Control with moniter applications open on.

I have been search around for a way to control which moniter an application will open on by default when using a dual screen setup but I haven't been able to find anything. Any suggestions?

You can try using devil's pie and setting the window geometry to be offset by the size of the first screen but that may not work.
(if
(is (application_name) "<Your Application Name From xwininfo or xprop>")
(begin
(geometry "+1280+0")

  • MBP 13" 2.26 High Idling Temperature with no applications open

    Hi,
Basically my MBP is idling at above 60 celcius with no applications open. It is used on a desk all the time and is currently charging. With minimal load open it often raises to 90C + which leads me to believe that the thermal paste needs to be replaced.
Just wanted to know if my assumptions were correct and whether I will be able to get it fixed with Apple Care if this is the case?
    Thanks for your help !

The 60 C at idle doesn't sound too unusual. The 90 C might be high depending what the "minimal load" means. For example, just using Safari, graphic/flash stuff can get the temperature up there.
Maybe it's just me, but my machine seems to average up to 10 C hotter since I upgraded to 10.6.3 from 10.6.2. I've watched Activity Monitor to see if somebody is working the CPU, but nothing seems significant...

60°C is way too high when idling.
Your cpu should stay 15°C lower than that (mine stays between 38-45°C, with Safari and Mail opened).

  • Working with multiple applications open

I was wondering if having multiple applications open has a negative effect on the speed of my RAM. Someone told me that it's actually a good thing to have more than one open at a time in OS X. Could that be true?
I'm interested because I only have 256 MB and I use Photoshop CS (a real memory hog) a lot for manipulating big images. I'm also online pretty much all the time.
    Thank you.
    Allan

Yeah, I think I see those beach balls in my sleep! Thanks Littleshoulders for the link. It's really helpful. I think I'll buy that ebook when I can. The other link on my previous post that led somewhere on this site helped a lot, too. The more I learn, the better.
So I guess that's a fallacy that it's good to have many apps open at a time, especially Photoshop and the huge images I work with. You know, I'm sure I read that in a book about using OS X. I don't see how there would be a benefit to have multiple apps open.
I think RAM will be my next purchase, followed, of course, by a newer, more powerful Mac.

  • HOW TO use OCX controls with Java application

    hi
Is it possible to use microsoft Ocx controls in java applications.

Anything is possible. You might want to ask if it's a good idea, but look at some of the people who have asked before. It looks like there are products out there to help.

  • After streaming show on mac mini, the audio of that show streams randomly with no applications open. Is there an audio cache

My husband and son streamed an episode of a show on the mac mini a few months ago. Now with no application launched, the entire audio stream plays on the computer. Where is it coming from and how do I delete it?  I have reset safari, with no results. There is nothing to 'force quit'.

    Hello,
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for action in Safe Mode...
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.

  • Version Control with JDeveloper application using ClearCase

My team is evaluating J Developer to see if
it matchs our requirement. We want
to know how we will be able to use Clearcase
as version control tool with our Java or JSP application developed using JDeveloper.
We understand that J Developer will help us
to create a zip file for deployment. Do we need to check in/out that zip file, zip/unzip the zip file, look for the file
that we want to change, and then make change to it?
If so how Clear Case knows which files in that zip file has been changed and what changes have been made?
Currently, we use Clearcase to check in/out
every single file, one at a time. We don't know how it will work with a zip file.
    Sincerely,
    Khanh

    Alex,
There are two parts to this answer.
You can hook up any version control system
    to JDeveloper using various JDeveloper
    extension mechanisms including adding items
to the tools menu or complete wizards.
On OTN, you can find an CustomAddins which provides a way to integrate to any version control system by editing some batch files to point to their "put" and "get" type tools. This is meant as a simple starting point.
Starting with JDeveloper 3.2, you will be able to take advantage of the intergrated source control feature that integrates Oracle Repository's source control features into JDeveloper.
    I hope this helps,
    -John

  • How do I prevent multiple applications opening on start up with Lion?

how do I prevent multiple applications opening on start up with Lion?

It's the Resume feature of Lion:
Managing Mac OS X Lion's application resume feature.
If you shutdown your computer you should get a dialog asking if you want applications to resume on the next startup. Simply uncheck the box to prevent that from occurring. Open General preferences and uncheck the option to Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. You can also install a third-party utility to control resume features on individual applications: RestoreMeNot or Application State Cleaner.

  • Open File With LabVIEW Application

I have a LabVIEW application that can be used to analyze several data files at once.  I am wondering what the best way to right click on a file from Windows Explorer and open with the application.  I know you can use the command line property node to find what file was opened if the application is not running when you open the file, but from what I found, this does not work if the application is already running.  I have a work around in place by using my main application as an ActiveX server, and another application which reads the file name from the command line when the user right clicks and opens the file, passes the path to the main application, and shuts down so the process can be repeated.  Is anyone familiar with a way to do this without have two executables?

This is not easy but you can find info there :

  • Everytime I open Safari on my MacBook Pro a pop-up window from my Finder menu, with the Applications highlighted on the left in the favorites column with the Resources folder highlighted comes up and locks my Safari page until I manually close the Resourc

Everytime I open Safari on my MacBook Pro a pop-up window from my Finder menu, with the Applications highlighted on the left in the favorites column with the Resources folder highlighted comes up and locks my Safari page until I manually close the Resources window then I have to refresh the internet search address line at the top of Safari. Can someone tell me how to stop this. It started after a software upgrade. It didn’t do that before. Thank you.

A few thoughts for diagnosis/testing purposes:
Have you recently run the disk utility and repaired HD and permissions? If not do so.
Boot into the Safe mode - hold down shift key on boot - and see if the problems are still there. Some functions won't work but see if anything odd happens.
Check your startup items. Get rid of them temporarily.
Create a new user account and see if the problems occur with the new account.
Lastly, be sure your backup is up-to-date.

  • Acrobat 7.1 IE plugin cannot open .pdf Files with mt/application/octet-stream

    Hi Folks,
we have some problems to open pdf - files via Hyperlink in an IE Explorer. this files get from the web-server the MIME-Type "octet-stream".
the only option is to save and then open the pdf files. But we want to open the pdf files directly IN the IE. the option to open it not in IE is not possible because then another application will not work.
Is it generally possible to open an pdf File with an octet-stream MIME-Type with the IE-Pluin, and if Yes is ther any possible configuration we could try.
    Thanks for your help
    regards
    Felix

    Hi Bill,
we already tried to change that checkbox that solves the problem but we get new problems with other applications, so this way is also no option for us.
also we tried to repair / reinstall acrobat, but it has no effect.
I suppose that maybe adobe just closed that door to open pdf documents with the octet-stream MIME-Type. Because it could an way to insert executable files in the system.
maybe a higher version than 7.1 can do this?
Thanks for your help, here in Germany it is already 2 pm so not far from quitting-time ;)

  • Open With default Application in Bridge

When I double click a "RW2" file in Bridge my Photomatix application opens the file. Nowhere in the file associations do I see Photomatix or the "RW2" file format for that matter. I reset to default associations - still no joy. The only app showing in the "Open With" pull down in Bridge is "Photomatix (default)". How so I change this default to PS4?

To my knowledge RW2 is the Raw format for Panasonic ?
The file type association in Bridge prefs should be found under Panasonic.
In your situation it might show Photomatix. (mind you that Photomatix claims
to rather not convert Raw files in their own app because they have no good
converter for that and they are better in working with tiff). See if you
have the option to change this to CS4.
If not you will have to look in the supported Raw formats for your ACR
converter to see if your camera model is supported in the list for the ACR
    plug in for CS4:
Try this link (otherwise find it with a search on the Adobe.com site):
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html
Mind that this is already the ACR 6 version that will only work with CS5.
Scroll down for the latest version for CS4 which should be ACR 5.7
Check your version in PSCS4: go to the menu Photoshop / about plug ins /
Camera Raw, This should show only one plug in with version 5.7
Also try to convert the files to DNG using Adobe's free DNG converter. DNG
files have much benefit and work also with older ACR and PS versions:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/
Problem is BTW longstanding, every vendor uses his own Camera Raw format and
to makes things worse, they also make a slightly different format for almost
every new type of camera they put on the market.
Adobe kindly delivers about 3 to 4 times a year a free new update for ACR
and DNG with support for most of those cameras.
It is best to first check compatibility with new cameras and third party
software. If you want to work with Raw files you better wait until support
is there or you have to use the vendor software (not always that nice to
    work with)
The only app showing in the "Open With" pull down in Bridge is "Photomatix
(default)". How so I change this default to PS4?
