Connection class showing error

Question

Hi All,
I am developing a class which is used to get the database connection using JDBC and MySQL, i am using eclipse for
the development.
below is the code i have written for testing purpose:

public class MysqlConnect {
     public static void main(String[] args) {
Connection conn = null;
String url = "jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/";
String dbName = "connectiontest";
String driver = "com.mysql.jdbc.Driver";
String userName = "root";
String password = "root";
try {
Class.forName(driver).newInstance();
conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url+dbName,userName,password);
System.out.println("Connected to the database");
conn.close();
System.out.println("Disconnected from database");
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
it is fine till now, but if i will remove the main method (As we are not going to use main method here) the problems starts pouring in.after removing the main method it is giving the following errors in the error console:
any pointer in this regard is much appriciated.

1) Syntax error on token ";", { expected after this token     conection/src/test     MysqlConnect.java line 13
2)Syntax error, insert "}" to complete ClassBody     conection/src/test     MysqlConnect.java     line 23
