Connection to 8.0.4 database on same NT pc
I have a problem that appears to be similar to one discussed
earlier in these 'threads'. However as I read the earlier
threads, the suggestions provided did not help my situation.
I have a NT 4 laptop with 8.0.4 installed. I've installed
the JDeveloper 2.0 (184) beta and I'm trying to establish
a connection to my local database.
Basically I've tried all the drivers and every combination
but I can't get it to connect to the database. Most attempts
result in:
Connection Refused
(description=(TMP=)(VSNNUM=134234112)(ERR=12505...
I'm trying to use the thin driver (usually). In the host
field I try IP addresses, blank, and/or the name of my PC.
I've tried all the protocol options.
At one point I got ahold of a sympathetic person at Oracle
Support (JD 2.0 is not yet supported but ...) and he talked
me through downloading JDBC drivers that appear to be specific
for 8.0.4 (as opposed to 8.0.5 or 8.1.4). That did not help
either.
Does anyone have any further suggestions? I can get to my
local Oracle database via SQL*Plus, Forms 5.0, Toad, etc.
Just can't get to the database via JDeveloper.
Regards, Brian P.

Brian,
I stand corrected. Apparently, there is a bug in the 8.1.4 thin
driver that it does not connect correctly to 8.0.4 databases, so
you should use the 8.0.5 thin or OCI drivers (see my previous
note for instructions on making sure 8.0.5 is set as the default
in the IDE).
In addition to setting the Project Properties to make sure you
can run your apps in the IDE, you need to do the following to
make sure JDeveloper can perform the connection (i.e. from the
wizards, etc.):
1. Close JDeveloper
2. Open %Jdev_home%\bin\jdeveloper.ini with a text editor.
3. Add the following path to the beginning of the IDE_CLASSPATH
setting:
..\jdbc\lib\oci8\classes111.zip
4. Save and close the jdeveloper.ini file
5. Start JDeveloper.
Note: This workaround should be fixed with the JDBC 8.1.5
drivers that will be available with the production release. The
8.1.5 drivers should be certified against all previous versions
of Oracle databases.
Sorry for the incompleteness of my previous message.

Hi,
Me and a collegue is administrering our new enterprise BI portal in SharePoint 2013 (On Premise) and have a problem with using a specific Excel file including general ledger data as data source through a BISM file.
This particular BISM file can't be saved without getting the error message "There were errors found while validating the page: Cannot connect to the server or database."
BISM files against other Excel sheets and sources (for example SSAS tabular databases) works well.
Can anyone help us pinpointing whats wrong here, this is a really important stakeholder in our organization requesting this reporting?
Cheers!Hi E.SWARD ,
My self created a Power pivot excel then i want to use this excel to create BI file . Still i am getting the same error . Pls help me to resolve this issue
Cannot connect to the server or database.
I am getting the similar error , if i use Tabular analysis server instance .

Multiple RAC databases on same GI using different subnets for Public i/face
Hello. We are configuring a 2 node cluster. That cluster will host several RAC databases. For security reasons our networking team want to create separate subnets for the application traffic to each specific RAC database on the cluster.
E.g. application 1 has 2 application servers that will connect to RAC database PROD1 via one subnet, application 2 has 3 application servers that will connect to RAC database PROD2 via a different subnet, etc.
In addition the networking team want to configure a separate management subnet that DBAs etc. will use to administer all RAC databases and infrastructure in the cluster.
Grid Infrastructure version 11.2.0.2. Database versions will vary from 10.2.0.x to 11.2.0.2. All databases will utilise RAC.
We want to take advantage of SCAN listener functionality to support connectivity to all databases on the cluster. Forum thread 2199620 [https://cn.forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=2199620] suggests that 11gR2 supports multiple subnets, which looks to be exactly the feature we need. Please can you confirm how this works and point us to any documentation (standard docs, white papers, MOS, etc.) that might help us configure this.
Document referenced in thread 2199620 was not exactly what we were looking for, and didn't translate too well in Google Translate.
Any guidance much appreciated. Thanks, Rich.

Edited by: 887449 on 26-Sep-2011 01:41Thanks Levi. Your advice is very much appreciated.
Your statement that we can only have one SCAN listener listening on one public network is actually the clarification I was looking for.
For anyone else reading this thread I believe this gives us 3 options:
1) Configure a SCAN listener and have all applications, and all management/administration, connecting to the corresponding database on the same cluster via that SCAN listener, all on the same subnet.
2) Configure a SCAN listener for use by all applications connecting to the corresponding database on the same cluster, and use TNSNAMES/VIP for management/administration traffic, both on separate subnets (by configuring the LISTENER_NETWORKS parameter)
3) Configure a SCAN listener for use by applications connecting to one of the databases on the cluster via one subnet, use TNSNAMES/VIP for all other applications connecting to other databases, each using their own subnet. Plus, the management/administration could be via another subnet utilising TNSNAMES/VIP.
From our perspective we will work out the best one for us and implement accordingly.
Thanks again for your timely and comprehensive response. -
Best practise for creating an application that connects to a SQL Server database
I have created an application that connects to a SQL Server database and views information using a datagrid and performs several updates when a button
is selected.
I have created a SQLcontrol.vb using the following code:

Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Public Class SQlControl
'connection 1

Public sqlcmd As SqlCommand
Public sqlda As SqlDataAdapter
Public sqldataset As DataSet
Public Function hasconnection() As Boolean
Try
SQLCon.open()
SQLCon.close()
Return True
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox(ex.Message)
Return False
End Try
End Function
Public Sub runquery(query As String)
Try
SQLCon.Open()
sqlcmd = New SqlCommand(query,
SQLCon)
'LOAD

sqlda = New SqlDataAdapter(sqlcmd)

I am fairly new to vb.net and have read a few books and followed a few tutorials on youtube, what I would like to know is, are there any disadvantages
to the way I have connected to a SQL database using the SQLControl.vb. A lot of the vb books include data adapter and dataset within the form, I'm not sure if I'm following best practice by have the connection details outside of the form.
My other question is, I have created two connections in the SQLControl and call these connections within the same form using the same data adapter
and dataset. It all works fine but I just wanted to know of any potential issues?
Public SQLCon As New SqlConnection With {.ConnectionString
= "Data Source=;Initial Catalog=;Integrated Security=True"}
'connection 2
Public SQLCon1 As New SqlConnection With {.ConnectionString

1) You are not using Sepration of concerns for a solution that is doing data access, like using a DAL.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separation_of_concerns
2) You are directly issuing SQL commands at the UI, leading to sql injection attacks.
3) You are not using a UI design pattern, which leads you to tightly couple database activity to the UI.
http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/228214/Understanding-Basics-of-UI-Design-Pattern-MVC-MVP
@System243trd, parameters are important to prevent SQL injection attacks (people will insert SQL commands into the database if you do not perform basic checking of what you are passing to the database). If you write a stored procedure try to make
the variables the correct SQL server data type to avoid problems later of people trying to call it directly. Darnold924 is right, I see no code to prevent against SQL injection attacks. In addition, during development in some instances LocalSQLDB
database system is used and during deployment you usually need to use the production SQL server database. Moreover, Linq-to-SQL is used on Windows Phone 8.1 and it is required for phone development later and so I highly recommend learning
it if you plan on developing windows phone applications.
@System243trd, If you want the code for the windows phone app I think it uses the MVVM model or that might be for universal apps or regular windows phone apps. I have been using the windows phone Silverlight pivot or panorama template (it might
be pieces of both). I've already submitted to the windows phone marketplace and it had to go through certification first. I plan on later making an article on it but I need to first fix one or two simple problems I have with it. Here's a link to
the source code if you later want to look at the source code (in vb.net):

Problem in OWB: connecting to a non-oracle database
Good day,
i'm working on a windows 32 bit machine,i have Oracle database , OWB 11.2.0.1 installed on it
i'm trying to make OWB connect to a "Sybase" source database on another server , using ODBC
i've tested the connection from SQLPLUS and it's working perfectly
but when i test the connection from OWB locations , it gives me this error:
"ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:
[OpenLink][ODBC][SQL Server]Statement(s) could not be prepared (0)
{42000}[OpenLink][ODBC][SQL Server]"DUAL" not found. Specify owner.objectname
or use sp_help to check whether the object exists (sp_help may produce lots of
output).
(208) {42S02,NativeErr = 208}
my questions are :
-why would OWB check for DUAL table on a sybase database? is that a bug in OWB?
-can i bypass this step and just import metadata from the sybase source database? (i tried importing, but OWB performs the same test before importing)Hi Chris,
I haven't tried it, and these are just some of my thoughts, but I
think you would need to load the JDBC driver for the other database
into the Oracle database (using the "loadjava" tool, of-course).
Then your java stored procedure should be able to instantiate the
third party JDBC driver and obtain a connection to the other database.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck,
Avi. -
CONNECTING ORACLE 9I OR 10G DATABASE WITH ORACLE 10G FORMS AND REPORTS
pls tell how to connect oracle 9i or 10g database with oracle developer suite 10g . though the forms are getting connected but not running with error as
FRM-10142 the HTTP listner is not running on pls start the listner or check your runtime preferences.
now pls tell how to start listner and how to chage runtime preferences.
though i have worked with oracle 9i and forms 6i where we used to copy the tnsnames.ora from network/admin of oracle to forms 6i tnsnames.ora.
thank you, you may be thinking such a long question.....sir
By server i mean the computer where oc4j and backend database are running is one one of the client pc not a dedicated server..., these database and 10g dev suite are installed in one of the client machine,
all the clients are using same internet explorer as browser.
no message is being displyed on some of the client machine where these forms are not being uploaded on browser instead it displays as done in status bar without actually showing anything at all...
sir so far as jinitiator or JRE is concered i have seen on the client machine (where my forms are running on internet explorer) a pop up is displyed telling one activex control is required to run this program and click to install it..
after clicking it download jinitiator from server and after installing jinitiator my forms are loaded and start functioning...
what i feel is as i said this machine where oc4j and database is running is one of the client machine so some other clients do not have acess to this machine, so this might be the reason why those clints are not able to run the said forms on the internet explorer.... can it be so... kindly tell..
thank you for your patience for reading the question -

** Is it not possible to use 2 database in same XI server
Hi friends,
We were able to connect to oracle database thru JDBC adapter previously. To connect to SQL server , we have installed JDBC drivers for Microsoft SQL Server 2000 in same XI server. Now, we are able to connect to SQL server table but not able to connect to Oracle table . When change the CC and give the Oracle driver and Connection string, it throws an error 'SAPClassnotFoundException'.
So, Is it not possible to connect to different database in same XI system ?
Kindly reply friends,
Kind Regards,
Jeg P.1) Verify the DB URL by connecting database using Command line SQL plus or any SQL editor.
2) Check wether the Drivers deployed are supported for the Oracle Db version and JDK version on XI server and OS type ( Solaris )
Check this URL for details on JDBC drivers support list -
Re: Different Version Oracle in a SLD
SAPClassNotFoundException: oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver' --> This error clearly implies that the OracleDriver has not been installed on your XI server.
Ask you admin team to do the needful and install the Oracle Drivers.

"Could not connect to the ConfigMgr site database" problem with SCCM
The scenario is:
- SCCM 2007 SP1 installed on one server
- SQL 2008 installed on the other server
- Console was also installed on the SCCM server.
Everything was working just fine for about three months. As of few days ago, out of nowhere, I cannot open the console at all, it gives me this error:
" The ConfigMgr console could not connect to the ConfigMgr site database. Verify that this computer has network connectivity to the SMS Provider computer and that your user account has Remote Activation permissions on both
the ConfigMgr site server and SMS Provider computers. For more information, see "How to Configure DCOM Permissions for Configuration Manager Console Connections" in ConfigMgr Help. "
I confirmed all permissions (DCOM) and group settings (SMS Admin) and everything looks fine. I also noticed one other thing and I have a feeling its related - I log on to SCCM server and then from there I try to start RDP
connection to SQL server. I can connect, but as soon as I move the mouse or try clicking somewhere it breaks the connection and the "Trying to re-connect" window appears. It can`t establish normal RDP connection. If I try from any other server to SQL, it works
fine...
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Dinolooks like I celebrated way too early - after working for about 20 minutes, it started throwing the same error again. Th adminUI log has this entry:

ThanksSome questions:
Are there any other databases running on this Std Edition SQL service?
[a] Yes there are, we have Kaspersky enterprise DB, Report Server DB and local application DB.
Are there any other services running on this WSUS Server?
[b] Yes there are, we have Active Directory, Kaspersky enterprise, SQL Server 2005, and WSUS all on the same server.
How many days since your WSUS server was first installed?
[c] It's been about a year now.
What is the physical size of the SUSDB.mdf file?
[d] 9,666,752 KB
What is the hardware configuration of this machine, including disk drives?
[e] Intel Xeon 1.86, 2GB Ram, HD C: 39GB - E: 25.2, running Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2.
How many client systems are you servicing from this WSUS Server?
[f] Around 40.
What products/classifications are you synchronizing.
[g] Windows XP-vista, Windows Server 2003, Office 2003-2007, SQL Server 2005.
Okay, for starters, you have an underpowered/overextended machine running Active Directory, ASP.NET, and a database server, all on a sub 2GHz CPU with 2GB RAM, and not enough disk spindles. The machine has had WSUS running for about a year and is 9GB in size.
There's no doubt in my mind that some of your performance issues are directly related to disk and database fragmentation.
There's also no doubt that some of your performance issues are directly related to memory starvation.
I'd suggest the following long-term fixes:
1. Get a second machine. Make it a dedicated database server. Provision it accordingly to support servicing multiple database applications.
2. Lacking #1, this machine needs more memory. It also needs more disk spindles. At a minimum the databases being serviced should be on a dedicated physical drive; ideally there would be two dedicated drives allocated for supporting database services. The
For the short-term fixes, do this:
1. During after-hours time, if you don't already have one, build a temporary machine that can act as a DC/GC, while you take this machine temporarily offline.
1. Shutdown the Update Services service, SQL Server database engine, and any other services dependent on the SQL Server database engine (Kapersky, and other reporting applications). Disconnect from the network to temporarly eliminate DC traffic. (You could also shutdown the AD services, but disconnecting the network cable is ever-so-much easier.) Defragment ALL drives.
2. Restart ONLY the SQL Server service. Obtain this SQL script to Reindex the WSUS Databases.
3. Restart ONLY the Update Services service. Attempt the Server Cleanup Wizard again. Run it in two passes. Pass 1 performing everything except remove unused updates. Pass 2 running only remove unused updates.
4. After completion of the Server Cleanup Wizard, reconnect the machine to the network and resume all other services.
5. If you're able to complete #3, secure the services of a well-qualified DBA to determine if there are any misconfigurations in your SQL Server setup that would account for why your WSUS database is 9GB in size -- such as improperly configured autogrowth parameters. Based on the products you're updating and only forty clients, 9GB is about 3x the maximum size I would expect to see in a WSUS database. It's possible this is simply caused by excess unused updates, it's possible it's caused by fragmentation, it's probable it was caused by unnecessary autogrowth of the database due to insufficient update maintenance. You'll want a DBA to assist you in shrinking that database after you successfully run the Database Maintenance and Server Cleanup Wizard.

Connect a Microsoft SQL Server Database with eclipse
Hi all,
I am having problem to connect a Microsoft SQL Server Database with eclipse. Is it possible to do it? And could someone explain me how, please? When I want to create a connection from the data source explorer, I have in the list of connection only derby and jdbc. Is anything else that I have to download?
Thank you in advance for your help.Just choose generic JDBC and locate/specify the driver yourself. Exactly the same as you would use when you wrote JDBC code yourself.

Connecting form 6i to oracle database 10G express edition
I am unable to connect forms 6i to oracle database 10G express edition.
form builder closes without any message.Hi, i was try that solution, but have some problem.
1) I have stopped other database (Oracle 8i, OracleService + Listener), none Oracle service was running.
2) I was install Oracle XE Univ.
3) Run sqlplus from XE
"D:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN>sqlplus system/PASSWORD@xe as sysdba"
4) Shutdown immediate - OK
5) Startup mount - failed
SQL> startup mount
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
6) I was check registry "hkey_local_machine\software\oracle" and delete key "local" (walue was set to connection to 8i database).
7) I was checking status of Listener from XE (after shutdown).
"Listening Endpoints Summary...
(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=ipc)(PIPENAME=\\.\pipe\EXTPROC_FOR_XEipc)))
(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=jacek)(PORT=1521)))

Service "PLSExtProc" has 1 instance(s).
Instance "PLSExtProc", status UNKNOWN, has 1 handler(s) for this service...

Have anyone suggestion how to connect "directly" to XE (without @CONNECTION string) ?
If source of problem can be having DB 8i installed on same machine ?

Connecting to oracle 12c multitenant database
My question, using coldfusion 11 enterprise datasource gui,
how do you connect to oracle 12c multitenant database,
when you need to log into a pluggable database, beneath
the container database?
What's the connection string, or is it even possible to connect(?) because earlier versions of oracle
didn't use multitenant architecture, you just make a user/password,
grant connect privileges, and connect.
Using Oracle Linux 6.5 64bit.
This is assuming I can connect to the oracle CDB (container database) and PDB (pluggable database) from the shell using sqlplus.

Trouble with connecting a gui to a database
I have been trying to follow the connecting a GUI to a Java DB Database with Netbeans IDE tutorial. But when I try to download the GUI BD Exercise Initial (which it states is needed to complete the tutorial) it does not download it. I have looked in the Projects section but it does not appear but when I try to download it again and again it states that it there.
Does anybody know of any other site that has a Tutorial that describes the same thing. Or does any body know the procedure needed at this stage onwards to connect the GUI to a database. I have completed all of the other Tutorials successfully and can get my database connected to netbeans and create tables etc. Just can't connect it to a GUI.
I don't know if there could be a problem because the file is zipped it seems unlikely to me. In any case when I download it nothing shows in the projects section like it should do although I have been able to save it to other parts of my computer hard drive, but when I try to send it the netbeans Myprojects file it is unsuccessful.
I have the URL of the Tutorial that I have had the trouble downloading the file from. http://www.netbeans.org/kb/55/gui-database.html
I wonder if any body else has had trouble downloading this link?
Any way I would really appreciate any feedback on this has anybody else had trouble on this tutorial?JDBC Database Access
