Connection problem at physical layer

Hi,
i have an Oracle 11g database and I'm trying to connect and create a physical layer using OBIEE 10g. However, the database tables are not shown after the connection creation. Any reasons why?
Thank you.

Hi Geri,
Are you able to connect to the database?
If you are connected you do not see any table? Any table or a specific table? Does the user who connects to the database from Oracle BI EE enough rights to see the tables?
Thanks

  • Multiple joins Problem in Physical Layer.

I have two tables Departments and Employees in the physical layer of admin tool. When i am trying

    Scenario:
    Departments
    ===========
    Department_id (PK)
    Manager_id (FK)
    Employees
    ========
    Employee_id (PK)
    Department_id (FK)
    Manager_id (FK)
    1. Manager_id of Departments table references Employee_id of Employees table
    2. Department_id of Employees table references Department_id of Departments table.
    3. Manager_id of Employees table references Employee_id of Employees table.
I have done 1st one. After 2nd one i have tested for consistency check, the following error is coming:
[38015] Physical tables "Oracle DB Connection".."HR"."EMPLOYEES" and "Oracle DB Connection".."HR"."DEPARTMENTS" have multiple joins.
Delete new foreign key object if it is a duplicate of existing foreign key.
    How to solve this?
How to do 3rd one also?
    Please clarify.

    Hi,
I have created two alias tables (E1 Employees, D1 Departments) for Employees, Departments tables.
I have created foreign key joins as follows:
    D1 Departments:
    EMPLOYEES.EMPLOYEE_ID = "D1 DEPARTMENTS".MANAGER_ID
    E1 Employees:
    EMPLOYEES.EMPLOYEE_ID = "E1 EMPLOYEES".MANAGER_ID
and it is consistent also. Please let me know whether the above approach is right or not.

  • Read data using 2 diff connection pool for same DB folder in physical layer

    Hi All,
i am using two connection pool which have different dsn connection information (both are directed to different database name or database server)..
so if i view the data of any table, a prompt will come asking for the connection pool, so how do i automize it....?
how do i set the different connection pool for different tables?
please let me know if u need further informtaion to understand my problem..
    thnx...

    thnx Stijn..
    yupe that i know...
actually i have total of around 300 tables in physical layer (in both the schemas..) , around 12 fact and 100 dimension tables in bmm and same in the presentation layer...
so i think u can guess how many joins and other stuff, i have made in my bmm layer..
if now i will start modifying all this it will take lot of time...
i am just wondering that there is no alternative for this...
as when i check my data from the physical layer then a prompt ask for the connection pool (i have already made two connection pool..) so there could be some alternative way to automize the default connection pool setting for the tables/schemas folders in case if more than one connection pool exits under the same database in the physical layer...
    isn't it?
    thnx again..

  • Not able to update row count in Physical Layer..connection failed in OBIEE 11g

    Hi Guys,
I am not able to do Update Row count in the Physical Layer, i am getting an error The Connection has failed. This is in OBIEE 11g Linux env.
I have put the tnsnames.ora file in the below path:
    /*****/pkgs/linux/intel/OBIEE_DIT/MW_HOME/Oracle_BI1/network/admin/
I do not have admin under
    /****/pkgs/linux/intel/OBIEE_DIT/MW_HOME/oracle_common/network/
But if i put the whole TNS entry in the Data Source Name i am able to connect:
    (DESCRIPTION =(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL= TCP) (HOST= xxx.xxx.com) (PORT= 1671))(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = US1OBIEE)))
I am not able to understand the issue..
    Thanks,

Looks like rpd is looking for local tns config... try to use as hostname:port/ServiceName
This should work, just in case not working! stop doing so since it is know issue.

  • Creating views in Physical Layer of OBIEE Administration Tool

    Hello,
I am doing a proof of concept of creating an OBIEE repository using the Administration Tool to make a model for an in house sandbox OLTP system. Because this POC isn't using a warehouse that is built nicely with everything I need, I am having to import the OLTP tables into the Physical Layer and then create a few extra views (by creating a new physical table object and selecting "Table Type: Select") to add some new columns I will need.
My problem is that once I have created two views 'ViewA' and 'ViewB', I want to then create a third view 'ViewC' that is the union of 'ViewA' and 'ViewB'. But when I create ViewC from these two views and try to then update row count or view data in newly created ViewC, I get an error message of the effect:
Message 208: Invalid object name 'DBO.ViewA'
Message 208: Invalid object name 'DBO.ViewB'
When I try and create ViewC with DBO.OriginalTableA and DBO.OriginalTableB, however, it works just fine. And I am also able to successfully update row count and view data in ViewA and ViewB independently. So it seems to me like a view initialization problem when trying to have ViewC be created from A and B.
Am I trying to do something that is not allowed in the Physical Layer of the BI Admin Tool? I would think that I should be able to work with views just like actual physical tables from my OLTP. Maybe not.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

    Hi Hammett81 ,
I think, I have given configured connection pool correct. (following Oracle guidelines: 'In the Connection Pool dialog box, on the General tab, verify that the call interface is set to Default (OCI 10g) and change the data source name to the appropriate tnsnames.ora entry ( ORCL in this example). Please note that this is the TNS service name, not the ODBC DSN. ' )
I tried to give ODBC DSN (SH) as call interface, which resulted in an Error dialogue, implying, previous configuration was correct.
    So, I reverted back.

  • OBIEE Administrator: bug in Physical Layer import fo Sybase IQ?

    Hi!
In OBIEE Administrator, in the Physical Layer, I defined a Database Object (as a Syabase IQ 12.7) and its connection pool for a Sybase IQ 12.6 Database. I created the ODBC driver (for Sybase IQ 12.5 and also tried with IQ 12.7 drivers) in Windows and used it in the connection pool.
When I use the Import functionality, to read the tables and columns, it works fine...apparently. At least, the Physical Layer appears filled with all the tables I selected. But the "+" sign (which denotes that the table has columns, right?) appears only for some tables. And when expand those tables, the columns appear. However, for those tables (and any other table) when I right-click and select either Update Row Count or View Data, OBIEE Administrator shows an error message saying that the table does not exist:
[nQSError: 16001] ODBC Error state: S0002 code: -141 message: [Sybase][ODBC Driver][Adaptive Server IQ]Table 'EVENTS' not found.
If I edit the table properties in the Physical Layer and prefix its name with the schema name (ex.: instead of "EVENTS" I rename it to "rpt.EVENTS') it works fine...
But I only have this problem for these table of Sybase IQ. I imported tables from an SQL Server 200 database, and all works fine: a "+" sign for all tables, I select view data and it returns results, etc.
    HELP!!!!
    Thanks.

    hi!
Problem solved. Here is the solution:
    - You want to access a Sybase IQ 12.6 database through ODBC, in Oracle BI Administrator, in the Physical Layer, in order to import tabes and columns and keys and etc, don't user neither Sybase IQ ODBC driver version 12.5 nor version 12.7. Use version 12.6! :)

  • Joining tables across databases in OBIEE Physical Layer

I was facing this problem of joining tables across databases in Physical layer of OBIEE admin tool.
I had a requirement to combine two tables from 2 different databases A and B respectively. I had created one database object (OBIEE Object) in the physical layer and I had created two connection pools under that pointing to the required databases. I was able to view the data (right click on the table object --> popup menu option "View Data" ) though I had to go through the "Select connection Pool" window and select the required connection pool. I was able to join the tables and was able to complete the star schema in BMM and bring them up to the presentation layer. Conistency check was also successful. Everything went fine so far.
But when I started building the report, I started getting error whenever I chose the table which was supposed to be queried by using the second connection pool. The error message was something like "table or view does not exist at OCI call OCIStmtExecute". I assume that this was happening because the systm was not able to understand which connection pool to choose (because there were two pools defined under one database object) and by default the server was choosing the first one. If anybody is having a different opinion or definite information about this, kindly update with your reply.
I could resolve this problem after creating a separate database object with a separate connection pool defined under it, which points to the second database. Imported the required table under this database object. (Infact it was reverse. When I re-imported the table, OBIEE Admin tool, by default created its own database object and the connection pool separately for the imported table).
Once this was done then I went ahead as usual by joining the tables across these two different database objects and modelling was already done (ofcourse with a little more tweaking since the mapping had to be redone between BMM and Physical layers). Now I could build the report in the reporting layer without encountering any error.
Appreciate and welcome any further additions/updations/corrections regarding this issue(?).

    Hi,
I'm confused about the last bit, you did a database import to get the tables into the RPD, which worked, but now they are not showing in the phsyical layer of the rpd? They should be there under a database with the name of the ODBC/OCI that you used when you imported them.
If they are not there then this would make me think that the import of the tables has not worked, try importing just one and see what happens.

  • 64 bit OBI Connection problem

    Hi all,
I have a problem with oracle bi-database connection. Currenty when I try to import from ODBC 3.5 datasource what oraclebi shows me does not exist in ODBC connection, and also when I added a new odbc connection to system dsn I cannot see it from Oracle BI. It is like looking to entirely different machine.
Computer is 64 bit windows. I installed OBISE1, in installation both oracle and obi software were installed succesfully but I had a problem when it was trying to create the sample bise1db database(credential retrieval failed). Then I installed 64 bit oracle software, pachted it to 10.2.0.4 and created the database instance(I received the same error when creating 64 instance but I updated sqlnet.ora and I successfully created instance).
I restated Oracle BI services but now Oracle BI is behaving like it is not in the same computer I am looking at. It is not possible to import from ODBC 3.5 because it is not seeing System DSN connections. I also tried to create new database and connection pool and manually configure in the physical layer but still I get connection errors.
Currenty there are two oracle software in the computer, 32bit 10g and 64 bit 10g and only one instance that is created with 64 bit software.
I am not sure it was a mistake to install OBISE1 software to 64 bit machine.
    Any help would be appreciated..

I assume that when solaris 10 boots up, it only checks the land line NIC card, not the wireless card. If there is no lan connection, then so be it.
    Is that right?No! :-)
nwam only supports one device but the device is selectable. physical should activate all devices regardless. So if your Wifi isn't working then I would use wificonfig to see what it can see. Check the man page for scan and showstatus options. Then you'll know what it's seeing.

  • Unable to view data in Physical layer of RPD

I have OBIEE installed on my local machine using Oracle 10g as the database installed on a remote machine. I am able to create the DSN and test the connection pool on my local machine.
The Call interface is OCI 10g in the connection pool. I am able to import tables into the database in the Physical layer of the repository but when I try to VIEW Data in the physical layer, it throws me an error stating,
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor at OCI call OCILogon.
nQsError: 17014 Could not connect to Oracle Database.
I have oracle 10g client installed on my local machine. I am able to view the tables and the data from SQL PLus. In OBIEE i am able to import tables but cannot view data.
Any suggestions on what could be causing this?

Sounds like one of my common issues. After you do the import, go back and check the connection pool. What I typically run into is that it has switched to the OCI connection rather than the ODBC connection used for the import, but it is still using the name of the ODBC DSN that was used for the import. Change it to the TNS name or the host:port/service and try again.

  • IPOD CONNECTIVITY PROBLEM WITH WINDOWS XP VIA USB 2.0

    Enough is enough.
I have an ipod touch and I am having difficulty connecting it to my pc via usb 2.0.
I have searched the entire web and came across many cases similar or the same as mine. It's time for apple to face the fact that there is something wrong with either the apple mobile service or the apple usb drivers or the itunes software that causes connectivity problems with win xp.
For the record my case is this:
I got my itouch 3 days ago. I installed itunes 8.0. Then I plugged in my ipod to a usb extension cable port connected to a usb at the back of my desktop computer. At first I got the "this usb device can perform faster if you plug it to a usb 2.0 port etc." message. So I did. I removed the extension cable and connected it directly to one of the usb ports at the back. The first time it synchronized, it seemed fine. So I decided before I do anything with it, to update it to the 2.1 version. I made my account and bought (very bad policy there apple, it should be free or at least cheeper than 8 euro) the 2.1 update. I clicked to update the i-touch. While it was updating it crashed during the restore process (because it was disconnected but I didn't know that at the time). I unplugged it, resetted and plugged it back and managed to continue the restoring process until it was updated. After figuring out itunes I chose the "manage files manually option", kept everything unchecked in the sync options except the applications. I noticed there were random disconnections here and there but I didn't pay much attention because they weren't very frequent.
The next day I plug in the touch again and suddenly I hear that annoying "connecting-disconnecting" sound from windows while my touch kept disappearing and reappearing in itunes. Suddenly my playlists disappeared from the touch. Nothing was in the touch any more. How could that happen since i had chosen to manage my files manually instead of synchronizing? So I unplugged the touch again, restarted the touch, restarted the pc, stopped and restarted the apple mobile service, unistalled and reinstalled itunes, searched microsoft support and read many usb troubleshooting documents in the web. Nothing happened. The touch randomly keeps disconnecting from the usb. I eventually managed to put my stuff back in and keep them there.
    Here's what I know:
    1) There is nothing wrong with my usb ports. I don't use usb hubs, they are usb 2.0, the voltage (500mA) is correct in the device manager. Everything else works fine there.
    2) The ipod touch does not support disk mode so you can't see it under "my computer" and this is not a problem.
3)There is nothing wrong with the ipod, it works perfectly.
    4) This is not a usb cable physical problem.
    5) The five R's are irrelevant with this situation.
Uninstalling and reinstalling itunes doesn't solve the problem, neither does hard resetting the ipod.
    6) Older PC configurations seem to be more affected by this but it doesn't have to do with unsupported specific chipsets.
    Here's what needs investigating:
    1) There may be a problem with the apple mobile service running on win XP.
    2) There may be a problem with the apple usb driver and win XP or older motherboards.
    3) There may be a 2.1 firmware issue with usb 2.0 connectivity.
Workaround so you don't go nuts:
Use USB 1.1 instead of 2.0. It is A LOT slower but it keeps the connection stable and you can work with the ipod. Just start copying and go do something else for the next hour. So far it works for me.
This is a serious issue that needs immediate attention. I've stumbled across forum discussions dating to 2005 with this problem (with older ipods of course).

I think this needs to be put down to the eternal PC/Mac argument. Apple dont want to fix this as they want everyone to buy a Mac. Its a business, understandable, but in turning away PC buyers they alienate a huge percentage of the market.
Now, I had my first iTouch stolen. It synced, for the most part, very well, just occasionally it removed settings and music, but ticking boxes each time I sync'd sorted that, Its a workflow procedure.
SO, now that my Touch has been replaced, iTunes cannot see it. The PC can identify it on USB1 or USB2, My work lap top can see it and has indeed upgraded it to V2 software, just in case that was the issue, but no. For some really weird reason Itunes on my desktop cannot see the new pod.
This does not make sense with the argument that Apple software doesnt work on a PC, but doesnt help that none of the Apple support staff, phone or in-store have a clue about Windows operations.
Because my Touch has now been trying to connect to 6 separate installs of itunes, multiple USB ports, multiple USB cables, a complete overhaul of the registry settings (everything else still works), and the loss of all my previous settings and backups from the last Touch... but still, the PC says its an ipod but cant install it, iTunes sits there, dumb.
The only thing I can do now is sell the device as brand new as it has never had music on it and is just a week old...
It has changed the MiniMac I was going to have for my new flat screen TV into a PC and suggests that anyone with a PC should stick to devices that run on PC, of which there are many, just without the user interface of the dear departed IPod Touch.
    Thanks

  • Problem with BMM layer warning messages.

    Hi,
I have modelled with the following tables in BMM layer.
Dimension tables: Regions,Countries,Departments, locations, Employees, jobs, job history
Fact table: HR Facts (measured columns like salary, max salary, min salary, commission)
The model is consistent with the following warnings:
Logical dimension table REGIONS has a source REGIONS that does not join to any fact source.
Logical dimension table DEPARTMENTS has a source DEPARTMENTS that does not join to any fact source.
Logical dimension table COUNTRIES has a source COUNTRIES that does not join to any fact source.
Logical dimension table LOCATIONS has a source LOCATIONS that does not join to any fact source.
and also in the answers section (Presentation services) i could not able to view data, it's giving the following error (when i am trying to display REGION NAME field values)
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 14026] Unable to navigate requested expression: REGIONS.REGION_NAME. Please fix the metadata consistency warnings. (HY000).
I could not able to trace the problem where exactly is to be fixed.
    regards
    chandra kanth.

    Hi,
Thanks for the information. Ideally that works out without any hierarchies. But the problem with which i was facing is somewhat different.
Let me explain the problem scenario exactly:
I have an employee, region tables in physical layer. Employee table has SALARY Column. Region table dont have any
join with Employee table. In BMM layer i have created a fact table "HR Facts" and crated a logical fact column SALARY.
The logical fact table source is Employee table. I have drag dropped Region table into BMM layer and joined with HR
Facts table. While consistency check its given a warining message: Logical dimension table REGIONS has a source
REGIONS that does not join to any fact source.
    What is the problem exaclty?

  • Probelm Addind new Table in Physical Layer, Create Dim in Business Model ..

I have completed a task for a dash board, that is running sucessfully.
Now I added a new table in "physical layer", (file->import->from database), table added successfully
Now, I droped this table in "business model", but when I want to create its dimension, there is no any option (when I right click on this table)
    there are two cases
    case 1:
I did not added modified fact table (with foreign key of new table) in "physical layer" and not in "business model and mapping"
    case 2:
I added new table and modified "fact table (with foreign key of new table)" in "physical layer" and "business model and mapping"
but in both cases there is no "create dimension" button to create dimension
Please let me know the how to solve this problem, kindly define it in steps
    thanks

    Hi thr,
Create Dimensions is only available if the selected logical table is a dimension table (defined by 1:N logical joins) and no dimension has been associated with this table.
In you case, once you have imported the table successfully in physical layer, then join your table to fact table. Drag n drop in BMM under a new logical table and then join it to BMM Logical fact using complex join. Now, if you right click, you see the last option as 'Create Dimension'
    Hope you find it useful..

  • How to see the tables which are in the physical layer of SampleAppLite rpd

    Hi Everyone,
I am new to OBIEE and I installed OBI Apps with Oracle 11g in my laptop. I tried to create reports using the OracleBIAnalyticsApps rpd. How can I know from which schema the tables are coming in the physical layer of the repository so that I can create a connection pool to the database. I got the default SampleAppLite rpd when I install the OBIEE but I am unable to see those tables in the database schema which are used in the SampleAppLite physical layer. Can anyone tell me how can I see the tables in the database which I see in the rpd. Actually my question may be wrong as I am new to this field, so please let me know if this is a wrong question. As I unable to express my question correctly. Thanks.

For the OracleBIAnalyticsApps rpd - the tables are under "Catalog" then "dbo" in database "Oracle Data Warehouse" in the physical layer. The RPD comes out of the box with the required connection pools - you dont need to create any. The connection pools "Oracle Data Warehouse Repository Initblocks Connection Pool" and "Oracle Data Warehouse Connection Pool" in "Oracle Data Warehouse" read the data from the business analytics warehouse that you created in a schema name of your choosing with the DAC. All you need to do is edit the user name and password and the data source name with a connect string - which is the local net service name to your database for default call interface OCI 10g/11g assuming you used an Oracle database for your warehouse. One way to test the connection pool is to right click any table/alias then "Update Row Count".
BTW Using the Admin Tool open the OracleBIAnalyticsApps rpd then do "Tools" then "Utilities" then "Repository Documentation" then "Execute". This will create a spreadsheet showing you all the mappings from the presentation to business to physical layers.

  • How to Move from CSV to Table in Physical layer in Best possible way

We had a project which had the source (physical Layer) as CSV. Now there are moving from CSV to a Table in the Database.
Can anyone guide through the best possible way to complete the task
    With Regards!
    Steve

Create a new Database node in the Physical layer with connection pool, create a schema folder and drag your CSV object into the new database - All your BMM mappings and hence Presentation objects will move over seamlessly.
Might be an idea to simply reverse engineer / import any object from your database to initially create your database connection / tree then simply drag the CSV into it.
    Hope this helps,
    Alastair
