Connecting to windows 7 no longer working

Hi
Yesterday my macbook pro had no trouble connecting to my windows pc over the network using smb://computername/folder i manged to transfer files easily and the network never went down... however today the mac takes along to time to connect the displays 'there was a problem connecting to the server' . Firstly i tried wireless to wireless (like yesterday) over my network which didnt work so i tried wired to wired (ethernet) with no luck
I've searched for a while and found no solution, any ideas
Thanks
Ryan

i would believe it might be the limiting of the number of programs during startup.
do a msconfig and configure it to startup only windows item only. See if this makes any diference

  • HP Connected Music app no longer working

    Hello,
    My HP Connected Music app is no longer working on my Pavilion 15.  Every time I open it, it loads then immediately minimizes itself.  When I maximize it, it appears to load for a few seconds then minimizes itself again.  I hadn't downloaded anything or changed any system settings prior to this problem occurring, so I'm not sure why it's doing it.
    I've done a system restore, made no difference.  I was going to uninstall then reinstall the app, but I can't seem to find it in the Windows Store (didn't come up when I typed "HP Connected Music").
    I've noticed all my other apps still work fine.  I've also noticed that on HP's website it states that this product isn't available in the U.S.  Is that true?  What's the deal?  It came with the notebook when I bought it just a few months ago.  Please help.

  • What is the best rdp client for mac so I can connect to Windows desktop at work

    what is the best mac compatible rdp client I could use to connect to my Windows desktop at work?

    Reflexvest wrote:
    I've been using it for 3 months without a problem.
    Maybe it's because I have office installed but I tought it was free to use?
    I underwent the same exact scenario. Installed MS Office (Home and Student), and also installed the RDC client. Worked for several months, and then gave me the "license expired" problem. Since it went a few months longer than the previous installation, which was not part of Office, I erroneously thought that the licensing problem was gone. Not so. Six months after install, it is dead. I think the Office version just gives you six months or so of usage, instead of three.
    It's awfully "nice" of Microsoft to pull this, without giving the user any means for resolution. It says you have to buy a license, but from who?, where? How much?

  • USB ethernet connection via switch no longer works after installing Mountain Lion

    Since installing Mountain Lion, I have no longer been able to use my USB ethernet connection via an ethernet switch. I have deleted and re-added the connection in preferences. The connection reads "Connected" but it is not working as connected (unless I bypass the switch and plug directly). I have tried doing this with two different switches to no avail. Does anyone have a solution? Thanks.

    I Read this sollution elsewhere on these forums and found that this worked for me.
    However, the "load" time in Safari is not as fast as it used to be. Might be due to some router setting.
    Solution:
    For all the Dutch users that have a KPN Experiabox router:
    1) go to http://192.168.2.254
    2) Username: KPN Password: leave empty (You might have changed this yourself)
    3) Go to Network (at the top)
    4) Go to WLAN (at the left)
    5) Set as follows:
    Enable WLAN: Enable
    Mode: IEEE 802.11g Only
    Channel: 7
    Transmitting power: 100%
    Enable WMM QoS: Disable
    This fixed my wifi problems. Good luck

  • Pop-up windows no longer working!  HELP

    Hello,
    When I click on a button inside my shopping cart software that would normally bring up a Popup window so that I can select Options or Related products is no longer working.
    I tired rebooting, reseting Safari, clear cache, history and all that but nothing works.
    So I installed Firefox fully expecting this to solve the problem, but dang, no popup windows. Yes, I disable the block popup windows feature on both browsers, but no luck.
    My iMac is only a couple months old and the popups windows where working fine last week and I have not installed any new software that I can think of.
    I can use my PC with Interner Explorer an the popup window selection works fine.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mike
    San Diego,CA

    Thanks. I will give this a try and let you know.
    I also tried the other iMac we have here and it has the same problem, however my PC with IE works fine. Very strange. It almost seems like there was a software update recently that broke something.
    Just to be clear....I am trying to click on a button inside the "control panel" of my shopping cart software (www.quikstore.com) When you click on this button, a new mini window should pop up so that I can select an option like Small, medium or Large, as an example. This popup worked fine last week.
    Thanks,

  • Windows no longer working

    I've been trying to figure out what's wrong with my Windows for a bit now. It reported a corrupt file in my external hard drive (some file for a video game. It often occurs when Windows decides it doesn't want to be connected properly to the external). I went to use command prompt, which I've used before (Windows prevented me from deleting a file by using the argument that it didn't exist enough to be deleted) and the chkdsk command. If I recall it correctly checked the main disc (not the external because I forgot to specify that) and when I went to check the disc AND delete or repair the corrupted file(s) I received and error. After restarting Windows I found that I get the error every time I log into the computer (it has a number like 0.5000x in it or something). My computer goes to the desktop but there is no icons, no start menu, nothing. Just the desktop.
    So if any is unfortunate enough to have had this same Windows error then please give me information on how to solve it.
    If not, I was already planning on just reinstalling everything that is connected to Windows (the odds of having the same Windows error seem so small these days). I did not install my Windows in the first place so I don't know the order of things. I think, correct me wherever I am wrong, Boot Camp is installed on Mac, then Boot Camp creates a partition for Windows, and finally Windows is installed on the partition.
    I looked in the help sections already but it says that to upgrade Boot Camp to the newer versions (I actually have the BETA version of Boot Camp, something I didn't realize) I have to do install it on the Windows side and have Leopard installed.
    Basically, I am all confused about how to reinstall both Boot Camp and Windows on my computer. I will shortly be getting Leopard hopefully so if that's a requirement don't worry. I need the order of what needs to be installed and deleted and the sides of the computer (Mac or Windows) that things need to be done on.

    Last time I stuck the Windows disc into the computer and started with it, I didn't press a button in time (it says 'press any button to boot from disc' in top left corner but it goes away really fast and I apparently wasn't watching for it). I managed to get through the steps on the page you linked to and I repaired my Windows. NOW it gets some error about not enough memory existing for something about API. It then proceeds to restart the computer, get the error again, restart the computer, get the error...
    If it weren't so annoying I'd say the infinite startup would be cool. I think the easiest way to fix my problem is to uninstall Windows and then reinstall it. If that actually would be guaranteed to solve the problem, them please tell me:
    1. How to uninstall Windows (I assume that the cd key can then be reused)
    2. How to install Windows
    3. Remind me that I need to do something or other with boot camp by sticking the Leopard cd into Windows (I am pretty sure that's what the help here said).

  • Bonjour for Windows no longer works after SP3 is installed

    Bonjour for Windows was working fine until SP3 came out. Now I can see the printer and Bonjour goes through the motions to set it up, but I can't print to the printer.
    The whole construct of "Printer.local" or "AirPortExpress.local" doesn't seem to work in a printer Port configuration any more.
    I can ping the Printer.local or AirPortExpress.local in a command window, but the print spooler can't seem to send anything to the printer if the name.local construct is used in the port configuration.
    If I replace the printer.local name in the port configuration with the IP address instead of the printer.local name, I can print fine. The only exception to this is printers hanging off of an AirPortExpress. I can't print to any printer that is attached to an Airport Express. Even if I setup a port to the IP address, I can't print to that printer.
    Another user that had this problem uninstalled SP3, I'm contemplating that now.

    I have Bonjour installed on my ThinkPad running WinXP. It can't see my LAN-connected HP printer. I don't even see an option to add a Bonjour printer.
    ( how do you add a Bonjour printer??
    Nor can any of my Macs see the shared documents folder on the PC. They could before I upgraded to SP3. Sharing for that folder is turned on, of course
    I removed the Bonjour component and reinstalled it. No diference.
    I downloaded the latest Bonjour installer from Apple and installed that.
    Turned firewall off. No difference.
    The Windows Component Manager shows that the Bonjour service is running. I stopped and restarted the service. No joy.
    The Windows Event Viewer shows that the Bonjour service is logging informational error messages ID=1 from time to time.

  • Connection to Windows Server stopped working

    I have a very bizarre problem, our office of about 40 PCs with 5 Macs. 4 of those Macs have no problems connecting to a Server 2003 machine using SMB connections. The 5th machine had been working fine up until today. The user cannot connect to the server using his username. When prompted for the username and password if I use my domain username and password, it connects no problems. When he uses his domain account, the Mac returns the following error:
    The finder cannot complete the operation because some data in smb://server+/+share could not be read or written. (Error code -36)
    We have tried shutting down and restarting with no success. I have cleaned out his keychain of any saved information for that server and the problem still appears. No changes have been made to the server that would limit his access between yesterday and today.
    He is running OS X 10.3.9 and is connecting wirelessly, but experiences the same problem on a wired connection. Since the other 4 Macs are not having problems (including another 10.3.9 laptop), I know it doesn't have to do with Server 2003's requirement for Digitally Signed communications.

    I would guess the user's Windows account is corrupted. Since Error -36 is a read/write error, it could occur if the user's server account record is damaged. Since you can use this Mac to logon to other accounts, the Mac is probably fine. Since other Macs can still logon, the Windows server 2003 is fine. This points toward a corrupted account.
    I've experienced this phenomenon with Windows accounts and Windows PCs.
    A test would be to logon to this user's account from another machine on the network, either Mac or PC. Failure from another machine would point to corruption of that account on the Windows 2003 server. If corrupt, it will need to be deleted and re-created. Backup any server data for this account, since deleting the account will destroy any server data for this account.

  • PC based iPod connected to Mac no longer works

    I was told that I could connect my PC based iPod mini to a Mac without doing anything in order to listen to my music at work where we use Macs. The second I plugged the USB in the iPod went dead and the Mac restarted (now the computer seems to restart any time I plug something into that USB port but otherwise is working fine).
    Obviously, I was misinformed about the compatibility of the 2 products but, is there any way to get my iPod to work again--in general? I haven't tried restoring it but I tried to do a reset and my iPod won't respond to anything. I am afraid to plug it into my computer now because of how it made the Mac shut down. I have all my music backed up so i am not worried about that but, I am afraid the HD got fried or something?? Or could it harm my computer to try and plug it in and restore it?
    Please give advice!

    no one responded to this--thanks people...

  • Migration from 1.6 to Apex 3.1 - Popup windows no longer working

    We just moved our application to Apex 3.1 from HTMLDB 1.6. The only thing that is not working since we migrated is the popup window that used to work. Now a window still pops up, but it is the login screen, not the expected window, and even if one logs in at that point, it just takes them back to the main screen, not to the expected popup window. Is there some setting I have to change to make it work as it did before, or does the code go somewhere else now? This is the code:
    The URL redirect of a button on the calling page: javascript:callMyPopup('P4_PRI_CONTACT_ID');
    The javascript on that same page: <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    function callMyPopup (formItem1) {
    var formVal1 = document.getElementById(formItem1).value;
    var url;
    url = 'f?p=&APP_ID.:10:::::P10_CONTACT_ID:' + formVal1 ;
    w = open(url,"winLov","Scrollbars=1,resizable=1,width=800,height=600");
    if (w.opener == null)
    w.opener = self;
    w.focus();

    Hi @KM7 ,
    Here is a link to restoring original software on your system, this will include the HP Connected Music.
    Have you tried a system restore?
    You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something did not go well on the Tablet.

  • File Properties Window no longer working

    This is for Acrobat X1 Pro.
    Normally, the Properties tab under the File section will bring up a window on top of the file being worked on.   The information in the properties section covers the
    original file.
    All of a sudden, the information in the properties section became transparent, so that the original file is still visible and the properties information is unreadable, being superseded by the original file.
    Has anyone had this problem and is there a solution?

    Have you tried deleting the media cache and database? Could quite well be the source of the problem.

  • It is necessary for me to have more than one window open in Firefox, and the command (New Window) no longer works. How do I have two different websites open at the same time on separate displays?

    I used to be able to open two Firefox windows at a time, with one website on one display and another website on another display. Now when I select New Window, nothing happens.

    You can tear off a tab (right-click: Move to New Window) to open it in another window and resize both windows so you see them at the same time.

  • Connection to windows server sometimes fails after standby

    Hello,
    I am using a Macbook Pro with 10.5.5.
    Connections to Windows file servers works well. But sometimes after resuming from standby the it is not possible to connect. The "Connect to..." hangs and in the konsole i see:

    After rebooting the mac it works again.
    Does anybody know how to solve this?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello nobody loopback,
    The following is unrelated to this post, however it is the only way I know to contact you.
    I found this page
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1218394&start=60&tstart=0
    I have a nearly identical situation where a backed up my entire "Macintosh HD" to a compressed DMG image file. During the restore process on the Leopard Install DVD it froze and I had to force restart. Upon restarting, I found my internal HD with only an Applications folder filled alphabetically with 73 and a half apps ending with a half restored iDVD.app and worst of all my single copy DMG (I know, foolish) reporting a "No mountable file systems" error. Due to the highly proprietary and closed nature of Disk Utility DMG images, I have chosen to contact you directly for help as the Apple Reps turn me to 3rd party data recovery and Data Recovery companies claim they don't do file repair. I feel someone with a wealth of knowledge concerning the DMG file format is my only option.
    I was wondering if you could help me out.
    So what do you say?
    Here is the thread I posted for my case.

    thank you for your time,

  • Printing to a Printer connected to a Windows PC no longer works

    I have been printing to an HP LaserJet 6L Printer connected to a Windows XP PC for quite some time now. But now when I try to print I get this error:
    Connection Failed with error
    NTSTATUSUNSUCCESSFUL
    My Mac is running Tiger 10.4.11 and is up-to-date with patches.
    My PC is setup for file and printer sharing. And when I right click on my printer on my Windows XP PC, I see that it is enabled for sharing.
    I am only running the Windows firewall and the ports are open for file and print sharing.
    I know that my Mac and PC can talk to each other. I can use my Mac to mount a Windows samba share and view pictures stored on my PC.
    I have not opened up any ports on my Mac running Tiger. I have never needed to in the past to print to a printer connected to a Windows PC.
    But why is my printing no longer working?
    Any ideas?

    I tried turning off the Mac firewall. It made no difference.
    I also tried to delete and re-add the Windows Printer. The Mac Printer setup Utility shows the Workgroup and Computer Name. But when I try to add the printer, it asks for a username and password. Originally my account on the Windows PC had no password, so I just entered the username with no password. No luck. So I added a password to the Windows user account and tried again no luck.
    I also tried using the ADVANCED approach (via holding down the Option Key when you click on More Printers) and manually adding the samba printer. No luck.
    I suspect the last Security Update to Tiger broke samba printing.
    I really don't won't to go the static IP approach but I may have to. Any other ideas?
    RobK.
    P.S. I do not have any special characters or spaces in my username, workgroup name or printer sharename.
