Connecting JDeveloper to sybase database

I'm trying to connect my JDeveloper to a sybase database server instead of an oracle database server. I first wanted to know if it's possible and second what do i need to put in the connection parameters. I have installed the sybase client on my machine and here are the contents of the sql.ini file
------------------------------sql.ini
[SDSYBASE]
master=NLWNSCK,sd-sybase,5003
query=NLWNSCK,sd-sybase,5003
Should i choose third party JDBC driver as a connection type and if so what about the driver class where can i get it from.
Please if anyone can help i would appreciate it a lot.

guys i figured it out. for those of you who will face the same problem here is what i did.
1) add the following file jtds-1.2.2.jar to C:\JDeveloper\jdbc\lib directory. download the jar file from sourceforge.
2) Click on new database connection and put in your connection name and select Third party JDBC driver from the Connection type drop down
3) put in the username and password of the database you want to connect to
4) Step 3 of 4 click new on the driver class
in the driver class put net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.Driver
in the library Jtds-1.2.2.jar
in the classpath C:\JDeveloper\jdbc\lib\jtds-1.2.2.jar
click on OK
in the URL put jdbc:jtds:sybase://<hostname>:<port>/db_name
test your connection and it should work.

  • How do I connect to a Sybase database from Crystal?

    I have never tried to connect to Sybase data before and I am having difficulty figuring out how.  I am using CR XIR2 from my desktop and trying to connect to what I am told is a Sybase database (voicemail system).  I believe Sybase vers 12.5, but not entirely sure yet.  Postings on the forum and other sites appear to be directed toward sdk developers or other development and were not helpful.  Most of what I am reading points toward an Adaptive Server® Enterprise (ASE) ODBC Driver by Sybase.  However, I was told that was not true but the person promising to forward the information never came through. Are there additional drivers I need to install or can someone point me in the right direction?  Thanks!

    Hi Wendy,
    32-bit NATIVE DRIVERS
    CRDB_P2SSYB10.DLL is the native driver for Sybase ASE.  It is used with Sybase ASE 12.5
    NOTE:  The native driver for Sybase ASE cannot be used to connect to Sybase ASA (Adaptive Server Anywhere) or Sybase ASIQ (Adaptive Server IQ).  Sybase ASA and Sybase ASIQ include their own ODBC drivers as part of their installation package.  These drivers provide the only means of connecting to Sybase ASA and Sybase ASIQ databases.
    I hope this helps you.

  • Connecting to ASA / Sybase database

    I was so excited to work on the Creator, until lately due to the lack of database drivers. I am using ASA Adaptive Server Anywhere or SQL Anywhere 6.0.3 all the way up to the latest version 9.x. I have tried all kind of drivers and it seems that the only one that I could get a hold on cost 15 times more than the creator, not to mention that I will need to migrate in the next few months to Linux and again will have to buy another license for a Linux box. I think that SUN ought to design a JDBC-ODBC bridge that is compliant with JDBC 3.0 at least to allow developers to move slowly until all db vendors have a solid JDBC 3.0 compliant drivers.
    Still, if any one was able to connect and get the data from an ASA database, I would appreciate if they could tell me which driver to use.
    Thank you.

    The problem is that the current Sybase drivers (Jconnect) are not compliant with JDBC 3.0 and so far I did not get any answer regarding when Jconnect 6.0 will be compliant. The only documentation that I have says that Jconnect 6.0 is not and that in the future it will be compliant with JDBC 3.0. My suggestion is for SUN to upgrade the JDBC-ODBC bridge to be compliant with JDBC 3.0 to provide the existing users with a way out. We have been delaying our projects to use JSC for 2 months, and eventually, we will be forced to move to .NET which we did not want right from the start.

  • Unable to connect to ZFD7 Sybase Database

    I get the unable to log into database message when trying to connect to a ZFD 7SP1 ir4 inventory database, the database is the 'in built' Sybase version that was used during the server setup. Documentation for the product seems to advise that I need the Sybase drivers/client files on the local machine. I cannot find these on the ZFD7 second disk as advised by the documentation, could anyone please advise what files/setup are needed and the location that these can be obtained from, any help would be great.

  • How to connect sybase database in JDeveloper 11g using JConnect

    Hi
    How to connect sybase database in JDeveloper 11g using JConnect? Please help.

    User,
    It would help if you explained Sybase Jconnect instead of leaving us to google.
    At any rate, it appears you need to create a library definition in JDeveloper, add the appropriate JConnect JAR files to the library's classpath, and then add the library to your project.

  • Oracle Gateway Not Connecting to Sybase database

    Hi,
    I'm trying to setup an oracle gateway to connect to Sybase database. I followed in details the instructions but still can connect successfully. The Oracle database is in RAC environment. Below are the steps I took:
    The oracle gateway and oracle database are in the same server while Sybase is on a separate unix box.
    1. create an initdg4sybs.ora file
    # This is a customized agent init file that contains the HS parameters
    # that are needed for the Database Gateway for Sybase
    # HS init parameters
    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO=[999.99.108.99]:4527/common ## IP address of sybase server
    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL=ON
    HS_FDS_RECOVERY_ACCOUNT=RECOVER
    HS_FDS_RECOVERY_PWD=RECOVER
    2. create a listener on the oracle gateway home
    # listener.ora Network Configuration File: /u03/app/oracle/gateway/11.2/network/admin/listener.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    LISTENER_DG4SYSBS =

    3. create tnsnames.ora in oracle database home
    dg4sybs =

    (HS=OK)
    4. create database link
    create database link dg4sybs connect to "user" identified by "password" using 'dg4sybs'
    5. when testing the connection; i'm getting below error message. tried all the setup based my research and couldn't make it work.

    1. Create ODBC for this sybase connection, and it should display "Connection successful" when you click "Test connection".
       (you need to specify several parameters like user id & password, server,database name and file, etc.)
    2. Create datastore by using ODBC connection.

    InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext();
    DataSource ds = (DataSource) ctx.lookup("jdbc/AimDB");
    Connection con = ds.getConnection();
    It is giving an error message:
    Error 500: Exception occurred while the JNDI NamingManager was processing a javax.naming.Reference object.
    On console below error message is coming:
    E SRVE0026E: [Servlet Error]-[Exception occurred while the JNDI NamingManager was processing a javax.naming.Reference object.]: com.ibm.websphere.naming.CannotInstantiateObjectException: Exception occurred while the JNDI NamingManager was processing a javax.naming.Reference object. • What is the database string used in the connection box for sybase-merant?

    I am using report wizard of Reports Developer 9 to create report for Sybase database. Assume the Sybase database uses the following setting:
    user: sa
    password: password
    computer IP address: 10.0.187.30
    computer host name: development
    port number: 2468
    database name: TEST01
    If I use sybase-merant (JDBC Query) as the data connection, I need to input USERNAME, PASSWORD and DATABASE at the Connection Box. What should I input for the DATABASE? I have inputted "sa" as the USERNAME and "password" as the PASSWORD. When I inputted "10.0.187.30:2468:TEST01" as the DATABASE, I got error which indicated the data source cannot be connected. I have also tried "10.0.187.30,2468:TEST01", "10.0.187.30:2468", "10.0.187.30,2468" and "10.0.187.30", but none of them worked.
    Thank you.

    Hello,
    If you go through the link, mentioned above, an entry is needed to register a JDBC-Driver for your database(sybase).
    Driver entry contains a attibute "connectString", which contain the
    connection syntax to the datbase.
    connectString = "mainProtocol:subProtocol://databaseName"
    mainProtocol and subProtocol part of the connection String are defined in config file and "databaseName" has to be mentioned in JDBC Query Connection Diloag.
    Sample databasename : database:portnumber
    Here database refer to the sybase database user want to connect and portnumber : port on which its running(it will be normally 4100 or 5000).
    Please refer the comments in file ORACLE_HOME/reports/conf/JDBCPDS.CONF for more detail.
    With Regards
    Reports team.

  • Keep alive sybase database connection

    Hi,
    How we can keep connections alive. In our application we are using java as frond-end and making connection to sybase database server using jconnect. We are firing big queries which took generally more than two hours to run. But firewall drops the connection which are ideal for more than 1 hour.
    So, is there any way out to keep those connections alive.
    Thanks in advance.

    You shouldn't be attempting to run a job that takes that long. Googling certainly suggests that Sybase supports scheduled jobs.
    That suggests the following
    1. Create a job queue (table)
    2. Create a scheduled task to process tasks in the job queue.
    3. Modify your app to put a task in the job queue.
    4. Modify your app to query for a complete job at some reasonable interval (like minutes.)
    And you might look further at the design and requirements for that matter. For example there is no point in running a 2 hour job 15 times a day that returns the same results because 15 people want the same results. Instead run the job once at midnight and keep the results and return those each time for the 15 requests.
    Even if the jobs are different sometimes the data can be munged in a nightly process to make it more efficient. For example create a summary for each account. Then a sales report for a specific sale rep just collects the existing summaries rather than summerizing it each time.
