hire someone for the job and watch closely what he does, don't try to do something for a customer you've never done before.
Then in your spare time fiddle around and try to make some things yourself until you're confident with the technology.
Only then try to do it yourself on a commercial basis.
You goof up on a job, you risk your company and your reputation.

    Thanks.
This makes our deployement script stop working.  We don't want to use the Webi Rich Client to deploy webi report manually to different servers (like Development, SIT, UAT, Production, etc.).  We use shell scripts calling Java programs  to deploy reports.
Is there any other way to deploy webi reports using Java SDK which can find the universe by name in the same CMS automatically and link to it?

  • Oracle 9i lite application development using java

    hi all,
I want to develop a applcation which interacts with the 9i lite database in java.Is there any emulator which will help me in developing this on a windows 2000 machine or winnt machine?
i tried developing it in eVB but the emulator which come along with it does not support the 'oladoce' object..
please if anybody has done something on this please help .. this is very urgent..
    thanks ..,
    sreekanth sreedharan

Oracle 9i Lite is a multi-platform product and you need to specific the target OS for the database and the version of java.
If you are planning to run your application in Win2000 you will have no problem using Oracle 9i Lite with the supplied
jdbc drivers and any java development environment for J2SE. What you get is a laptop platform that works while not
    connected to the Internet
If you are trying to using Oracle 9i Lite on the Palm with J2ME development on windows, it works fine with the Palm Emulator
but I am not sure that the jdbc drivers are available for J2ME yet and I have not used them as I have for J2SE on windows
I am also very interested in developing java applications for the palm using Oracle 9i Lite and I would appreciate feedback
on the jdbc and other required sql extensions for the sun java cldc
If you are talking about the PocketPC or other WinCE, I cannot help you but I have used Personal Java on WinCE but not yet
attempted Oracle 9i Lite on those platforms

  • Want to be a Database Developer using JAVA

    Hi Friends,
First of all i would like to introduce my programming background shortly.
I have been working on oracle using their development tools like developer 6i and oracle APEX since last 10 years. I have developed several database applications for different organizations such as Financials, inventory, Sales, Payroll etc.
Therefore, I am very desperate to learn JAVA and want to develop database application on it whereas i dont have any language experience. May be it is difficult for me.
Can you please tell me how can i create database application like form designing, inserting data in oracle database, triggers handling, report designing etc.??
    any helpful website?
    where should i start?
Please help. i will be thankful.
    Regards,
    Kamran

Hello friend. Excuse my rather withdrawn answers, but you are getting the same answers as so many people before you have gotten. Take them as an eye opener (or I prefer: brain-widener), do not take offense please.

inserting data in oracle databaseYou write code to do it. You can use a low level API like JDBC to execute plain queries, or you can use a higher level ORM framework to work from the perspective of a hierarchical object model in stead of flat tables
triggers handlingDatabases handle triggers, not applications
report designing etc.??You use the right tool for the job, of which there are many
    any helpful website?Google
where should i start?A book about Java! Amazon user reviews are an excellent guide to know which ones are good and might fit you personally.
Your very, very first step is to make a 100% switch in the way you think though. You are NOT going to be creating "database applications". You are going to be creating applications which utilize databases. The application's business logic is the lead, not the database. If you cannot make that change in the way you think, you are going to fail into adopting software engineering through a development platform such as Java.

Take care not to produce much source code! Use a suitable framework rather than a tool and save maintainability. E.g. http://www.must.de/cameleon.html

  • Mobile app development with Java FX

    Hi
I would like to get the below details regarding the mobile app development using Java FX.
1)Which is the latest version that supports mobile app development ?
2)Will it have the cross device support?
    3) How about the performance and security?

1)Which is the latest version that supports mobile app development ?None.
1.3 did support mobile development to some limited extent, but that is a deprecated dead branch and no longer supported.
You can run JavaFX on a Windows 7 or 8 tablet PC, but my guess is that by mobile app development you mean iOS/Android - neither of which are supported.
2)Will it have the cross device support?Perhaps there will be a version of JavaFX that runs on iOS/Android at some time in the future.
There are people working on making this possible =>
http://mail.openjdk.java.net/pipermail/openjfx-dev/2013-May/007632.html "OpenJFX on iOS using RoboVM"
    3) How about the performance and security? Can't really talk about performance and security of something which doesn't exist.

  • Exception while using Java Comm and Java Web Start together

    Hello Java Experts!
Here's the problem that's been bothering me. The application i'm developing uses Java Comm API to listen to Serial Ports. The application works absolutely fine when it is run locally.
Now, I need to deploy this remotely using java web start. All resources(dependent jar files) are present on the server and are referenced properly in the JNLP file. All jar files are signed properly.
Still, it throws the following exception.
    java.lang.NullPointerException: name can't be null
         at java.io.FilePermission.init(Unknown Source)
         at java.io.FilePermission.<init>(Unknown Source)
         at java.lang.SecurityManager.checkDelete(Unknown Source)
         at javax.comm.CommPortIdentifier.getPortIdentifiers(CommPortIdentifier.java:70)
The exact line of code where it apparently seems to error out is...
    Enumeration portList = CommPortIdentifier.getPortIdentifiers();
Are there any security issues involved here? Can a application deployed through java web start access serial ports on the system?
Any pointers as to what the problem might be would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

I have the IBM Communications API. I've
been told that it works with Java Web Start but I
have not tried it. IBM has changed it's download site
    so.... I can't point you to it. But I have it(55k zip'ed)
and can send it to you if you post your E-Mail address
of where you would like it sent.

PS If it does work with Web Start please post the

  • Developing webservices using Java SE6 and Tomcat Webserver

    Hi All,
I am trying to develop a webservice using Java SE6 Beeta SDK with Tomcat webserver. I read somewhere in the Sun site and it says JAXWS2.0 is fully packaged with JAVA SE 6 SDK? If this is correct then what are all the remining packages(jar files present in JWSDP2.0) required to develop and publish the webservice.
I does the setup as follows.
    - Install the Java SE6 SDK Beeta available.
    - Install Tomcat 5.17 webserver.
    - Started the webserver by setting java_home as SDK6.
I am not able to publish the webservice with this setup
Do i need to place any other package present in JWSDP2.0 in Tomcat_home/common/lib ?
I used the same example present in JWSDP2.0 package.
    Please guide me regarding this?
    Thanks In Advance,

Any ideas on how this could be achieved.Have you looked at the Unofficial Web Start FAQ at the Lopica site?

  • Can i develope a java application using C API

    hai,
i have C api, the project was developed in C before, now i am having that api. I have to do that in java by using that C api.
can any one suggest me how to do this?

Your question is not that very clear!! You want to convert the C api to a Java api? or you want to develop a Java application that uses the C api?
For the first question I believe that you should check the functionality of the C api and re-code it in Java! do not believe you should find anything imposible in that! (unless that api is trying to do something crzy directly with memory)
For the second question then I believe you will have to use native calling or something like that. I have never used it, but read about it, and it seems one way how Java can interect with C.
Over here there is a forum.

  • Using Java 5, how to develop customizable web-pages  like iGoogle ?

Is it possible to develop customizable web-pages like iGoogle does, using Java 5 ( simply using JSPs, servlets, JSFs, AJAX etc. and without using portals) ?
A simple example explaining how to provide 3-4 header graphics options ( like igoogle does) will be helpful. (iGoogle seems to create a cookie, which appears to be used to render the selected header-graphics).
    TIA
    Edited by: DevelopingJava2005 on Jul 7, 2008 9:36 AM

    Without using portals?
Google uses RSS feeds to compile their mashups on iGoogle. The positioning of those boxes are managed with AJAX and upon placement are saved into a session so they stay there for each visit after.
Please be a little more clear as to what you are looking for. Yes, it is possible to develop web pages using the technologies you specified to simulate something like iGoogle, so give us some more details on what exactly you're looking for.
    Code wouldn't hurt either.

  • IE11 compatibility of application developed using webdynpro java in NWDS7.01.12

    Hi,
I have a webdynpro java application developed using NWDS 7.01.12 with jdk1.4. This portal application is not working when accessed using IE11 browser. The action on buttons and selection from a drop down list in this application is not responding in IE11. Its working well with mozila fire fox vrs 31. On click of action the following error is encountered:
SCRIPT438: Object doesn't support property or method 'attachEvent'
    File: sapUrMapi_ie6.js, Line: 683, Column: 7
which points to the below piece of code:
    function sapUrMapi_initLinkStatus() {
      var oNodes = document.getElementsByTagName("A");

SCRIPT438: Object doesn't support property or method 'createEventObject'
    File: sapUrMapi_ie6.js, Line: 2193, Column: 2
    Code:
    oComboBoxSCEvent = document.createEventObject( oEvt);
The above mentioned errors are being pointed to sapUrMapi_ie6.js file.
Is there any solution to over come these issues other than setting "user agent string" value in the browser?
Can this be resolved with any changes in the application or is there any SAP provided solution?
Please help me to resolve this issue.
Similar issues are also pointed to popup_ie6.js files at "window.attachEvent("onload",sapPopup_init)" and
    "window.document.attachEvent("onmousemove",resetMouseOver)".
    Thankyou.

    Hi Karthika,
It is mentioned in Ervin's famous doc, that NWDS version must match that of RunTime System.

I thought the NWDS must be updated via update sites, but surprisingly I could find the patch in service market place.
I do not know how to get the download link directly for you.

  • Seeking Help for Guidance in developing a product using JAVA CARD

    Hi All,
I am using windows environment with netbeans 6.8 as developer tool and MySql Server connectivity for back end process. My requirement is to develop applets and installing them to my Smart card and reader.my question is
    1. how i am supposed to create applets to get the student id of particular student whose id is already registered in the database?
    2. how to install them into the smart card?
3.what are the commands i am supposed to follow if other than APDU commands?
4.i found there is APDU commands but what do that each CLA,INS,p1,p2,Lc,le..commands used for?how can i use them in my creation of applets.i found the command varies for certain requirements.
5.if possible please help me with a small example so that i will start developing it.

    Hi,
Welcome to the wonderful world of embedded Java development!
    Sijukj wrote:
    1. how i am supposed to create applets to get the student id of particular student whose id is already registered in the database? The first step is to download the Java Card Development Kit (JCDK) from the Sun website (along with the related documentation/specifications). If you plan on using your code on a real card, I would recommend JC version 2.2.1 or 2.2.2. If it is sufficient to run your applet on a simulator (as a proof of concept or for assignments) with no intention on running on real hardware you could go for JC 3.0.2 and use the supplied simulator. This version of JC does not have commercially available cards as of yet.
Once you have the applet coded and installed on your card, you would personalise the card for the card holder. This means loading card holder specific data into your application. This may also involve registering the smart card ID with the student in your database.
    2. how to install them into the smart card? The procedure for loading and installing applets is outlined in the Java Card documentation (available with the JC development kits from Sun) and the GlobalPlatform card specifications (available from [http://www.globalplatform.org]). You can look into some open source tools for doing this (GPShell and the Java Card Development Kit).
3.what are the commands i am supposed to follow if other than APDU commands? This depends on what you are trying to achieve with your applet. If you want interoperability you could implement a standard like ISO7816 or IOS24727. This is a lot of work so you may just want to implement the proprietary you require for each operation you need (e.g. set student ID, get student ID etc).
4.i found there is APDU commands but what do that each CLA,INS,p1,p2,Lc,le..commands used for?how can i use them in my creation of applets.i found the command varies for certain requirements. These are defined in ISO7816 part 4.
The CLA byte gives information on the command you are sending such as secure messaging, command chaining, ISO or proprietary command
The INS is the instruction or command you are trying to perform
P1 and P2 are parameters to the command. These may not be required for each command but are able to be used to convey further information to the applet.
Lc is the length of the data field you are sending (e.g. for a PUT DATA command this would be the amount of data you are sending)
Le is the length of the data you expect to receive back from the card. If this is absent you do not expect the card to return any data, 0x00 means send all the data you have left (up to the limit of the response APDU)
5.if possible please help me with a small example so that i will start developing it.You can find example code in the Java Card Development Kit. There are a wide range of examples there that can help you get started.
    Cheers,
    Shane

  • Security-role for java web services developed using j-developer 10.1.2.1

I have developed a java web service using j-developer 10.1.2.1, I have deployed this web service to oracle 10g (10.1.2.1) application server successfully. Now I want to add security-role to my web service deployment descriptor so that only a group of users that belong to a group can access my web service.
How can I do this? Can any one please let me know.
    Thanks,
    SC.

    Hi.
I suspect you have a proxy server between your localhost and the
    drive-app1.drivesoftwaresolutions.com
Probably in Jdev that proxy is setup nicely in Tools->Preferences->Web Browser and Proxy
But maybe your OC4J container running BPEL on localhost does not have that proxy setup.
You need to add startup parameters to the JVM. In 10.1.3 you can do this via the "AS Control" administration pages (there is a link on the SOA suite welcome page). Go to JVM, click on the container and switch to the "Administration" tab.
The properties are proxySet, proxyHost, proxyPort and nonProxyHosts
When deploying from JDev, the compilation in JDev works fine (uses the proxy). But when the JAR is transferred to the server, it is compiled again. This fails because the proxy is not used on the server side and it cannot read the wsdl.

  • Can I use Java Card Development Kit 2.2.1 on Windows XP?

Can I use Java Card Development Kit 2.2.1 on Windows XP?
If no, which kit supports XP?

It is not as strait forward as per say.
I would like to share some tips that I have learnt duirng my recent experience with Java Card Development Kit 2.1.2 ( It presumed that JAVA SDK and JCDK is properly installed:
    Additonal installation
    - you need to download Java Communicatons API version 2.o for Windows at http://java.sun.com/products/javacomm/downloads/index.html
    - unzip the downloaded file javacom20-win20.zip
    - copy comm.jar and javax.com.properties to %JAVA_HOME%\lib
    - copy win32com.dll to %JAVA_HOME%\bin
    Configuration of Environment
    - Activate System under Control Panel
    - Click Environment Variable button under Advance Tab.
    - Check that JAVA_HOME and JC21_HOME are there under User Variables for user123
    - Create a new enviroment by clicking New button under User Variables and Enter "CLASSPATH" for Variable Name and ".;c:\j2sdk1.4.1_04\lib\comm.jar for Variable Value ( the ".;" is important for the entry and varies according to your JAVA_HOME)
    Modifying %JC21_HOME%\samples\build_samples.bat
    - Next you need to modify the compiler option in build_samples.bat
    - Use editor to look for the portion "Compile Sample" and add "- target 1.1" to every statements here. A sample is listed below:
    %JAVA_HOME%\bin\javac -target 1.1 %JCFLAGS% src\com\sun\javacard\samples\HelloWorld\*.java
You may proceed to test the demo codes as instrucrted in the User Guide.
I hope the above will help those who are keen to have a head start in Java Card Developemnet.

  • Using Java to Develop Expert System

Can anyone help me to find some information about how to use JAVA to develop an expert system

You can build expert systems with JAVA - that is not a problem. For starting, a good place will be Philip LaPlant's book. It does give good insight into expert systems.
With Java, the systems might get a bit slow though, the processing in these systems are usually very high.
