having some difficulty doing this and receiving no help from MSN. trying to connect to msn isp and macbook not accepting msn log-in information. modem dials, says authenticating, then disconnects with "unable to verify source." Any thoughts?

I have my 2nd MacBook, sequential, and each of them were unable to maintain a dial-up connection via an Apple Modem and my local, historically rock solid, ISP.
In the case of my current machine, apparently the 10.4.7 update influenced the USB ports in an unfortunate way. My temporary, not very satisfactory at all, work-around is to plug the modem into the right hand USB port and only the right hand USB port.
This remedy has worked for some others. There are previous posts on this topic - if you can stay on-line long enough to read them...

Downloading Firefox 4.0 using dial-up internet service

I want to upgrade to Firefox 4.0. I have Earthlink dial-up internet service. Is it possible to download the program and if so how long do you think it would take. Mostly I download programs from discs; it is too difficult to maintain an open internet connection long enough to download a large program. I can't even open a file of photos if someone sends me more than one or two at a time.

AirPort Express 3 is not actually "extending" the network at all, since Apple's "Extend a wireless network" will only allow the wireless signal to be extended one time or one level.
The trick with AirPort Express 3.....which may nor may not be possible due to your home layout.....is that AirPort Express 3 must be about the same distance from Big AirPort as AirPort Express 1 and 2.......AND......it needs to be closer to Big AirPort than it is to either AirPort Express 1 and 2.
That way AirPort 3 will pick up a stronger signal from Big AirPort and it extend the network correctly.

The iPad with 3G would be a good choice if you have 3G service in your area. You can do internet, mail, all kinds of social networking, games, etc. The monthly fee for service is $20/month for 1GB data or $35/month for 3GB data on the Verizon network. This is cheaper (I believe) than service on a wifi hotspot. You would of course have the cost of the iPad itself.

Unable to connect macbook pro (lion) to internet

I have a macbook pro that is approx 8 months old. About 2 days ago I found that I cannot connect to the internet. The symtoms are quite confusing. I would first like to say that I can connect my wife's dell/win7 fine, I can also use my wireless printer which is connected to a win7 server, I can also use my IPhone and IPad. If I go into the macbook network configuration I can view the router. I can successfully setup a connection a get assigned a valid ipaddress. I am able to ping the router fine. It is just when I try to use the browser(firefox or safari) I can't connect to a site. I did reset the router a number of times with no change. I tried to get new ipaddresses by renewing the DHCP Lease. This will get me a new ipaddress but I still can't connect to a website. There is one very strange thing, if I go into my router's configuration page and get a list of connected devices I will see my macbook listed. If I hit refresh to update the list of devices sometimes the macbook is not displayed. I can refresh it again and then it will be displayed again. I am technically savy so I understand a bit about networking and routers, but this is really doing me no good. The is one thing that shouldn't have an effect on the connect, I recently installed Parallels, like I said this shouldn't have caused a problem like this.

I have read several articles about changing DNS on the MAC.
I did not try to follow the advice of those articles because all we need is a simple, and all that we do not need is complicated.
I open Apple > System settings... > Network > and choose Wi-Fi, DNS tab.
There I saw
DNS Servers: 192 168.2.1
Search Domains: Home
With use the "+" on right side I replaced the "Home" to "www.google.com".
Now I can connect to www.apple.com and I have a faster internet than ever before.

How can get ATT Dial Up internet service?

I currently have ATT Uverse for phone and internet, however, the cost will almost double after the promotion ends. I am on a fixed income and I don't want to change my phone landline number of more than 30 years. With this new technology, I now find it necessary to have internet which I don't use very much. Why don't ATT have a senior discount program that will meet our basic needs.Can anyone give me some answers. I am told by ATT that DSL is not available, however, Direct TV is still in my area but I must get TV to get the phone and internet.

What plans do you currently subscribe to and how much do you pay? If you're not already, I would suggest downgrading your U-verse phone service to voice 200.
The current lowest rate for internet + phone is for 6 Mbps(or any lower tier) and voice 200 which comes out to be $34.95 a month on a promotion, plus a $7 gateway rental = $41.95. Once your promotion is nearing it's end, you should try to get in touch with the AT&T retention department and explain your situation. They are usually willing to provide another promotion if you agree to a 1 year contract. Once you upgrade to U-verse service, you cannot get AT&T DSL/POTS.

We cannot answer your questions.. and the method looks wrong.. why are you doing it manually.. just use dhcp and see if it works.
There is hardly a modem or router out there that doesn't have dhcp setup for automatic setups.
If it is manual then there is no way we can give you the values..
They are determined 100% by the network you plug the computer into.. and the setting of that network.
Tell us more if you supply modem router.. and ISP info and why it is not working with dhcp we might be able to help further.

Connecting my MacBook Pro to the Internet via Cingular

I am, at this moment, using my MacBook Pro to access the internet, and play World of Warcraft tethered via bluetooth to my Razr using my data plan from Cingular.
This has been such a battle. I had tried before and couldn't get it to connect. I had searched and searched for a solution because I need to be able to play World of Warcraft where ever I go. In the past I had used my Sony Ericcson T616 and my data plan from AT&T with no problems. But I was forced to upgrade to Cingular and since then, the only way to get online while travelling with the Razr was to boot into Windows XP. Cingular provides a program that connects fairly simply to both any wireless device and wifi. This was a hardship for the obvious reasons, plus I haven't figured out how to get the sound to turn off the speakers, even when using the headphone jack, so I had to mute the sound and you really can't play World of Warcraft with the sound muted.
So how did I do it? I decided to dedicate a couple of hours to tech support prior to taking my next train trip. After spending half an hour with Cingular's tech support and going over my settings, some of which are mentioned in the discussions here, I was transferred to a 3rd party vendor, WDS and they took me all the way back to the beginning and here are the changes they had me do that worked.
First I unpaired the phone and started the pairing process and instead of picking the second option, which mentions GPRS in the section what do you want to do with the cellphone (this is listed under the option that you can check for syncing with isync. Instead of selecting the 2nd choice, choose the one that says connecting with number provided by internet service provider.
The second change was the the phone number. Instead of *99# or anything like that, I was told to put ISP.CINGULAR.
The only other thing was selecting error compression or something like that in the bluetooth modem section above the one that says wait for dial tone (which is unchecked).
I'm connected and very happy.

Keychain Access and dial-up Internet connection problem

For the past two days I was unable to connect to my dial-up Internet on my Sawtooth. It's got 10.4.11. The Internet phone connections checked out fine. I even tried my old Dell and it got on the Internet ok.
I checked the Internet settings and thought they were ok. My Internet provider's website help section on set-up is worthless for Mac OS X. They only show instructions for OS 8 & 9!! Found some other dial up providers set-ups and went by them.
After trying to get the settings correct, right before I tried to connect to the 'net, a dialog box called "Confirm Access to Keychain" always came up. The box said: "pppd wants permission to use the "PPP Password" item from your keychain. Do you want to allow this? Deny, Allow Once, or Always Allow?" I had read on the Mac OS X help that allowing the keychain always permission to access to use passwords when going online isn't a good idea... I always kept clicking "Deny" and I couldn't connect. Just got brave a bit ago, and clicked on "Allow Once" and here I am on the Internet!!! This keychain business was the problem the whole time!
My question is how in the world did the Keychain get involved, as I didn't even ask it to save the Internet password etc. The Keychain shows PPP password listed three times and I believe a Dashboard certificate. Would it be ok to delete the three PPP password listed? Was going to, but was afraid I'd really mess up Tiger... I don't want to mess with Keychain at all, since I've read in the past that it can really cause headaches if not used correctly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Yes, you can delete those PPP entries if you don't mind entering the Password each time you connect, though I'm on dial-up & have Always Allow checked without problems or a decade or so.

There are some steps on this page for syncing a device (the page talks about iPhones, but it would work for iPads as well) to a new computer : Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive.
When you connect an iPad to a computer's iTunes for the first time it might give you two options, to replace what is currently on the iPad with what is in that computer's iTunes library, or to set it up as a new device (i.e. remove all content from it) - hopefully the above page will get around that.
You should be able to use different computers to update the iOS version and to sync content (can you not use the same computer ?), but you will probably have to do the above for both.
If you don't currently have anything on the iPad that you don't mind losing (have you downloaded apps or other content when you've had access to wifi e.g. in shops, other people's homes ; or got any documents etc on it) then you don't need to go through the steps on that page.

No connexion to BlackBerry Internet Service

I have a Blackberry Torch and since 10 days, I don't have any access anymore to Blackberry Internet Service (BIS).
The access sometimes comes back for a few minutes/hours, and then, it is disconnected during hours/days.
Actually, the connexion is interrupted 95% of time.
What is strange is that putting my sim card in another Blackberry, everything is working well, and putting another sim card in my Blackberry, everything is also working well.
It means we can not conclude my Blackberry doesn't work but we cannot conclude that my sim card is the issue neither, especially because my provider, B&You, sent me a new sim card.
I can see that my Blackberry is always trying to connect to BIS as every 5 or 10 minutes, the Blackberry logo appears on my screen for a few seconds and disapears just after.
Checking in my parameters, I see "not connected" in the section "Blackberry Internet Service".
As a consequence, I have no access to bbm, no access to Internet and I cannot send any email...
Can anybody help me?

For OS5 and 4.x
Options - Advanced Options - Host Routing Table
and click Register now, and escape back to the home page.
For OS6 and higher
in options, device , advanced, host routing table, click on menu and choose register now.
Wait 2 minutes and see if registration to network happens.

Macbook "connected" to wireless, but no internet/email.

I have a macbook pro that is running Mac OS X Lion. I've had it for about three years without problems. Recently, however, it stopped being able to connect to the internet through my home wireless network. Nothing changed about my macbook or my network/modem/router. Other devices in the house (PC, iphones) are able to connect to the internet via my wireless network, but not my macbook (and, incidentally, neither can my ipad now). If I take my macbook to any other wireless network (coffee shops etc.) it connects to the wireless and I can access the internet without problem. I have tried the online apple chat support feature, we tried a few things (can't remember what exactly) and have also had my internet service provider reset my modem. Nothing has worked. I've tried various interventions suggested on some message boards here (restarting, resetting modem, deleting and reselecting airport etc.) and nothing has seemed to help. Running network diagnostics comes up with nothing, and it states that there is nothing wrong with the wireless connection or the internet. This is very frustrating, because I can't take it into an apple store (it will most definitely work on their wireless) and it doesn't appear to be related to my ISP (because of the other devices that are able to access the internet) so bringing the cable guy out won't be of much help either. There is something wrong with the communication between MY wireless network and the internet on my macbook.
Wondering if anyone has had this problem recently? Anything that has worked for them? I'm about as computer savvy as a squirrel, so any instructions would be most helpful if they were simple and easy to follow. Thanks so much!

Hold down the option key and select the Wi-Fi menu in the menu bar. What values are shown for the following?
          PHY Mode
          Channel
          Security
          Signal/Noise or RSSI
          Transmit Rate
Please do not post the BSSID, as that information is private.
Now hold down the option key again and select
           ▹ System Information... ▹ Network ▹ Wi-Fi
Compare the two-letter Country Code with the ISO code for your country. Does it match? The code X0 means that the country couldn't be determined. The code X3 means South America, not otherwise specified.
