Connecting MBA 11" to Vizio VX20L

I have a Macbook Air 11" 2011, the KANEX Mini Display Port to HDMI Cable, and a Vizio VX20L HDTV. The MBA detects the TV (the screen flickers blue, but then shortly returns to the regular screen) but the TV does not (displays a NO SIGNAL! on screen). I've checked the display preferences and tried to discover the device but it does not appear. Am I doing something wrong?

schorner- There is plenty of room for the cables. Yes, I would have liked all cable inputs on one side, but you have more than enough slack to play with. I have the 13".
I am hooked up to the Apple 24" LED Cinema and there are no screen/video issues. Everything is same as my 15" MBP. A nice way to take the 13" Air and turn it into an iMac.
I bought the 24" when I knew the 27" was coming out. For me, the resolution of the 24" is better suited for me. Plus, the 27" is a monster. I had a 24" iMac when they first came out and ended up selling it because it was just too big. But this more wide ratio is much nicer.
So I wouldn't worry about using the 27". I'm sure it will look great.

  • Connecting MBA to our small business server 2003

    Hi guys,
I just got a new 13inch MBA. I would like to use this at work for my exchange server email etc.
How do I put the MBA onto our .local domain and we use a VPN for remote connectivity?
This is my first MacBook so I'm finding my feet with the whole macbok and how it works.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks

I have specific errors listed below:
Actually, I have been encountering similar problems.  I have an end user who wants to connect to an SBS 2003 server, and can not connect/use RWW because the Active X will not work, cannot use the VPN in PPTP mode because Windows 8 disallows the connection
("Error 942: The connection could not be established because the authentication method used by your connection profile is not permitted for use by an access policy configured on the RAS/VPN server."), and cannot use an L2TP VPN connection because it requires
a certificate "Error 766: A certificate could not be found. Connections that use the L2TP protocol over IPSEC require the installation of a machine certificate, also known as a computer certificate.".  I attempted to utilize the SBS Connection Tool downloaded
from RWW, but it fails with a proxy error ("Unable to execute custom script (Configure proxy settings for IE). Required file could be missing." - likely due to the PPTP tunnel it tries to use). I went so far as to install the Enterprise CA on the server, installed
    the Hotfix
(KB922706) so that the website could be accessed from Vista and above, and installed the requested certificate.  The VPN fails to connect after
it times out and fails to negotiate a connection.  This last one is "Error 789: L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer
encountered a processing error during the initial negotiations with the remote computer."
I have screenshots to share if anyone cares to see.  I really just get the feeling that Microsoft is trying to kill SBS 2003 by ingoring it into oblivion.
The VPN works fine with Windows 7 clients by the way.

  • How to connect MBA to Windows domain over Wi-Fi?

Hi. I`m on a university campus. MBA automatically picks up wi-fi connection, which is great. Because MBA does not have an Ethernet port, how do I join my office's Windows 2003 network domain over Wi-Fi? Thanks for any help I can get!

    Hi dufus,
Are you looking to access domain resources over WiFi? Such as printers, AD resources, etc.? This sounds like a question for the domain administrators, unfortunately. Reason I say that, the domains that I manage at work specifically restrict access to resources based on connection Subnet and VLAN. As such unless you're hard wired to specific ports you don't get access to my resources.
Everyone manages their domains differently and without knowing how your domain is configured it's impossible to recommend steps.

  • Connect MBA to LCD Flat Panel

I've tried to connect my MBA to my LG 42" LCD Flat Panel by using the RGB connector. When doing this, the MBA screen changes its resolution, but i can't see nothing on the LCD. Do I need to install a driver?

You are going to need to purchase an adapter from Apple to interface to the Mini DVI connector. Then get a cable like this from monoprice:

  • Connecting MBA to domain using WPA Enterprise

    Hi guys!
I'm having "the usual" new MBA WiFi-problems, meaning my MBA keeps dropping the WiFi connection occasionally, but that's going on in another thread.
I don't know whether this is a related problem, but I can't seem to connect the MBA to the WiFi network at the office at all. The network connection dialog tells me my connection needs WPA Enterprise credentials, but no matter what I write, I won't get connected.
So I'll start with the basics. This works for every other device I have (PC laptop, iPhone, iPads and so on):
    Username: \\MyDomain\MyUserName
    Password: MyPassword
But not for the MBA. For the domain/username, I've tried single \´s and /´s and just about any combination just in case this is a "Mac syntax thing" (this is my first Mac laptop), with and without the MyDomain part, lowercase, uppercase, quotation marks around the password (as I saw mentioned in some thread in the case of alphanumeric WEP, or some such), but nothing works. I don't remember the exact error message, but it has to do with the authentication server perhaps not being available.
Apparently others have had problems with the WPA Enterprise connections as well, but could somebody just confirm that the \\MyDomain\MyUsename -syntax I'm using is indeed correct.
    Cheers,
    Kim

    Marc,
I'm suprised that WPA works over WDS. I had thought that because WPA cycles the encryption key with each message transmission that the two Airport devices would quickly get out of sync.
But I do respect Alan's opinion, so I'd give in to his statement that it does work, I'll be searching through the update readme's to see when it started working.
You could always drop back to WEP encryption. Unless you have the FBI next door listening in and analysing all your network traffic, it's not going to be broken.
WPA changes the encryption key with each wireless message, WEP doesn't. So in theory, with WEP, someone could analyse all your network traffic, looking for patterns. You can work out just how hard that is.
If you choose an obvious password (like from a dictionary) it won't matter if you're on WPA instead of WEP, the Feds / hackers will be in in a short time.

Vostros are reasonably new, so the laptop will at least have a DVI port.
Depending on whether the laptop has DVI output or HDMI output, you will either need a DVI-to-HDMI cable (Or DVI-to-HDMI adapter and HDMI cable) or you may just need an HDMI cable.
Also, if the laptop has a DVI output, you will need a separate audio cable.  Depending on what audio inputs the TV has, this means you will either need a 3.5mm-to-3.5mm stereo patch cable (same kind that would connect an iPod or XM receiver to a car's aux input), or a 3.5mm-to-RCA stereo adapter cable.

  • Instructions for wirelessly connecting MBA to Panasonic smart TV

I have a late 2013 MBA and want to connect it wirelessly without using an Apple tv box to my Panasonic TX-L32E6B smart tv. Can anyone provide instructions for doing this?

Apple TV is a setup box it does not matter how "smart" the tv is
Apple TV will let you mirror newer MacBooks to the screen but not yours it's so old the video card can't cope
you can use the program called airparrot it is suppose to support it but when the video card is too old it can cause issues in terms of performance and it could give a somewhat impaired experience

  • Connecting MBA 2012 to three External Displays

I am looking to purchase a 2012 MBA, contingent upon connecting to three external displays. As the MBA 2012 has a USB3.0 and a Thunderbolt port,  I plan to use  -
    - A Plugable UGA-2K-A USB 2.0 adapter to convert the USB3.0 to a HDMI/DVI input on a 21 monitor (For text only)
    - Use a DualHead2Go Digital SE to connect it from the Thunderbolt port to the HDMI/DVI inputs of the two external monitors (run two different applications and not a stretched image)
I am wondering if this would work (albeit with minimal lag) or if are there any other alternatives to hooking it up to three external monitors.  Thanks

Did you ever get this figured out?

  • Connecting Mac Mini to Vizio 42"

It seems I have no good options. If I select 1024x576, the picture is too "zoomed" in. If I select 720p, I can barely read the words on the screen. Very few other options even come up in the display options. How can I get better options? Anyone else try to connect to Vizio 42; if so, what resolution did you select

    Similar problem...
gmc1974 –I just got a Vizio 32" for my computer monitor. I have it set up from the computer's preferences at 1024x768@75htz. On the tv menu, _do not use_ auto adjust (in Picture setup) because it will stretch it out out of wack. Under the menu item "setup" – Wide should be set at normal. So that makes everything the correct proportion at the highest rez supported.
Problem with that is this creates a working area that is about 6.5" narrower than the actual screen. Everything is very big, which has it's benefit. BUT what I am looking to do is to be able to use the entire screen area. I also want more "real-estate" to work on instead of just magnifying everything.
Does anyone know of any drivers or settings or add-ons that can make this work for me?

  • Connection mba to av receiver pioneer VSX-322

    Hi,
I'm trying to connect my mac book air (late 2011) to my av receiver pioneer VSX-322 trough a LMP "minidisplayport to hdmi converter" and hdmi cord
My av receiver will be later connected to a projector with hdmi connection. (my actual one has only a VGA connection and cannot be connected to the pioneer receiver
I want to transfer the image and audio signal from the MBA to av receiver (with sound played on the connected speakers) and the image from there to a hdmi connected projector
But the sound keep to be played on my mac book air...
    Could somebody help me?
    Thanks a lot

    Ok,
    I get the answer
    (hummm...)
I only had to go into "preferences" -> "sound" -> "out" and choose hdmi instead of the mba speakers....
    that was it!

  • Connecting MBA to HDTV

This is going to be my first time connecting my Macbook Air to a TV. I would like to know what I need in order to do that and get the best display quality. I already have an HDMI cable that I bought a long time ago and that is connected in a PS3. Do I have to buy a new one or can I use it. What else do I need besides an HDMI cable?

I bought the cable from amazon - works perfectly (sound and audio)!
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002WSM2N6/ref=oss_product
Also.. If the content is on your Mac, streaming it to your PS3 is easy to setup, and it works very well with PS3 media Server (free software):

  • Mac will not connect to sony or vizio hdtv.

I've been using a rocketfish hdmi adapter for a month with no problems connecting to both of my tv's.  Now I can't connect with either.  Help!

Sounds like you may have downloaded a Trojan such as the one called 'DNSChanger' or 'OSZ.RSPlug', which can alter the DNS settings of your network connection. This particular Trojan can be inadvertently installed if you have come across certain Quicktime movies where got a window stating that you have to download and install a particular codec in order to see the video.
If you have agreed to that installation, your system can be infected and your DNS settings altered, which results in your system using the wrong DNS servers, which can slow web surfing to a crawl.
This can be fixed by downloading and running a freeware utility called DNSChanger Removal Tool which you can download from here:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/33696
Once you have run that utility you have to re-boot your Mac, then reset Safari, and re-enter your DNS settings in System Preferences/Network.

  • Can I connect my my macbook pro to a Vizio 32" LED HDTV?

I have a 15-inch Mid-2009 Macbook Pro that I currently have connected to an external monitor, using a mini displayport to DVI. I would like to now connect my computer to Vizio E320-AO 32" Class LED HDTV (720p;60Hz). I will be purchasing a dvi-hdmi adapter and connecting it to the TV. To anybody familiar with connecting their macbooks to a HDTV, have you had any issues and do you even recommend this? Should I purchase a mini displayport to HDMI?
    My Specs:
    Year: Mid 2009
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 256 MB

There is no reason you cannot do that.  But be apprised that the HDMI cable will only transmit video in a 2009 MBP For audio, you will have to tap the audio output port.
