Connecting to an Oracle 9i DB using PHP?

Hi,
I'm having difficulties connecting to an Oracle 9i database using PHP.
I've set up an ODBC data source called "connOracle", which when I test it is successful.
I've also installed php componenents and am able to run basic php files using basic php commands through my IIS web server.
I've look through various tutorials but can't seem to successfully connect to an oracle databse.
Can anyone help me out with the scripting and provide any advice on where I can look.
Thanks in advance,
Nick

  • Connect to an Oracle database by using oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver: error

    Hi,
    I'm trying to connect to an Oracle database so we can retrieve notes of tables, views and packages.
    By using the API of Data Modeler (transformation script) we want to add these notes to corresponding objects in Data Modeler.
    I'm starting with this:
    importPackage(java.lang);
    importPackage(java.awt);
    importPackage(java.sql);
    java.lang.Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver");
    An error occurs when I run this code:
    It has to be a Java thing...
    Anyone a suggestion?

    Problem solved! One of my colleagues referred to this post: Import user defined properties from Oracle Designer
    More in detail: it's about this couple of lines:
    // Copy the ojdbc6.jar file to ..\datamodeler-home\jlib directory
    // Add this line to datamodeler.conf
    //      AddJavaLibFile  ../../jlib/ojdbc6.jar
    I changed my datamodeler.conf file, restarted DM and now there's no longer an error when I am trying to use the Oracle JDBC drive.

  • How can I connect to an oracle database remotely using telnet in DIAdem?

    I need to query an oracle database on a remote server and store the result back in DIAdem. Does anyone know how to telnet through diadem and return the result?

    DIAdem provides you with tools to connect to databases using SQL. Specifically, you can use SQL_Connect to open a connection to a database through a DSN (Data Source Name). The DSN has to be configured on the local machine (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools - > Data Sources) and has to point to the remote Database. You can map a network drive in the local machine so you can browse to your remote Database. The DSN will provide the link between DIAdem and the remote Database.
    If your communication has to be throught telnet, then I suggest you try to use an ActiveX control. VBScript doesn't support Telnet natively, but it does support ActiveX controls. You can create one from Visual Basic or try to find a telnet client that has one already.

    Hi Guys,
    Please I am working on a BI Project that requires me to connect to an oracle data source using SSIS.
    Can someone assist me with the required steps to achieve that.

    Hi lilutchay,
    If the SQL Server Integration Services is Enterprise or Developer edition of SQL Server 2008, we can use
    Microsoft Connector Version 1.2 for Oracle to connect Oracle databases with version Oracle 9.2.0.4 or higher, Oracle 10.x or Oracle 11.x. If the SQL Server Integration Services is Enterprise or Developer edition of SQL Server 2012, we can use
    Microsoft Connector Version 2.0 for Oracle to connect Oracle databases with version Oracle 9.2.0.4 or higher, Oracle 10.x or Oracle 11.x.
    While if we want to connect to other Oracle version databases, we can use
    OLE DB provider for Oracle which has been tested in SSIS labs and is recommended by Microsoft.
    For the detail steps for Microsoft Connector for Oracle, we can refer to the first blog suggested by Deric. For more details about the use of connecting to oracle using Oracle Provider for OLEDB from SSIS, please refer to the blog below:

    Find the hostname and service name of the database and use those values in the ORA_CON_DB constant.
    Use 'lsnrctl status' on the database host to find the service name.
    If you use a "tns" alias, you may need to create a tnsnames.ora file where PHP can access it.
    Set the environment variable TNS_ADMIN (on Linux) to the directory containing the file.

  • Can select, but cannot insert into oracle tables using php.

    I am having trouble inserting data into a tables in oracle using PHP. I can insert into the tables using baninst1, but nothing else. I can't even insert using the tables' owner. Every time I try I get the ORA-00492 error of table or view does not exist. However, I can run a select statement just fine. So far, baninst1 is the only user that can actually do inserts. I've triple checked all the table grants and everything is fine. Also, I can copy/paste the exact insert statement into SQL*Plus and it works with the correct user. It doesn't have to be baninst1. I've tried everything I can think of. I've tried putting the table name in quotes, adding the schema name to the table, checking public synonyms, but everything appears to be ok. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions others may have.
    I'm using PHP 5.2.3 with an oracle 9i DB.

    Here is the code that doesn't work. It works only with baninst1, no other username will work and all I do is change the my_username/my_password to something different. This is one example function where I try to do an insert, but it doesn't work on any of the tables I try.

    1. in physical connections part can i use the same work schema
    2. Can i use same contexts created or do i need to create everything as new and then try?
    Thanks,
    Rp.
    Hi,
    As you mentioned that you just upgraded the database, so the data is same and schema is same you can connect with the same work schema.
    Yes, you can use the same contexts , but need to do Reverse Engineering for your new database.
    And about data server, i think you also have no need to create new data server, if hostname,sid and port etc are same as these were with R11(consult with your DBAs regarding it)

  • Connecting to an Oracle database using ASP

    Hi
    I am having problems connecting to an Oracle database using ASP. I am trying to do this for a school project the school's database server is running Oracle 9i. The repository is version 6. The web server I have access to only has ASP not ASP.net. What kind of connection string would I need to be able to connect to the database?

    You do need to ensure that the Oracle client and Oracle server are compatible, but that is generally pretty easy to accomplish. Unless you are trying to cross more than one major release (i.e. 9.2 client to a 7.3.4 database), you're pretty safe there.
    You could try downloading and installing the latest 8.1.7.x Oracle ODBC driver from OTN on the machine with the 8.1.7 Oracle client (I believe the last ODBC patchset was 8.1.7.10), but I don't have particular confidence that that will solve the problem. If it doesn't, we can do an ODBC trace to focus in on the issue, but installing a new driver is a much easier process, so that probably ought to be the first step.

    I definitely do not know much about JSP but
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/htdocs/jdbc_faq.html
    indicates
    <quote>
    This URL connects to the same database using the the OCI driver and the SID inst1 without specifying the username or password.
    jdbc:oracle:oci:@myhost:1521:inst1
    <quote>
    I do not see the port information in your connect string. Is that an issue?

  • ORA-12504 error when connecting to Oracle 11G DB using OCI and instantclient-basic-nt-11.2.0.3.0.zip

    Dear Friends,
    I am using OCI and instant_client (11.2.0.3.0)  in my C++ program (on Windows 7) to connect remotely to 11G database.
    While doing a connection using server name as well as servername:port/service_name as connection strings, I am getting error of ORA-12504 TNS:listener was not given the SERVICE_NAME in CONNECT_DATA.
    According to instant client FAQ & white paper at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/instant-client/index.html, no tnsnames.ora is required for instant client. Then why could I be getting this error?
    I ensured that only the instant client directory is in Path environment variable. There was a ODBC driver installed on this same host. Could that be modifying the behavior of instant client?
    Kindly guide.
    Many thanks in advance for your help and time.

    >>what is the exact connect string you are using?
    For connection, I am using the plain hostname on which the DB server is running.
    >>are you calling OCIServerAttach before OCISessionBegin?
    I am not using OCISessionBegin. For connecting to DB server, I am using the following sequence of OCI calls (in this same order):
    1) g_OCIEnvNlsCreate
    2) g_OCIHandleAlloc //-- error handle: OCI_HTYPE_ERROR
    3) g_OCIHandleAlloc // --- sevice context: OCI_HTYPE_SVCCTX
    4) Setting driver name and application name for the session:
        OCISession* usersession = 0;
        ret = g_OCIAttrGet(m_pSvcCtx, OCI_HTYPE_SVCCTX, &usersession, NULL,
                                 OCI_ATTR_SESSION, m_pErrHdl);

            ret = g_OCIAttrSet(usersession, OCI_HTYPE_SESSION, (void*)"OCI_DRV", 2,OCI_ATTR_DRIVER_NAME, m_pErrHdl);
            ret = g_OCIAttrSet(usersession, OCI_HTYPE_SESSION, (void*)"ClientApplication", <ub4>(strlen("DataReconScanning")), OCI_ATTR_CLIENT_IDENTIFIER, m_pErrHdl);
    5) g_OCILogon() using the user, password and host name, as below:

  • Connection to Oracle BI server using BRIO

    Hi,
    I read in the administrator manual that it's possible to connect to Oracle BI Server with third-party tools over ODBC. The instructions say to configure a DSN on the remote machine using the Oracle BI Server driver. Does this mean that I need to install this driver or perhaps a client this driver is packaged with in order to complete this connection?
    Is there some other way to connect to Oracle BI server using Brio?
    Any help appreciated.
    Thank you!
    Some background:
    We have Oracle BIEE 101320 installed with connections established to our warehouse. We have Oracle Answers (Siebel Analytics) configured and have dashboards running off the BI server.
    There are a lot of folks here who use Brio. We'd like to get them to connect to the Oracle BI server rather than to the data warehouse.

    Hi
    We are a Hyperion partner and have just started looking at Oracle BI Enterprise Edition. When I installed it it automatically creates an ODBC DSN on the server called AnalyticsWeb. I am working directly on the server and I can then connect using Hyperion Interactive Reporting Studio using an oce which points to the DSN. So Brio Explorer/Designer would be the same. Working on a separate client machine I guess you would need a DSN on that machine. Not sure you would do this but if you do a custom install on the client of the client tools, you should see Oracle BI Server as a data source.
    BUT...
    I imported the Hyperion Sample database into the Oracle metadata repository using the Admin tool, and then connect to it using Hyperion IR studio. While I can see the tables in the catalog, when I drag them into the Datamodel, they just disappear. I would be interested to see what you get.
    Cheers
