Contact Sync went Gray

All of a sudden the Contact sync on my desktop software (7.1) went gray and unavailable.  I have a 9300 without an enterprise connection, just a simple Outlook 2010 desktop installation.  There is a lot ot talk about Wireless sync, but I don't have that option available on my BB.  I have been syncing contacts for a long time (the old fashion way) and it just became unavailable.  Please help.

Just to be sure, please check:
KB22430 How to enable or disable wireless contact synchronization with BlackBerry Internet Service
and ensure that, in all places (there should be two), wireless contact sync is disabled. The symptom you describe is normally caused by one or both of those wireless sync options being enabled on the BB.
If all is well, then all I can do is suggest this thread:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...
It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
Good luck and let us know!

  • I cannot make my Outlook 2010 calendar/tasks/contacts sync with the calendar on my iPhone 5, I cannot make my Outlook 2010 calendar sync with the calendar on my iPhone 5

I have wasted so many hours trying to make this work and researching Apple support.  Nothing works so I am hoping to get an answer here.
First of all, here is what I am using:
    Windows 7 32 bit
    Outlook 2010
    iPhone 5 and iPad 3
    iOS 7.0.2 on both devices
I have downloaded the iCloud app for my Windows computer and checked that it sync my contacts, calendar, and tasks.  I have enabled iCloud on my phone for contacts, calendars and tasks.  I have not been able to get anything to sync.  My iCloud calendar appears in Outlook but everything is grayed out.  I see the iCloud reminders under my tasks tab but there is nothing listed.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iCloud on my Windows computer.  I have turned off the calendars, tasks, and contacts sync under iCloud on my phone and turned them back on - nothing.  I have restarted my computer and iPhone - nothing.  Same results with my iPad - nothing.
Additionally, I have gmail as my personal email; also am forced to use Good for Enterprise for my work email.
I am at my wits end.  I finally ended up syncing today with the USB cable via iTunes but the whole point behind iCloud is to be able to sync wirelessly.
ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello there janis143,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like after the recent iOS update, your Outlook content is no longer syncing properly to your phone.
    I found this article named:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Troubleshooting contact and calendar syncing via USB on Windows

I recommend the troubleshooting steps therein.

  • I am trying to sync my new iPod classic and "Sync" is grayed out

I have tried everything. Updated iTunes, verified my User id and password, nothing is recognizing the "new" used iPod. When I plug it in to the PC, iTunes is not automatically turning on. When I open iTunes, I go to Devcies, but "Sync" is grayed out. Also, the iPod has started to "Connect" to PC and then automatically starts the "OK to Disconnect" without me doing anything at all. I am floored at this point and don't know what else to try. My old iPod was the original Classic from like 2005ish and it's hard drive just went wonky. I never had an issue with it and iTunes at all.

    Hello Aerogenous,
I know having a device you can't use can be frustrating. I have located an article that will walk you through a series of troubleshooting steps:
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1339
Warning: Because restoring erases all the songs and files on iPod, back up any files you've saved on the iPod disk. All of your songs, videos, podcasts, audiobooks, and games can be loaded back to your iPod provided that you have them stored in your iTunes Library. If you use the Nike + iPod Sport Kit, see this document for more information.
After you perform the restore, you should attempt to sync your content again. Keep in mind that iPods are meant to sync with one computer and one iTunes library.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    BobbyD

  • Google Contact Sync, causing randon duplicates.ugh!  Thoughts, Suggestions?

    Hey guys,
So I just discovered the new Google Contact sync in Address Book, and also own an iPhone. But so far, I have had MAJOR issues with this, and I've been struggling with this issue since last week. Luckily Time Machine has been saving my day.
Here's what's happening. Since I first started syncing, my contacts went from 271 to 289. When looking at contacts, it appears random contacts are being duplicated. I hear that there are chances where contacts can be duplicated, when they appear on the Google Most Contacted list, but non of which are being duplicated are in this list. And like I said they're random contacts being duplicated.
I guess the alternative to using Google Sync, is to use Spanning Sync 2.0 beta, but in that scenario, I was running into data being changed randomly in the cards.
So far the best sync has been .Mac naturally, but I use my own domain for email using Google Apps, so unless I forwarded that email to my .Mac account, I sort of need to get this sync working with Google Contacts and Address Book.
Any suggestions?? Thoughts?? Would love to hear what people are doing.

Same problem here, but happened on my first sync.

  • Contact syncing still flawed

Hi there everybody and season Greetings.
I find it hard to believe that after so many years of contact-syncing among the OSX address book and portable devices, this basic feature still doesn't work as one would expect. I know merging and syncing is a complex issue but I am very disappointed as what isn't working should be a very basic feature.
    Here is my story:
I had nicely revised all my address book entries in order to remove all multiple entries as well as doing the necessary trimming ending up with exactly 800 entries.
I also decided to give Google GMail syncing another shot after having been sorely disappointed a few times with it in the past.
In order to play this game safely and with a minimum number of variables, I first exported a full back-up of my OSX addressess to a brand-new GMail account created purposedly. I knew about the limitations I was going to face but wanted to try anyway.
As exporting the contacts to GMail works only when syncing a device, I hooked up my iPhone and started to sync. Believe it or not I ended in my GMail contacts with 813 instead of the initial 800 but that is not all, the worst has yet to come.
As I wanted to keep things as simple as possible I decided to just move back to the original copy I had saved.
I unchecked the "Sync Google contacts" box in both, iTunes AND the Address Book preferences, imported the backup into my computer address book and tried a full new Syncronization of my contacts.
Much to my surprise, in the iPhone contacts I am now left with all my entries without any info further to just Name and Surname.
Can anybody explain this to me?
The total number of entries is back to 800 now, actually 799 as I tried removing one entry from the iPhone to see if this was triggering the sync but it didn't.
*Repeating the syncing process several times does not fix the issue.*
*Entries in OSX Address book look allright but no info more than Name of contact are available on the iPhone.*
Of course I have tried opening closing the Address Book on my mac, re-starting iTunes, restarting the iPhone, re-starting the computer, all to no avail.
Everything is syncing nicely (movies, calendars, you name it) but the contacts.
As I have run out of options I wonder if there is anybody out there with some ideas?
I spent the morning of December 26th trying to fix this.
What a bitter present did I get from Apple on this Christmas..

    Thanks for your reply, Allan.
I tried everything I could think of. When I wrote syncing "several times" I actually ment exactly what you are suggesting, replacing all data in the iPhone with the one available on the computer, that is, hence the multiple syncs.
I now went as far as starting a trial account with mobile.me only to find that the problem is more serious than I thought.
My contact list (I am using the backup I created before experimenting) looks fine on my Mac/s.
Exporting and syncing to MobileMe shows exactly the same issue I described before.
All my (799) contacts are now online on me.com but none of the info I want such as phone number, home address and so on are available. To add insult to injury, they are all available on my Google-GMail contacts.
    I am flabbergasted!
It seems like something is wrong with the way the Address Book is exporting data.
    Yes but.. what?
Luckily I have several copies of my data, last but least, a Time Machine backup, but still can't figure out where to go from here.

  • Yahoo Contact Sync when 2 accounts added?

So I just recently added my second yahoo mail account to my iPhone (yeah I have my reasons for two) but when I went to sync it, it said there was an error in yahoo address sync and to try again later.
Could this be because I have two yahoo accounts?
My second account dose not have any addresses on it.
    Thanks for any help.

After spending some time with Chat support, I have found that in order to re-establish a sync with Yahoo! contacts (should it have failed),
    1. delete your Yahoo! account (all aspects, messaging, email, calendar, contacts)
    2. restart the phone.
    3. Open Accounts app
    4. Add "Email Account" (do not choose Yahoo!)
    5. Choose items that you wish to sync as usual.
For some reason, the Yahoo! setting is giving errors with the contact sync.
    Hope this helps

  • .983 upgrade problems - Contact sync cannot complete

I upgraded the OS to 5.0.0.983 last night and it didn't go well.  It was getting the "Uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerException" error.
I wiped the whole BB and started fresh.  Then I was getting 0x80040fb3 errors for Contact sync'ing.
I have ~700 contacts in Outlook and they sync'd fine. I went through the sync details screen and found a couple that once I deleted them, it would get to the end of the sync process and then give me that "Unable to Complete Synchronization" error.  In utter frustration, I moved all the contacts to another contact folder and created asingle  "Test Test" contact.  It still had the unable to complete error - even with just ONE contact?
I used the Delete Data on the DTM software and created a single contact directly on the BB.  The one entry repeats all down the contacts list, yet the Menu>Default>Number of Entries shows only 1.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Same problem! All I did was update in response to an update notice and the process has ruined my day. I live by my contacts and now I have none, don't know who's calling when the phone rings, can't text, all because my contacts won't synch. The only official notice to the error code says make sure you have the latest DTM software. Yeah right, a lot of help that does. I had the latest software. This is really frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • BIS calendar and contact sync unreliable

For years I've been using a SyncML client to sync my BB with my Google calendar and contacts and this has been 100% reliable. However, the annual licence fee is due soon so I thought I'd try the BB built in sync.
I set up my Gmail email account to sync the calendar, contacts and deletions. The initial sync went well and looked promising. However, my joy soon turned to despair as several sync issues have arisen.
Timing for any changes to take effect for a start! If the entry is made on the handset Google Calendar or Contacts update almost immediately. However, entries made online are hit & miss! It never syncs immediately and sometimes it's a few minutes but other times it's several hours. As I need to keep my phone and PC in constant sync I can't be sure if the sync has actually happened. Contacts changed on the computer take even longer to sync to the handset and can be from a couple of hours to more than a day..
There are also issues with the sync of certain calendar entries. In particular, recurring entries, for example: I set up a new entry on the PC (in Google Calendar) to repeat weekly for 10 weeks. I subsequently deleted 1 of the weeks on the handset but after the sync Google Calendar had also deleted an extra week at the end of the run. There are other examples but clearly recurring entries cause a problem. I can possibly live with the delayed sync but not the errors.
I've found that deleting the Gmail account and re-installing it resolves most issues for a while but that's not a practical solution. There's no point in Blackberry providing a sync feature if it can't be relied on but I'm not sure if this is actually a Blackberry problem or the network (Vodafone UK in my case). However, unless I can rely on the service it looks as though I'll need to renew my SyncMl license!
Any one else having these problems or can offer any help?

The lack of a reply from RIM on this topic and several others that are similar is disappointing.
I replied to another entry that had a similar issue. Rogers was also singularly unhelpful (they recommended I downgrade from 6.0 B2647). In my case, the BB has wireless sync turned on but it doesn't actually sync. the DM won't let me backup the calendar or restore it because wireless sync is on (even when I've turned it off).
Fingers crossed that RIM will fix the issue or at least answer with a workaround. Current workaround is manually syncing BB and online calendar each morning. Not good!

  • Exchange Calendar Won't Sync, Email & Contacts Sync Fine

I have a new 3GS and I set it up on my company Exchange server. Mail syncs fine. Contacts sync fine. My Calendar, however, won't sync to the phone at all. Not one single event. I've turned sync off and then back on, no luck. I've reset the phone, no joy. I've cleaned up all my old recurring appointments thinking maybe that would be the fix, nope. So far nothing I have tried will get the Calendar items to sync. What would allow the mail and contacts to sync just fine but prevent the calendar from working? Thanks!

I finally resolved this issue. I opened the calendar in outlook on my PC. I went to View>Current View>Categories. I expanded the list (click on the little "+" sign to expand) and then deleted EVERY entry. Some were current, but most were expired, and some went back to 2007. As soon as I deleted all of these entries, that basically wiped my Exchange calendar clean. There had to have been some corrupt entries in their that were preventing calendar sync, because once I cleared out all the entries, I sent myself a meeting request and it showed up instantly on the iPhone. All is right in the world again. Hope this helps others with the same problem.

  • Contact syncing - Facebook and Linked In when disabled

Does anyone else have a problem with contacts syncing in Facebook and Linked In contacts even when disabled ?

    Hi Andaleeb
I had tried this several times before but alas no luck, i had also tried <appdata\adobe\online services\Photoshop Elements 12.0.0> and added <_old> like i had seen in one of the forums but it took out Facebook and Flickr from the drop down menu in the Organizer, so reverted back. I have done a System Restore which did not work, then tried your sugestion several time again yesterday with no luck, then received your e-mail and tried it again and went throught the Authorization process 4 times then it actually uploaded a couple of photo's, so in suggest keep trying and it may take the hint and upload lol, thank you if you haden't sent the e-mail i might not have tried again, again thank you

  • Sync is grayed out.  Can no longer sync iPod classic with iTunes.

No longer able to sync iPod classic with iTunes.  The iPod is recognized, but sync is grayed out.  Any help out there?

I have the same problem with my ipod nano. I downloaded tunes from my old pc. ITunes does not recognise it from my new pc and I cannot sync.

  • Why is contact sync from iphone or ipad to local iMac address book gone?

An option for syncing contacts from iphone or ipad to iMac seems to be gone.  From searching other posts on this topic, I see where contact sync is now "through iCloud" but is this the EXCLUSIVE choice for syncing contacts?  In other words, there is no longer any sync of contacts NOT through iCloud; I cannot sync contacts from my iPhone to my iMac without it all being stored in the cloud.
This is absurd.  My iCloud was hacked (not a password issue on my iMac or any local trojan/etc there are support threads about this) and tons of spam sent to my contacts when I used to sync through the cloud.  I turned off iCloud sync for contacts and opted instead to sync from phone to mac and from iPad to mac and this was working just fine, keeping me nice and updated every day no matter where I modified any contacts.
Now it seems that is no longer possible.  Is this by design?  Why on earth was this removed?  Is it a "feature" of these new products to remove working sync methods and force everything through the cloud??

The ability to sync contacts, calendar and browser bookmarks directly from a Mac running Mavericks to an IOS device via USB or WiFi has indeed been removed. Synching through iCloud, Exchange, WebDAV or a similar cloud service is the only option now. You can comment to Apple in this issue via their feedback page, if you wish:

    Regards.

  • How do I stop my contacts syncing with Outlook 2011?

Hi - I have been using Outlook 2011 but I want to stop using it because it's really buggy.  I have opened sync services in Outlook and unchecked all, but how do I make my contacts sync with Address book again?  At present they will not

What is syncing between them ? If calendars, contacts, safari favourites then are you using the same iCloud account on both devices and have them enabled in Settings > iCloud on both ?
If apps, music, and/or ibooks that you buy on one device are automatically downloading on the other device then do you have automatic downloads enabled for them in Settings > iTunes & App Store on your phone/iPad ?

  • Contacts sync ****

In Feb this year I tried to get rid of my Palm V and bought an iPod Touch.
I was a happy man until end of June. Then contact sync **** broke out.
I had to move to a different laptop that runs Outlook 2000 instead of Outlook 2003.
Step #1: Try synching as usual

So at least since October 2008 there has been a lot of trouble with this Sync business on iPhone and iPod touches. In July 2009 the problem persists and no easy to find news from Apple on the issue.
I'm dreaming of the time where my Palm V used to do the job - a push of a button and synching is done - it's been like that for more than 10 years with that device. With Apple I was hoping to improve to photo synching - all I can do now is using the dreadful Windows Address book. I could also buy some Apple gear. But I won't yet since I think Apple should get it's software right on any platform - not just the one they built themselves.
What do you think - will there be a solution any time soon that helps fixing sync **** problems like the one describe above?

I know it may not make you feel any better, but I've not had any trouble with a 1st Generation or a 3G with syncing with Outlook 2003 or 2007. Both phones are still working flawlessly. Let me ask you as couple of questions about your problem. Is contact syncing the only thing that is not working? Have you been able to see your phone in iTunes and does Calendar sync?
For photos you mention, does the computer recognize the iPhone in My Computer under Scanners and Cameras? If so, you should be able to transfer photos the same way you do from any other digital camera. You would just use the same software you use for that purpose, or you can just click on the iPhone in the Scanner and Camera section and copy the photos from there.
