to LabView.
I do not have any external ports on my DAQ device for receiving a trigger signal and so I am trying to connect it through the screw ports that are available.
However, I have never done anything like this before and have come a little unstuck.
I just want the probes to start acquiring information once they receive a 5V rising edge signal from an external piston.
Any help that you could give me regarding connecting the system up, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Nial

Hi Neil,
You need to setup triggering in your LabVIEW application and then use the trigger line you have setup in your application to wire in the trigger signal. We usually use PFI0, Attached is an example program that reads in 5 voltages from a DAQpad-6015 on Dev4 and then triggers on PFI0 on a rising digital edge.
To find the pinout of the 6015, you need to go to MAX >> Devices and interfaces >> NI-DAQmx >> DAQpad 6015
Right-click select Device Pinouts.
Hope this helps

  • Difference if connecting to external digital receicer via mono to RCA cable and coaxial ca

Please tell the difference if connecting from Audigy 2 ZS to external digital receicer via (/8 inch) mono to RCA cable and coaxial cable (from front panel with SPDIF out/in).
Where can i get this /8 inch mono to RCA cable? I dont find it listed in the accessories of creative website.
    Thanks

There is absolutely no difference as far as sound quality goes, as both are digital connections. You can buy a minijack-to-RCA cable at radio shack or any similar store. Just ask for a cable to connect an iPod to a home stereo; this is the same adaptor that you need.

  • 6221 pulse generation using external digital trigger

Hi there: I am trying to do something very basic, but cannot figure out how to do it. I have an NI 6221 USB I/O device.  I want to program it to generate a digital output 100ms after receiving a digital input. I am trying to create a task to do this using NI Max, but all of the options on the trigger source menu are greyed out. There is no way to specify an external hardware trigger.  Do I have to program this functionality using DAQmx in the code?

I found the solution to this question in Gen Dig Pulse-Dig Start.vi from the NI example finder. The answer is that you do need to configure the input trigger programmaticaly using the DAQmx functions. See example code for more details.

  • How to sync. 50Hz sample rate with 5Hz external digital trigger signal?

    Hello there,
I want to sample an analog input at 50Hz, where I further want to use
the 5Hz PPS signal of a GPS receiver as an external trigger/clock
signal for the NI DAQ USB-6008 device. However, I do not want to read
10 samples every 200ms (= 50Hz avg. sample rate), but I want to read 1
    sample every 20ms, i.e. with "real" 50Hz.
The "natural" way, it seems would be to use a task that waits for a
rising edge on the ext. trigger input, then reads 10 samples, then
waits for the next trigger edge, and so on.
However, it seems that with this approach I cannot read the data from
the DAQ with real 50Hz, further it seems that every 10 samples the task
needs to be restarted, which takes longer than the 20ms (corresponding
to the 50Hz target sample rate).
I hope the problem description is clear enough....
Thank you in advance for any advice.
    Regards,
    Oliver

You have to use the counter together with the analog input to achive this. You could configure the counter to generate 10 pulses with 50 Hz whenever the counter sees a rising edge on the inpput of the counter. The output of the counter would be used as the external clock for the analog input.

  • How do I connect my external hard drive with all of my digital media to my Apple TV network and make it accessable 24/7?

How do I connect my external hard drive with all of my digital media to my Apple TV network and make it accessable 24/7?  I have the latest Apple TV, ipads, iPhones as well as a solid HP Windows machine all on my home network.  Is there a way that I can connect my hard drive to my receiver or Apple TV directly so that the digital media is available on my network 24/7 rather than have it connected to my computer and available through Home Share which never works anyway??

  • How to use an external start button for 6024E w/ sc-2345, I would like it to function like a start button in LabView but I don't know how to connect the external button to the sc-2345's connector block

I am confused as to how to connect my external start botton. I would like it to function like a start button on a front panel of a VI. I would like to use the +5V on pin 14 but I really don't know where to go from here. Any guidence for a novice would be most appreciated.

    phod,
This is the LabVIEW Real-Time forum, so I suggest that in the future that you post this type of question to the Multifunction DAQ forum.
For the simplest solution you will have to connect your button to a digital line of your board, consult the sc-2345 user manual for a diagram of where these lines are exposed. You will have to connect your start button in series with a line that is high, such as your 5V pin or another digital line. Then connect this to a digital line that will be your start trigger.
Your program can poll the digital line that is connected to your button in a while loop and when it goes high, it lets the rest of the program execute. For the programming, I suggest you take a look at the shipping examples that come with LabVIEW. If yo
u have LabVIEW 7.0 go to Help>>Find Examples. Open Hardware Input Output>>Traditional DAQ>>Digital Input and Output>>E Series for some examples of digital I/O programming with E-series boards.
    Hope that gets you started.

  • Can i connect an external signal generator to the NI7344 to...

Can i connect an external signal generator to the NI7344 to use its
PID characteristics to precisely control the output
I am using the flex motion board (NI7344) to control the force output
of a linear motor. Using contouring and buffer operations i have
successfully created a system which can output a controlled force
which sinusoidal in form. I can achieve a reasonable output for
waveforms of 10Hz, the use of higher frequencies is limited by the
contouring operation ( a frequency of 10 Hz means i can only describe
one period of a sine wave with 10 points ( 10ms between each point =
10Hz). Can i therfore connect an external anologue wave generator to
the NI7344 use and use its PID characteristics to output wave
    forms of
higher frequency ??? .....could i output an anolgue wave form from an
E-series DAQ via the RTSI cable to the NI7344 and control this ???.any
ideas or advice would be much appreciated.

    Duncan,
You can use a DAQ card to output an analog waveform, but it will be a software call not part of an onboard program. RTSI can be used to pass clocks and trigger signals, so if you want to route a clock signal to do the control you could.

  • Time Capsule disconnects when I connect my external hard drive

All my software is up to date, but when I connect my Western Digital external hard drive to the Time Capsule's USB port, the Time Capsule disconnects from the internet, my PC (which is connected via ethernet), and my MacBook Pro (via wi-fi). Sometimes it'll work okay for a few hours and then just goes incommunicado later in the day. If I remove the external hard drive from the USB port and restart, I have no problems. But once I plug it back in, it happens all over again. What's going on here?
Message was edited by: Ed Rocker

That'll work as well, just not as convenient when you are on the go. You may want to pick one of these up as well. (not sure which plug you need, but there are a bunch of different ones on ebay).

  • Digital trigger mac OSX

    Hi everybody
I am running a machine mac OSX snow leopard with Labview 2011. The acquisition card is a PCIe-6259 with a connection box SCB-68. I would like to perform the acquisition of an analog signal according to a digital trigger (PFI0 or PFI1). I have created this simple VI that unfortunately does not work on my machine. The VI exits immeditely without doing anything and I do not have even an error. If I switch to analog trigger it works nicely but it is slower than I need. If I run the same VI on a windows machine it works fine. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you very much for all the tips

I do not have any hardware so I cannot test. Try putting an error indicator (or probe) on the error wire coming from the Start Trigger VI to be sure that you are not getting an error. I keep automatic error handling turned off, so I am not sure, but I think that wiring the error out terminals changes the way it works.  Put an error indicator at the end of the chain also.

  • Audigy 2 ZS and external digital mixer and digital cd pla

    Guru's,
I've got a problem getting a sound from my Audigy 2 ZS card in combination with an external digital mixer and a digital cd player. One channel of the mixer receives data from the PC (Audigy 2 ZS) and one channel receives data from the CD player. The mixer is connected to a dolby surround system- dvd player that connected to the speakers. When I try the digital out I don't get any sound, when I use one of the analog ports I do get a sound. What is here the ideal set-up and why can't I use the digital out ?

Do you mean, you do not get digital out from Audigy?
If yes, then have you set Audigy for digital output?
See Audigy User's Guide for options (if you don't have one, you can download it herefrom.

  • Digital trigger by PF1 of 5133

    1. May I know how to program 5133 trigger by PF1 in ni-scope
    2. As learned, the PF1 is digital trigger. Will it trigger when voltage change from 0 to 3V only, or when the voltage is 3V, it will keep triggerring all the time. If it is in the second case, is it true the next trigger will start as soon as the 1st data is fetched. Or will it wait the first data to be fetched or just overwrite again and again.
    3. I've 2x5133, the 2 PF1 will connect together, may I kow in software how to gurantee to fetch the data triggered at same time, how to make the program.
    Thanks

I tried to use the attached program, but got error as the attached screenshot.
The most challenge is how to fetch the same time triggered data.
    Thanks.

  • Connect a external DAC

    Hi!
I have an Airport Express Gen 2. I´ve connected to my Reciver (Onkyo) with toslink cable and it works fine!
To get even better soundquality I have tryed to connect an external DAC (TEAC)... The USB input sounds good,
but the optical(TosLink) is not so good... If I connect my Mac Book Pro via Toslink it sonds great! If I connect my
Airport Express via Toslink the music have a variation of volyme??? every 10 second. And agin not connced to my reciver.
I will contact TEAC as well
    Rightrider

If your goal is to connect the audio source to your Onkyo receiver via a digital optical connection, then using either the internal DAC in the Express or an external one will offer no advantages. That is because DACs are used to convert digital to analog signals.
Unless you plan on connecting this DAC to one of the Onkyo's analog audio ports, there would be no need to use it. In this case the original digital audio signal coming from the source would have to go through two DACs further degrading the signal.

  • Why is my daqpad 6015 pulling down my digital inputs?

I have a daqpad 6015 configured with all digital inputs. The input impedance appears way too low. It pulls down my signals to about a volt from 5V. I know the impedance is supposed to be 'high', the manual is very vague on this subject. Could the board be damaged? Analog I/O is functioning perfectly??? 5V is right where it should be...
    Help?

Hello Wave_Man. Thank you for contacting National Instruments. The high impedance talked about in the manual is referring to the impedance on the input of the board, not the signal being input into it. A small impedance is actually preferred. What I think is happening is that your ground on your signal is different than your ground on you daqpad. When you connect them you should see 5 V. Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great day!

  • How Can I Connect 2 External Display Monitors to a MacBook Pro? Help

I want to know if I can (and How to) connect 2 external display monitors to a MacBook Pro... late 2006 & the new Unibody MBP.
    I'll appreciate

Requires additional hardware - the Matrox DualHead2Go. For the late 2006, you'd need the DualHead2Go Digital Edition, and for the unibody you'd need the DualHead2Go DP Edition, with appropriate cabling (and a DVI-to-VGA adapter for the late 2006 MBP).

I am only a Lab View toddler.
I am currently using a push button, wired to PFIO/TRIG1 and DGND, with a anolog trigger. However noise is causing my program to be triggered. I was told that a digital trigger would help to reduce the random triggering. How do I create a push button digital trigger?
