Content Definition Publish

Hi gurus,
We are (still) using Fatwire 7.5.
We need to publish a content definition from preview to the live website. This is an existing content definition which has been modified.
My question is: Will all the assets described by that content definition have their cache invalidated?
Thanks!
Mihai

Thank you Ravi for your answer.
My question was related to the cache of the assets described by the content definition. Say I have a content definition "Complex_Article" and I add a new content attribute to it.
Then I publish it to the live system.
What impact does this have on the cache of the "Complex_Article" assets that are already on the live environment? Does it get invalidated?

  • Content Type Publishing - Limitations?

    Hi,
I am running into some problems with the Content Type Publishing in SP2010.
    As background:
We have a farm with two SharePoint servers - one as WFE and one as App server.  A third shared SQL cluster hosts our databases
we are on SP2 for SP2010
We have Project Server 2010 also installed, also on SP2
We have 3 web applications - one as our Content Type hub, and two consuming web apps (http://content, http://epm and http://scm).
The EPM Web App hosts our biggest site collection - roughly 150GB in size, and about 1900 sub webs
Our content hub hosts around 450 content types
We seem to have a problem with the sync never finishing.  We are not sure how long this has been the case - we only recently noticed it while trying to apply some changes to the Content Types.
the timer job gets to 5% and then stays there "Running".
I am not even not sure how to monitor for errors in the ULS logs - I cannot seem to find the source for this.  Its also difficult to enable Verbose logging for the entire time that it  is running as it takes so long  and causes our drives
    to run out of space.
The question is, I suppose, does anyone else have experience in large situations like these? Are we perhaps running into a limitation?  Is there anything that we should, or should not, be doing?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Please try using PowerShell to update content type hub subscribers per the link below:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/aaronsaikovski/archive/2010/08/26/updating-content-hub-subscribers-using-powershell.aspx
If it still doesn’t work, please try alleviate the workload of timer job. You could update one web application one time, see if overburden causes the issue.
Or you could remove or unpublished most of the content types and see if that will make any difference. See the script below:
    function f($ct)
    try
    $site = new-object Microsoft.SharePoint.SPSite "http://sps/sites/hub"
    $ctpub = new-object Microsoft.SharePoint.Taxonomy.ContentTypeSync.ContentTypePublisher($site)
    $site.rootweb.availablecontenttypes | foreach-object{if($_.name -eq $ct){$ctpub.unpublish($_);write-host $_.name; write-host $ctpub.IsPublished($_) }}
    catch [Exception]
    Write-Host "Issue"
Or you could turning off the subscription of the consuming site collection, i.e. because some site collections have many subsites. Test the command to disable the feature “disable-spfeature taxonomyfieldadded -url http://....” before.

  • Embedded Color Profile is Lost When Content is Published to Web or Dragging Image Window on Desktop

Hello, Everyone.  I have a question that I have struggled to crack on my own to no avail.  I hope someone here can help.
I am trying to publish some images to the web using color corrected monitors, RAW format, and a color checker passport to create a perfeect color profile.  Here are the technical details and my workflow.
    Camera: Canon Rebel EOS Xsi
    Format: RAW + L
    Color Space: sRGB
    Color Checker: X-Rite ColorChecker Passport
Monitor Calibrator: Spyder4 Pro, fully updated software
    Computer: Lenovo T420 ThinkPad
Second monitor: Samsung LED SyncMaster SA350 (NVIDIA)
    Photoshop: v12.1 x64 (CS5.5)
Photoshop Color Settings: Custom North America Web/Internet
    RGB: sRGB IEC61966-2.1
CMYK: U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2
    Gray: Gray GAmma 2.2
    Spot: Dot Grain 20%
    Policies
    RGB: Preserve Embedded Profiles
    CMYK: Preserve Embedded Profiles
    Gray: Preserve Embedded Profiles
After importing the image into Photoshop, I make sure the RAW space is set to sRGB IEC6 1966-2.1
Use the eyedropper to select a neutral color one step away from pure white on the RAW image of the color checker, create and set the custom white balance.
    set the white balance
Export the image as a DNG
Load the DNG into the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport software to create a color profile
    Back to Photoshop
    Open the RAW file
Set the white balance to the custom profile created above
Set the color profile created with X-Rite
Open the color-corrected image in Photoshop (see color setting above)
    Save as JPEG
    Publish
First, everything seems to go great throughout this entire process, until I see the image on the Web: LINK.  Once published, the image has a very noticible golden-yellow tint to it.  The color-corrected image looks great on both color-calibrated monitors, in RAW and JPEG.  Absolutely perfect.  After noticing the ugly yellow tint in the image I posted to the Web, however, I became aware of a couple more weird things.
    1) When the JPEG was open in Photoshop and I moved the window that contained the image around on my second monitor, the image immediately took on that golden-yellow tint: you can see a screen shot of the color corrected image on my Samsung (bottom) and the yellow version of the same image created when I drag the window around on the Samsung (top) HERE.
    2) When opening the X-Rite software, I got a warning saying that the laptop monitor had been calibrated, but that the Samsung had not.  I got this error even if I calibrated the Samsung monitor right before using X-Rite.  Also, the monitor is definitely calibrated, because the images look great, and the colors match what I see on the laptop.
    3) Recently, I noticed that when waking my computer from sleep, the Samsung monitor no longer holds its Datacolor (Spyder4) calibration.
I thought the problem I was having might be due to the monitor, for the reasons stated above.  However, I later noticed that when I open the color-corrected JPEG with the default Windows image viewer, it retains the color correction settings.  The image looks fantastic, and doesn't lose it's color profile when I drag the window around.  Also, there seems to be less color loss in the Word documents and PDFs I included this image in: LINK.
I checked this with several more images, and the results are the exact same.  I scoured the Web as best I could, but my problem seems to be pretty unique.  Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this?
    Thank you!

Thank you, twenty_one, for taking the time to read my post and put up a reply.  I am going to rebuild my question and post it again here.  But first, to answer some of your points:
    1. A raw file has no color space, until it's opened into one in the raw converter. So this is controlled in ACR, not the camera.
I just wanted to be as thorough as possible.  One of the steps I took was to set the Color Space setting in my camera to sRGB:
    2. White balance has no bearing whatsoever on camera profiles. A profile is not for white balancing, it's to account for the spectral distribution of the light, which is something else. You make the profile and assign it in ACR, then you white balance for processing.
I know.  I wasn't talking about white balance in my camera.  I set the white balance here:
I grabbed the color for setting the WB here:
    3. If you get a message about monitor calibration upon opening the camera calibration software, something is seriously confused. The two have nothing to do with each other. No relation whatsoever.
    Camera calibration software?
    4. A corrupted monitor profile will only show up in Photoshop and other color managed software. Other applications that are not color managed will not use the profile and are not affected. So find out which apps are and which aren't before drawing any conclusions.
Agreed.  That's partly what I am trying to get help with.
    5. Your links don't work, and in any case clicking on links is something most people including myself dislike. It's much better to insert screenshots in the post, by using the camera icon in the reply box.
I'm new to this forum, so this is helpful to know.  This image shows the color-corrected image (bottom) on my Samsung.  It looks exactly the same in the same window on my laptop monitor.  When I move that window around on my Samsung screen, it turns gold (top).  The image, when posted to the web, looks *similar* to that gold color.
So let's say I only use Photoshop on my laptop, which is not displaying any colors.  Do you think the golden hue problem will go away?

  • Animation slides skip content in published flash

    Dear helpers and experts,
I may be new to Captivate, but have worked with all its
    predecessors...
My simple demonstration consists of 6 slides:
    a text slide;
    an animation slide built from an avi file (123 sec);
    a text slide;
    an animation slide built from an avi file (23 sec);
    a text slide;
an animation slide built from an avi file (165 sec)
When previewing all content is shown. Then I publish (export
HTML). The viewed flash skips the end of all animation slides: from
the first only 107 sec are displayed, from the second only 10
seconds, from the third only 110 seconds are displayed.
To be precise on the previw: it is the Play button on the
timeline where everything is played - not "Play this Slide" in the
Preview button - which creates a temporary flash file.
With uncompressed Flash it's the same problem.
    What went wrong here?

I have now found the source of my problem:
There is a difference whether I insert via
    1) Insert > Slide > Animated Slide - or
    2) Insert > Blank Slide; and then in the blank slide:
    Insert > Animation
In case 2 I get the dialog "New Animation" where I can set
options. In case 1 this dialog does not show up and with Slide
Properties the desired option can not be set.
The desired option to cure the problem is "Synchronize with
    Project".
The Help text concerning this option "Select this option to
synchronize the speed at which the animation file plays with the
Timeline speed. (If you find that the animation file is not playing
smoothly, test with this option selected and cleared to see which
setting gives you better results.)" did not trigger my brain at
first, because when playing the animation (imported avi) in the
TImeline it is displayed correctly with or without this option.
Hence: if the final flash file skips the end of imported
animations (eg avi) and jumps to early to the next slide:
    - Import the animation into a blank slide (do not import via
Insert > Slide > Animated Slide)
    - Set the option "Synchronize with project" in the "New
    Animation" dialog

  • Item Check out/in in content areas published as portlet

I have a content area I have published as a portlet. I have noticed that if I add an item (a file) and enable item check out, the icon to check out the file doesn't appear in the portlet. You have to open the content area in the content area navigation page to get the check out/in icon (and a few others.) Is there a way to do this inside the portlet?
    Thanks
    null

This is the intended behaviour, to simplify the portlet interface. You'll notice, too, that you can't edit a checked-out item in the portlet.
This will all change in the 3.1 release of the product.

  • Content Server - Publish to Directory Feature

Is there anyway to automatically publish content items to a folder in the Knowledge Directory in addition to the publishing target within Content Server? I see that you can rclick on individual "articles" and publish them to the KD. We just want that to happen automatically whenever an item is published.

The "reference" Content Item would use a Data Entry Template that had an item reference property, and a Presentation Template which just used the Insert tag on that item property, e.g. <pcs:insert expr="My_Item"></pcs:insert>.
Then you could create "reference" Content items that refered that item you want published multiple times, placing those "reference" Content items in a folder with a different publishing target. Thus when that "reference" item is published, it will effectively publish the item to which it refers to a different location. You could also employ the Related Item Publishing feature contained in the Data Entry Template in order to automate this somewhat, so that when one item is published the other is published automatically as well.
But this is all a bit of a hack and awkward. If you need to rely on identical published content existing in multiple places in a production setting, I still recommend using a file replication utility.

  • Content Server Publishing Target paths do not match

In Content Server 5.0.2, I need to change the publishing target information from a local mapped drive to an FTP site hosted by a third party. After entering all the information and I click "Test Publish Target", I get the following error:
"The site specified by the Browser Path does not match the Transfer Path location."
The transfer path looks something like this:
    ftp://upload.thirdparty.com/12345/target_folder/
and the browser path like this:
    http://download.server.com/target_folder/
Can someone tell me why I get this error? Is it because upload.thirdparty.com and download.server.com aren't the same (they are, in fact, different machines)? I don't think it's the "12345" folder that's causing this problem because I also specified it in the browser path and I got the same error.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -Jose

Just to follow up and in case anyone is interested, I was able to publish to my new destination folder in spite of receiving this error.
I assumed that I couldn't publish to the new destination because I was getting this error, but that's clearly not the case. I guess this "Path" check is there as a tool to help, but it doesn't necessarily apply to all configurations.

  • Mirroring Content Viewer / Published DPS

We are still in the testing phase and still using the free Content Viewer on our Original iPad and iPad 2. I've looked for this information but haven't been able to find anything. Does anyone know if your able to mirror Content Viewer to a projector? Or once you publish your folio, are you able to mirror it as well? From what I've read, only certain apps can be "mirrored" on the iPad.
We will be using the Apple Digital AV Adapter.

Maybe we're talking about two different things. I take my A/V cable for my ipad, plug it into the ipad's bottom port, and then connect it to our projector. From there I can display my ipad on the screen, and that includes running the Adobe Content Viewer as well as DPS publications from iTunes (such as National Geographic). I just did it now to confirm I'm not crazy

  • Content area publishing date

In the Content Area in Portal, publishing and Expiration of items are only listed in the format DD-MM-YYYY. Can these be set down to the hour/minute and how/where do you change this. I have tried DD-MM-YYYY:HH but did not work.

    Robert,
You can use Dynamic Pages for that for now.
    Hope that helps.

  • Changed content not publishing; button not highlighted

    Hi there,
I just upgraded to an iMac. Transferred iWeb domain successfully from laptop. Set up forwarding to my domain name since computer move and have not had any changes successfully update. Register.com says it's not on their end. My publish arrow button at the bottom of iWeb is not highlighted at all. My entries don't show up editable but all my changed content shows in iWeb application. It does not forward from "visit now" properly, only when I manually type in and also changes are not showing on the site. Also, site is supposed to not have www and mobile me tries to forward it to www. What the heck? I have manually published the entire site 50 times from the nav bar and no success. Should I undo the forwarding? It seems all problems started then.
    Thanks

Okay, I tried updating the website and publishing it from my laptop and that worked. I don't know why I am unable to visit from my site, but that's ok. I'm more concerned with changes. So the problem is with my new computer. How do I get the changes that are showing in iWeb on iMac to work?

  • Upload Content after publishing an Event

I want to publish an event I'm creating, but I don't have my content ready to upload. Can I upload the presentation after the event has been published? I don't want to hold up my registration while I prepare the presentation.
Message was edited by: ashish gupta. to add a more meaningful topic title

    Hi,
You can change the associated content of an event after event published.
Steps to change the associated content of an event  -
    1. Go to Event Information page of that event
    2. Click on "Select Content" link
    3. Select the appropriate content
    4. Click on Save button.

  • Skin is cropping content when published

    I created a 1200 x 700 project. When pulished it is coming
out as 1200 x 700 but the skin controls are covering about 25-26
pixels of the content at the bottom of the screen. It should be
publishing 1200 x700 of content with an additional 25-26 pixels for
skin controls at the bottom. I've never had this happen before and
for the life of me I can't figure out why it is now or how to fix
    it.

Brett, if borders are not enabled now and you choose to
enable them, be sure that you allow around 33 pixels for the border
(the number in the "Width" blank is the number of pixels I'm
talking about). The adjustment of this will be shown in the
thumbnail preview, so change it to your liking, then click "OK" to
save and close the dialog. NOTE: This number may change depending
on the playback control style you choose.
An alternative to this procedure is to resize your project
(PROJECT > RESIZE PROJECT) to make enough room at the bottom of
your "stage" for the playbar, then go back to PROJECT > SKIN
menu to elect not to display borders at all. The advantage of this
way of doing it is that you can a void having the extra SWF
generated for the border, during publishing.

  • Unnecessary space within the content after publish

So im redesigning our ministry's website using muse because I just absolutely love the platform, and also because I am not much of a coding expert. But anyways I am having a problem when I preview or publish my site.
Here is a temporary business catalyst link so that you can see it for yourself: http://provision7.businesscatalyst.com/about-us.html
If you scroll to the bottom of the page (it is a long page) you will see that muse has extended the transparent shape behind the text field for no reason that I can figure out... I am stumped. I have looked up many threads and answers and still cannot figure out what is causing this. It does not show up in my design view, only in preview or publish.
The wierd thing about all of this is that when I delete the transparent shape completely and then preview it, the extra space is gone. So I am guessing there might be a bug in the shape tool or something, but I hope that doesn't mean I have to start all over in a new project.
Let me know if you can help! Thanks!
    - Oh and I just figured out that it shows up normal on Firefox, so to see the issue be sure to use Safari or Google Chrome.

This page has a long text flow that uses the "Web Safe" font Georgia. Web Safe fonts are live text in the browser and every browser has it's own line layout engine that will result in slight difference in line breaks, and thus the total height of a text flow. Also "Web Safe" fonts are really a stack of fonts similar for the browser to try. In this case the browser will use Georgia is the site visitor has it installed. If it doesn't find Georgia, it will fall back to Palatino, Palatino Linotype, Times, Times New Roman, and finally any serif font.
I expect what's happening is you've drawn a rectangle behind the text that has a very specific height which nicely fits how the text lays out in Muse Design view using Georgia (or whichever the first font in the stack is on your machine). When you subsequently export/publish the site and view it in a browser, the line breaks will be slightly different just due to subtle differences between browsers (so a long text flow will commonly be a few lines longer or shorter). If on top of that the machine being used to view the page doesn't have the same font you have, the line breaks will likely be significantly different and the text frame height may be significantly different.
For your particular design, the easiest approach would be to delete the rectangle that's behind the text frame and instead use the text frame itself to both draw the box and the text. Set the fill of the text frame, round the corners of the text frame and in the Spacing panel set the Padding values in order to indent the text from the edges of the text frame. Now when the text frame grows are shrinks due to changes in the line breaks on of the text, the background box (which is just the text frame) will just follow along.

  • Are there any limitations on the amount of content published using Adobe DPS?

I can not find any information on this and i need to know if there are any as it might pose a problem regarding the publication i am currently looking to make.
Also, why is there no way to contact customer service? I can not find any forms or e-mail adresses to inquire my questions.
    Best,
    Kim

    Bob,
We created .IPA files and it behaves pretty much the same as Content Viewer:
    - With the small number of articles (about 30, some having up to 30 pages), it is stable even on iPad1, just a bit slow to render new pages with random browsing.
But once we added more articles (the target is 150+ as this is the size of content we publish), at some point the app started crashing on both iPad1 and iPad3. The same is for the Content Viewer on iOS.
I understand your concern as a reader, regarding lengthy articles (your earlier post in this thread). We created a secondary navigation UI to ensure every page in every article can be reached with no more than 3 taps, so it is supposed to be read in a WebSite-alike fashion.
But, technically speaking, there seems to be a barrier that we are not aware of. This barrier prevents from creating complex and content-rich folios, as good as books created with Apple's iBooks Author. and possibly better.
Given the lack of definite answers on this particular matter, I started to doubt: is Adobe really interested in supporting folks creating  publications like multimedia references with this product?
If it appears that DPS/Folio is only suitable for simulating printed glossy magazines and corporate catalogs, than we might have chosen a wrong tool for the job
But I still hope to get helped...
    Anyone???
