Connecting to Tuxedo - suggest best solution

Hi,
We are transforming one of our client server application to Oracle ADF application, the existing application uses VisualAge Interspace for connecting to tuxedo. The application passes the values to the intespace dll as tab separated string there after the dll will call the tuxedo and get the value from that and return the values as tab delimited string to the client. We are palnning to use weblogic 10.3. On web search we found that following services are available
1. WTC
2. JOLT
3. SALT
please suggest the best approach to connect Tuxdo from Weblogic server and use in ADF

If I recall correctly, JOLT is simply a limited Tuxedo Java client that does not provide the gateway/bridging capabilities of WTC. I haven't looked at WTC closely in years, but somewhat recall that, unlike JOLT, it supplies things like:
* The ability to call EJBs from Tuxedo using Tux APIs
* The ability to call Tux services from WebLogic using standard JEE RMI/EJB APIs.
* XA Integration (Transactions that span both Tux and JEE operations)
* Queuing Integration (eg Tux /Q to JMS destination bridge)
You can probably get more definitive advice from the [Tuxedo newsgroup | http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=565].

Almost certainly none of the above! Try each of the following in this order:
Select 'Reset Safari' from the Safari menu.
Close down Safari; move <home>/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db to the trash; restart Safari.
Change the DNS servers in your network settings to use the OpenDNS servers: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
Turn off DNS pre-fetching by entering the following command in Terminal and restarting Safari:

Suggestion Required for Best Solution

Please share your thoughts for the best solution to implement.
Scenario: ATG to interact with the Middleware layer. ATG will be the webportal front end and there will be different sales channels.ATG Product catalog will be the product master.
Approach 1: Sales Channels will interact with Middleware layer and ATG will expose the product datalog and some business rules via webservice.
Approach 2: Sales Channels will interact directly with ATG through webservices and ATG will interact with Middleware layer for some business rules.
The difficulty for me in finding the best approach is ATG front end business rules cannot be moved to middleware and same the middleware business rules cannot be moved to ATG front end. Also, the challenge here is we need to use SOAP for service contracts but ATG webservice supports only JAX RPC.
Which will be the best approach and share if you have any other approaches.

Yes OOTB ATG only support JAX-RPC webservices but with little work you can expose any global component in ATG as JAX-WS webservice.

You can then declare this is your web.xml as servlet and wallah you have webservice deployed as servlet.
You can see the WSDL be appending ?WSDL to your servlet path.

Performance degradation using Jolt ASP Connectivity for TUXEDO

We have a customer that uses Jolt ASP Connectivity for TUXEDO and is suffering
from a severe performance degradation over time.
Initial response times are fine (1 s.), but they tend to increase to 3 minutes
after some time (well, eh, a day or so).
Data:
- TUXEDO 7.1
- Jolt 1.2.1
- Relatively recent rolling patch installed (so no there are probably no JSH performance
issues and memory leaks as fixed in earlier patches)
The ULOG shows that during the night the JSH instances notice a timeout on behalf
of the client connection and do a forced shutdown of the client:

This happens every 10 minutes as per configuration of the JSL (-T flag).
The customer "solved" the problem for the time being by increasing the connection
pool size on the IIS web server.
However, they didn't find a "smoking gun" - no definite cause for the problem.
So, it is debatable whether their "solution" suffices.
It is my suspicion the problem might be located in the Jolt ASP classes running
on the IIS.
Maybe the connection pool somehow loses connections over time, causing subsequent
users having to queue before they get served (although an exception should be
raised if no connections are available).
However, there's no documentation on the functioning of the connection pool for
Jolt ASP.
My questions:
1) What's the algorithm used for managing connections with Jolt ASP for TUXEDO?
2) If connections are terminated by a JSH, will a new connection be established
from the web server automatically? (this is especially interesting, because the
connection policy can be configured in the JSL CLOPT, but there's no info on how
this should be handled/configured by Jolt ASP connectivity for TUXEDO)

Best solution for media storage

Hi Everyone,
I am looking for suggestions/how-to on the best setup for media storage. We have two editors (and two computers - Mac Pro PowerPC and iMac Intel). We are currently using an internal 500 GB slot on the Mac Pro along with 1 additional external 1.5 TB drive. Then, on our iMac we use a 1.5 TB external drive. We use, for external drives, LaCie.
Here's our problem. We are running out of space. So, what is the best solution for media storage? Should we get a small rack for our external drives from LaCie and daisy chain them? Or, should we get a server? The only problem I have with a server is connection speed...we, most of the time, have a slow connection at our college.
p.s. here is a link to LaCie's website listing a rack...and we have the d2 drives. So, do you daisy chain them or plug each one in individually?

Thank you all for your suggestions. I agree...Drobo looks great, but I am finding more and more bad news when it comes to editing. It looks like a great solution for archiving. I received another solution with great reviews from one of my colleagues contacts. They work for a big company.

*Our edit suite storage solution is a Facilis Terrablock 24EX unit. (http://www.facilis2.com/24ex.html) It has 18TB of space and is connected on 4GB Fibre channel to both suites. On top of that we have an Apple X-Serve running Final Cut Server that sorts and catalogs all the video we put in so network users (Mac and PC) can search and look at media from their workstations. We just put this in a few months ago. Before that we had a Rorke Data Galaxy HDX with 6TB of space on a 2GB Fibre Channel connection. ( http://www.rorke.com/av/galaxy-hdx.cfm ) It’s now a backup storage unit. Both systems have excellent performance though, we upgraded mostly for space and the server software.*

I am using a DDL trigger, as suggested, but this is the second "line of defense".
In the databases I maintain, only a DBA can perform DDL commands. Developers are connecting to empty schemas (connectors), that have update/query roles on schemas that hold the actual application objects (owner schemas).
This way, our developers don't know the password to the owners, and you can be calm your databases are safe...

since i 'm not that guru in the J technologies i would like you to get me some help with this decision:
what is the best solution for developeing an intranet "PMS" which should handles data (connection to postgresql) and runs some algorithm (for planing puropose) im background ??
1 developeing a web based solution (servlet and jsp and and ..)
2 developeing an application wich will be manging everything ??? (a kind of programm with its own GUI)
3 you may have an other idea solution and ill be gald for any advices

Web applications are all the rage these days and IMO rightly so as they greatly reduce deployment cost and headaches.
They do have some drawbacks though which for you might be important.
I can imagine that sooner or later (probably sooner in my experience) a requirement to interface with hardware installed on the client machines will emerge.
Whether this is a barcode scanner or a chipcard reader to get client information from some form of card issued to the client, or maybe a label printer to print out labels for medication bottles doesn't matter, you need to access the client machine directly.
Web applications have great difficulty with that (in fact, it's all but impossible).
You could go for an applet solution but that's contrived at best and still leaves the same problems.
So in your situation an old-fashioned client/server application (maybe using web services to communicate with the serverside application) is likely the best longterm solution.
You'd have the database remote so everyone has access to the same data, being accessed through processes run on the server and called by the clients. These can also do most of the business logic, leaving the clients relatively dumb responsible mainly for data validation and entry and presentation of the results.

Pop Up Window - Dynamic Page - Need Best Solution

I'd like to create a pop-up window for my site. I've used behaviors in the past. I'm not sure if that's the best way now. Basiclly I have a photo gallery with thumbnails. Once you click the thumbnail I want a larger window to open with the image. I've seen the javascript windows used that use CSS lightbox, however I can't get it to work with my site. I guess I should mention I'm using:

Unit is set for repeating regions

Best solutions for storing text, Word and pdf documents on iPad

I just switched from using a powerbook to an iPad + microkeyboard for my work computer (I'm freelance and need to bring my own device wherever I go), and I love the size and weight of it compared to a laptop.
What I am glitching on is the fact that I cannot save documents to my ipad. Clients email Word and PDF docs to me, and I have (very few of) my own docs, such as resumes, which I need to update slightly and send out to them as well. It's not ideal when I need to send out a resume to dig through my Sent folder on Mail and forward it, creating a new email but just saving the attachment. I also need to access certain received documents repeatedly as reference. I'm surprised iOS for iPad doesn't have a "Documents" folder as OS X does.
How are users working around this problem currently? Please give me suggestions for solutions. I'm hopeful that future iterations of iOS will provide a way to store and access a personal library of documents as it does photos and videos, so I will commit to working through this in the short term. What are your work arounds?

I doubt iOS will ever change. iOS does not have a file manager system like you're used to on a laptop or desktop, so it lacks the ability to access files like you're used to. So whatever workarounds you find will likely become your regular work flow. If Apple hasn't added a file manager to iOS in the past 5 (give or take) years it's doubtful they'll do so in the future...the lack of a file manager is why the iOS operating system is so secure, viruses can't infect and use a file manager system to spread if they don't have one.)
iOS ties the access to files to the apps that access them. As you said, photos with the photos app, music with the music app. With your purchase of a new iOS device you are eligible for free Apple apps, amongst them Pages and Numbers, Apple's word processing and version of excel.. You can store your documents in that app and access them that way. Or there are tons of other word processing apps. I use Documents to Go (although it's not free so you may wish to experiment with the free apps first before you start paying)
File transfer....well Apple's work flow is that everyone has access to always on and always available internet, thus their workflow being built around the cloud and using the internet for file transfer, as well as e-mailing stuff to yourself. There are some flash drives out there that have their own wifi transmitter that may help you. You'd plug them into another computer, put the file on it, turn on the wifi transmitter and use a small localized hotspot to connect your ipad to and download the files to your iPad via an app that will come with the flash drive.

Unfortunately, I'm not so much familiar with Tuxedo, but I hear that Oracle has CORBA architecture, so I suspect that we can use some other adapters provided by SAP PI itself to connect to Tuxedo.
If someone has experience of developping the adapter to connect to Tuxedo by scratch, I also want to know the detail of it.

Best solution for managing 50 remote sites via cisco vpn

At the moment my support organisation use the cisco vpn client on their windows pc's to provide remote support to our customers. I want to know if there is a solution from cisco that would support nialing up the 30 connections all the time without having to use clients on individual pc's. I know there will be issues because some of the sites will have conflicting lan ip address ranges. We would like to offer improved support to our customers for example using nagios to monitor their servers but this is not possible if vpn connection if not nialled up.
Please help with the best solution.

L2L vpns solution is suitable for your scenario, depending on your traffic load for each site u would have to do assesment on that, any asa5510 or higher in an active/standby architecture with stateful failover sure can do the job. As for conflicting LAN ips there is ways to work around that by using NAT or Policy NAT.

Best Solution for Archiving Table data

Hi All,
I have a table with huge data. It is not partitioned table.
On an average per day 10000 records will be inserted into this table. Now I want to archive(backup)
every one years data manually and keep in safe location and hence delete those archived rows
from the table. Whenever required it should be easily imported back to this table. All this happens through
Application.
One appraoch in my mind right now, is transferring the data from table to flat file with comma separted,
and whenever required again importing back to the table from Flat file using external tables concept.
Can any body suggest what is best solution for this.

The best solution would be partitioning.
Any other solution requires DML - running DELETE and INSERT transactions to remove a data set and to add a data set (if need be) again.
With partitioning this is achieved (in sub-seconds) using DDL by exchanging a partition's contents with that of a table. Which means that after the archived data has been loaded (SQL*Loaded, Import, etc) into a table (and indexes created), that table (with indexes) is "swapped" into the partition table as a partition.

Best solution for showing photos on a HD TV?

I recently got a Sony HD TV with full 1080. I would like to be able to display my photos at the best resolution possible on it. What is the best way to do that? My computer is nowhere near the TV so I can't plug it in directly. I also am not interested in buying an Apple TV so I guess I'm looking at DVD. How do you get the best resolution using DVD's?

DVD's give you, at best, a resolution of something like 852x400. Given that 1080i resolution is 1920x1080, you can see that you are loosing a huge amount of detail. It will look OK but not nearly as impressive as it might.
Honestly the best solution is to hook your Mac up to the TV. You can look for DVI cables online that are very long (I think as long as 50ft). You'll also probably need a DVI to HDMI adaptor, depending on what your TV accepts. The only question is if a cable run that long will be able to hold the signal OK.
The AppleTV would be a good alternative, but be aware that it limits resolution to 720p - 1280x720, which is much better than a DVD but not quite as good as a full 1080i connection. You probably wouldn't notice the difference between that and 1080i as much as between DVD and 1080i. Another alternative is an older non-Intel Mac MINI, still able to display a picture at 1080i just fine.
In the future, the answer to this question will be to buy a Blu-Ray burner and produce a 1080i slideshow to disc just as you can do with DVD today. But burners are still rather expensive as are players, so a second Mac or Apple TV would probably be cheaper at this point...
