Connecting to existing TFS 2012 repository using SSDT 2012

I am trying to connect to an existing TFS 2012 repository using SSDT 2012 (Visual Studio 2010 Shell). I already have Visual Studio 2013 Professional Edition installed, but I am still not seeing any options other than "None" for the Plug-In Selection
dropdown in the Source Control part of the options menu.
Am I missing something in the SSDT documentation that explains how to do this?

I have attached the results of pressing the "Copy Info" button in the about section when I open SQL Server Data Tools at the bottom of this response.
I was able to fix the issue by installing Visual Studio 2010 Team Explorer.

  • Options for monitoring health of SCSM 2012 SP1 using SCOM 2012 SP1

    I've done some research on how to monitor SCSM using SCOM (version 2012 SP1 for both) and found two options:
    Option 1 - Agent-based monitoring. With SCSM2012 SP1, it looks as though the agent is
    already present (for upgrades and also for fresh installs). So it follows that SCOM will be able to monitor the health of SCSM.
    Option 2 - Agentless monitoring. On the Technet
    download page, 'System Requirements' section indicates compatibility with SCOM 2012 and above, and SCSM 2012 and above. Details tab says the following (emphasis mine):
    This System Center Management Pack for System Center 2012 - Service Manager should be used to monitor
    System Center 2012 - Service Manager, System Center 2012 R2 - Service Manager
    and includes monitors for the management server as well as the Data Warehouse server. In this release of the management pack, the Data Access Service, Health Service, Configuration Service, and workflows are monitored.
    So it looks like both options are viable, but I'd be interested in hearing other people's experiences of using one vs. the other. Is there any major difference in the information that's provided by agentless vs. agent-based monitoring, or are they just two
    different ways of pulling the exact same information into SCOM?
    Edit: Just occurred to me that SP1 isn't explicitly mentioned in the Technet article linked above under option 2. Has anyone successfully used agentless monitoring on SP1?

  • Errors Performing V2V Conversions from ESX 5.5 to Hyper-V 2012 R2 using SCVMM 2012 R2

    I've successfully added my vSphere server and 2 ESXi 5.5 hosts to my SCVMM 2012 R2 server.
    I have also added my 2 Hyper-V 2012 R2 hosts as well.
    When I attempt to do a V2V conversion of a VM from 1 of my ESX hosts to Hyper-V, I receive - "Error (2901) The operation did not complete successfully because of a parameter or call sequence that is not valid. The parameter is incorrect."
    When I go into the details of the job in VMM it shows "1.4 Convert VMDK to virtual hard disk - Failed" and "1.4.1 Deploy file (using HTTP) - Failed"
    Any help resolving this would be appreciated.
    Also, I can do V2V conversions using the same ESX and Hyper-V hosts without any issues using Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter 2.0, but my manager wants me to use VMM.

    Quite honestly, building fresh on the platform and migrating the apps / services is always the best way to go
    PlateSpin was the last product I knew that had a Linux conversion utility.   Even found this:

    No idea the current status of PlateSpin.  They were the gold standard back in 2008.
    But honestly, it can be painful.  It all depends on the hardware now.
    With Hyper-V the end boot device is IDE - so if the machine now runs on SCSI, the boot loader pointers need to be modified (if you can find a tool to bring the disk forward).
    Now, that said.  Hyper-V can convert a physical disk to VHD.  That is a stealth feature that has been there from the beginning.  I can't recall if it is block by block, or if the file system must be known for the copy to succeed.
    You mount the disk on the Hyper-V Server and create a new VHD from a physical disk.
    The biggest issue with the conversion utilities is that Windows does not know the Linux file systems.  So you need some Linux tool to do it.
    I know that VMware had a converter that handled Linux - but again, you have to manually fixup the hardware in the boot menu.

    I am currently working on WPF project that uses SQLEXPRESS 2012 DB and EF 5.0. 
    I was able to connect to the DB when it was hosted on the same PC. I now hosted the DB to a differernt PC and trying to access it through WPF app, but getting the error as "The underlying provider failed to open". I went through various forums
    to fix the issue but none of the solutions provided resolved the issue. Below is my connection string

    According  your description, you fail to connect to a SQL Server 2012 Express database from WPF application. Cloud you please post the full error message for further analysis? You can check Windows Event Viewer or SQL Server Error log to see
    if there is additional information.
    From my knowledge, the error “The underlying provider failed on Open” always occurs when the connection string is incorrect. I recommend you create a surely working connection string via the following method.
    Create a new project, add your Entity Framework Data Model and select your required connection, click “Test Connection” to get a working connection string. Then copy and paste the connection string in the web/app.config of your own project. For more

    We are starting from the beginning like its a new ipod starts out asking language, country,location services,choose a network,and when we get to "setup ipod touch  " there are 3 options 1..setup as new ipod, 2.restore from ipod backup 3 restore from itunes backup and when we hit setup as new ipod and click next it comes up with sign in with apple id or create a free apple id  we clicked create a free apple id....then comes up with bday,1st name last name, use your current email address, get a free icloud email address or change email address and THIS is where we have problems....if we hit change email address it means that sis's stuff goes under his name and moves all her stuff to this older ipod which the brother does not want. sorry this is so long but its the only way I knew to do it.

    The following may help... However please note at the moment we have not certified XML DB HTTP with a HTTPS /SSL / TCPS connection. Nor have I tried this myself..
    Please follow the following steps to configure HTTPS:
    1.     Make sure Oracle Advance Security is installed
    a.     It installs by default for Enterprise Edition
    2.     Create and configure a Wallet
    a.     Refer to Oracle Advance Security Administrator�s Guide, Chapter 17 � Using Oracle Wallet Manager, for creating the Wallet
    i.     From $ORACLE_HOME/bin run owm
    b.     Import the trusted certificate in the Wallet
    3.     Configure SSL on the Server
    a.     Refer to Oracle Advance Security Administrator�s Guide, Chapter 7 � Configuring Secure Sockets Layer Authentication
    b.     Follow the steps in Task 3: Configure SSL on the Server, in the Enabling SSL section
    4.     Edit the xdbconfig.xml configuration file to specify http-protocol as tcps
    a.     Locate the <httpconfig> section
    b.     Change the value of <http-protocol> tag from tcp to tcps
    5.     Edit the Database initialization file to start a TCPS dispatcher
    6.     Restart the Database

  • VS 2012 Professional with SSDT to accomplish automated Schema updates to QA Server?

    I am looking for a HOW TO article that covers the following:
    1. A Visual Studio 2012 or 2013 Professional .NET Database Project  (SSDT)
    2. A Visual Studio Online TFS Service Server that is linked to a On-Site Build Agent on a QA Box
    3. A BUILD Definition that will execute when a developer checks in schema changes to the code repository
    4. The build will execute and if it succeeds will then do a schema update to an existing database.
    Now I found a tool by REDGATE called RedGate SQL CI TFS Build Plugin that rocks this process, but it has an associated cost (400+ per developer) and I would like to avoid this extra cost if possible.  We use Build Definitions to deploy our web projects
    to our QA servers and I keep reading that it can be used for Database projects also, but I have not found an article that has been helpful for a schema update process...
    Anyone know of a step by step guide out there for this...

    Jamie's article should be a great starting point for you. In addition we have a presentation and whitepaper available on the SSDT blog. These cover setting up CI and also doing automated database unit test runs on checkin to validate that changes are correct:

    The summary of all this is that CI is supported with the built in tools and is worth looking into.

    Hi All,
    I am getting an error message "All available connections to database server are in use by other client machines. Please try again later and check the log file for error 5054"  when trying to log into HRC (This user has the reporting capabilities) . I checked the log files this is what i found out 
    The log file stated that there were ongoing connections of HRC with the CCX  (I am sure there isn't any active login to HRC)
    || When you tried to login the following error was being displayed because the maximum number of connections were reached for the server .  We can see that a total number of 5 connections have been configured . ||

    What is the OS version of the PC you are running  and is it physical machine or virtual machine that is running the HRC client ..
    OS Version Windows 7 Home Premium  64 bit and it’s a physical machine.
    . The Max DB Connections for Report Client Sessions is set to 5 for each servers (There are two servers). The no of HR Sessions is set to 10.
    I wanted to know if there is a way to find the HRC sessions active now and terminate the one or more or all of that sessions from the server end ? 

    We have had this "PRX5" problem with Exchange 2013 since the RTM version.  We recently applied CU3, and it did not correct the problem.  We have seen this problem on every Exchange 2013 we manage.  They are all installations where all roles
    are installed on the same Windows server, and in our case, they are all Windows virtual machines using Windows 2012 Hyper-V.
    We have tried all the "this fixed it for me" solutions regarding DNS, network cards, host file entries and so forth.  None of those "solutions" made any difference whatsoever.  The occurrence of the temporary error PRX5 seems totally random. 
    About 2 out of 20 incoming mail test by Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer fail with this PRX5 error.
    Most people don't ever notice the issue because remote mail servers retry the connection later.  However, telephone voice mail systems that forward voice message files to email, or other such applications such as your scanner, often don't retry and
    simply fail.  Our phone system actually disables all further attempts to send voice mail to a particular user if the PRX5 error is returned when the email is sent by the phone system.
    Is Microsoft totally oblivious to this problem?
    PRX5 is a serious issue that needs an Exchange team resolution, or at least an acknowledgement that the problem actually does exist and has negative consequences for proper mail flow.

  • Setup 10.3 portal to connect to 8.1 content repository

    Hello,
    I am wondering, can I use the existing 8.1 WLP content repository as a third-party content repository for 10.3 WLP Virtual Content Repository (VCR)? Do I have to create the SPI implementation on the 10.3 side in order to connect to the 8.1 WLP content repository? Have anyone done something similar to this situation?
    Or is it possible to setup the 10.3 WLP VCR to connect to the 8.1 WLP content repository directly?

    Hi Brad,
    I only upgrade a subset of our 8.1 portal application to 10.3. I still need the existing 8.1 repository for some of the 8.1 portal applications.
    I can upgrade and copy the entire 8.1 content repository to a new 10.3 content repository, then I will have two content repositories to maintain. Is there another way beside upgrading the entire 8.1 repository to 10.3?

  • Windows Server 2012 - Printing using UNC path not working

    Hi,
    I have a problem printing using the printer's UNC path ("\\Server_Name\Printer_Hostname") to work with a web
    app hosted on IIS 8. With a windows forms application the UNC path is working fine and the app prints.
    With
    the web app I receive an error "The data area passed to a system call is tool small". 
    Also,
    in the event viewer under Applications and Services Logs -> Microsoft -> PrintService -> Operational, I receive the error "The print spooler failed to reopen an existing printer connection because it could not read the configuration information
    from the registry key S-1-5-82-1980832875-2702362896-1795126167-3622310632-1152289074\Printers\Connections. The print spooler could not open the registry key. This can occur if the registry key is corrupt or missing, or if the registry recently became unavailable."

    Similarly, System.Printing was designed just for WPF.
    About which printing API to use in ASP.NET/IIS, there is no clear answer so far. Thus, your only resource is Microsoft support, who can perform further analysis (with their dedicate utilities and of course Windows source code) and might come across a solution
    to help you out. This is not a trivial scenario.

  • A problem connecting to AS running on HyperV using a simple workgroup

    Hi,
    Please help, I am baffled by this.
    I have created a Windows Server 2012 R2 virtual server on Hyper V. The host machine is Windows 8.1. I have then installed SQL Server 2014 on the server and patched up to date. I have correctly enabled the TCP/IP networking and have configured the Firewall
    ports as outlined in the Technet Guide.
    I can connect to the SQL Server Database from host/remote using the sa account but not my <Host>\<UserName> windows account. Acceptable but not ideal.
    When it comes to connecting to AS from host\remote I only get a windows log in and then when manually typing in the name of the client server I get the following message.
    TITLE: Connect to Server
    Cannot connect to SQLServer1.
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
    A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient)
    Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. (System)

    This looks to me as though the <host>\<user> log in isn't recognised by the client even though the user is set up on both. I believe this is a Domain issue. I guess the correct fix is to set up an virtual Active Directory but at this stage I
    don't want to do this. Both host and client are on the same workgroup and this is configured correctly so why are the domain issues cropping up. I'm sure this didn't use to happen a couple of years ago when I tried this has some security issue changed?
    Any advice welcomed - many thanks in advance

    Hi Nick,
    In Analysis Services, client application to an Analysis Services instance require Windows authentication (integrated). The Analysis Services client libraries only work with Windows security principles. As you mention you have connected AS properly, I think
    you may under this scenario: You are using NTLM authentication. Then you have an account on both machine which has same username and password. But we don't suggest you do this due to security issue. If each machine within the workgroup has this same account,
    each client can access the SQL Server.
