Controlling format in power pivot

Hi we run 2012 entwrprise.  Can the format of a cell be controlled by what another cell has?  eg if other cell has an A, this one shows as currency.  But if it contains a B, this one shows as just a number with 1000'ws sepaeator?  If
yes, is this done in the pp window or in the pivot table?

Hi DB042189,
The only way I can think of achieving this within the Power Pivot model is by converting the numbers into text based on the conditional logic. I have provided a quick illustration of this approach below...
Here is the very simple test data:
Column1
Column2
A
1000
B
1000
A
500
B
700
Here are the defined measures:
SumOfColumn2:=CALCULATE(SUM(Data[Column2]))
And...
FormattedSumOfColumn2:=
IF(
HASONEVALUE(Data[Column1]),
SWITCH(
VALUES(Data[Column1]),
"A", FORMAT([SumOfColumn2], "£#,#"),
"B", FORMAT([SumOfColumn2], "#,#"),
FORMAT([SumOfColumn2], "General Number")
FORMAT([SumOfColumn2], "General Number")
Here is the outcome:
The idea here is that for charts you would use the measure that returns the actual numbers (i.e. SumOfColumn2 in the example), and for Pivot Tables you would use the measure that returns the formatted text (i.e. FormattedSumOfColumn2).
You can read about the more 'interesting' functions out of the ones used in this solution:
HASONEVALUE:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg492190.aspx
VALUES: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee634547.aspx
SWITCH: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg492166.aspx
FORMAT: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee634924.aspx
Hope this helps,
Michael

  • How to show original table in table format from Power Pivot?

    Hi
I am using Excel 2013 Power Pivot to import data from LOB SQL database. I have Sales table as follow.
The table is loaded into Power Pivot data model to produce various reports and charts. One of the report is to show the table as it is with selected columns. The business also want using Slicers to view a sub set of the rows in the table.
Is there anyway in Excel to show the tables with selected columns from the Power Pivot date model table without Power View?
    Regards
    Joe Lee
    jl

the simplest thing would be to use a pivot table and set its layout to Tabular Form
    1) select your Pivot Table
    2) go to Design --> Report Layout --> Show in Tabular Form
    4) set Design --> Report Layout --> Repeat All Item Labels to true
    3) add the necessary fields to the Rows-section of your pivot table
    4) remove all subtotals
    5) connect the existing slicers to your Pivot Table

  • Power Pivot Data Model with Linked Table

Can anyone provide me with some suggestions as to how to accomplish the following in Power Pivot?
I have the following Pivot Table fields. I'm trying to create a data model to allow me to filter all of the projects by the selected Fiscal Year. The Fiscal Year table is a dimension I created to group the data by.
I'm considering separating Projects into multiple tables such that 1 table is for Year1 information, another table is for Year2 information (includes Year2FiscalYear, Year2BudgetCAP, etc.).
I think what I need to do is create a measure to allow me to filter the records by fiscal year. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Roland

    Hi Greg,
The data is coming from Project Online (OData feed) and SharePoint lists (all within Project Online). I'm creating an Excel Report.
The reason I can't use Power Query is because refreshing a report that is built using Power Query is not supported via browser. Power BI is needed to do this. On the other hand if I build an excel report using Power Pivot only, the browser refresh functionality
    works.
The Year1FiscalYear, Year2FiscalYear, etc. are all enterprise custom fields in Project Online. Therefore I have some control in being able to change the format of the data. I'm looking into what are some options on my side to configure Project Online or
SharePoint lists to make building the model simpler...
    Thanks,
    Roland

  • Display Power Pivot Gallery on a page?

Using SharePoint 2013, I am trying to put the Gallery view of a power pivot gallery on a web page. I would like to do this so that I can have a couple of other web parts displayed on the same web
page. Thinking this would be pretty straight forward, I tried the following:
Use the list view web part to display the gallery view of the library. This didn't work, it just displays the list as if it were a standard document library. No Siverlight control was
    rendered.
Copy the Gallery.aspx file from the library. Give a new name. My initial try of this looked hopeful but even though the SiverLight control rendered, no content was displayed.
Obviously, this isn't something that is supported out of the box. I'm wondering if anyone has done this and wouldn't mind sharing the steps.

    Hi Matt,
For this issue, I'm trying to involve someone familiar with this topic to further look at it.

  • DMV to list table relationships in a Power Pivot model ?

I have used different queries based on DMVs which let you extract data from a Power Pivot model in order to create a design documentation: list of tables, columns, calculated columns formulas, measures ...etc.
Yet, I have not found the way to extract a list of all tables relationships in the model. Sure enough, I can copy/paste it from the PowerPivot window.
But would someone have a query that extracts table relationships ?
    Regards,
    Bertrand

I do not believe that there is any $system based DMV which returns relationship information.
You can get this information from an SSAS Tabular instance using a DISCOVER_CSDL_METADATA call, but that returns an XML document with the all the metadata and I don't know of any easy way to call that against a PowerPivot model (unless it's deployed to sharepoint)
The following is an example query that I ran against a tabular SSAS instance.
    <Discover xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:xml-analysis">
    <RequestType>DISCOVER_CSDL_METADATA</RequestType>

  • How to seperate Power Pivot Data Model and Power Pivot Report from Single Workbook.

    HI  Team,
Initially, We have created Power Pivot report in workbook, containing Source Data Model as well.
Now, we want to convert workbook having model as Shared Data Model, and all report needs to be part of single workbook.
I want to implement one of the below solution, but know how to do it.
    1. Separate and Export all Power Pivot report sheet into single Excel Workbook such that it will have all report sheets.
    2. Use Same Model as it is and delete reports from existing one after export to new excel workbook.
    OR
Is there is any other way to avoid re-creation of reports again? I want to use same report but instead of Embedded Excel data source, I want to use shared data Source in excel.

One option is to use one workbook as the data source(model) and other workbooks for the reports.  This works in the stand alone Excel and SharePoint versions of Power BI, but not yet in O365 Power BI version.
There is no export functionality. You would have to copy the workbook and update data source references. I have never tried it, but in theory it should work :).
Brad Syputa, Microsoft Reporting Services This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties.
    Hi Michael,
Yes your answer is partially correct..thanks for reply, I am working on Power Pivot reports on SharePoint.
    However, below issues observed.
    1. There is No Export Functionality ( as you told)
    2. We can not copy report sheet from workbook1 (which has Data Model) to Workbook2 ( only for report) using Control + C (copy) and Control + V (paste) option.
Or Move Power Pivot Table ..
So, solution can be (as you said, unfortunately I tried it already but dint worked)
    1. Copied workbook with New Name - Workbook2.
    2. Go to Data -> I tried to change connection setting -> to use shared Data Model -> I could create new Pivot table using shared Data Model
But, Still I could use earlier designed Power Pivot tables as it is, to point to shared data model.
I don't want to re-design entire report. As my project workbook has plenty reports.... :)

  • How to Empty all rows within a Power Pivot Model

    Hi,
I would like to know how to empty all rows within a Power Pivot model. I am in the process of creating quite a complex Power Pivot model. This means I need to create some sort of primitive version control process, e.g. stored multiple backups of the Power
    Pivot model without the data.
    Kind Regards,
    Kieran.

For Power Pivot it means that you can get rid of all your data, but Keep Relations, measures, ..everything.
Just import your tables once in order to get the connections right and move on.

    Hello,
I have Office 2010,32 bit, Standard Version and I need to install Power Pivot for Excel 2010. I have tried to install de 32 bit version  (SQL Server 2008), but it says that I need to install Office Shared Features and Excel 2010, which are already installed.
I have tried with other versions of Power Pivot, but I can't neither. I have also installed Visual Studio Tools for Office Runtime (also 32 bit), but I still can't install Powe Pivot, for SQL Server 2012 version.
Even more, I've been searching the solution in this forum, with persons that have the same problem as me, and when I try to implement the solution, it doesn't result.

  • How to make a report to display next 18 months of data with when user select a particular month from the filter in power pivot tabular model.

    Hi,
i have a  dimension table  with month_key having values (201201,201202,201203.......202011,202012) and month name ( Jan 12, feb 12,......NOV 20, Dec 20)  and a fact  table with columns (month_key ,measure_types, Amount)
My requirement is to create a power pivot report  in which when a user select a month from the filter, the report should display the (selected month+18 ) month's data against each type . when JAN 12 is selected ,the jan 2012 +18 = june 2013
, month name should be populated with months till june 2013 only .
i tried creating calculated column"END DATE " in the fact table with  dax expression to calculate the 18th monh from the current month  as below
    month_key END DATE
    201201       201306
    201202       201307
and thought of filtering the table with month key <= ENDDATE but it is not working as expected. could you please guide me on this ? Is there any time intelligence function that serve the purpose . Iam using  excel 2010
..hence could not do any calculation on the report side also. please suggest .
    Thanks in advance

Do you need to show the measure calculated for those 18 months as a total on 1 row, or do you need to select a single month and then display on row filters 18 distinct rows?
The first is trivial as driezl has suggested.
The second will require a second calendar table.
I created this example workbook for a coworker who had a similar problem. You will have to use the disconnected table as your filter and pull your related table onto the rows.
Finally, the easiest way to deal with the sort of date arithmetic you need to do is to restructure your date table to have a series of "Sequential" fields. These fields should be the number of units of time since the beginning of your calendar.
    For example, consider a calendar starting on January 1, 2010. For January - December 2010, [MonthSequential] = 1, 2, ..., 12. For January - December 2011, [MonthSequential] = 13, 14, ..., 24, and so on, incrementing by 1 for each sequential month in time.
Assuming you have this set up in your date tables (one related to your model - DimDate - and one disconnected - DisconDimDate) your measure would look like this:
    18 Month Measure:=
    CALCULATE( [Measure]
    , FILTER( DimDate
    , DimDate[MonthSequential] >= MAX( DisconDimDate[MonthSequential] )
    && DimDate[MonthSequential] <= MAX( DisconDimDate[MonthSequential] ) + 18
Please review this example along with the workbook I have linked above.

  • Power Pivot enable Excel workbook protection with password?

    Hi All
We have a power pivot deployment without SharePoint in excel 2013 professional plus. All woks fine until we use a password to protect excel workbook so unauthorised users cannot open it. After enabling password protection we cannot access the power pivot
data model under power pivot excel tab. It tries to upgrade the power pivot model(which is not logical because it didn't do it before and was working fine). thereafter upgrade fails.
Has anyone successfully password protected a power pivot excel 2013 workbook? Is there a workaround to enabling security without SharePoint/office 365 etc?
    Thanks
    Sonny

    Hi Sonny,
PowerPivot does not support row security or dynamic security. Security for a workbook is just a binary choice – either a user can read a workbook or she can’t.
In this case, I would suggest you consider designing Tabular model which can be secured using row security and dynamic security is also supported. For more information, please see:

  • Data loaded to Power Pivot via Power Query is not yet supported in SSAS Tabular Cube

Hello, I'm trying to create a SSAS Tabular cube from a data loaded to Power Pivot via Power Query (SAP BOBJ connector) but looks like is not yet supported.
Any one tried this before? any workaround that make sense?
The final goal is pull data from SAP BW, BO Universe (using PowerQuery) and be able to create a SSAS Tabular cube.
    Thanks in advance
    Sebastian

    Sebastian,
Depending on the size of the data from Analysis Services, one work around could be to import the data into into Excel and then make an Excel table and then use the Excel table as a data source.

  • Dynamically selecting values for filter in power pivot

    Hi,
I am creating a power pivot report. I want the values of its filters to be set dynamically based on certain critreria. For Example, if some one changes the Iteration Path then the range of dates should change automatically to Iteration start date -
    Itearation End Date.
Is there any way to set filter values based on some calculation.
Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.
