Contribute Problem

I have successfully connected to site with Contribute ftp and
was able to access all pages and then edit. After editing a page I
published it and it appeared that was also successful. I am using
Yahoo geocities and in the file manager it shows that the file was
updated as the date and time was changed. But the updates somehow
never make it to the site...Any ideas???
Bruce

I am having the exact same problem! Our administrator hasn't
worked here in over two years and we don't have the password so we
can reassign the admin access to someone else.

    I am not an experienced user (I work with a non-profit, and
    we learn
    as we go), so I apologize if this is a simple question...
    The logic board on my computer crashed, so I lost access to
    the
    Dreamweaver files of our site on my computer. While it was
    being
    repaired, I set up a Contribute connection on another
    computer so I
    could edit pages that needed immediate attention. Now, I have
    my
    computer back, and am trying to sync my Dreamweaver files
    with the
    pages on the server, and it won't let me have access to any
    pages that
    I changed through Contribute. Help, please! What do I need to
    do?
    Thanks,

    Is there an error or warning message? if yes- what exactly is

    as a guess the files are still out as drafts or some other
    thing that has
    them checked out so no one else should edit them. Simple

  • His website is being administered with a newer version of Contribute problem...

    hello...
    i was considering an upgrade to adobe master suite, so i downloaded a trial verison on my mac laptop. since then, the trial has expired, and i have purchased a new laptop as the old one was on it's way out.
    on my new laptop i re-loaded and re-activated my contribute CS3 which i purchased a few years ago, but as i had accessed my website using the CS5, i can no longer connect to it on CS3...and as the trial version of CS5 has expired, i can't go in and switch it to "transition" mode...
    what can i do to access my website with CS3? kinda desperate to make some updates!
    thank you!

    If you have FTP credentials to access your server, then you can FTP to your server and delete the cthub***.csi file under _mm folder. (Better to take backup before deleting).
    Note:- This will remove all you adminitrative settings and roles. Your site will be link a unadminitered site.

  • DW/Contribute Problems

    Hello,
    Does Anyone Here Work With Large Websites and DW/Contribute?
    I made a website using DreamWeaver and My client adds/changes
    content using Contribute..
    The site has gotten very large over the past three or four
    years.
    It is actually a site within a site although the two sites
    have separate urls:
    http://www.nfada.com/
    and
    http://www.buffaloautoshow.com/
    I have to edit the interior site by taking the folder out of
    the main site's folder.
    Reason, the templates from both site might get confused with
    each other.
    However, recently since I have to download the entire site
    before I work on it, so I won't overwrite any changes the
    client has made, when I download the entire site, all of the
    pages on both sites can not find their links, images, scripts, css,
    etc.
    In doing a little research, all of the links to images on all
    of the pages (and scripts and css links) have an extra ../ in them
    as in the following
    img src="../images/image.jpg" width="106" height="106">
    It takes me hours to fix this every time even though I use
    the "find and change" feature in Dreamweaver..
    Can anyone help me with this...? Please..
    Many Thanks in advance..
    Betsy

    It is a setting within your site definition. I assume thought
    that you are using DW8. I think it was in the same place on mx04
    and mx, but I do not remember(it has been a while).

  • Testing Contribute Problem

    is there any way to test contribute but not on the live site?

    you have a test site which is bundeled along with Contribute. You can find the link in "How Do I?" panel(located in the left bottom of contribute. It is located in the first link in the panel.
    OR
    You can set up your own IIS on a test macine and enable FTP. You can connect to this site and try out contribute.

  • Absolute image links in Contribute/Dreamweaver

    Can anyone tell me how to force Contribute to make all the
    image links absolute (i.e.
    http://www.adobe.com/images/sampleimage.jpg)
    in Dreamweaver.
    I want to send out html emails and I spec out absolute links
    in Dreamweaver but when I edit the html document in Contribute, the
    links get changed to relative.
    HTML emails need absolute paths. I've read that Contribute
    fixed this in CS3 but I just bought Contribute the other day and my
    links keep switching back.
    HELP!?!?!?!
    Thanks in advance!
    Rodney

    How will you send the emails? Will you use an email-client on
    the client-side or create a server-side solution?
    Server-side:
    I solved this Contribute problem by using PHP and
    str_replace.
    $strMessageStrip = $_POST['message'];
    $strMessageStrip2 = str_replace("../", "
    http://www.yourdomain.com/",
    $strMessageStrip);
    $strMessageStrip3 = str_replace("../images/", "
    http://www.yourdomain.com/images/",
    $strMessageStrip2);
    etc...
    Client-side:
    The only solution I can think of is creating Editable regions
    for the text and use default image positions outside the editable
    regions and let your client change the images by putting new images
    on the server with the same name as the old ones.

  • Error Pages in Contribute

    Hey - I've been fighting with DW CS4 for three days (I screwed up some code and it kept crashing). Now I've got it up and running (though I have some menu problems).
    My Contribute problem is this: Several people in our office update via Contribute. They can open the program and our main page (index.html) comes up, but if they try to navigate to any other page, they get an error "404 Page Cannot be Found". Even though I've sent them new connection keys and those pages are live on the site.
    The only thing I can see is that my site info (through InMotion hosting) is: http://vps####/sitename/username. That has always been the same with no issues. However, if I type in my "normal" web address (www.ncsoccer.org/admin/index.html , it will show up in Contribute.
    Any suggestions as to what I've done to foul this up?
    Thanks.
    Mark

    Hey Krishna:
    Thanks for the reply. We can navigate to the pages, but using our direct links - www.ncsoccer.org . I didn't change any folder paths. I've had two issues that have killed me over the last 8 days.
    1. The Contribute issue; and
    2. I revised my drop down menus and now in IE they fly to the right and don't drop down. However in FF and Chrome, they work fine.
    When I revised the menus, that's when the Contribute problem started.
    However, I think I have the Contribute problem fixed. I made another connection to our site, but instead of routing directly to our server (vps####.inmotionhosting.com), I routed straight to our site (http://www.ncsoccer.org) and routed the FTP info to the server (vps####). Now it seems everyone can open and edit pages.
    However, my menus still fly out to the right instead of dropping down (IE only) and I don't what code I've deleted/revised/screwed up to make it do that.
    A special note - the person the built the site hasn't responded for assistance. Inside the 'sprymenubarhorizontal.css" are some IE hacks for "menu stabilization". I don't know if those are the problem or me!
    I just don't know enough about css and spry to know what I'm looking at!
    Thanks again.

  • Error on Checking/Unchecking "Show"

    I an a designer getting ready to train my client in
    Contribute CS3. I have considerable experience with optional
    editable areas in DW templates and training clients in how to make
    items visible and not visible.
    However, in my current website I receive an error whenever I
    check or uncheck the Show box. (Also, I am using the MM_swapImage
    behavior in the top menu.)
    Format>Template Properties > either click or unclick
    the Show checkbox for an editable optional area, I receive this
    error message.
    While executing onLoad in Swap Image.htm, the following
    JavaScript error(s) occurred:
    At line 303 of file "C:\Program Files\Adobe]Adobe Contribute
    CS3\Configuration\Behaviors\Actions\Swap Image.js";
    TypeError: dw.getBehaviorTag is not a function
    I then have to press the OK button on the error message 5 or
    more times, the error message then disappears, and I am able to
    click the Publish button and it successfully publishes the page.
    How can I prevent this error message from appearing.
    Here's a page on the site I'm building.
    http://www.sivitzdesigns.com/about.php

    In "Swap Image.js" change line 303
    from: if (!dw.getBehaviorTag())
    to: if (dw.getBehaviorTag && (!dw.getBehaviorTag()
    and change line 306
    from: if (dw.getBehaviorElement()) selTag =
    dw.getBehaviorElement().tagName;
    to: if (dw.getBehaviorElement &&
    dw.getBehaviorElement()) selTag = dw.getBehaviorElement().tagName;
    You'll have to change it on your user's computer. It's a
    Contribute problem, not a Dreamweaver problem. The complete code
    snippet with before and after is:
    function initializeUI(){
    var niceNameSrcArray=new Array(), nameArray, i, selTag="";
    var imgSrcArray = new Array();
    var endsWithZero = /\[0\]$/; //ref ends with [0]
    //Determine if RESTORE is an option. If not, remove UI for
    it
    //the dw.getBehaviorTag() check ensures the checkbox
    //is not available if a behavior is attached to a timeline
    var removeCheckbox = false;
    //david, this was: if (!dw.getBehaviorTag())
    if (dw.getBehaviorTag && (!dw.getBehaviorTag() ))
    //if behavior is in a timeline
    removeCheckbox = true;
    else {
    //david, this was: if (dw.getBehaviorElement()) selTag =
    dw.getBehaviorElement().tagName;
    if (dw.getBehaviorElement &&
    dw.getBehaviorElement()) selTag = dw.getBehaviorElement().tagName;
    and then the rest of the function.

  • Appearance in different browsers

    My web pages look fine in Safari, but lose almost all
    formatting in Firefox and Explorer. Is there a setting wrong that I
    can adjust or do I have to live with it?
    Thanks.

    How are you designing your pages? There are a lot of reasons
    why this could be happening. This doesn't sound like a Contribute
    problem, but rather a problem with the markup of the pages
    themselves. You could try the W3C HTML Validator for
    starters.

  • SLOW ibook, HD working all the time, need diagnosis !

    Hello !
    I need comments and thoughts. I experience problems that might relate to this thread : (ie hard drive failure, than replacement) http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1045960&tstart=75
    Symptoms begun lightly, thant increased so i cannot identify one cause. The ibook is now just impossible to work with, for example, booting can take 10 to 20 min, opening an app can take two or three min, and there are delays for real simple actions (opening a folder, closing a window, scrolling in the dock...). everything takes time, delays, freezes and spinning beachball.
    Meanwhile, once i openened and work with in an application (Word for ex), it's ok.
    The HD makes noises just like it's working all the time, swapping files, or just as if i had a great resource consuming task in the background. I'm not skilled enough to read Activity Monitor for the disk usage, but the CPU and RAM both look ok.
    Of course, i thought the HD's in trouble so here's what i remember having done yet :
    • Maintenance scripts, repair permissions (very long), zapping PRAM, PMU, etc... usual stuff, many times
    • Fsck or "repair disk" are long, but don't tell any problem ; SMART status is verified, free space on the disk is almots 20 Go
    • Running tech tool deluxe, from "apple protection plan" wich sees nothing
    • Archive and install (problems still here even if slightly better for some time)
    • Clean install with total HD erase (same comment)
    • Boot without Ram and airport card
    That's where i'm at. I have two questions :
    • Would it be good to get Apple Hardware Test (my version is too old), and running it in loop mode ? what about diskwarrior ?
    • Could it be something else than a hard drive problem ?
    Thanks a lot for your help and clues !
    ps : anyway, i'm getting to the idea that i have to buy a new book. Also, i think i'll give up buying second-hand macs, from now on
    cheers
    Ben

    Benjamin,
    *Check your console messages.*
    One contributing problem I've noticed is the growth of operating systems as we patch them. Mine loads quickly, but desktop operations have a 5 to 10 second response time. It loads quickly because the 5 GB free is contiguous, offering plenty of room for swap files, usually about 5 Mb each. Its response time is presumably slow because it is swapping processes rather than paging.
    I don't know at what amount of free space MacOSX switches from efficient paging to disk to slow swapping of whole processes to disk. However, it's unlikely you have 20 GB of free space.
    When I once had 7.5 GB of free space, the computer stopped. The console told me I hadn't sufficient contiguous freespace to create a new 5 MB (MB not GB!) swap file. (Swap files have to be contiguous.) Your computer may be swapping rather than paging. This I can easily imagine if you upgraded operating systems by modifying the previous (as Apple suggests), and applied all its patches (needed for security). Apple warns this will happen if you create & delete movies.
    Booting shouldn't take 10 or 20 minutes on a damaged hard drive, it should stop at the first sign of damage. I can probably imagine it taking that long reading files whose pieces are scattered, and executing startup and OS files that need a large amount of virtual memory.
    It's likely that Word, made by Microsoft, violates acceptable civil behavior and takes excessive real memory, minimizing disk swapping.
    What is puzzling is the
    • Clean install with total HD erase (same comment).
    That should have cured any disk fragmentation, unless it was a fast backup and restore of a disk image, which doesn't defragment files as it reads & writes them.
    Here's how to check for excessive disk fragmentation:
    1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Console and read its messages;
    2. Open /Utilties/Disk Monitor and examine the Disk Activity graph for a while.
    a. If it spikes regularly, it's likely a background application of your doesn't respect your power saver. Remove these one-by-one to find the problem one & write the company. You want your drive to sleep when possible.
    b. To the point, if the curve stays near the top all the time, the virtual memory of ordinary programs, which should normally happily stay put in 20 GB of space are all competing for the contiguous spaces between tiny files. This is like a children's game we play, called 'musical chairs'.
    Further, the memory manager is running full speed (using CPU time and real memory, exacerbating the problem). When more time is spent looking for space for swap files than writing them, we say the disk is 'thrashing'. The disk then makes the sound yours does, and the computer does almost nothing useful.
    c. Just an idea, but 'Disk Utility' lets you create 'disk images', empy files of any size you request. (I may have modified mine to do this.) If your disk is severely fragmented, the maximum size file you can create may be small. This is just a sufficient condition for fragmentation, not a necessary one.
    d. Install this in Utilities and run it:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27329
    It measures the degree of file fragmentation on any drive.
    *Possible Solution*
    If excessive fragmentation is the problem, various commercial utilities will defragment your drive. However, I never use commercial utilities, so I run the shareware iDefrag.
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/25411
    This is now US$ 30. Though you can run an algorithm that would fix excessive fragmentation from the boot disk, it's normal to install it on a CD (which they provide a program for). If you install it on your second computer as well, so you can place yours in Target Disk Mode, threats appear that give 'termination' a new meaning.
    Others will tell you that the advanced HFS+ filesystem doesn't need defragmenting. It is true that on a G3 iBook, defragmenting files and optimizing their order will not speed up the machine if it has many, large, unfragmented freespaces: the speed bottleneck is elsewhere. (It will greatly speed a G4 Mac.) However, defragmentation is eventually necessary to create these freespaces.

  • What is going on with "buffering"?

    When I TRY to download a song from the itunes store.....I get "Buffering" and song stops and starts......takes 8 minues to download a song.
    What is going on??????

    I went pretty crazy and wrote a number of posts about ATV2 problems. I ended up spending a 100$ I didn't have on a high speed switch so I could hardwire my ATV2 to my Airport Extreme Router. Now, it works properly 9 times out of 10, leaving me generally satisfied, but still realizing there is probably some contributing problem out there in Apple cyberspace. There was an interesting sidelight, though, and I am hoping that a serious techie out there can address this for me and tell me if there could be a problem with my Airport Extreme, Airport Extremes in general, or something that is just characteristic of wireless communication in general. It might have a point of reference for many other posters.
    At first I was upset because I was getting those "Ready to play in 2-6 hour messages" even though my Internet connection constantly tested at 15-20 Mbps on my iMac at numerous sites, not fast enough to set fire to my house, but certainly fast enough to avoid these messages. Then I did something I should have done first, I downloaded a Speed Test for my iPad so that I could check what kind of speeds were actually being received by my IPad at the same exact distance from the router as my Apple TV2. What I found was insane fluctuation. I did tests every 30 sec. for a half an hour. What I discovered was that my download connect speeds were changing radically every single time I tested it, going back and forth from speeds as fast as 16 Mbps to as slow as 1 Mbps. That undoubtedly had to have raised havoc with Apple TV's ability to download the movie. Since the speeds on my iMac were constant, something was happening to the signals that left my router. Is this a common wireless router problem, a common Airport Extreme problem, or a problem with my specific router? Techies out there might be able to tell us if such fluctuations in speed for those who connect wirelessly might in part contribute to the problems that caused all these threads.

  • Usb port can't find hardware for ipod so won't show on itunes

    My computer says it the usb port for my ipod is unknown and won't show it on my my itunes so i can't add new music. I already installed the whole thing again but it still didn't work. Any ideas?

    I have a similar problem - my computer always tells me it does not recognize my USB device or that the device has malfunctioned and then the iPod shuts off. I found a few support articles on the issue.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61711
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301343
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136
    None of these help me because I think my problem is the last one (iPod is not recognized properly by computer when USB drivers are not installed properly or are out of date) but the fix requires the iPod to be turned on.
    my ipod also has minimal battery life at this point, which may be a contributing problem.
    can anyone help me?

  • Contribute CS4 and CS5 file transfer (publish) problem on Windows 7 64 bit

    Have a problem with Contribute CS5 and CS4  on Windows 7 64 bit where upon editing a webiste for example to add a new page (or edit an existing one) and then clicking on "publish" a blank page appears on the website. To explain this further, If i make the required changes to the page and select the option to publish the file later then the file wirtten to the PC appears to be ok and has all the changes, but as soon as I publish it, only a blank page appears on the web server.  ie the upload (ftp) process does happen but the content of the page is being stripped out somewhere during the filt transfer process.
    I have editied the same site with CS4 on windows XP without any problems.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated
    Thank you
    Chris

    I seem to have solved the issue by downloading this install file
    ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.2/enu/AdbeRdr920_en_US.exe
    which installs successfully.

  • Dreamweaver & Contribute Administration Problem

    I've got an odd scenario for a client site that I
    inherited after several other developers were involved over the
    past 2 years... I fear that the one who created the Contribute
    Administration interface is the one where there are some other
    legal problems involved, and there is no relationship left. If I
    contacted them, they would not cooperate. Sad but true.
    What I want to do is remove the previous Contribute linkage
    and then reinstall a new Contribute site administration that I can
    drive henceforth. I use Dreamweaver MX 2004 (still) and have no
    problem at all in accessing a client site via FTP, but the second
    problem is that I don't actually have total access to the hosting
    server panel as usually is the case. So, if this is going to
    involve deleting specific files, I'll need to know what to look for
    (if it's within my view) or what to direct the hosting contractor
    to find & delete.
    I presently update all content on the existing site design,
    but that's not very efficient and it's expensive at my rates for me
    to doing the day-to-day content update that the client could easily
    manage themselves via Contribute. Every time I first access the
    server via Dreamweaver FTP to upload new files, I'm prompted about
    enabling Contribute connectivity. I have Contribute, but don't have
    this client's Contribute Administration keys or details. Those are
    forever lost, I'm afraid.
    I've recently redesigned the site, and it would be ideal to
    enable my client to use Contribute. However, I'm caught in a loop
    since there is no way to access the orignal Contribute site keys.
    How can I find and remove the existing Contribute Administration,
    then reinstall Contribute with new Contribute Administration of the
    site? If I try to administer the site via Dreamweaver (Manage Site
    - Contribute tab), once it checks through the cache, I get an error
    that says "Could not find a page at the specified site root URL.
    Please check the site root URL." I'm wondering if the previous
    developer may have actually deleted something just to be nasty...
    they were pretty vile and unprofessional about a lot of things.
    This is far from the typical scenario I'm used to where I
    always have total control over the hosting environment, too.
    However, relative to an e-commerce component of their site, when
    I've had issues and knew what to ask for, the site hosts have been
    pretty responsive. I might be able to ask for specific files to be
    removed if I could only know what to direct them to do.
    Any ideas? Many thanks.

    > open up a third-party FTP client and log into the remote
    server.
    > Look for a folder named _mm that contains a file named
    contribute.xml
    >
    > delete that file and folder.
    Alternative:
    download the contribute.xml file and open it in a text
    editor.
    There is a way to reset the contribute Admin password if you
    get this far
    and want to leave the setup as-is but don't know the
    password.
    i can google for the answer i've given in the past, short
    version of what i
    remember, look in the .xml file for
    password="randomcharacters" and change
    it to password="" meaning password has no contents.
    upload the contribute.xml file to same location on the remote
    server.
    then login using contribute admin, and when prompted for
    password don't type
    anything, just hit enter key. Then reset the password.
