Connection Problems after accessing router page

Hi everyone. A while back, I accidentally flagged my Kindle Fire as an intruder on Network Magic - even though I had unmarked it, I still wasn't able to log on to my wireless network on the Fire. Tonight I was able to access my router's settings page and unblocked the device from my laptop. As I was saving the settings, though, my laptop was kicked off the network and hasn't been able to reconnect since. I have tried System Restore, rebooting the laptop and the router, and accessing. The routed page with the Fire to see if I had blocked it by accident. No luck. Any advice and input would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the misunderstanding: the laptop is able to connect to the internet just fine when it's connected directly to the modem. When I try connecting it directly to the router, however, it is not able to connect to the network.  Each time I try connecting to the router's LAN, I get a Windows error message telling me that Windows was unable to connect to the network.  I have tried going through the power cycle in the article you first sent me several times - each time the results are the same.  I don't have a computer apart from this one.  I had tried connecting to the wireless using a Cisco USB Wireless card from an old computer - I think this might have worked, but I got an error message saying that the device software was not able to install.  If you think this is an option worth pursuing until I'm able to get my wireless card checked by a professional, I'll probably end up buying a new USB card first chance I get.  My router model is WRT120N.
As I said, this happened when I was changing the settings on the router page - the laptop was  able to connect to the wireless just fine until I clicked "save changes" on the router page.

  • Timeouts and connection problems after 5.1(2) upgrade

AIM/chat and some other programs are having timeout/connection problems after upgrade to 5.1(2). I am using S241 also. The connection problems stopped when the IPS was set to bypass. Rebuilt IPS and left sigs at default settings and problem is still happening. I am not seeing any of the IPs that are having the problem in the Event Viewer or on the Events in the IDM.
Any known issues with the 5.1(2) that would cause this type of problem?

I don't know specifically, but I did notice that 5.1(3) was released today.

  • Problems after wireless router (WRT310n) firmware update.

I updated the firmware on my wireless router (wrt310n) yesterday and now I am having major issues connecting my laptop to it via wireless.  After the update, I reset the router as well as unplugged the power source.  Once the update and everything was reset, I re-entered all my settings and set the computers back up using the LELA.  I go to change the laptop to wireless and it says it can't connect to it.  I did the LELA update on the laptop thinking that would fix it, but it didn't help.  However, the whole time I am able to connect to the router using a ethernet cable.  I turned off all of the encryption settings, firewalls, and broadcasted my SSID.  I searched this forum for some help and one topic suggested somethings, which I did, and I was able to connect wirelessly with the encryption.  I thought I was done and set-up, until later that evening.  I turned the computer back on only to see the same problem again.  I decided to deal with it the next day (today) by uninstalling LELA and just using Windows to configure my wireless settings.  As soon as I uninstalled LELA, entered the key into the Windows program, it worked like a charm.  Until tonight, when I turned on the computer.  Now I'm connecting to the network wirelessly, but it says "Limited or no connectivity."  Acting like there is no encryption key entered.  I go to "View Wireless Networks" and it says "WIndows cannot configure connection.  If you have another program to manage this wireless connection, use that software."  The thing is, I don't have another program on here to manage a wireless connection.  Sorry for the long post.  I figured if I didn't type everything out, people would have just asked me questions.  I had no problems with this router until I did the update yesterday.  If it can't be fixed, is there a way to revert back to the old firmware?  Thanks in advance.

Well you should adjust the Wireless Settings on your router...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bit.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Before you attempt to connect to your wireless network you should first check your Programs menu if there is any Wireless Program(like 'Intel Proset' , 'Dell Wireless WLAN' , or anything that gives you a clue of a Wireless Program/Utility/Software)...You should use the Wireless Utility/Software(if any) to connect to your wireless network and not the Windows default Wireless Program to avoid any conflicts...

  • How many of us are having problems with accessing web pages?

For five days I have been having problems accessing web pages, constantly getting the message
Safari can't connect to server etc. etc. It takes me ages just to get to one page without permanently returning to the previous one & trying again. I have tried to use these support pages & find it increasingly difficult to just open a page let alone post anything. If this works I'll be amazed!
I have checked with my ISP - British Telecom. who say there have been a lot of "worms" & 'viruses" across the internet in the last week. Has Safari been contaminated or is it just the www that is the problem? Has anybody at Apple investigated this problem?
I am getting increasingly frustrated by the whole thing as nobody seems to come up with a viable answer. Even if Safari is at fault it would be nice to know where we stand & that somebody is trying to do something about it!

Thanks for that suggestion petitbjs. I think all is OK now. It started without warning, I hadn't changed anything, I just tend to use everything on the computer as it came, I'm a bit chicken to change anything incase I mess it up!!
    Starman et al,
I had to phone BT this evening when I found my internet wireless phone wasn't connecting when I dialled out, it was the same yesterday evening but as I was trying to phone my son in Rio & was expecting him to move house at any time, I thought he might have had the phone disconnected, or it was just something wrong their end as I had the dialling tone OK & assumed the phone was fine. I have been using the landline, both of which go through the Home Hub, all through the last week without any problems.
Eventually the BT man had me unplugging the Hub from the mains whilst holding down the Wireless Association button, after which it was OK, however during all this (apart from when it was unplugged, obviously) I still had uninterrrupted internet service as I had to log into the BT website to check the configuration or something, & the chap seemed to think the phone's hub problem would have had nothing to do with my internet problem over the past few days.
Anyway, things seem to be fine now, I'll just hope it stays that way but at least I can try the unplugging trick if I have similar problems in the future.
Once again, thank you all for your help & suggestions, it is a great comfort to me knowing that I have these boards to call on for assistance on virtually any problem I have with my Mac. Before he moved to Rio I could cry "Help" to my son too, hopefully once they move & get set up with an internet connection next week we will be able to video chat (the whole reason I bought the new Mac!).
    Many thanks to all,
    Carol.

  • WiFi Internet connectivity problems after upgrade to 10.8.4

After upgrading to MacOS 10.8.4 I am facing regular interruptions to my WiFi internet connectivity. Periodically the internet connectivity is lost and the only way to fix the problem is to turn WiFi off and on again. This happens frequently when I am downloading files at using big bandwidth (more than 1.5-2 MB/s). If I use assist me on the Network preferences tab, it displays an ISP error when the connectivity is down, however I am certain that I do nota have any kind of ISP or router issue since at the same time I have WiFi internet connectivity from my iPad mini, iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S3. Therefore it should be a 10.8.4 issue

  • Dial-up connect problem after 10.4.9 update

After installing the 10.4.9 update it has been very difficult to connect to the dial-up internet server. It may take 19 tries clicking "Connect" before it connects and sometimes it connects after four tries. The error messages vary: unable to connect to PPP or no carrier detected are the most frequent messages. Once on-line everything works fine except for being able to send mail. I'm unable to send mail - that error message wants the SMTP server settings and any advanced settings checked.
I called Apple support and the Apple Tech had me reconfigure the Network to dial an "800" number to a PPP Dial-Up Test Site. When that worked succussfully a window displayed a message that the modem, the PPP or Remote Access software, the TCP/IP software is functioning and correctly configured for a PPP connection to this server. The Apple Tech checked the information on the 10.4.9 upgrade and did not find any reason to think it would cause this problem. Apple Tech suggested I contact the dial-up server.
The dial-up server went over all the configurations and they were all correct. During my phone call to them they could hear the computer dial-up sounds and said it sounded like the normal "hand-shake". The dial-up server has had no reports of problems with connecting to their service other than mine.
If anyone knows what could have caused this problem, how to fix it or has the same problem I'd be very interested in hearing from them.
    Thanks, AppleProblem

You have been most helpful and we think the problem is solved. After I send this message explaining what has transpired I'll go back and click on the "Solved" button.
Based upon your suggestion to try "Script, like v32" I started experimenting with the four internal modem options we have in our Modem settings. They are v.32, v.34, v.90 and v.92. I tried to connect three different times with each one. The v.32 didn't connect, the v.34 connected all three times, the v.90 connected the first two but not the third or the fourth try. On the fifth attempt the Mac froze up, the mouse/arrow wouldn't work and there was a high speed motor sound. I tried a Force Quit (Option,Command,Escape), I tried a Hard Shut Down (holding the power key) and when these didn't work I pulled the plug. Then, I booted back up and connected on the second try using the v.90. I don't know why the computer froze up and assume it is nothing to be concerned about.
I then called our ISP and found that the two access numbers are both v.90. I suspect that until we did the version upgrade to the 10.4.9 that our computer was accommodating the v.90 eventhough it was a v.92 (!?!). Just a guess.
I also asked the ISP tech why we couldn't send mail. He asked if we had the password set for the outgoing mail. He said if we're using the access number owned by them it didn't require a password but the other access number is not owned by them and is used by other ISPs and it does require a password. We had never set up our Mail Preferences outgoing mail settings to use a password. Before our connect problems we had always used the number owned by them and after the connect problems we started using the other number because we found that we could connect to it with fewer attempts. We put in the necessary information and now have no problem sending mail.
We have also been looking for another ISP and the web site you gave us www.fastermac.net looks very promising. They have one access number in our area and we want to check if it is v.92 or v.90. During our research for an ISP we learned that if it is a v.92 access number (and we use our v.92 modem) we'll be able to answer phone calls and remain online. That will be a real blessing. Thanks!
We really appreciated your brain storming with us and your perseverance. Thanks so much!

  • Internet connection problem after migrating from Powerbook G4

After starting up my friend's new Macbook 2ghz for the first time, I migrated everything from his old Powerbook G4. However on starting the machine for the first time, although the Internet Status suggested his Airport connection to his Netgear router was working and that he was connected to the Internet, this was not the case, as the registration info could not be sent to Apple, the time/date wouldn't update and he could not browse or check e-mail.
Initially it occurred to me that perhaps the Netgear router didn't like the fact that the same Network settings (IP address) had been given to the Macbook when it had a different MAC address. However this didn't seem to be the case as I was able to add the new Macbook to the list of trusted devices and turn on Access Control, but this still didn't work
Eventually when I turned off the security settings, so that the password was set to "none", instead of WPA/PSK and then did likewise for the named network on the computer, I was able to get online at long last
However I don't want to leave the wi-fi system without any password protection for obvious reasons. His Netgear router is a newer model than mine and it had a choice of WPA2, and when I tried this and did likewise on the Macbook it was still working. Yet the matter gets more complicated as he also has a PC on the same wi-fi network and this would not accept the WPA2 setting on the router and I could not get online with the PC
I dont understand why WPA2 worked on the Macbook but WPA didn't and I need to find a password setting that works for both computers. I don't really understand the WEP option as the encryption choices are 64 and 128 but there's no 64 on the Macbook. More importantly I don't have the foggiest how to get a desired password, as when you put in a "passphrase' and click "generate" the router produces four different keys which are all decidedly impossible to remember and so totally impractical if you need to use these to log on.
I appreciate that this is a bit of a confusing query but if anyone can offer any assistance., I would be extremely grateful, as after all the time it took me today to suss out actually getting his new Macbook online, I am loathe to mess around without really knowing what I am doing and so I need to find a security option that can be used by the Macbook, his older Powerbook and a PC running Windows XP
With my utmost thanks in advance for any help you can offer, but please bear in mind I'm a bit of a techno-nincompoop so please be gentle with me
    Many thanks
    Bernard

Thanks a million for bothering to reply, it's very much appreciated. I rarely seem to get much success when I try searching in Apple support but I guess that must be because I choose the wrong search terms.
Since all the equipment is relatively new and quite high spec, I believe I should be able to use the WPA format and it's a matter of finding an arrangement that works with both the PC and the Macs. What I don't understand is why the Macbook appeared to be connected to the internet with a WPA password, but wouldn't in fact get online, until I either changed to no password, or to WPA2?
However I'm extremely grateful to you because those docs all proved well worth reading, if only so I might understand some of the technical gobbledigook (the avoidance of which was one of the principal reasons I became a Mac evangelist in the first place), as the whole password encryption thing has always been a complete mystery to me, hence for my own wi-fi set-up, I long ago settled for hiding the network and turning on the trusted devices access control, just to avoid having to deal with any of this technobabble. However my mate wants people to be able to log on to his network if they turn up with a laptop, but at the same time prevent totally open access to his internet connection to all and sundry, so this is not an option.
What really bugs me is that the interface for the Netgear modem/router (and any other router I've had experience with) never seems to work properly on an Apple, no matter what browser I use and having sold his family on the whole Apple experience, it's usually a bit embarrassing to have to squeeze my mercifully narrow backside into a baby's chair in order to use their PC to resolve any router issues (as the PC is only there for the kids to play games). But invariably it's only by using the browser interface on the PC that all the various options seem to work
Again much appreciate you going to the bother and the fact that there is relevant stuff in the support library leads me to believe I should attempt to find some more details which might resolve the WPA difficulties I've experienced with the new Macbook.
Meanwhile, although I am not so keen on the new glossy screen on the Macbook (I'm amazed you can't have the option of a matt one unless you get a bigger Macbook Pro), you've no idea how envious I am having to set up his new toy when I can't afford one myself. Mind you, the last time I told this bloke that if he wanted decent support for his iPod, he'd have to buy me one, he returned from the US with a 60gb model to match his (sadly pre-video iPods), so perhaps I should make matters more complicated by installing Boot Camp and Windows, so that I have to tell him that I can't offer support over the phone without one of my own
    Kind Regards

  • Does any-one experience wifi connection problems after update to ios5?

Since the update to IOS5 I have to do all my internet seaches via 3G network, since my iphone 3gs does not pick up the router anymore. All other devices still work with wifi, so it's not the router itself. Only the iphone does not recognize/connect anymore to my router or any other wireless network (I tried at university network and open city networks as well....)
I thought the update to ios 5.0.1 would have solved this problem as well (since it is obviously software related...my wifi worked perfectly under ios4) but it seems things have not improved at all.
Any-one else with this problem, or a solution?
    Jeroen
PS: yes, i have re-set the iphone and the network connections in my iphone already.....

Yes, after upgrading to 5.01 (I skipped 5.0) my iPhone 3G and iPad 1 have both lost the ability to connect to wi-fi networks even though they see them. I get a generic "unable to join the netwwork "name""). I have reset the devices, etc. This might explain why my iPhone battery life went from 2-3 days to less than a day now as the device is constantly trying to join my known networks but to no avail. No solution found yet. This is an Apple problem.

  • Connection problem after firmware update 7.5.2

Until I update 7.5.2, my Airport Extreme station worked fine. But now every time my computer starts it fails to connect to the station. I have to recreate à new connection on my MBP or I have to disable and enable Airport repeatedly to establish a connection. (No connecting problems with my Iphone, but same problem with another MBP).
    Need some help, thanks

The question of which channel to use is very dependent upon your environment. Probably the #1 item to work through is finding a channel that is relatively free of other interference. This is especially true of the 2.4 GHz band (802.11 b/g) which has been used for quite a few applications. This includes:
    - Other WiFi base Stations
    - Bluetooth devices
    - Microwave Ovens
    - Some Cordless phones.
In the case of Cordless Phones and other Base stations, these can often be from your neighbors, so you may have to use trial and error to find a channel.
In my particular case, all of the devices which were failing were trying to use the 2.4 GHz band on 802.11 b/g. When it was set to "Automatic" the Base Station software indicated that my base station was using Channel 1. I just set it to Manual and selected Channel 3 and things started working for me. (Since it required me to make a selection for the 5 GHz band, I whose Channel 48 for that)
The key in any situation is to find one not in use by other devices. Normally, selection of "Automatic" allows the Base station to make this choice by listening when it is not broadcasting and trying to sense other items on the same channel. However, this doesn't always work 100% because your end device (like your PC) may be closer to the other source of interference and it can "hear" transmissions that the base station cannot.
What I find strange is that this inability to select a free channel appears to have been triggered by the firmware upgrade, so perhaps there is something in this new firmware which doesn't do as good of a job of finding the clear channel to use.
I hope this helps someone else out there as well!

  • Mail Connection Problems after latest Maverick Update

My macbook pro contains the latest OS Maverick update (12/17/2013) and I am still having mail connection problems.
Several times an hour the mail app is dropping the mail connection on all my accounts. I have to sign in to all my connections each time the connection drops. Does anyone think of a solution to this problem? Anyone else still having this problem with Maverick Mail connections?
    Thanks

Same problem here. For a couple of weeks, I've had an error message that my accounts can't log in. I've gone thru the account prefs and made sure all settings are correct and set to Apple's suggested settings. Also getting double messages sometimes. Not all messages, but one or two will be doubled. This happens on my iPhone and Mac's. If I scroll the window the double message disappears.
Also had lots of errors that mail can;t be deleted. I go back and delete the message again and it goes away.
I kinda feel like this is Mavericks related since these issues were not happening under ML.

  • Connection problems after installing wireless router: frequent "Server not found"

I recently got a Linksys wireless router but since then, a lot of webpages show "server not found" frequently. I can eventually open these if I keep refreshing the page or come back to it later. This only happens to my desktop PC connected by a cable but never happens to our 3 laptops with wireless connection. The LAN cable changed but problem persists. Desktop PC swapped but problem still persists. Is this simply a defective router?

What is the model no of the router...?
Try changing the MTU size to 1350 on the router and power cycle the router and check..
