Connot submit batch - Unable to connect background process?

Trying to export 60 min high quality mpeg and get the following message: "Connot submit batch - Unable to connect background process"
I use FCP 4.5 HD

You don't give many details but Jon Chappell of DigitalRebellion has produced a free utility to help with Compressor problems.
He posted these details recently:-
"It seems like a number of people on this forum are having problems submitting batches from Compressor, so I created a utility to diagnose and fix some of those problems.
Compressor Repair will check all necessary files exist on your hard drive and that permissions are set correctly. It also resets Qmaster, trashes the Qmaster spool directory and launches qmasterd."

  • Submit Code not working in Background processing

    Hi All,
I have a requirement to create delieveries based on the Sales Order through transaction VL04 (RV50SBT1).  Essentially, the program takes selected sales orders, determines the shipping point and creates deliveries immediately.  I believe that the code below is correct as it works when my program is run in the foreground; however, when I run my program in background, SM37 gives an error "Fill in all required entry fields."  The only mandatory field in VL04 is the Shipping Point (VSTEL) which is being successfully populated.
      SUBMIT rv50sbt1  AND RETURN
                      WITH vstel = ls_vbap-vstel
                      WITH s_ledat BETWEEN '20091231' AND '99991231'
                      WITH samml = 'X'
                      WITH anzei = ' '.
Similar code to this is working in other custom developments that I have done; however, those programs only submit to programs without mandatory fields.  Am I doing something wrong?  Is it not possible to use the Submit command if a field is mandatory in the program you are submitting to?  Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.
    John

    Hi Guys,
Yes, I am certain VSTEL is populated.  I created a very simple program to ensure that the values would be there and it still didn't work in background.  In this case, I pass one sales order that I know has a shipping point (in my case the VSTEL is populated with US01) via a parameter.  In debugging, I found that the value is correctly passed.
Here is the test program I created.
    data: ls_vbap type vbap.
    PARAMETERS: pa_vbeln TYPE vbeln.
SELECT SINGLE * INTO ls_vbap FROM vbap
        WHERE vbeln = pa_vbeln.
      SUBMIT rv50sbt1  AND RETURN
                      WITH vstel = ls_vbap-vstel
                      WITH s_ledat BETWEEN '20091231' AND '99991231'
                      WITH samml = 'X'
                      WITH anzei = ' '.

  • Compressor 2.3.1 Cannot submit batch error message What is causing this?

Just installed FCP 5 with DVD Studio pro 4 and Compressor 2 and tried to do a batch compression exported from FCP, I selected the compression I wanted and chose my destination and clicked submit and I get this error message "Cannot submit batch Unable to connect to background process" I did try to Reset Background Processing and it did not make a difference, any suggestions would be appreciated.

The 1009 error indicates that one of the objects being targeted by your code is out of scope.  This could mean that the object....
    - is declared but not instantiated
    - doesn't have an instance name (or the instance name is mispelled)
    - does not exist in the frame where that code is trying to talk to it
    - is animated into place but is not assigned instance names in every keyframe for it
    - is one of two or more consecutive keyframes of the same objects with no name assigned in the preceding frame(s).
If you go into your Publish Settings Flash section and select the option to Permit debugging, your error message should have a line number following the frame number which will help you isolate which object is involved.

Is there a way to fix this?
    I use Compressor 2.

It says when I run it:
    Resetting Qmaster...
    Checking file permissions...
/Applications/Apple Qadministrator.app does not exist. You are advised to reinstall Compressor / Qmaster.
/Applications/Apple Qmaster.app does not exist. You are advised to reinstall Compressor / Qmaster.

    Trashing preferences...
    Trying to start Qmaster...

Well, I cannot unistall the program at the moment because actually, I got it from my brother who got it from a friend. What else can I do?

  • Have leopard but still get Cannot Submit Batche error message in Compressor

i get the "cannot submit batch unable to connect to background process" error message. Some posts attribute this to a Tiger anomaly but it has happened to me after i went to 10.4.10--though i had not used my DVDSP2 in several months.
    Any suggestions appreciated

Sounds like your compressor preferences are trashed. You can try getting your old compressor preferences before you installed leopard.
leopard keeps some of the old file from you previous system.
I forget what the name of the folder is but its something like previous versions in your main directory. From the previous system folder navigate to your old
    compressor settings. users>yourname>library>application support>compressor.
copy those files from you previous system folder and move them the new compressor files location that can be found under you username NOT IN THE PREVIOUS SYSTEM FOLDER.
You can also try moving your present compressor settings to the trash (DO NOT EMPTY)and rebooting then launching compressor. You might get prompted to reinstall compressor from disk or website file.
There also used to be a way to download just compressor from apples website.
If all that doesn't work. DO A CLEAN INSTALL final cut likes that better then upgrades.
Back up and do a clean build.
Back up old content to other HD then OS is on.
    Reformat OS HD
    Reinstall OS
    Reinstall FCP (long time).
FCP will be happier that way.
    HOPE IT HELPS.

  • Compressor 2 and FCP 4.5 "background process" error

So I switched to my laptop which is running 10.4.11 and Compressor 2. I get "Cannot submit batch" Unable to connect to background process. I don't know if I should try the same proposed solutions that are suggested for the newer versions of the software? Any other suggestions?

    VAR,
    1. When you can spare another 5 min to solve your problem, instead of coming here and complaining about no one helped you (though Tom did offer a very direct response) you might take the time to read your DVDSP manual.
In it, you will discover that DVDSP is totally capable of converting quicktime movies to m2v and aif files. You have full control over all aspects of bitrate etc. Indeed, it is the same engine as in compressor. If you need an AC3 file, use A-Pack on the aif DVDSP will create.
    2. When you say compressor does not work, do you mean -A. it does not launch from within FCP or B. you can not launch it independently?
If it will launch independantly. export a reference QT file, open Compressor and have at it.
QT7 is a problematic issue with FCP4.5. The long term solution is to upgrade to FCP5 to go with 10.4 and QT7. They all fit together much more neatly.

    2. The people who hang out here and help fellow users are not compensated. Their efforts are volunteer and no one is under any obligation to respond to you in any way. If you don't like the advice, I'm sure Apple techincal support would be glad to have a $199 conversation with you.
    3. Tom is a mainstay of the board and one of the the most knowledgeable people you will find regarding FCP. As such he is highly respected by the serious users of the forum. You will not find a great deal of sympathy or support here if you continue on in this vein ..
You have a technical issue, post the details, For example, what have you tried to solve the problem? The intellectual resources here are quite amazing. I've not seem many posts go unresolved for lack of trying.
    good luck.

  • "Unable to Connect to Background Process." Revisited

    Hello,
I am getting the dreaded "Unable to Connect to Background Process."
YES I tried the apple suggestion. I also tried the hostconfig suggestion (that one was a mistake!). Archive instal on the system then a re instal of Compressor & Q Master and no luck.
I did notice one thing in activity monitor "Compressord (Not Responding)" It is hung force quit it and re launch compressor again and it dose that.
Same is true on my PowerBook G4 17 and my New MacBook Pro 17 (Witch I migrated from the PowerBook)
    I am use Compressor 2.1
Not sure where to go from here.
Thanks for any info you can give me!
    Shaun
MacBook Pro 17 inch   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   2 GB Ram 100 GB 7200 RPM Drive

Robert's suggestion above is the only thing that worked for me. I tried all of the other "fixes" on this and other threads, but nothing solved the problem until I did this:
    - Quit Compressor
    - Run Terminal and then enter...
    sudo /Library/StartupItems/Qmaster/Qmaster
    ...and enter your system password.
    - Re-Run Compressor and re-submit the batch and it
should work. Sometimes you need to wait a minute or
so for Qmaster to get "up and running" but it has
always worked for me. And Qmaster keeps running
    until you reboot.
Hopefully, this will help someone else with the same problem.

  • Compressor error message "Unable to connect to background process"

My compressor application became corrupted and showed 2220 hours to convert a FCP file of 65 min to a 90 min mpeg2. After re-installing Compressor every time I try to submit a file I get the error message "Unable to connect to background process"? I tried resetting the background as instructed in the manual but continue to get the same message?
    Anybody ever encountered this problem?

Ya I am also getting the same problem I asked here on forum.
    some solution is here

  • "Unable to connect to background process" HEEEEEEELLLLLLPP!

I just bought a G5 and I transferd all my files from my G4
I'm using Compressor 1 to compress my self contained FCP movies for DVD studio...I got the dreaded "Unable to connect to background process" so I researched and found that I needed to get rid of 3rd Party Utiitys or Disk Utility..I did both and I'm still getting the warning after I re install Compressor???***???
I have spent all day tring to get this to work...and i'm about to throw
my G5 against the wall!!! What the **** am I doing wrong???
One thing I put my Apple Disk Utility in the Trash with out empting
it..Because I Can't figure out how to disable it?? can that be the problem????
I need to figure this out ASAP I have a dead line looming over me ..
My poor G4 is compressing fine ..But it will take 27 Hours to finish..
    Please Help..
    A frustrated Apple user..

    HI
The fix outlined here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93234 didn't work for me, but here's what did...
I searched QMaster in Spotlight, then right clicked on all the folders and 'revealed in finder'. I then deleted the file/folder and emptied the trash until the only QMaster entry in Spotlight was the System Preference control panel.
I also deleted the compressor pkg in the library receipts folder as mentioned in the Apple link.
Then I repaired permissions and reinstalled Compressor and QMaster from the DVD.
Then I repaired permissions, restarted and did a software update. This updated QMaster for me.
Then I repaired permissions and restarted again.
Now Compressor allows a Batch to be submitted!
    Hope this helps someone.

  • Unable to connect to background process in compressor

I have tried the solutions posted in support including a complete removal of associated files and re install, but it it still unable to connect to background process.
Do anyone have a working solution? Thanks

Well, FCP 4.5 is 4-5 years old now. You can't expect them to support it forever.
Leopard only supports FCS 2 and FCS 1.5 (i.e. FCP 5.1.x) which explains why your problem wasn't fixed upon upgrading.
I used to have this problem with Compressor and solved it this way:
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/blog/posts/mycompressor_issuessolved.html
They seem to be many causes though, so I can't guarantee this will work for everyone.

  • Dreaded "Unable to connect to background process" error

    Re: Compressor 2.0.1
A year ago I used Compressor regularly without issue. Now I get this stupid, "Unable to connect to background process" and Compressor is completely unusable.
I have read article 93234 and followed the instructions *TO THE LETTER* for Compressor 2. Still no change...same stupid message and Compressor refuses to work. I don't have anitvirus software or background disk utilities either.
I find it incredible that Apple hasn't issued an update to fix this. This is supposed to be their professional software...not some Windows crap.
Has anyone discovered what the real problem is...and how to fix this?

David Harbsmeier wrote:>So that leaves the probability that it is an issue with your system. It may be time for a clean install.
A point well taken, which I will investigate and try some basic maintenance first. My Leopard install was completely squeaky clean only about 9 months ago. Doing this again would be very time consuming.
I did try something else: I rebooted from a backup clone of my previous 10.4.11 system. And as I remembered, Compressor works flawlessly there! This at least gives me an option for using it at the moment.
Nonetheless, it must be noted this error is at the top of the list when entering Apple's Compressor support page. This suggests there is a genuine issue going on that many people are encountering. And it must be a LOT of people too... The fact that a third party "fix" utility was written seems to testify to this.
In light of my experience above, is anyone successfully running *Compressor 2.0.1 in Leopard?* If there is indeed a compatibility issue with this new OS, doing a complete system reinstall may be a complete waste of time. At least I still have the option of booting to my old system where it can be used for the present.

  • Still Unable to Connect to Background Process

I went through the motions of trashing compressor/Qmaster and re-installing as they suggest on the support page (a number of times), and I still get the same message "unable to connect to background process".
There was one point where I didn't re-install Qmaster and I was able to encode. I went back a few days later and the error message re-appeared.
    What am I doing wrong?

This is a nightmare for me right now. I have several projects that need to be produced without delay.
I have followed the instructions in the document http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93234 .
The first time I had this problem of not being able to connect to background processes this fix worked. Two days later when I go to compress again, the error message comes back up. Following the instructions in the document and two more reinstalls later it's still no better.
The console logs for Compressor don't make any sense to me:
    2007-08-02 13:30:43.073 Compressor[256] CFLog (21): dyld returns 2 when trying to load /Users/r2d2/Library/Contextual Menu Items/GraphicConverterCMI.plugin/Contents/MacOS/GraphicConverterCMI

What do these things have to do with Compressor?
    Can someone offer some insight?

  • Unable to connect to background process

What is this error code all about and how can I fix it?

Try going to the Compressor menu and selecting Reset Background Processing.
If that doesn't work, try this:
