Connecting Oracle 10 XE to IBM Cognos Express

Hello,
I´m trying to connect IBM Cognos Express to an Oracle 10 XE Database.
The OS is Windows Server 2003 x64.
I installed the XE Client and configured the tnsnames.ora in C:\XEClient\bin.
The SQL Command line works fine, but when I try using this configuration in Cognos I get the errorcode ORA-12154.
I tried installing the expressinstall odbc driver, but it isn´t listet in the availible drivers for System DNS creation.
I found them in the "SysWOW64"-Version of the ODBC tool, but get the same error as I get from Cognos.
The same configuration works fine with Windows XP.
What can be wrong?
I´ve read many threads before and used google as best as I can, but I haven't foun a solution yet.
Thanks a lot!

  • Connecting oracle 10g express edition to jdeveloper

I am having all kinds of problems connecting oracle 10g express edition with my jdeveloper 10.1.3.3. I can query the database from my command line so I know it is set up, but for whatever reason jdeveloper will not connect with it. When I try to connect with the database through jdeveloper here is the error I keep getting:
Listener refused the connection with the following error:
ORA-12518, TNS:listener could not hand off client connection
The Connection descriptor used by the client was:
    localhost:1521:ORCL
I have been all through the google results looking for an answer and have come to the conclusion that it is something with either the listerner file or the tns file, but as of yet have been unable to locate them. here are both of those files too.

Please any help would be appreciated I have been at this for days, thanks.

This has to be some kind of bug with 10g express because I see lots of people having similar problems. I'm in the process of uninstalling 10g, and I will re-install it see if that makes a difference. Again if anyone has any other ideas please keep them coming because this is utter BS it shouldn't be this hard.

  • Problem about using Oracle Form 6i to connect Oracle Database 10g express.

Sorry to interrupt all of you.
I have encountered a problem about using Oracle Form 6i to connect Oracle Database 10g express.
    As I would like to
I use Oracle Net8 Easy Config to create a connection.
    According to "tnsnames.ora", the paramater of connection is as follows;
    XE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = XE))
Unfortunately, when I use Oracle Net8 Easy Config to test the connection, an error message is prompted as follows:
    Connecting....
    The test did not succeed.
ORA-03106: fatal two-task communication protocol error
There may be an error in the fields entered
or the server may not be ready for a connection.
You can check the server and retry, or continue.
After I google it, I still have no idea how to solve the problem. I would like to ask, could anyone mind providing some hints or solution to address the issues.
Thanks for your assistance in advance.

I don't believe the Net8 Easy Config (NEC) will create a compatible entry in the tnsnames.ora. I have Forms 6i running successfully against a 10g Express database, but I did not use the NEC - I created the entry myself. Here is the entry I use:
    XE=
      (DESCRIPTION=
        (ADDRESS=
          (PROTOCOL=TCP)
          (HOST=<<servername or IP address>>)
          (PORT=1521)
        (CONNECT_DATA=
          (SERVER=dedicated)
          (SERVICE_NAME=XE)
      )Hope this helps,
    Craig B-)

  • How to connect to oracle database from visual basic 2010 express edition

I have installed visual basic 2010 express edition on windows xp. But visual basic 2010 express edition supports Microsoft sql server database file,Microsoft sql server compact 3.5, Microsoft access database file. I want to connect to oracle database from visual basic 2010 express edition. So what drivers are required and how to do connectivity?

    Hello,
I wasn't clear on what you were using to make the connection. I had a look in Visual Studio 2010 (don't have express to test sorry).
I think you mean the Data Sources available under the menu Data-> Datasources. this seems to match the description you give when I
look at the list of datasource options.
In here you can make ODBC connections via the Microsoft .net Data Provider .
If you select ODBC as a datasource you can see listed the DSN's you created - for example I see 2 which use the Oracle ODBC driver.
This assumes you installed an Oracle Client + the oracle version of the ODBC driver (comes with the oracle client).
Once you created a server connection then you should see it in the server explorer.
You can also download the Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio which is an add on for VS.
** I suspect this is only for VS 2010 and I didn't see that Express was supported.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/visual-studio/overview/index-097110.html
Let me know if that helps.

  • Extract / Export Data from my IBM Cognos Applix TM1 to BW7 Oracle based

    Hi,
I need to extract data from my IBM Cognos Applix TM1 to my Oracle based BW7.
    Anyone has done this ?
How to get Data out of the Applix TM1 ?
    Are BW7 Adaptors for TM1 availiable ?
What about OLE DB ? Anyobody tried this yet ?
    Thanks
    Martin

    Its CSV File only:
    Folgende Methoden sind nicht möglich:
    -Oracle Gateway auf TM1
    -Oracle Heterogenous Services auf TM1
    -ODBO, MDX Query etc,

  • IBM cognos TM1 Executive viewer is not working on direct Access

    Hi,
We are implementing DirectAccess in our environment and testing applications in test lab. It has been observed that executive viewer is not working on Direct Access but working fine over VPN mobile checkpoint. When DA client click on open view button it
    gives error
    " Additional information:
Unable to connect to server XYZ.com using TCP-IP port 7112. Please make sure that IBM cognos TM1 executive viewer server is started and the port is not blocked by any proxy server or firewall"
but from client telnet is working on port 7112. All ports between DA server and application server are open 3389,7112 and 80.
Also select database option is grayed out and user is unable to select the database. When switching to VPN its working fine.
We are using Executive viewer 9.4.
    Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like this program may not be capable of talking over IPv6, which DirectAccess uses. First make sure that when you connect it is trying to talk to a hostname and not an IPv4 address. If your program is calling for "192.168.1.100" - this is never
going to work over DirectAccess. It must call for a name that DirectAccess can resolve to an IPv6 address for communication over DA.
If you confirm it is talking to a name, and then if you confirm that you can do other things to that same name (can you RDP into the server for example?), then that confirms that DirectAccess traffic flow is working to that name/server.
If RDP works but the application still doesn't work, then the application is probably incapable of IPv6. You can either ask IBM if they have a newer version that does talk IPv6, otherwise I have a utility available that can intercept packets from these kinds
of problematic applications and flip the packets into IPv6 on the DA client. Let me know if you need any further information on that: http://www.ivonetworks.com/news/2013/05/ivo-networks-announces-app46-for-directaccess/

  • ERROR: ORACLE prepare error: ORA-00936: missing expression

    Hello,
I am required to run "pass-through" Oracle SQL, to extract data from tables into SAS for processing and manipulation. My code (attached) reads and writes (executes) but with zero records to test first. I cannot get past the Prepare Error.
The query is very much like other queries that seem to work, but I cannot get past this prepare error. I have no other access to individauls with adequate knowledge of PL SQL, and as a last stop hoped others in the forum could quickly spot the source of errror.
Thanks very much in advance for any assistance.

    Hello Again ,
Wish Oracle was a bit more informative. Am using a SAS Institute Product called Enterprise Guide. A "hot fix" was installed to address an issue that the product appears unable to save the latest version of edited code changes (hence " BETWEEN between" remaining even after a prior edit). In any case, with the change, am now receiving this error:
" ERROR: ORACLE prepare error: ORA-00904: "PHRMCY_CLM_FACT"."LAST_SRVC_DT": invalid identifier". (Log file appears below)
-The error remains, regardless of whether one uses "pass through" code to pass the date range to Oracle (which looks ok from the log output below I believe), or if I hard code the date range into the PL SQL query itself.
-The Prepare error always appears at end of the inner SELECT.
-The Prepare error remains, with or without the GROUP BY clause.
Is there anything else here I am missing? Someone suggested a reserve word - but from other ANSI SQL versions, I do not see that is the case. I have consulted SAS Tech Support and SAS List Serve at University of GA. but nothing definitive from these sources. Have requested facility to be able to run Oracle directly, outside this SAS Institute product - in process.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks to everyone very much.
    Jeff

  • Microsoft BI equivalent to IBM Cognos BI and ORS capabilities (evaluating)

    Hi All!
I am looking for a complete BI / ORS (Operational Reporting System) solution for our Enterprise.
Currently we are using 3 platforms for our needs:
    - ERP reporting tools (JDEdwards AS/400). ERP is NOT centralised (4 instances).
    - Crystal Reports (standalone .rpt) (Operational Reporting).
    - IBM Cognos BI (BI)
Our Enterprise Data Warehouse is built on SQL Server with SSIS. This DW feeds Cognos.
We are now preparing for ERP centralization. This means that i can no longer use Standalone Crystal Reports for ORS.
I am evaluating Microsoft solution for our ORS and ,why not, BI needs.
    Questions:
    ORS related:
    - How can Microsoft provide me with an ORS solution (Direct access to AS400 db). Only with SSRS?
    - What will be my ORS front-end? Sharepoint or just reporting services links?
    BI related:
    - What are my main BI tools (backend) in a Microsoft solution
    - I am sceptical about bi modelling in MS solution. For example, in cognos i have specialised modelling tools that help me build relational or OLAP models. How i do it in MS tools?
    Elias

    Elias,
Is this still an issue? Lots of questions here.
The only IBM connection right now for PQ is IBM DB2 database. Otherwise just SSRS for now until more data sources are added (more data sources are added monthly).
What do you mean by BI tools? You mean in addition to Power Pivot, Power View, Power Query, Power Map, DMG, the Mobile app, and capabilities like Power BI Q&A natural language search?
    Thanks!

  • How to connect Oracle 10g from OBIEE on Linux?

    - OBIEE 10.1.3.4.0 is running on Cent 5 Linux M1 (*64* bit). My Oracle database is running another similar machine M2.
    - I installed oracle 64 bit client on M1 but could not connect to run the report, connection issue. Even nqcmd didn't helped.
    - I guess it was because OBIEE is *32* bit application and hence need 32 bit client.
    - I tried installing Oracle 32 bit Linux client on M1 but installation fails with some dependency (Not sure if we can install 32 bit client on 64 bit machine)
Q1 - Any suggestion at this point?
Q2 - Is there any way we could connect OBIEE to Oracle via ODBC drivers. I could not found any odbc driver/so file when I wan installed 64 bit client. Any suggestion for this?
    Thanks in Advance!

thanksOracle Forms is best used against an Oracle database... so why on Earth would you want to use it against SQL Server?
Aside from that, Oracle Forms is old technology... you'd be better using Oracle Application Express (Apex) for producing web based apps.
If you must do things against an SQL Server database, you would need to set up heterogenous services connectivity (HS) and treat the SQL Server database as an external database.

  • Is there driver to connect Oracle directly to Universe database

    Hi
We have a universe database,so we are looking for some kind of oracle driver or tool which can extract the data directly into oracle tables.
So, do we have kind of tools in the market?
    Please advice...

You're going to have to clarify exactly which database you're connecting to. My wager would be that you're trying to connect to an IBM DB2 Universal Database, but there are multiple other things that might be called a "universe database". Lots of BI tools, for example, use the term "universe", for example.
Assuming you're trying to connect to an IBM DB2 Universal Database, the Oracle Transparent Gateway for IBM DRDA would be the transparent gateway to investigate. Depending on the complexity of the integration, you may be able to use Generic Connectivity instead, which may be less expensive (you'd have to purchase an appropriate ODBC driver but would not have to purchase the transparent gateway).

  • How to connect weblogic 8.1 to IBM MQ Series from remote machines?

    Hi,
I am trying to connect WebLogic 8.1 to IBM MQ Series 6.0 both are running in a seperate machines. Can we do using JNDI services? Can anyone help me to fix this issue?

I'm cutting/pasting my notes on the topic, including MQ specific notes. Start with the Integrating Remote JMS Providers FAQ (link below). You can also search this newsgroup for answers.
              Tom
JMS Integration of Foreign Vendors with BEA WebLogic Server
The following notes are derived mostly from "http://dev2dev.bea.com/technologies/jms/index.jsp".
For additional questions, a good forum for WebLogic questions in general is "newsgroups.bea.com". These can be mined for information by using Google's newsgroup search function.
              JMS Integration Overview
              - For integration with "non-Java" and/or "non-JMS" platforms, see "Non-Java Integration Options" below.
              - For a foreign JMS vendor to participate in a WL transaction it must support XA. Specifically, it must support the javax.jms.XA* interfaces.
              - In WL versions 6.0 and up it is possible to make synchronous calls to foreign JMS vendors participate in a WL transaction as long as the foreign vendor supports XA.
              - WL 6.0 and 6.1 MDBs can be driven by foreign vendors non-transactionally. They can be driven transactionally by a select few foreign vendors (MQ is not part of the select few)
              - WL 7.0 and later, MDBs can be driven by foreign vendors transactionally and non-transationally.
              - WL 6.1 and later WL provides a messaging bridge feature. Messaging bridges forward messages between any two JMS destinations, including foreign destinations, and can transfer messages transactionally or non-transactionally.
              - WL 8.1 JMS provides additional features that simplify transactional and JNDI integration of foreign vendors. See http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs81/jms/intro.html#jms_features and http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs81/faq/interop.html
              Integration with 8.1 Details
To start, first read the "Integrating Remote JMS Providers FAQ" (released in Dec 2004) at:
              http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs81/faq/interop.html
A good overview of 8.1 JMS interop capability is the presentation "Integrating Foreign JMS Providers with BEA WebLogic Server" here:
              http://www.bea.com/content/files/eworld/presentations/Wed_03_05_03/Application_Servers/1097-Foreign_JMS_Providers_WLS.pdf
This document refers to helpful new 8.1 features, which simplify integration. These include:
              http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs81/ConsoleHelp/jms_config.html#accessing_foreign_providers
              http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs81/jms/j2ee_components.html#1033768
And are also summarized here (under interoperability):
              http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs81/jms/intro.html#jms_features
Also read the MDB documentation, which extensively covers integrating foreign vendors:
              http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs81/ejb/message_beans.html
The 8.1 features are likely sufficient for most 8.1 integration needs, but you may want to refer to the "Using Foreign JMS Providers With WLS" white-paper mentioned below, which is 7.0 specific but contains specific examples of configuring non-WebLogic JMS vendors. See also notes on "MQ" below.
Integration with 6.1 and 7.0 Details
Read the "Using Foreign JMS Providers With WLS" white-paper:
              http://dev2dev.bea.com/products/wlserver/whitepapers/jmsproviders.jsp
Note that this white-paper does not take into account 8.1 features.
For 7.0 read the extensive 8.1 MDB documentation, which largely also applies to 7.0:
              http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs81/ejb/message_beans.html
              Non-Java Integration Options
              - WL JMS has a JNI based C client which is available for Windows and some UNIX platforms. This C client supports 7.0 and up, and will be officially packaged with WLS in 9.0 (virtually unchanged). The C API is currently only supported through the jms newsgroup. See "JMS C API", here:
              http://dev2dev.bea.com/technologies/jms/index.jsp
              - WL supports direct Windows COM access through its "JCOM" feature. This doesn't include the JMS API, but one can invoke EJBs which in turn invoke JMS. See
              http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs61/jcom.html
              http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs70/jcom/
              http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs81/jcom/
              - Similar to JCOM, but more advanced and supported on more platforms, WL supports access via the standard IIOP protocol. You can use the BEA Tuxedo C client for this purpose (no license fee). This doesn't include the JMS API, but one can invoke EJBs which in turn invoke JMS. See
              http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs81/rmi_iiop/
              http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs70/rmi_iiop/
              http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs61/rmi_iiop/
Unlike most other approaches, the IIOP client approach also allows the client to begin and commit user (JTA) transactions (not configured).
              - If you already have a BEA Tuxedo license, one option is communicate through BEA Tuxedo (which has various APIs on Windows) and configure a WebLogic Server to respond to these requests via the WTC bridge. Search for "WTC" in the BEA docs. Unlike most other approaches, the Tuxedo API approach also allows the client to begin and commit user (JTA) transactions.
              - Another approach is to interop via web-service standards. Or even to simply to invoke a servlet on the WL server using a basic HTTP call from the client. These operation in turn can invoke the JMS API. There is a white-paper on "Interoperability Study of BEA WebLogic Workshop 8.1 and Microsoft .NET 1.1 Web Services", that demonstrates web-services here:
              http://ftpna2.bea.com/pub/downloads/WebLogic-DotNet-Interop.pdf
              - Yet another approach is to use a third party product that is designed to wrap any JMS vendor. There are even open source versions. In no particular order, here are some examples: Open3 WinJMS, CodeMesh, Active JMS, SpiritSoft
              - Finally, there are .NET/C/C++ integration libraries that are not specific to JMS, some examples are JNBridge, Jace, and CodeMesh.
Notes on MQ Remote Capable XA Clients
Until recently, IBM MQ JMS clients could not work transactionally unless they were running on the same host as their MQ server. This is a limitation unique to MQ that was relaxed with the introduction of IBM's new "WebSphere MQ Extended Transactional Client". See:
              http://publibfp.boulder.ibm.com/epubs/pdf/csqzar00.pdf
The product is new, and for some reason, configuration of this client seems to be tricky, even when WebLogic is not involved at all. Oddly, the main sticking point seems to be simply making sure that class paths refer to the required IBM jars:
              - Required on WLS where MQ objects are bound into JNDI:
              com.ibm.mq.jar, com.ibm.mqjms.jar
              - Required only if MQ objects are bound into JNDI on a different server:
              com.ibm.mq.jar
If there are problems when using this client, first get it to work using a pure IBM client without any BEA classes involved. Once that is working, search the WL JMS newsgroup for answers and/or contact BEA customer support.
              Notes on Oracle AQ Integration
If problems are encountered integrating Oracle's built-in queuing (Oracle AQ) JMS client, there is publicly available wrapper code that can aid integrating AQ directly into MDBs, JMS, or the messaging bridge. The solution is titled "Startup class to bind AQ/Referenceable objects to WLS JNDI", is not supported by BEA, and is posted to:
              http://dev2dev.bea.com/codelibrary/code/startupclass.jsp (older version)
              http://xa-compliant-oracleaq.projects.dev2dev.bea.com (newer version)
              Caveats:
It may be that the solution doesn't directly support concurrent consumers. Perhaps Oracle requires that concurrent consumers each have a unique JMS connection? As a work-around, parallel message processing can be achieved indirectly by forwarding AQ messages into a WL JMS destination - which do support concurrent processing.
Up-to-date versions of Oracle may be required. For more information, google search the weblogic.developer.interest.jms newsgroup for "Oracle" and "AQ".
              MDB Thread Pool Notes
WL7.0SP? and WL8.1 and later support the "dispatch-policy" field to specify which thread pool an MDB uses to run its instances. In most cases this field should be configured to help address potential performance issues and/or dead-locks:
              http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs81/ejb/DDreference-ejb-jar.html#dispatch-policy
(Note that "dispatch-policy" is ignored for non-transactional foreign vendors; in this case, the MDB "onMessage" callback runs in the foreign vendor's thread.)
              MDB Concurrency Notes
Queue MDBs driven by foreign providers can run multiple instances concurrently. Topic MDBs driven by foreign providers are limited to one instance (not sure, but transactional foreign driven topic MDBs may not have this limitation). The size of the thread pool that the MDB runs in and the "max-beans-in-free-pool" descriptor limit how many instances run concurrently.
Design Guide-Lines and Performance Tuning Notes
The "WebLogic JMS Performance Guide" white-paper contains detailed design, performance, and tuning information for Clustering, Messaging Bridge, JMS, and MDBs.

  • How connect Oracle with AS400?

    Hi!
I don´t know how i can connect oracle with AS400 , what I need for make the connection?

    Hi,
    You have 3 options:
    - Oracle Transparant Gateway for DRDA
This product is available for Windows, Linux, AIX, HP-UX PA-RISC and Solaris SPARC
It uses the IBM DRDA protocol (over TCP/IP) to establish a connection with DB2400
    - Oracle Transparant Gateway for DB2/400
This product needs to be installed on the AS/400
    - Generic Connectivity (aka HSODBC)
This is a default Oracle Database feature that is available for Windows, Linux x86,
AIX, HP-UX PA RISC and Solaris Sparc.
In addition it requires a suitable ODBC-Driver (32-bit) that is able to connect to
         DB2/400
The gateways require additional license from Oracle, while HSODBC requires additional license for a third party ODBC vendor. Furthermore do gateways support the two phase commit protocol and calling DB2/400 stored procedures.
