Connecting through RADIUS to install arch??

hi everyone!
i have one problem. i want to install arch linux, but since i live in student home, the network is supervised and controlled with kerio control firewall/AAA. each time i want to access internet i need to enter the username and password before i can access to the first page, and the session itself ends automatically if there's no traffic for some period of time, i guess 15 or 30 minutes. is there a way to enter these credentials while in bash? if not, could i somehow share the internet via usb cable from my ipad so i can login there?

will try that, thank you oh well.. i can't complain about anything except the local network and internet service of the facility, which is really badly designed

  • Installing an application (adium x 0.89/msn) + connecting through proxy

    hi all. most .dmg files will mount and tell u to drag the .app icon into 'applications folder'
    may i ask, what is the difference if u drag it into MACINTOSH HDD->APPLICATIONS folder, vs dragging it into /user/applications.
    apparently it had an observable effect on my installing of Adium X 0.89 (i use this for msn and i will elaborate why)
    previously when i dragged adium.app into macintosh hdd/applications, the default folder, i experienced several problems. i could not initiate messages to my contacts, it would display an error message of "Could not send; a connection error occurred." however when others msged me (if i get them, that is), i can reply to them, if im fast enough. if say i don't reply within 1/2min, then any msg i type to them will be so-called counted as a new msg, and i cant initiate it again! the same error msg surfaces.
    i checked my connection settings and it's ok. i uninstalled adium.app (search adium on spotlight and deleted everything that had adium), plus emptied trash. then i took a new move in installing in /user/applications folder and it worked fine!
    until now. it crashed all of a sudden for no reason. i uninstalled it again. installed it again in /user/applications folder, and it has the prev problem of not being able to initiate converesations again! (how frustrating!)
    why don't i just use microsoft messenger for mac 5.1 then? you might ask..
    very good question. i want to use that too. but i can't! see, i'm staying at halls, at Monash Uni, Australia. we connect through our uni's http proxy + port. for msn 5.0, i cant enter my username/password (as the textfields are grayed out). for adium, i can enter them. on contacting msn, they told me my msn is corrupt, i shd uninstall it completely and reinstall it with a version i get from them, not other sources. i did that, and still can't. i have a strong feeling it is a problem defunct, they have yet to make it compatible to mac users who want to connect through HTTP PROXY (not socks 5.0) and have to enter their username/password to enter this proxy.
    pls enlighten on the above issues, and hopefully provide a solution.

    oh come on im sure someone knows sth abt this...

  • Installing Arch on PC without Internet Connection/Slow Connection

    Arch Linux requires a fairly good internet connection to set up. How can one install it on machines which don't have any internet connectivity? Is there any way to make a DVD of Arch on a computer connected to internet and having Arch setup(DE,Media Players,Codecs etc) which can then be used on machines without internet connections This would come useful for me to install at my friends place. Does anyone even has a remote solution on this?

    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Of … f_Packages
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Lo … ory_HOW-TO
    and, of course:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners%27_Guide
    You could also install on a computer with a connection, then use something like Clonezilla to deploy it.

  • Can I install Arch Linux without Internet connection ?

    It sounds noobish but my friends like to know if they can install Arch Linux without Internet connection ?

    mcmillan wrote:
    The core iso should be all you need, just boot off that to start the installation. It's been a while since I did an install, but somewhere along the way it gives you an option to install off the cd or do a net install. You just need to choose the cd installation.
    That being said, all you'll have without internet will be what's on the cd, so you'll be left with a pretty minimal install. If you want to update and install additional software then you'll either need to get the computer temporarily  connected, or download the packages on a different computer and transfer them.
    I am looking to do something similar. I have the core system installed on an older laptop, but I cannot get the wireless working (it has no ethernet). I've tried downloading the libgl packagesfrom a mirror to a thumbdrive, but it's a dependency nightmare. Is there a better way to do this?

  • Getting Creative Zen player to connect through amarok [SOLVED]

    Edited 12-27 to include new info
    I'm trying to get myCreative Zen player to connect through amarok but am having some problems. After some looking around I figured out the libmtp in the extra repository doesn't support this player, but the newest versions do. I made a new package for libmtp-0.2.4 and installed it since there's been some tweaks that affect this player since 0.2.2 which is in testing. I also had to recompile amarok since one of libs changed a name with the new libmtp. The instructions from libmtp mentioned udev rules needed to be defined, which was done by copying a file from the source code into /etc/udev/rules.d. That file (minus the parts relating to other players, which is pretty much the same as here):
    # UDEV-style hotplug map for libmtp
    # Put this file in /etc/udev/rules.d
    ACTION!="add", GOTO="libmtp_rules_end"
    ATTR{dev}!="?*", GOTO="libmtp_rules_end"
    SUBSYSTEM=="usb", GOTO="libmtp_usb_rules"
    # The following thing will be deprecated when older kernels are phased out.
    SUBSYSTEM=="usb_device", GOTO="libmtp_usb_device_rules"
    GOTO="libmtp_rules_end"
    LABEL="libmtp_usb_rules"
    # Creative ZEN 8GB
    ATTR{idVendor}=="041e", ATTR{idProduct}=="4157", SYMLINK+="libmtp-%k", MODE="666"
    GOTO="libmtp_rules_end"
    LABEL="libmtp_usb_device_rules"
    # Creative ZEN 8GB
    ATTRS{idVendor}=="041e", ATTRS{idProduct}=="4157", SYMLINK+="libmtp-%k", MODE="666"
    GOTO="libmtp_rules_end"
    LABEL="libmtp_rules_end"
    When I plug the player to my usb port dmesg gives
    usb 5-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 8
    usb 5-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
    As my normal user amarok doesn't seem to recognize anything, and mtp-detect gives:
    libmtp version: 0.2.4
    Attempting to connect device(s)
    usb_claim_interface(): Operation not permitted
    LIBMTP PANIC: Unable to initialize device 1
    LIBMTP PANIC: configure_usb_devices() error code: 7 on line 1561
    Detect: There has been an error connecting. Exiting
    As root mtp-detect gives me a bunch of output that seems like it's doing what it should, also while it's spitting this out the screen on the player changes to say it's docked, which wasn't happening as the normal user. This makes me think it's some permissions issue. I did find things from google telling me that sometimes the user needs to be added to a certain group to use libmtp, though it seemed somewhat distro dependent. My main user is in the following groups: dbus hal network audio optical storage scanner camera users thinkpad
    However I don't think my problems are solely permission related, since even as root amarok won't recognize the player. I can use gnomad2 as root, which mostly works, though it crashes when I try and close gnomad after adding music and the player thinks it's still docked even after unplugging it. I had to use a pin to reset it just to turn it off. When I ran it from a console I got the following output at the end after the crash
    PTP: Closing session
    ERROR: Could not close session!
    inep: usb_get_endpoint_status(): Protocol error
    outep: usb_get_endpoint_status(): No such device
    usb_clear_halt() on IN endpoint: No such device

    The application 'gnomad2' lost its connection to the display :0.0;

    the application.
    Any suggestions for where to go from here?

    I tried uploading onto my school website, but it doesn't seem accessable from there. However I just modified the version number from the regular Pkgbuild file from abs. What I have is:
    # $Id: PKGBUILD,v 1.8 2007/05/20 19:11:05 travis Exp $

    cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver
    ./configure --prefix=/usr
    make || return 1
    make DESTDIR=$startdir/pkg install
    If you still have trouble building it let me know some other way than that I can send you the package.
    I've been meaning to post an update about my issues. I've figured out that when I connect the player it creates device nodes with the root group.  Some have permissions set to 666, which seems to fit with the udev rules I posted. But some of them are only rw for owner and group, others only have read permissions. As a test I tried changing the permissions by hand to 666, and I can use gnomad as my regular user, though it's buggy and seems to crash randomly (not just when I transfer files like I originally thought). I haven't been able to test what amarok does, since for some reason it stopped working this weekend and I haven't had a chance to figure out what happened. It seems there some problem with the udev rules, but I don't know much about how that works to figure out what's going wrong.

  • [SOLVED] can't build an AUR package while installing Arch

    So I am nearly there installing Arch for the first time. And I will start with saying that I am really sorry if I missed the answer to my problem but I have had a look around the documentation and the general webz for something regarding this problem and haven't found anything.
    I am trying to set my wireless connection up but I apparently need the AUR b43-firmware package installed for my Broadcom BCM4322 [14e4:432b] to be functional.
    So I follow the documentation to install an AUR package, but I am stuck at the building stage as makepkg does not allow me to build if I am root, and I am root by default while installing/configuring Arch...
    What should I do to build and install that package so I have a wireless connection later on?
    Cheers

    I am connected to the wired network, and I followed the steps to make it persistent for later, but I just wanted to go through the wireless stuff too to be extra sure I will be able to connect to the Internet later on. As it is the first time I install Arch, I am trying to be extra cautious, and having that security would make me feel more comfortable! Plus, I am keen to learn how to do those things from the command line.
    Isn't there a way to switch to a normal user just for a command, and automatically reverting back to root when that action is finished? Just like sudo but the other way round

  • Installing Arch without a CD Drive Or Bootable USB

    Hello I have a "legacy" PC that I would like to install Arch on. I would like to know if it is possible to "Mount" the .iso over my home network that is assigned through static IPs and an ethernet switch.
    Then after this would I then be able to share my connection that an XP box on my network is receiving through a Wireless NIC? I looked into network bridging but I have hit a lot of dead ends and sort of gave up on it.
    The first question is not all that vital I could just put a CD Drive in it but I want to do it out of curiosity and a little project. The second is sort of Vital as I could then send intranet to my other PC's and install Arch. Thanks for all your help and my previous experience with Arch has been nothing short of amazing.

    I used PXE to load arch onto an old toshiba portege, worked a charm and it's not as long winded or difficult as it looks
    Good Luck.

  • Installing Arch in a VirtualBox Machine

    Dear all,
    I'd like to give Arch a try installing it on a VirtualBox Machine in Ubuntu 12.04 (64 bit)
    I followed the instructions in the Beginners Guide
    but my installation failed (after rebooting you can't go past grub).
    I would like to make a second attempt, but this time I would like to have a clarification first (just to be sure)
    In section 2.3 it is shown how to configure VirtualBox and certain packages to install are listed.
    I figured that since the instructions used pacman, I had to install these packages during the installation, i.e. they have to be installed
    IN VirtualBox, rather than in the system on which VirtualBox is installed (in my case Ubuntu). Is this correct?
    I hope I will manage to get through the installation this time (it doesn't seem too complicated, but I can't understand why my installation failed).
    Thanks in advance for your help,
    Cheers, Luca

    It doesn't matter what your host OS is (Ubuntu, Windows 98, etc). If you follow the Beginners' Guide, the instructions are for installing Arch Linux. It doesn't matter if you're installing on a real machine or on a virtual machine. The process is the same. For VirtualBox in particular (doesn't apply to WMware or QEMU), there's the Guest Additions package, which will get you shared clipboard among other goodies. But that comes in much later. Like I said, the installation is exactly the same - appart maybe from establishing an internet connection, because dhcpcd is ran automatically.
    It doesn't go passed GRUB probably because you forgot to generate a grub.cfg, or you used "/dev/sda1" instead of "/dev/sda". Or you used GPT instead of MBR and didn't create an empty 2 MiB partition (Syslinux doesn't need one).

  • Install Arch on five clients using ssh?

    Hi all,
    We are trying to install arch on five machines using ssh for our clusters lessons, using VirtualBox. We have arch installed on a machine called "Master" and from this we are using PXE server to load Arch (core) iso on the clients. PXE runs fine but for our purpose we have some troubles.
    First of all, we need to boot arch directly, without "Options screen" (screen where you can choose between Load arch, load another OS, reboot, etc...), we NEED to boot arch without user intervention. Then, we need to run up ssh server automatically (maybe parsing any option on PXE config file). And the last issue is to login on client machine as root.
    If we run sshd and allow to connect giving permissions on /etc/hosts.allow file and then try to login on client from Master as root, we can't do this because root has no password but ssh requieres it, this is a problem.
    In short, we need at least to solve this problems:
    * Load arch image directly, skipping load screen.
    * Run sshd on startup and allow access
    * Be able to login as root from our "Master" machine
    Any idea of that? We are thinking about to make an image of our Master machine and use it to offer with PXE, but I think this is a bad idea because client machines has not partitions and our fstab file will try to mount filesystems and this is a problem.
    Thanks for your help, god will be grateful for it and kill no more kittys and sorry for the brick!

    OK after my 4th attempt, i got it

    /dev/sda4 36747 61438 198331055 83 Linux
    So, I had Ubuntu running on sda4 (ext4).
    What I did
    1. Installed rEFIT on Mac OS X, and after two reboots it showed up.
    2. In the rEFIT menu, Synchronized with the Partition tool my MBR and GPT table.
    3. Opened Gparted on an ubuntu live cd, in order to format my ext4 partition
    4. Installed Arch using the normal installation procedure, but I skipped the partitioning section, I did only the file system mountpoints step, selecting my sda4 partition.
    5. Installed grub (not grub2) on /dev/sda, the mbr (not /dev/sda4), and activated the windows section in menu.lst
    6. After reboot, I selected from rEFIT the Windows logo (linux logo doesn't work), through the windows logo i get in the standard grub menu, where I can select Windows or Arch!
    Now I'll remove rEFIT and boot trough normal mac os x's bootcamp tool. (if you select windows you get in the grub menu)
    Hope this helps someone!

  • No network connection as user in guest Arch

    I couldn't stay without Arch, so I installed Arch as a guest in Virtual box on a Windows XP host (work machine). Everything went well with the installation.
    However once the installation was complete, I couldn't connect to the network. I knew this would be a problem because I am behind a proxy at work. I added the appropriate http_proxy and ftp_proxy environment variables and I could now connect and update my system.
    My only problem is that this works only for root. As user, I cannot use pacman to install anything.
    [inxs@archbox ~]$ sudo pacman -S i3-wm
    resolving dependencies....
    and it just sits there until it gets a Connection timed out error.
    However, if I su to root then
    [inxs@archbox ~]$su
    Password:
    [root@archbox inxs]$ pacman -S i3-wm
    works and I can install anything from the repos.
    Even a simple wget command gives me this :
    wget http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/biosdisk-git/biosdisk-git/PKGBUILD

    What should I do to make my user also be able to download and install packages?

    it now allows me to use pacman to get the packages from the official repos. But I still cannot use any aur helper to get packages from the Official Repositories. This is what I mean :

    Now I can install the dependencies manually using the pacman command directly and then re-trying to install wmfs-git and it will work, but how come it works when I issue a direct pacman command but does not through aurget?
    Any pointers?
    EDIT: Spoke too soon. installing wmfs-git just doesn't work. I am assuming this is because git tries to make a connection again to the git repo and it doesn't read the http_proxy variables
    Is there any way I can install things. How do I make git or svn to see my environment variables?? Would they use libproxy??
    I am going to try that out and see.

  • Can't install arch

    I have been using Arch Linux for about 8 months now and I love it.  The problem is that I can't upgrade to .7 using the beta CD.  Here's the scoop.  I purchased a pcHDTV HD3000 TV card (www.pchdtv.com) for Linux.  I was hoping I could use it with Arch, but then found that it's only supported on fedora and soon suse and gentoo.  So I reluctantly installed fedora - which I disliked very much.  Then I went to gentoo - which was too long of an install process.  When I went to try suse, I couldn't get my usb keyboard and mouse to stay on through the install process.  So after a little frustration I went back to Arch.  Unfortunately, the install CD stops when it tries to see the USB keyboard and mouse.  It says
    Attempting to load USB HID Support...
    Here's the strange thing.  I do have keyboard control when the cd is first running.  Then when it gets the the message above, I lose it and my only option is to reboot.  This also happens with the Arch live cd when it asks if I want to use the thumb drive.  Only in that case, my usb keyboard and mouse are lit up, but it won't accept any input from them.
    I have an MSI 6827-110 Neo2 P series motherboard with a P4 3.2 ghz processor and 1 gig of RAM (all needed for HDTV).  I did find that there is a kernel for the HDTV card and that I may be able to use Arch Linux after all     So I would really like to know if anyone else is having this problem and if so, how to correct it by still using USB input devices.
    I should also mention that in my bios, the usb controllers are enabled and I have legacy support for all usb devices enabled (I could select ALL|Keyboard+Mouse|Disabled).
    Other then that, a Knoppix live CD does work.  Windows XP (I hate to say it) does work.  It's just the gentoo live cd, Arch live cd, and the Arch install cd (I did get the Suse CD to work, but cancelled because I really wanted to go back and install Arch) that did not work.
    Thanks for any help.

    Well, I dowloaded the .7 beta1 and I still can't get past the
    attempting to load USB HID support...
    portion of the install.  So I disconnected my USB keyboard and mouse and connected a PS/2 keyboard.  Again, it stopped at the same output line.  So I inserted the Arch live CD again, and again, it locks up at the point where it asks if you want to use the thumb drive.  So I put in the Knoppix live CD and it booted fine.
    At this point, I am lost.  I have never had a problem like this before, suspecting that my USB hardware is malfunctioning only to have another distros live CD run flawlessly.  The fact that the Installs won't work with the PS/2 keyboard is frustrating as well.
    ...Just tried updating my bios thinking that would fix the problems - no luck.  Any ideas?  I cannot install Arch on this system no matter what I do!  I am no longer fond of MSI motherboards.

  • Remote Access VPN authentication through RADIUS

    Hi,
    I have configured remote access VPN (IPsec) in my Cisco ASA . Before there was only single username & password to for VPN client. Now I am planning to give access through RADIUS server. I have configured RADIUS server in WIN 2003 server.
    Server configuration:
    1) Administrative Tools > Internet Authentication Service and right-click on RADIUS Client to add a new RADIUS client with ip address of CISCO ASA (inside interface).
    2) Remote Access Policies, right-click on Connections to Other Access Servers, and select Properties.
    3) check Grant Remote Access Permissions is selected.Click Edit Profile and check these settings:On the Authentication tab, check Unencrypted authentication (PAP, SPAP), MS-CHAP,and MS-CHAP-v2.On the Encryption tab, ensure that the option for No Encryption is selected.Click OK when you are finished.
    4.Select Administrative Tools > Computer Management > System Tools > Local Users and Groups, right-click on Users and select New Users to add a user into the local computer account.Add a user and check this profile information:On the General tab, ensure that the option for Password Never Expired is selected instead ofthe option for User Must Change Password.
    On the Dial-in tab, select the option for Allow access
    ASA configuration:
    aaa-server vpn protocol radius
    aaa-server vpn host 10.155.20.25 (RADIUS server IP )
    key cisco321
    tunnel-group vpnacc type ipsec-ra
    tunnel-group vpnacc general-attributes
    authentication-server-group vpn
    but it is not working. Please guide to resolve this issue.
    Regards,
    som

    Also, take a look at your logs on the windows server, and try debugging the asa. Try running wireshark or network monitor on the windows server to see if the requests are coming in. You should be able to figure out pretty quickly what is going on by debugging aaa on the asa and/or checking the logs on the server. Make sure the service is running on the windows box. Make sure that something stupid like windows firewall isnt blocking the connection. You can turn on debugging by typing "debug aaa" and type "logging console debugging" and "term mon". You can test aaa by typing "test aaa-server authentication vpn host x.x.x.x username someusername password somepassword"
    Hopefully this will lead you in the right direction. Oh, one more thing, when you are done, don't forget to turn off the debug by typing "undebug all". Another word of warning, running debugs on a production firewall should be done at your own risk, it is very easy to overwhelm a device to the point it stops responding by running debugs.

    im having troubles using Airplay on my mac.. i connect my mac to the internet and home network using an ethernet connection to my router (non apple branded router) .. my apple tv 2  is connected to my home wifi network from the same router.. when i first set up my apple tv.. i was able to see the Airplay icon on itunes and it would let me Airplay media from my mac to my apple tv.. however.. it disconnects after a little while.. same thing with viewing my itunes library from apple tv.. i was able to detect my shared library from the apple tv.. i was able to play some media but then it disconnected after some time.. but now.. the Airplay icon doesnt show up in itunes anymore.. and i cant see my shared library from my apple tv neither.. ive looked around for a solution and followed the tip to turn the ipv6 off.. it worked for some time but now the problem is back..
    i know the obvious solution is to connect my mac to the same wireless network as my apple tv.. but i would like to keep it connected through ethernet..
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4
    Apple TV 2 software version 4.4.4
    Thanks in advance

    I wouldn't say that was the obvious answer at all, my Mac is connected by ethernet and 6 of my 7 Apple TV's are connected by wifi, I haven't had any of your problems. The problem is most likely on your network.
    Intermittent problems
    Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
    You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
    Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
    There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.
    Consistent Problems
    A frequent cause of consistent failure to enable AirPlay or HomeSharing at all, is the service being blocked on the network. Make sure your network isn't hidden, has a unique name, that MAC address authentication is disabled, security is set to use WPA 2 Personal and that there is only one router/device acting as a DHCP server and providing NAT services.
    Make sure your router/computer allows access over the following ports
    Port
    Type
    Protocol
    Used By
    80
    TCP
    HTTP
    AirPlay
    443
    TCP
    HTTPS
    AirPlay
    554
    TCP/UDP
    RTSP
    AirPlay
    3689
    TCP
    DAAP
    iTunes/AirPlay
    5297
    TCP
    Bonjour
    5289
    TCP/UDP
    Bonjour
    5353
    TCP/UDP
    MDNS
    Bonjour/AirPlay
    49159
    UDP
    MDNS (Win)
    Bonjour/AirPlay
    49163
    UDP
    MDNS (Win)
    Bonjour/AirPlay
    Refer to your router manual/manufacturer for any settings that are specific to that model.
    Another frequent cause of consistent failure to enable AirPlay or HomeSharing at all, is security software, in many cases configuring it correctly, disabling it or even uninstalling it can help, but in some cases the security software can cause problems that simply reconfiguring, disabling or uninstalling cannot reverse.
    If you are consistently unable to activate AirPlay, have tried all the steps in this article and have security software installed on your system, you might benefit from contacting its provider or participating in any online forums they run to discuss the matter with them.
