Connecting to a database over the internet

Hello ,
Ok heres an interesting question -
I would like to have an applet running on my browser which needs to connect to a central server over the internet, which in turn will need to connect to a database and query some results. These results will be stored as flat files within the server.
At the moment, I have a URL that connects to the database via the
internet and that is working. However I don't think my applet on my browser will be able to create a flat file on that server direclty.
Could some one please tell me how to go about this problem?
Shalini

Yes, put a servlet in between the applet and database. Let the servlet interace with the database on the applet's behalf and write that file on the server side.

  • Saving an Image to an Oracle Database over the Internet

    I would like to know how to transfer an image over the Internet and save that image to an Oracle Database. That is I am trying to make it so that a user can connect to the Internet and select an image file form their PC in TIFF, JPEG, or some other format. Next, I would like to save this image to an Oracle 7.3.4 Database in a LongRaw data type. This image will need to be save into a certain record in a table that I created. In the next few months we will be upgrading to Oracle 8 that uses Blob data type. Any one who knows how this can be done, please let me know.

    Yes, that's right. Here is the pertinent code:
    In the flax app:
    private function captureImg(imgEnc:IImageEncoder):void {
    var ohSnap:ImageSnapshot;ohSnap = ImageSnapshot.captureImage(img, 0, imgEnc);
    textArea.text = ImageSnapshot.encodeImageAsBase64(ohSnap);
    InsertImage(textArea.text);
    In the HTTP service AS module:
    private
    function InsertImage(sImageCoded:String):void { var sQry:String;sQry =
    "INSERT INTO image (lImageId, blbBitMap, txtImage, lRecipeId) " sQry +=
    "VALUES(0, '" +sImageCoded +"', 'text', 23)"
    //Alert.show(sQry);mysqlQuery(sQry,
    "InsertImage");}
    As mentioned previously, an HTTPrequest error is generated although I can enter
    the string into the blob manually in MySQL.

  • Replication Manager - Syncing mdb databases over the Internet

    Hai
    I am new to access replication. I have been given the task of syncing two .mdb access 2000 databases with eachother over the internet using Replication Manager 4.0. I keep getting no or little reference on how to to this and was hoping I can get a full tutorial

    I think SQL*Net uses port 1525.

  • How can I connect to multiple Macs over the internet?

    I have forwarded the ports on my Airport Extreme as follows:
    10.0.1.3 being assigned to my Mac Mini.
    I also have a MacBook Pro at home I would like access to which has the 10.0.1.4 reserved/assigned. I cannot connect to it because the port forwarding points to the Mac Mini, and it doesn't allow me to create another rule since those ports are already being used by that first entry. How do I go about having the option to connect to either one of the two computers at home when I'm at work using Apple Remote Desktop?

    it's not really a confirmed limitation of ARD, ARD is not designed to work outside of a LAN
    it's designed for system admins to manage macs remotely while on the same LAN
    but you want to use it outside of your LAN, you can by using VPN
    VPN gives you remote secure access to your LAN
    you will appear to be connected to your LAN
    so you can do most things as you would if you were actually on your LAN
    ARD does not facilitate a VPN connection
    you'd connect using a VPN connection to your LAN then start ARD, ARD will behave just as it would if you were on the LAN
    VPN client is built into OSX, system preferences, network, add choose VPN connection
    You'd need a VPN server such as OSX server on your LAN
    and configure any firewalls, routers etc to allow incoming VPN to connect to your server
    You'd also need either a fixed external IP address and external domain name or use dynamic DNS setup
    you could also try logmein

  • Reading/writing to remote database over the internet

    Hi,
    We have a hosted APEX application and have a requirement to be able to query and update our local database. I believe our options are:
    - Set up some web services locally and reference them from our hosted APEX app
    - Create a database link from the hosted instance to local instance and query/update the tables directly
    I'm looking for opinions and advice on the best (secure, reliable) way to approach this.
    Thanks,
    Andrew.

  • Can i connect to the database through the internet

    hi all
    i installed a database oracle 8i enterprise edition on a pc that exists in a town far from me . i wonder can i connect to this database through the internet from my house
    please i need a answer
    thanks in advance

    You can connect from an Oracle client to any Oracle database in the world that meets certain requirements.
    First you need an open network connection between the two points so either no firewall exists between the two stations or the firewall(s) have been configured to allow Oranet traffic. This means both databases must have access to the Internet and certain ports are open.
    Second you will need the IP address and port for the remote listener, which in turn must be up and running on the target server.
    Then you must have the Service Name or SID and a valid username/password combination for the target database. Plus the username must have create session privilege.
    That should be about it.

  • How can I connect to my Mom's machine over the internet?

    I installed ARD 3.6.1 on my laptop and was able to do a successful Intereact > Control to my Mom's machine from my machine while at her house, but when I went home to my house and tried the same thing I got the message:
    "Connection failed to Mom's Computer.  . . Please make sure that the Remote Mgmnt is enabled . . . Also make sure network connection is working properly."
    Any clues?
    Greg

    Yes you can do this, connect to another computer over the internet using ARD--if you a person who likes to sleep on a bed of nails for the fun of it, who enjoys unanesthetized body piercings. But this product is not designed for this. It's designed for using on networked computers. After spending about ten hours tryng to make it work, I was finally told by a wise Apple support guy that while such a thing is possible, grasshopper. it's really hard and impractical, and even if you get it work, it probably won't stay working. I was given a refund and told to look for a more suitable product.
    Voila, I found it! The logmein.com free product does everything I want. Everything! In less than 15 minutes.
    My beef is with the Apple ARD website. Why don't they just say at the beginning:
    Warning: Not designed to support your mother's frickin computer over the internet!
    Would've saved 10 hours of grief and two calls to Apple Support.

  • Access Time Capsules HDD over the internet!?

    Hi, I've done a search and was wondering if there is any method of connecting to Time Capsule over the Internet. There are some ways, but the setup seems pretty complicated.
    Has anyone found an easy method of doing this?
    Thanks for the Help!
    Mike

    You have to enable WAN sharing. Then you can access the drive by going to the "go" menu and "connect to server" then typing in: "apf://your external ip". Then punch in your password and you should be connected. For your PC connection you need to go to my computer, right click on it, and select map network drive and type in: "\\your external ip\your disk name". Let me know if it works.

  • JDBC MYSQL localhost vs. over the internet

    I am new to java so please take it easy on me. I have a little bit of a crisis here and want to make sure I understand what it is that I am trying to accomplish.
    I have a Java application that I want people to run from their machine that access my web server over the internet and connects to my MYSQL database. It uses webstart to download application to their machine where they run it locally. Here is how I have this setup. Is this not a standard practice? Or should I have used a different Java technology to have them run the application directly from my server using localhost instead of mywebsite?
    So, am I using java in a practical way using mywebsite.com:3306 and the user running it locally on their machine. Or do I have to set this up so they run in on my server using localhost?
    try
                   String userName = "testuser";
                   String password = "testpass";
                   String url = "jdbc:mysql://mywebsite.com:3306/test";
                   Class.forName ("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance ();
                   conn = DriverManager.getConnection (url, userName, password);
                   System.out.println ("Database connection established");
               catch (Exception e)
                   System.err.println ("Cannot connect to database server");

    Good evening, CD.
    As the others have said, you should not have your SQL server exposed to the public. If you use ACLs or similar and allow only trusted hosts to access your MySQL server, you should be fine to continue as-is (Java client connecting to TCP port 3306 of your server if I understand your explanation correctly.) If you want to convert your simple application to a server-side app, you could also use something like procrun if your server is running Windows or jsvc for UNIX/Linux. This will enable you to run your app as a service/daemon and you could configure it to listen on an arbitrary port for incoming connections and use the app as an intermediary for interfacing connecting clients with your MySQL database. This is just another idea opposed to installing and configuring Tomcat, Jetty, or the like and possibly a webserver in front of that.

  • Oracle over the Internet

    We want to publish Oracle reports on a web site. Oracle database server (8.1.5) is behind the firewall. All necessary ports have been opened in the firewall. 8.1.5 network client files have been installed on the Web server. When trying to connect to a net_service_name, the Oracle server listner.log file reports a successful connection:

    Is this a firewall issue? Does anyone have any tips for getting web publishing to work? I've noticed in other postings that Java thin client doesn't work through a firewall. Does jrew.exe referenced in log files imply that we're using Java thin client?
    Thank you.

    You can do this. If I were setting something like this up, I would want Connection Manager installed at the database site to get the connection through the firewall. I would probably want Oracle Advanced Security configured as well to ensure that the data flying over the internet was encrypted.
    Beyond that, I would do a serious security audit of the database. Make sure it's running the latest patchset, that the principle of least privilege has been followed exactly, that data modifications are done through stored procedures and packages, etc.

  • How do I access my time capsule over the internet

    How do I access my time capsule over the internet. I've already set it up to share over WAN, but I have ATT so my TC is connected to the router provided by ATT can I still access my TC via the internet even though its not directly connected to the Ethernet?

    The TC should be in bridge mode.. not setup to share over wan.. that will never work. That is assuming you haven't bridged the ATT router.
    Once you bridge the TC see if you can setup BTMM using icloud settings in the TC. As per the Apple docos.. here.
    You should also be able to directly access the TC since you have a router with dyndns client at a guess.. the setup is simply forward port 548 to the TC.
    Google search this.. there is huge number of resources available. eg

  • Can not view video over the Internet on WVC80N

    I set up the web cam, set up the port forward etc so now I am able to:
       1. view/change web cam settings inside my home network.
       2. view video inside my home network.
       3. view/change web cam settings over the Internet.
    But I am not able to view video over Internet. Every time I did so (using IE browser), after clicking the view video button, I got an error : There are too many user connections or the device is busy, please try again latter.
    Anyone has a fix on this? I set up port forwarding on port 1024 (that's how I can chage settings over Internet).
    I spent 2 hours on the phone with Linksys tech support but they could not find the reason.
    Thanks,
    Sam

    Who is your ISP? How you are trying to access your Camera from the remote location? Along with Port 1024 you need to do port forwarding for port 80 on your router for the Cameras IP address. As WVC80N works on your HTTP Port.
    To access your camera from the Remote location, you need to use http://wan ip:80.

    First, this is a forum of volunteers.  There is no "urgent" here.
    "Urgent" means one of two things -
    1) people are dying, or
    2) you have a customer-facing, revenue-producing production system that is down.
    (And to get some perspective on the second case, keep the first in mind.)
    For the first, you call whatever civil emergency service seems appropriate.
    For the second, you open an SR with Oracle - which requires a paid-up support contract. For *them* to consider your problem "urgent", you will need to demonstrate that your problem falls under item #2. I seriously doubt your problem fits that criteria.
    You don't have a support contract?  Now you know the exact dollar figure that your company places on the data.
    That said, you need to understand a few things about your specific problem,
    First, port 1521 is only used by the listener to accept a connection request.  Once it gets that request (and finds that it is for a service (sid) that it knows about, it will fork a server process and tell the requesting client that it can communicate with that server process over some other port .. a randomly chosen port number in the "high" range.  It could be your vpn is blocking that other port, whereas your internal firewall is not.
    But this is just an educated guess since I cannot find "can not connect remote oracle database over VPN" in any error message manual. If you had mentioned the VPN along with an actual oracle error message we could be much more precise in our diagnoses and recommendations.
    ---- edit 22 Sep
    It occurred to me that I just assumed you were using the same client machine in both cases ... a laptop that you use both at work (local network) and home (vpn).  If that assumption is false, there are probably problems with your tns setup on the home (vpn) machine.
    But again, it would be much easier to help if you gave us an actual error message.
