Connecting from other machine

I have installed Oracle XE 11.2 on a windows 2008 server. I am unable to connect to this database from a client machine. Tried simple connection from SQL developer, and TNS from sql plus. I am getting the following error:
Status : Failure -Test failed: IO Error: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
I have the listener on port 1526 and Application express on 9093. I am able to connect to APEX from the client machines with no issues. Its the database I am unable to connect. I can connect to the database from the host machine (server) but not from any clients.
Please help / advice....

Could be the firewall blocking 1526, if its an actual network error. Is there a TNS error number?
Maybe -12505 listener does not currently know of SID ... or -12514 listener does not currently know of service requested ... ? If the database listener is not on the default 1521 port the local_listener parameter should be set to point the instance at the listener. On the database host make sure the database service has registered, should have both the "xe" and "xexdb" services showing in a lsnrctl services listing.
If the apex web page is working for remote clients, but not database connects, still could be a firewall block.
The telnet utility can reveal if a port is blocked, in a command box try `telnet <host> 1526` from any remote host. If the port isn't blocked it should behave like a command box lockup. Then again, if the client is win 8, may not even have telnet, its optional.

There is nothing in your connect string to tell sqlplus which database you want to connect to.  Therefore it assumes (by default) that you want to connect to a *local* database whose name is identified by the value of the environment variable ORACLE_SID.  And there is no such database, so he gets the reported error trying to establish a connection to a non-existent local service.
You need to specify your target database, thusly:
    SQL>  conn sys/syspw@rmanp as sysdba
BTW, connecting to a remote database as sysdba is considered by most DBAs to be a big secruity breach.  If you really need sysdba privileges (rare) you should be logged on to the database server machine with proper OS credentials, and work from there.

I can't connect to Wi-Fi - keeps timing out. No problem connecting from other laptops / phones. Stopped working after I did a system upgrade. What can I do? I am on OS X Yosemite.

Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, until the problem is resolved. Some of these steps are only possible if you have control over the wireless router.
    Step 1
Turn Wi-Fi off and back on.
    Step 2
Restart the router and the computer. Many problems are solved that way.
    Step 3
Change the name of the wireless network, if applicable, to eliminate any characters other than letters and digits. You do that on your router via its web page, if it's not an Apple device, or via AirPort Utility, if it is an Apple device.
    Step 4
    Run the Network Diagnostics assistant.
    Step 5
In OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and fix the issues listed in the Summary, if any.
    Step 6
Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Enter the name of your wireless network in the search box. You should have one or more "AirPort network password" items with that name. Make a note of the name and password, then delete all the items. Quit Keychain Access. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reconnect to the network.
    Step 7
You may need to change other settings on the router. See the guidelines linked below:
Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    Potential sources of interference
    Step 8
Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    Step 9
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).

Since upgrading, both our wireless printers are still visible, but OSX will not connect with them.  Both work via connecting from other sources via the same wireless router (airport).  What do I need to do to get my printing/scanning working again?

First thing to try is reset Printing System:
OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system
Next would be reset the router (power off 15 secs then back on). And, 2 minutes later, reset the printers 1 by 1.

  • Connecting to other machines!!

I have installed solaris 8.0 on sunfire v100. Everything is going fine, but the problem is other machines can access it with both name and IP address, while this machine can connect to other machines with IP address only. i have put the nameserver in resolv.conf also, added router, but it doesn't work. Please help!!!

    Hello,
You have to force solaris to use dns naming service instead of only using files. This is done with the file /etc/nsswitch.conf. You must edit it and include dns at the hosts entry (line). Have you done this?

  • Can't connect from Linux machine to Mac

    Hello,
Having trouble connecting from a linux machine (Fedora Core 4) to my mac. I see the mac in the "Network" dialog box ("Places->Connect to Server" on Gnome). When i try to connect to it, i get the authentication required dialog, put my info in, but no dice.
    Any ideas?

Very strange. When do you get the permission denied message? Do you get the prompt to enter a password?
Are both users admins? There may be some restrictions for non admin users.
My guess is that either you don't enter the right username or password or IP (but I guess you triple verified that a million times already?), or that you already have modified some configuration of the Mac. ssh should work out of the box, after you enable it, but there are ways to invalidate it.
    If you do
    <pre>
    ls -al /usr/bin/ssh
    </pre>
    what do you get?
    </pre>

    Hi,

I have installed oracle apex 3.2 in my vmware linux machine.
I'm able to connect the link (http://b03apex.domain.com) from my linux(vmware) box but I'm not able to connect from windows local machine.
I tried to ping the ip, from both the ends are working but not sure why I'm not able to connect from windows local machine.
    local windows ip: 192.168.1.2
vmware Linux ip address : 192.168.1.3
Do I need to do add any parameters in the Apache logs to connect from windows local machine.?
    Need your suggestion.

Can you ping the VM hostname from your Windows console (instead of IP address)?
Have you tried in your Windows browser the following URL (using IP address of the VM instead of the hostname)?
    http://192.168.1.3/
Have you checked that your browser is not configured to use a proxy server?
Have you checked your Windows firewall for allowing tcp web traffic to the virtual machine?
Have you checked for the same on on the virtual machine (firewall will be likely be done using <i>iptables</i>).

  • Can't call B1WS web services from other machines?

    Hi Everyone,
We have come across a strange problem that I hope you might have the answer to.
We are using B1WS and DISERVER on a Windows 2003 Server machine.  When I run code from within the machine that has DISERVER and B1WS running on it, it works fine.  It's really nice actually.  I register a web reference to the web service, and it connects and is able to process actions on SAP objects.
The problem I have come into is when I do the same thing, but from another machine.  This means that I create a simple web app, make a web reference to the web service which is now running on another machine, and try to use the same code that works on the other machine.  It fails from this other machine, and when I look at the inner exception, this is what it says:
"no connection could made because target machine actively refused 127.0 0.1 80"
I am not sure what is happening.  We have reviewed the configuration, and it seems okay.
Another way of describing this problem, in case this isn't clear yet, is  this:
Machine A runs DISERVER and B1WS
Running code which uses B1WS web service being hosted in Machine A works well.
Running code in Machine B, which uses B1WS web service being hosted in Machine A does not work at all.
Machine A and Machine B can see each other.  They can talk on port 80, no problems.
IIS is running on Machine A, and is working fine.
I am not sure where to turn next.  Please share your thoughts.
    Thank you very much,
    Mike

    Greetings everyone,
We have found a solution to this problem, and it is very much like one offered by Trinidad, except there was some confusion in my understanding.
    http://sql-patch/B1WS/webreferences/LoginService.wsdl
Indeed, the url http://localhost/Service.asmx appears in the WSDL files, as well as the web.config.
I changed it to http://sql-patch/B1WS/webreferences/LoginService.wsdl in the WSDL files only.  This did not work.
We then found it in the web.config file also, and changed it to http://sql-patch/B1WS/webreferences/LoginService.wsdl also.
The reason I was using this URL is because the files exist there.  Looking at IIS, there is no Service.asmx anywhere in the B1WS path, and this confused me.
This got us one step further, but now a new error was showing itself -- 405 Method Not Allowed.
It turns out that the URL we needed to change it to is this:
    http://sql-patch/B1WS/Service.asmx
That is, we replace localhost with the name of the machine, and NOTHING else.
This seems to have solved it for us, and is hopefully useful for you.
    Thanks all,
    Mike

  • Connecting from remote machine

This topic seems to have been talked about alot, but I've got another variation of the problem. I get the following error when I try to connect from a client machine to my IFS server:
oracle.ifs.common.IfsException: IFS-10110: Unable to construct directory service
oracle.ifs.common.IfsException: IFS-10140: Unable to instantiate credential manager Ifs
oracle.ifs.common.IfsException: IFS-10150: Unable to construct credential manager (oracle.ifs.server.IfsCredentialManager)

    ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
    PL/SQL: Statement ignored at oracle.jdbc.dbaccess.DBError.throwSqlException(DBError.java:168)
My question is that I see the code is trying to access IFSSYS$CM. ...PACKAGE. When my IFS was set up, I used IFSTEST instead of IFSSYS, so in my IFS database the package does exist as IFSTEST$CM.... My first thought was that my IfsDefault (the service I'm trying to use) had the wrong user in it, but it does have User: IFSTEST.
    Any suggestions?
    Charlie

Yeah, that would be a CLASSPATH issue. You've got the wrong version of the JDBC classes (classes12.zip). Make sure you're pointing to the one in $ORACLE_HOME/jdbc/lib -- and if you are, then copy the "one that works" from the iFS server machine to your client machine. That is, if iFS is even working on that machine. The missing library (when using classes111.zip) is very disturbing. I don't know why you're having such trouble with the JDBC library. Make sure you've got ORACLE_HOME/lib in your LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
Now, please note that you cannot mix JDBC versions. That is, if you compile with JDK 1.1.8, you better be using classes111.zip when compiling and when running. With JDK 1.2, use classes12.zip.
Also, your configuration is a little "weird". Really, you've got two server machines, both of which are essentially database AND iFS servers. On the "client" machine, you're just using Net8 software to talk to the other database, even though you've got the whole database installed. You may as well just install the Oracle 8i Client there. That's all you need.
Secondly, iFS doesn't really have the notion of a "client", at least not the way you're working with it. If you copy the iFS jars and the service properties file (IfsDefault.properties) and run an iFS application on your "client", you're really running an full iFS server (I guess you could think of it as a "fat client" if you're familiar with that terminology). Currently, the way we have designed iFS is to have protocol servers provide the link between clients and the iFS server. That is, you could run a web browser (on a true client machine) and access the iFS server. Or you could map a network drive to the iFS server.
Anyway, feel free to ask more questions.

  • Connections from other applications.

    Hello,
Is there any parameter we can set to control the number of connections from an external application. I am using J2EE application server connection pool to connect to Oracle from Java. In Applciation server setting we can configure the number of connections in a pool.
Is there some parameter some thing like this in the Oracle database to control the number incoming connections?

    Hi RavensFan,
I'm using a 21CFRPart11 compliant SQL-based user permission rights database access tool (DataTrak), which is a legacy ActiveX control from this project's previous releases. Unfortunately the company that make it are long gone, but I'm stuck with it - no choice, no support.
I've been tracking the problem down, and although the problem only occurs when I call up the ActiveX component then exit, it also seems that the problem goes away if I remove my .NET marquee-style progress bar from a seperate subvi. Confusing, but the system is stable with one or the other, but exits with a crash when both are included the executable!
Given the ActiveX control is a requirement, and my marquee progress bar is a niceity, it looks like the progress bar will have to go...
