Connection Manager - Expression ConnectionString

Hi
I have been unable to find the answer to this question and would appreciate any advice.
I have taken over a number of SSIS packages and wonder if the existing practise is fairly normal as I have not seen it done quite like this before.
I need to create/modify the packages for changes to the existing import files or for new import files.
Each package imports a number of different text files with different columns, each input file has it’s own Connection Manager however all the Connection Managers share the same Expression ConnectionString and DelayValidation is
False.
When looking at the Connection Manager I can set the Filename to one of the corresponding input files and preview the data etc., however once I open the Flat File Source Component I can no longer preview the data as the default value for the variable in
the Expression Connection String is used which points to a file that is not there.
Should I
Just set DelayValidation to True
use separate variables for each Connection Manager (1 per input file format)
change the default value for the file in the variable to match the components I am looking at
something else
Thanks in advance
Shaun

I have just tried 1.
I thought this would be an option. However even with DelayValidation set to true in the Connection Manager when I open the Flat File Source component the default value for the variable in the Expression Connection String is used, whcih points to a file that
is not there.
Having read up on DealyValidation I thought that would help...
Trying 3 as I know that will work, however I still need to know how I should be doing this
Thanks again
Shaun

could someone give me some techie tips on this ? could it be a hardware issue ?? please assist.

Go to the phone and check if the TFTP server is correct (should be the CME IP address). Also check the DHCP address.

<p>During the last 3 months, I used 32 bit SSIS 2008 (v 10.50.2500.0) on an WinXp machine (v 5.1.2600 SP3 Build 2600) to create a package that writes multiple query results (reports) to an excel spreadsheet. Each report is written to a different

I submitted this issue above and now I am having the same problem again. I am using the same local computer, the same operating system (WinXp v 5.1.2600 SP3 Build 2600) as originally described. I am working with the same SSIS package that
writes multiple query results (reports) to an excel spreadsheet. This package has been successfully executed multiple times, but now I am suddenly getting the same error as follows:
Error at 1ConversionContacts [Connection manager "Excel Connection Manager"]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR.  An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.
An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Microsoft Access Database Engine"  Hresult: 0x80004005  Description: "Unspecified error".
Error at DFlow Write soft deleted duplicate claims to Excel sheet [Excel Destination - write duplicate claim nbrs that have been removed to Excel [61]]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER.  The AcquireConnection method
call to the connection manager "Excel Connection Manager" failed with error code 0xC0202009.  There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the AcquireConnection method call failed.
The package will not run because of these multiple errors (multiple because it occurs on every single excel destination in the package).
I have Run64BitRuntime set to false on the project. I have triple checked that the excel file name (which I created and can access) exists with the correct name in the correct path, which is local on my machine. The file is the same file in the same
location as when the package worked.  I am running the SSIS service under my own network login, as I was when the package worked. I have been consistently getting this same error whenever I change my network password without updating the password
in the SSIS service, but I have triple verified that the service is using my latest password. If I try to open and edit the Excel Destination in any DataFlow task I get the same error. I can successfully create a new Excel Connection Manager pointing
to the same excel file. However if I try to assign the newly created Excel Connection Manager in the data flow, I cannot activate the drop down to choose the Excel sheet without getting an 'Unspecified error' message. I then swapped out
the file with its template version, and ensured the name was updated as correct. I still get the same errors.
Oh, and the SSIS package is extracting data from a SQL Server 2008 database with an ADO.net Connection Manager using Windows authentication. I have no problems with the SQL Server connection, it has always worked and still does.  It is only
the connection to excel output file which is locally stored on my machine.
Has anyone got any suggestions for me?

  • How to remove the date extensions from a filename in SSIS Flat File Connection Manager dynamically at run time

    Hello,
I have to load data from a csv file to SQL Database. The file is placed into a directory by another program but the file name being same, has different extensions based on time of the day that it is placed in the directory. Since I know the file name
ahead of time, so, I want to strip off the date/time extension from the file name so that I can load the file using Flat File Connection Manager. I am trying to use 'variable' and 'expression editor' so that I can specify the file name dynamically. But I
don't know how to write it correctly. I have a variable 'FileLocation' that holds the folder location where the file will be placed. The file for example:  MyFileName201410231230  (MyFileName always the same, but the date/time will be different)
    Thanks,
    jkrish

I don't want to use ForEach Loop because the files are placed by a FTP process 3 times a day at a specific time, for ex. at 10 AM, 12 PM and 3 PM. These times are pretty much fixed. The file name is same but the extension will have this day time stamp. I
have to load each file only once for a particular reason, meaning I don't want to load the ones I already loaded. I am planning on setting up the SSIS process to load at 10:05, 12:05 and 3:05 daily. The files will be piling up in the folder. As it comes,
I load them. At some point in time, I can remove the old ones so that they won't take up space in the server.  In fact, I don't have to keep the old ones at all since they are saved in a different folder anyways. I can ask the FTP process to
remove the previous one when the new one arrives. So, at any point in time, there will be one file, but that file will have different extensions every time.
I am thinking of removing the extensions before I load every time. If the file name is 'MyFileNamexxxxxxx.csv', then I want to change it to 'MyFileName.csv' and load it.
    Thanks,
    jkrish
You WILL need to use it eventually because you need to iterate over each file.
Renaming is unnecessary as one way or another you will need to put a processed file away.
And having the file with the original extension intact will also help you troubleshoot.

    Hi,
I have copied a number of SSID packages from a live server to my test server and am trying to get them up and running but I have a problem with the connection. The only thing that is different is the server name. I decided to keep the same connection in the connection manager as it is referenced in a dtsConfig file. I changed the dtsConfig file to reference the new servername [Data Source= new test server name]. I also check my paths and they are pointing to the correct config locations etc.
I found this post which was similar to my problem but I still get problems with the connection
    http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1319961&SiteID=1
I updated the connection by changing the server name in the actual connection. I did this from the data flow tab in the Connection Managers sections (MS Visual Studio). Right clicked - Edit - changed the name of the server name to my test server and selected the database. Test connection was fine, and saved this.
Once I saved this, the connection string changed to my current test server in the properties of the connection. However when I run the package I get the following error:
Error: 0xC0202009 at ReportsImport, Connection manager "myconnectionstring": SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR.  An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.

An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client"  Hresult: 0x80004005  Description: "Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [53]. ".

Error: 0xC0024107 at Myprocess import from file: There were errors during task validation.
So even if I change the existing connection properties and save and Build my package again, my connection properties (connectionstring, servername etc) all revert back to its original data source when I re-open the package. Simply it does not seem to be saving the connection properties i put in.
What am I doing wrong or how can I change the existing connection manager to look at the new server. The database is  the same and I have full admin privilege on the server.
I don't want to recreate my packages as there are alot and they are not simple.
After changing the connection properties, saving and reloading I get a connection error. But this is because it is not retaining the new connection manger setting i entered.
Incidentally - I created a new SSID to perform a simple connection and write to the the server and it was OK so there is no problem with actually seeing the my test server.
    Thanks in advance

Yes, the package is in visual studio and I have executed it. There are no errors but in the output i have the error message about my connection. My dtsConfig file is added to the project in the 'Package Configuration Organizer' and path and files are correct. This is the output error:
Error: 0xC020801C at xx import from file, xxReportsImport [79]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER.  The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "myconnectionname" failed with error code 0xC0202009.  There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the AcquireConnection method call failed.
I will try and run it using dtexec.exe. if I have two config files do i use
    dtsexec.exe /f <packagename> /conf <configfile> /conf <secondconfigfile>

  • AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager Excel connection Manager failed

I used VS Studio 2008 (BIDS version 10.50.2500.0) on an WinXp machine (v 5.1.2600 SP3 Build 2600) to create a package that writes multiple query results to different tabbed sheets of a single excel spreadsheet. The package was working just fine and has run
successfully multiple times, but all of a sudden when opening the project, every single Data Flow task with an Excel Connection Manager displayed error icons. Each raises the following error message when attempting to open the Advanced Editor:
SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005 Description: "Unspecified error". Error at DataFlow task name: SSIS error Code DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER. The AcquireConnection method

From the time I created the original package (when it worked fine) until now:
     1) I have been using the same computer, the same login account and the same permissions.
     2) I have been writing to the same (32 bit) 2010 Excel file (which I created) in a folder on my local machine.
     3) The filename and location have not changed; a template file is used each time to move and overwrite the previous file. Both are in the same locations.
     4) I can independently open the target Excel file and the template Excel files with no errors.
     6) The ConnectionString has not changed. The Connnection String I am using is
      Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=C:\Conversion\Conversion\Results_dt01.xlsx;Extended Properties="EXCEL 12.0 XML;HDR=YES;".
     7) Run64BitRuntime is set to False.
    8)  Delay Validation is set to true
    9) This is not running under a SQL job
    10) There are no child packages being run
I CAN create a NEW Excel Connection Manager, assigning it the exact same target Excel spreadsheet, successfully, but when I attempt to assign it to the Data Flow destination this error occurs:
"Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. Unspecified error."
Thinking that the driver might be corrupt, I opened a second SSIS package, which also uses the Excel Connection Manager (same driver) and this package continues to work fine on the same workstation with no errors.
I have searched online for causes of this error for many hours and found nothing that helps me to solve this issue.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Yes, I have verified that the Excel file is not in use or opened by anyone, including me. It has been two months since I opened this particular package, although I have been working with other packages in this project. I just discovered that another
package in the same project has the same problem - all Data Flows that output to an Excel Destination now have the same error icons. This second packages outputs to an entirely different Excel file than in the first package.  A summay:
Package #1 has error on every Excel Destination and uses templateA to overwrite fileA and then writes to fileA
Package #2 has error on every Excel Desintation and uses templateB to overwrite fileB and then writes to fileB
Package #3 has no error on any Excel Destination and is linked to multiple files (none are A or B)
Package #1 and #2 are in the same project, but Package #3 is in a separate project .
I will try replacing the Excel files with new ones for Package 1 and 2.

  • Set SSIS variable = database connection manager name

Is it possible to set a SSIS string to only the name of a database connection manager or even the connection string it uses ? I don't see an option for that in Evaluate as expression property of ssis variable.
This is what I mean -
SSIS Connection manager name = SQL_DBASE
SSIS String str_managerName = SSIS Connection manager name: Can you do this dynamically in SSIS ?

I'm guessing what they really want to do is evaluate some indicator (some input from a user or an infrastructure setting) and then dynamically connect to any one of 10 (arbitrary example) database servers based on what they get as input.  They
don't care about the connection manager per se.  What seems reasonable is the that the Connection Manager might take a server variable but if they wanted to do things like that they would have bought Datastage.
You might try attacking this problem at the Control Level and then connect to the database you want based on a variable you set.   I'm seeing that a Sequence Container can branch on the contents of a variable.
Or if the dba is your friend you might get the dba to add all your servers as linked servers to a central connection machine and then you might be able to do this by putting the ssis variable in a "Sql Command from a Variable" variable.
It might look something like this:
Server is designated in ssis var @[User::Machine]
    then executing from a variable
    "select top 100 * from " + @[User::Machine] + ".mydb.dbo.mytable"
Be careful as hades about levels of indirection and what quotes you want at what level.  Evaluate Expression in ssis helps with this.  The syntax I show works only with an ms sql connection server to a remote ms sql server.  This is what a
dynamic connection to a linked server connection to Oracle would look like:
    "select * from
    openquery("+ @[User::Machine] + ",'select * from oradb.oratable where rownum < 100')"
When ever a thousand of your best friends are helping you connect to your database (using tools like linked servers as opposed to direct connections) it's probably best to use with only small specific updates or queries, large queries or large
updates would probably take a long time and or might not finish.  But try it before you give up.   We are actually doing fairly large Oracle queries (5-10 million rows) through ms sql linked server.

  • Toll fraud traffic pumping on a Call manager express and unity express with an 800 toll free number.

I have a customer with a call manager express and a unity express. They have an 800 toll free number that rings in to an auto attendant on the CUE. The problem is something called toll fraud traffic pumping. The caller, always from a different number, reaches the auto attendant by dialing the 800 number. They then somehow manage to keep the line connected for up to 12 hours by somehow staying in the auto attendant. I opened a TAC case and was informed that it is not in Cisco's hands to create a way to disconnect a call that is connected to the CUE. I need a way to have a call that stays in the auto attendant or voicemail after 3 to 5 minutes. I can't see a way to do it in the auto attendant script. Can someone help with a method that will disconnect the caller if they stay in the CUE for a period of time?

Thank you for the response Jaime.
That is what TAC told me. I am not familiar with TCL scripting and I have been looking at some guides on it. Any advice on a source to go to for assistance with that, possibly someone to help?

  • Connection Manager Issue in SSIS 2008 version

    Hello Team,
I'm facing weird issue in SSIS 2008 version. In one SSIS package, whenever I open the connection manager and point the DEV server abd test the connection it is working. When I open again, it is throwing the below error eventhough I have access to the database.
"Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. Login failed for user"
    It's with Windows Authentication.
    Additional Details:
    Package configuration is disabled.
Connection manager has expression which is gettiing the details from variables that has DEV server details.

Are the variables having static values? or is the values getting passed through a parameter?

This topic first appeared in the Spiceworks Community

Much of Cisco's early SIP work involved proof of concept-proving that SIP worked in an IP telephony environment, with traditional features such as caller ID, call hold, call transfer, and three-way calling. Capabilities such as announcing a call transfer to the recipient before connecting the call (which involves setting up a media stream prior to connecting the call) had to be tested to make sure they would work through RTP streams and SIP-to-public switched telephone network (PSTN) gateways. Similarly, TDM out-of-band signaling (which passes information such as caller ID data) had to be passed via the SIP network.
Most of the early adopters of SIP technology were young service provider companies looking to differentiate themselves by providing IP-based services. They include Vonage, the IP-based telecommunications services provider that used Cisco SIP gateways and SIP analog telephone adapters (ATAs) to launch its service in 2001, and B2, a Swedish IP-based telephony service provider. But even companies such as Microsoft saw the promise of SIP as far back as 2001, when it launched the SIP-enabled Windows Messenger Update for its MSN .Net initiative. The Windows Messenger Update enabled MSN users to make SIP-enabled voice over IP (VoIP) calls from the MSN Messenger client, with Cisco providing the SIP infrastructure to Microsoft service provider partners.

    Hi,
    From note 243511.1 on metalink.
Correct the "Port Number" in Application Manager-Database Setup. This
value is the RoListenPortNumber setting in Express Instance Manager, Parameters-

  • Parameterising a connection manager

    Hi Experts,
I am having a master package to run my child packages.
Can I know what is the difference between
configuring the child connection manager to get value from parent package variable and
parameterising the connection string and map the parent variable to child parameter in master package?
Is there any difference between these two?
When I do parent variable configuration, every time i open the child package it will throw error ie design time validation errors. I want to avoid this poping up of errors.
    Any help please
    Regards
    mukejee

    Hi Mukejee,
Parameter is a new feature introduced in SSIS 2012. In a SSIS 2012 package, we can configure the Execute Package Task to map parent package variables or parameters, or project parameters, to child package parameters. To use parameters, the project must be
in project deployment model in which the project is deployed to the SSISDB catalog as a unit. In previous version of SSIS, we typically pass variables from parent package to a child package through adding a Parent package variable configuration in the child
package. It depends on your requirement and environment to determine which one to use and there should be no performance difference between the two approaches.
Regarding your issue, it occurs because the variable passed from the parent child cannot get the runtime value at design-time in the chide package. To avoid the error message, you can either specify any one valid value for the variable used by the ConnectionString
property in the child page or set the DelayValidation property of the target Connction Manager to True in the child package.

  • Remote Desktop Connection Manager can only open 6 sessions at a time on Server 2012

I am only able to open, and view thumbnails, for a maximum of 6 RDP sessions on my Server 2012 box at a time in Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCM). If I add more sessions I just get a variety of connection errors for the additional sessions. If I activate
a 7th session one of the existing 6 sessions goes off-line with a connection error message. Sometimes the error says 3334, sometimes the error says 0x8345000E, and sometimes it just says there is a connection error.
I have checked Group Policy on the server to ensure I don't have any settings restricting the number of RDP sessions.
In fact, I will often have 30 or 40 RDP simultaneous sessions opened, I am just not able to view them all in RDCM. I have seen reviews of RDCM with screenshots showing dozens of thumbnails so it seems to be something that's possible to do.
Are there any settings I should make on the server to allow RDCM to connect to more than 6 simultaneous RDP sessions?
Just to be clear, all these RDP sessions are running on the same server. Also, I am just using the trial license for Server 2012 and Remote Desktop Services right now. I don't think that should have an impact, but I wanted to be thorough.

Using AxImp.exe and TlbImp.exe didn't worked for me because it creates assemblies in wrong namespace "MSTSCLib" instead of "Interop.MSTSCLib" (AxImp.exe) and TlbImp.exe for changing namespace generated many "marshaled errors"
    so final .dll wasn't working.
Adding MSTSCAX.dll reference in Visual Studio directly created correct and functional assemblies. Who don't know how to create 64bit compatible assemblies or don't have Visual Studio, feel free to check linked file.
    Hope it helps
P.S. Sorry for possible technical misinterpretation, I am not programmer so creating new assemblies was trial-error process...

  • USB no longer available in Connection Manager afte...

Hi! I had the Init MediaControl2 problem, which I managed to fix after running through numerous reinstallations and cleaning (with the Nokia registry cleaner 3.3)
However I found that even though the PC suite is now installed, the USB is no longer shown as one of the options under Connection Manager. Also I found that there is no 'Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver' installed (checking the Add/Remove Program). I have only
    Nokia PC Suite
    Nokia Connectivity Solution
Tried to reinstall many times but never get Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver back. Here's what I've done so far
    - Repair
    - Used all options under Nokia Cleaner 3.3 - Deleted all registry entries that contain the word "PCSuite" or "Nokia" by using some registry management tools
    - Reinstalled PCS 6.7, and updated to 6.8
    - Used the regsrv32 on the dll that manages the USB connection - C:\Program Files\Common Files\PCSuite\Transports\NCLUSBMM.dll, but returned error 0x8040020
    - Tried to install older version of USB cable driver 1.59 but the installer said there's new version
    - Tried to reinstall the current "Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver" by taking the installer from other good PC, but it said PC configuration corrupted, contact nokia support
I'm very frustrated with this problem.. it took me 5 hours yesterday to work till 3am and it has still no cure! What I need is simple, a way to remove EVERYTHING by PC Suite, and have a clean installation which I can use the USB connection. I know I could use Bluetooth, but I just don't want to give in to this problem.
    My PC Specs
    Operating system:
Microsoft Windows XP Build 2600 Service Pack 2
    Language: English (United States)
    Nokia PC Suite: Version 6.80.20
    Language: English
Connectivity Cable Drivers: Unable to install!

Apple has never fully committed support of the Time Machine/Airport Extreme combination.  I have a Airport Extreme 6th gen that supposedly supports the Time Machine, (page 13 of the installation manual).  After a year of experience I have concluded that it does not work - period.  If you have any critical data on your system(s) I would recommend that you use a dedicated backup/recovery product like Carbon Copy Cloner.

  • Connecting managed server to cluster's administration server

    Hello,
I have a problem when trying to connect managed server to cluster's
    administration server.
When starting the managed server I get a security exception:
    [javax.naming.AuthenticationException [Root exception is
java.lang.SecurityException: Administrators must log in over admin port with
    admin protocol.]]
    weblogic.management.configuration.ConfigurationException: admin URL:
    t3://192.168.14.15:7001 - with nested exception:
    [javax.naming.AuthenticationException [Root exception is
java.lang.SecurityException: Administrators must log in over admin port with
    admin protocol.]]

    at weblogic.t3.srvr.T3Srvr.run(T3Srvr.java:169)
    at weblogic.Server.main(Server.java:35)
I get the same result when testing the connection setup with
java weblogic.Admin -url 192.168.14.15:7001 -username system -password xyz
    CONNECT 1
    Background for this problem:
I'm trying to evaluate WLS6.0 clustering for my RMI services. I have two
machines setup with my test domain (DEdomain) and one cluster (DECluster)
    within it.
In administration server (machine A) I defined two servers to be run in
    machine A and machine B:
DEserver2 in machine B (to be started as managed server) and DEserver3
    in machine A
I'm going to bind a same service into these above servers of my DECluster.
    In machine B's startManagedWeblogic.sh I have:
    java -ms64m -mx64m -classpath
    $CLASSPATH -Dweblogic.Domain=DEdomain -Dweblogic.Name=$SERVER_NAME -Dweblogi
    c.management.server=$ADMIN_URL -Djava.security.policy==$WL_HOME/lib/weblogic
    .policy -Dweblogic.management.username=system -Dweblogic.management.password
    =$WLS_PW weblogic.Server
In machine A I have administration server DEserver1 listening port 7001.
And for the domain and cluster building I followed all relevant e-docs
manual pages. It's still somewhat blurry what kind of preparations I have to
make in managed server side to join the domain; for example do I have to
have identical domain directory structure within machine B and do I have to
configure something with admin console or is everything handled by
connecting to the administation server and reading the domain's config.xml
    from machine A.
I'm sure I have missed some fundamental idea for building clustered services
and would greatly appreciate if someone had any good tips or ideas.
    Best regards,
    Harri

    Hi Kumar,
and thank you. That fixed my problem

It appears you had set the administration port & listen port on the admin
    server.
Logging onto admin server via admin port is broken currently. I wouldsuggest
you to set only listen port
    and see how that goes.
