Control User Access in Desktop/Admin

Hi,
I have two versions of Discoverer Desktop/Admin software - one is 10.1.2.45.48 and another is 10.1.2.54.25. Since both are 10g versions there is no change in EUL. Both versions of discoverer are configured for same set of databases.(database versions are 9i and 10gR2)
There is a chance that I open a workbook in 54.25 version of discoverer, make some changes and save it. Obviously Oracle doesnt support backward compatibility. So I want to know can we restrict such things. I mean an alert or prevent making any changes in EUL/Workbook.
Cherrish

Hi Cherrish
I guess the question I would have to ask is why do you want to keep both versions of Discoverer Admin / Desktop on your machine? Because you have upgraded to 10.1.2.54.25 why don't you delete the older 10.1.2.45.48?
There is no need for you to keep it any longer and it will only cause problems if you leave it there.
As to your question, I'm afraid there is no way to prevent any changes in an EUL / Workbook.
Best wishes
Michael

  • Exam 1Z0-007 and questions from Controlling User Access

    Hi,
I am preparing for exam 1Z0-007 and going to give this exam in two weeks. I like to confirm if "Controlling User Access" topic is part of this exam 1Z0-007? I have checked on Oracle website and this topic is not a part if this exam anymore unless they add it later.
Has anyone recently given this exam and were there any questions related to "Controlling User Access" or user Privileges?
    Thanks

ThanksI recommend people are very very very careful in answering this question as it could be very easy to breach one's certification candidate agreement.

It is certainly true the topic you mentioned is in ISBN: 007-219537-1 printed in 2001.
It is also apparent, unless bigdelboy's eyeball is deceiving him, the topic does not appear in [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_org_id=28&lang=US&p_exam_id=1Z0_007] which is authorative.
I have not followed these things that closely until recently, however this will not be the only example of an OraclePress/Sybex book being left behind because of errata/topic updates etc. These often occur when the exams are update for new releases, eg from 10gR1 to 10gR2; or for when the exam moves from beta to production (sometimes these books are prepared and even pulbished while exam is in beta). In your case I suspect the change quite probably have occured when the exam moved from 9gR1 to 9gR2 or to better accomodate the WDP programme. The exam may also be influenced by the content of Oracle training courses that are being taught and from time to time these will be chaged for a variety of reasons.
How you handle it is up to you ..... you may:
    - ignore these topics. IMHO you are always entitled to complain if questions asked did not sigificantly match the published topics and you feel this caused you to fail. (I assume the remedy would be a retake voucher). You can hit a comment button on the question and also a comment button the the end of the exam. This is a sort of negative approproach.
    - Go over these topics. If your're serious about Oracle you really need to understand this anyway. See it as an opportunity. A few hours revision ought tosee you able to answer 50% of he topics. This is a positive approach. And this if how certification study ought to be .... sometimes it good to investigate a non examined topic that is interesting.

  • App-V 5 SP2 and Office 2013 - How to control user access?

What is the best way to control access to the Office 2013 application shortcuts?
Because it must be published globally, how can we only allow certain users to access Office 2013 on RDS servers when the default action would mean all users can access it?
Can removing the shortcuts using the DeploymentConfig file (see

If so how would this be done?

  • Control user access in SOA Suite 11.1.1.2 Console

    Hi All,
We recently migrated our application from SOA Suite 11.1.1.1 to 11.1.1.2 . In 1.1 we had an end user account assigned to the Monitor group which could access the middleware console and view composite flows but could not deploy/undeploy or retire/activate processes. However the same user in 1.2 can log in to the console but cannot view a composite flow.
In the dashboard we get the following error:
    Unable to retrieve composite details.
Error retrieving Composite CompositeName (1.0) details from soa-infra runtime. This could happen due to the errors in soa-infra initialization. Please view the log files for details.
EJB Exception: ; nested exception is:
java.lang.RuntimeException: Caller doesn't have enough permission to call this method.
My question is... how do we create a user in weblogic which will allow a user to view process flows but wont not deploy/undeploy or retire/activate privileges?
    Thanks in advance,
    Shaf

So the reason is, you need to add users/groups to the SOAMonitor Application Role for them to be able to view instance data. Below are the instructions.
Here are the instructions on how to create Monitoring Roles:
Instruction to add SOA application role SOA Monitor to user "monitoruser":
    1. log in em as weblogic user
    2. right click on SOA/soa-infra(soa_server1) on the left panel and select Security => Application Roles.
    3. click on the "play button" to select "Role Name". A list will appear and you select SOAMonitor. The page "Application Roles > Edit Application Role" appears.
    4. Click Users/Add Users, a "Add User" popup appears. Click on the "play button", select user "monitoruser" from left column and move it to the right column. And click on "ok"
If you have your WebLogic environment set up per EDG Guidelines (where your admin servers and managed servers are on different hosts or same host, different directories) you may not be able to see the list of Application Roles in the above instructions. First you would need to copy your JAZN Policies to the Admin Server or move to LDAP. The SOA Application Roles and policies will likely be stored in your mserver configuration (if you deployed SOA there). A restart is not required afterwards.
As per the docs EDG deployment requires OID for policy store because there are two copies of policy store file, system-jazn-data.xml:
    $ORACLE_BASE/admin/soaedg_domain/mserver/soaedg_domain/config/fmwconfig/system-jazn-data.xml
    and
    $ORACLE_BASE/admin/soaedg_domain/aserver/soaedg_domain/config/fmwconfig/system-jazn-data.xml
    EDG states in section 11.1.1
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/core.1111/e12036/oam.htm#CACJADGI
"...The Oracle Fusion Middleware SOA Suite EDG topology uses different domain homes for the Administration Server and the Managed Server, thus Oracle requires the use of an LDAP store as policy and credential store for integrity and consistency..."

  • Control user access to FBL3N by cost center

    Hi Expert,
    Need your advice.
Our user wish to control the staffs access to FBL3N by cost center.
This is due to the FBL3N contains salaries posting for different department.
However the FBL3N GL listing report also contain documents without cost center.
Any ideas how can we perform the control ?  If the FBL3N can amend with include cost center as checking, for the rest of GL without cost center, is it accessible by all users ?
    thanks.
    rgds,
    tee

    Hi Experts,
Sorry for misleading.  Initiate the request was to retrict the access with cost center object, since it is not possible.  So we will advice the user to restrict the GL access.
Just need to confirm, can we modify the FBL3N object F_BKFP_BES : Account authorization for G/L accounts from Check to Check/Maintain ?  So that we can assign certain GL only accessible by normal users.
And any impact on this once the changes is make ?
    thanks.

  • How do I allow parental controlled users to access third party apps on the admin account?

I just set my son up with a separate parental controlled user account and he can't seem to access some third party games that we installed for him under my admin account. He has saved progress on these games that we don't want to lose, so I don't want to reinstall them. I checked them off as allowed apps, but when he tries to play- the game icon shows up in the doc then changes to the updater icon and they won't run. I've searched for answers to this question, but can't seem to find any. Please help? My son and I would be very grateful!

  • Where can i see which user(s) has access to Discoverer Admin or desktop?

    Hello
I am new to a company. Where can i see which employees have access to Discoverer Admin and / or Desktop editions?
So i want to know 2 things:
    1. Who are the discoverer users in the company?
    2. What reports do they have access to?
    thank you
Edited by: iandekoker on Feb 20, 2009 2:46 PM

    Hi,
If the user has Discoverer Administrator/User installed on there PC then they will have access to the tools. They will also need Admin or Desktop access to the Discoverer EUL. You can install the Discoverer V5 Business Area and run the EUL Management workbook to see all the Discoverer users, what privileges they have and which workbooks have been shared to the users/roles. See metalink note 556932.1 for details of how to install this Business area which is shipped with Discoverer Admin.

  • I can not re-install/ update apple iTunes on my HP PC running Win7-64.  I get a registry key error when installing and am asked to make sure I have access.  IT is a home PC with one user and I have admin priveledges.

When the updater notified me of an iTunes update, I selected the update option.  The update failed and killed the version I was running.  I have tried for a year to fix the problem without sucess.  I can't completely remove all Apple products.  I can not install any apple products especially iTunes which is the only one I am interested in.
When I install iTunes now I get a registry key error similar to this:
I am using a machine where I am the only user and am the Admin.   I have looked at the security settings on this key and see nothing wrond with it or the parent keys.  I tried removing all apple products but ran into similar problems.  At this time I still have Bonjour. Mobile Device Support, Software Update, and Application Support installed.

These ones are tricky. But the following instructions are worth a try.
First do a complete uninstall of iTunes and related components (but don't reinstall just yet), as per the following document:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    a. Launch regedit (Start >> Search Programs and Files >> type Regedit and open the regedit that comes up.)
    b. Access the following Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData \S-1-5-18\Components
    c. Perform the following actions
    i. Right Click on Components Folder
    ii. Select Permissions
iii. Select Full Control and Read Permissions options
    iv. Select Advanced Button
    v. Select Owner Tab
vi. Select to Change Owner to the Administrators
vii. Check the option “Replace owner on subcontainers and objects”
viii. Select OK when prompted that it may not change all.
    ix. Select Apply
    x. Select Apply again
    xi. Exit the Registry Editor
Now try reinstalling iTunes again. Does it go in properly this time?

  • How do I remote control a user in remote desktop services in Windows Server 2012?

    Hello,
we currently operate in a 2008 R2 environment with the majority of clients connecting to our terminal servers.  We use the remote control feature in terminal services manager to connect to a users session when a user phones our helpdesk with
    a question / issue.
Just today I've installed 2012 server on a hyper-v virtual machine to have a play with it.  I've installed the Remote Desktop Services and noticed this remote control feature is gone.  I can still log off or send a message to a user, but I can
no longer remote control their session.
I've seen one or two other posts stating this feature has been removed completely.
    So, a couple of questions:
    1. How on earth do I "shadow" or connect to a users session now?
    2. If I have to go third party to get this functionality back, what's the best software on the market for this and does it support remote connecting of users who have their RDP session span multiple monitors? (2008 R2 doesn't)
    3. Will Microsoft ever bring this feature back? as at this stage I doubt we would move to 2012.  This is the one feature that is crucial to the day-to-day running of our helpdesk.
    Cheers.

A large percentage of our IT support business is through remote management. Most of our large enterprise customers are Terminal Server environment (now called Remote Desktop - why does Microsoft have to change EVERYTHING - how would they feel if I changed
the colour of the sky from blue to red just because I could?).
Last week, after much expense to the customer (and realising that there WOULD be some cosmetic headaches to contend with Server Management) we installed a new "Remote Desktop Server" for them and shifting them from 2003 - a big leap so we discovered.
During deployment it came as a HORRIFIC surprise that we could not remote control user's sessions!
Yes, we ARE to blame for not fully realising the cock-up Microsoft has made for us. We should have fully researched every detail of what changes they made and what they have robbed us of.
Firstly, the removal of the ability to fully manage user's sessions came as a HUGE blow!
The remaining multiple issues that followed (including the hugely cumbersome and SLOW way of accessing user's sessions and the false information that the console was reporting users logged in when they had already logged out) suddenly resulted in us decommissioning
the new 2012 installation in favour of a 2008 R2 installation.
Some may ask; Why not use "Third Party" apps to counteract the issue? Firstly; why spend MORE and why use a third party app that "is as" cumbersome to use just because of a freaking feature that Microsoft deemed a "security risk" - for G.D sake!
We have now been directed by management to convince customers that a move to 2012 is NOT recommended - good choice boss, I love you!
The question is; will Microsoft re-implement this feature and fix Server Management performance/accessibility in a future release before 2008 R2 is no longer available? Probably not - it looks like their stubbornness to forge ahead with their craze mind-set
of transforming their products into something that is now annoying millions (including their bloody push towards everything-cloud which NONE of our customers want anything to do with).
Microsoft! Get us back on to your side and take a step back, take a deep breath and listen to consumers!

  • More than 1 user access control of vi via web browser

    Hi all,
Currently I've a vi that need to share it with other PCs using web browser (eg: IE) I've tried using Web Publishing Tools and I noticed that only 1 pc at a time can grant access control of the vi. May I know is there any methods or other 3rd party software that could possibly able to give multiple PCs to control one vi simultaneously over the net using web browser? THANKS!!!...

    Hello,
I’m not so sure that using VNC or remote desktop to have
multiple users control LabVIEW is really in-line with our license policy.  I suppose if you built your program into an executable

However, this did not help the problem; I did everything
exactly the way it appears on these instructions however, one part
I had to do differently - where it states to place the
reset_fp10.cmd I also received an administrator error
    message:

Therefore, I saved this file to documents and then moved it

Everything else followed just the way the details explained they
would so I figured it should have worked.
My main thing is, this is my laptop and I'm the only user so
I should have Admin. privileges without any of this to begin with!
I check my user settings and it is set at "Administrator
Privileges." This is making no sense; I have had this computer
three years and I went through this one other time but I cannot

  • Domain Users access to Remote Desktop Apps fails

Can somebody bring a light to this issue?
Our domain users are getting NO apps from the collection, when  they should get at least the Full MS Office 2013 Pro apps suite that was published to the collection without any user restrictions...
Are they supposed to be member of the RDP Group or what else we missed during the settings?
Also, when trying to access from IE using the link https:// [FQDN] /rdweb/feed/webfeed.aspx (FQDN omitted for security reasons) they get a prompt to download the file "WebFeedlogin.aspx" as son as they successfully authenticate with their
    credentials...
FYI: All users member of Domain Admin group are working just fine...
Thank you in advance for your time and effort to solve this! ;)

    Hi Marcio,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
After going through your comment, I would say that to access RemoteApp by user they must be member of Remote Desktop User local group also. Apart you can go through below article for configuration related setting.

  • File structure and Multi-user access/control

    Hi All
Currently evaluating RH. Our plan is to use RH HTML with RoboServer and either SourceSafe or Team Foundation for source control. We will be producing the "printed" manual (PDF) and publishing online help (hopefully html via RH server) from the single source layout
Given that we will edit content in RH's XHTML editor, I'm not clear on when we should create new files or the granularity of multi-user access. We have 17 apps and I plan to use a master project and merging (because we need to link to related topics in other apps).
I'm really not sure what should constitute a file in RH. First off, is access controlled at the file level?
I want to have multiple authors editing the same manual at the same time, so do I need to break the manual into multiple small files (currently it's a single word doc)?
If I do break it into multiple files, what's the best approach: 1 file per topic (or is this a requirement)?
Finally, when I come to generate the PDF, will the files be combined. (i.e. can I have different page-breaks than I have in the RH project)?
    Any pointers greatly appreciated
    Regards
    Mark

    Hi,
First off, is access controlled at the file level?
Not sure what you mean by that. In source control, you can check in/out ever file independent. Sometimes dependent files will be automatically checked out, for instance images used in the css when you check out the style sheet.
I want to have multiple authors editing the same manual at the same time, so do I need to break the manual into multiple small files (currently it's a single word doc)?
That be the idea. Anyway, it's not a good idea to have an entire RoboHelp project in a single topic. You probably want to cut up your contents into the small chunck: topics.
If I do break it into multiple files, what's the best approach: 1 file per topic (or is this a requirement)?
In RoboHelp a topic is a HTML file. RoboHelp doesn't force you to split up content into one or more topics. If you are creating help for the web, you want the information to be organized in relatively small chunck so users can quickly scan through it.
Finally, when I come to generate the PDF, will the files be combined. (i.e. can I have different page-breaks than I have in the RH project)?
Not sure what you mean by page breaks. As RoboHelp creates HTML files, there are no page breaks such as in paper manuals. When you create a PDF, you combine the topics you need into a single document.
If a PDF is required for you, you may want to consider not using RoboHelp for your sources. A PDF created by RoboHelp is useful for internal use, but it never seems to get good enough to give to customers. Personally, when a PDF version of a manual is required, I create the manual in FrameMaker and link or import the book into RoboHelp. You can also link Word documents, so you may want to play around with that before deciding whether to use Word, RoboHelp or FrameMaker for your source.
    Greet,
    Willam
