Controlling video ramping and making it smooth

Hi. I wondered if anyone could point me in the direction of a good tutorial on video ramping, or explain how to do it well in laymans terms?
I have tried using the stopwatch option on the slip slide tool, but am unclear how to really control it the way that I want. Say I want variable points of slowing down and speeding up within the clip. How do I control this without ending up with very slow motion at one end and extremely quick motion at the other. In experimenting with the stopwatch, I always end up with each succesive point building upon the previous, where I would rather reset at each succesive clip. Perhaps i am misunderstanding the values...?
What I want to do is slow a real time sequence of someon sitting in a chair down to about half speed, and then speed it up again as they stand and walk away ending up at about 500% speed which should continue into the next clip and then slow down again smoothly to half speed as they pick something up from a table.
Please help.
Thanks

  • Ipod video pausing and making strange sounds

I have a 30Gb Ipod classic. When I get to a certain point in a video, the video will stop playing and start immiting a sharp, high-pitched sound, almost like brakes make when they're grinding. If i skip ast that point, I have no problems.
Does anyone know what I should do?

    Hi,
This has been a HUGE issue as of late with people and such as myself. The only thing that worked for me so far is to bring it to an apple store to the mac genius and they have to restart and reinstall the fireware in your ipod. So i strong reccomend you doing this so you dont get so frustrated like i did.

  • How do I control furnace temps (ramp and soak)? What hardware do I need?

    Please help me~~~~
I use Labview version 8.2 and Compact Field Point.  I currently have a small Lindberg/Blue furnace (120V, 6.8A, 8KW) that has a mounted Lindberg/Blue UP150 programmable controller.  The temperature control is not currently connected to my PC (and that's a pain).
I would like to replace the present furnace controller with labview control through Compact Field Point.  I need to create a ramp and soak program in labview.  My
    program must be able to:
Soak at 300C for 30 min
    ramp to 650C
soak at 650C for 15 min
    ramp to 700C
soak at 700C for 10 min
    cool to 300C
repeat the above steps as many times as desired.
I am familar with labview but have never controlled any furnace temps.  I have figured out that I will need the PID control toolkit.  But I'm totally stumped about the hardware I will need.  I have searched everywhere but can't find an explanation.  I have Compact Field Point and the furnace.  What hardware goes inbetween?  Just what hardware does the PID toolkit (PID VI's) send a signal to?  It seems to me the PID would read a thermocouple and then send a signal to some sort of current regulator that sends a varying current to the furnace.  Am I way off?  How do I set this up.  Can anyone recommend a good book or web site that explains how to set up furnace control using labview?
I really appreciate your help.  I'm at the end of my road without it.  Thanks alot.

If you can, use a solid state relay as this will be the most reliable and noise free solution to switching. Switching 8kW loads with a relay can lead to arcing of the contacts after a while (and other issues), this is bad news for computers. For an 8kW device you will need to mount the device on some form of heatsink / dissapation surface. Solid state relays normally use an opto-isolated coupling which can usually be powered in the range 3 to 24v. This is connected to the control output of your selected controller.
For control of this sort I personally I prefer a dedicated controller, I use a PC for data logging, program management and monitoring. This is for reliability more than anything else, an NI controller won't come with integrated display and controls to set the device and the foot print in the panel is considerably larger. They also take an age to boot in comparison. You should also consider that you could get an electrical engineer to fit a standard controller with suitable solid state relay etc. and that will help you meet any health and safety requirements easily and quickly! Don't forget than any modifications will need to meet local regulatory requirements such as CE and thus circuit diagrams must normally be produced etc.
If I have the choice of selecting a controller, I like the Eurotherm range of temperature controllers, they are available with varying options just like the controller mentioned in the thread. There are drivers available in this forum and the NI web site for the devices.
    http://www.eurotherm.com/
There is also OPC support and the diagnostic software available from Eurotherm is good.
But if a device has a specific manufacturers controller on it I might select one from the same family. Often I look around the plant / factory and see what models are in use. Using a model / type that already in use makes it easy for support in the factory and reduces support calls!
    Hope these thoughts help out.

  • Xbox Live Video Marketplace and WRT54GS Parental Controls.

There is a funky error when using a WRT54GS with Parental Controls enabled and trying to download movies on Xbox live. This error code (8007000b) only appears when Parental Controls are on, and it only affects the Video Marketplace portion of Xbox live.
It might be Microsoft's fault, but just FYI..
    -Chris

The parental controls prevent you from browsing the video marketplace completely.
I don't think that should be how it operates though. Usually the parental controls just let Xbox Live through.
Even so, I wouldn't expect the parental controls to affect the Xbox at all, as the Xbox has its own parental control system in-place.

  • Controlling video and timelines from main stage. Can it be done?

    The set up:
I have 3 Symbols on the main Stage.
Each Symbol has a video and 4 text sections, with the text appearing below the video.
When the video reaches a certain point, the text changes (for instance, when the video is talking about Widget 1, Text 1 appears, then when it reaches the part about Widget 2, Text 2 appears, etc). Getting and keeping everything synchronized is very important.
    The goal:
Having a button that will pause both the video AND the text when clicked so they stay in sync.
    The fly in the ointment:
The goal is pretty easy to accomplish by simply having a button in the Symbol that will stop the text and pause the video. The problem is that since there are 3 Symbols on the stage, when the button is clicked, it needs to stop any other videos that are currently playing. For instance, someone is viewing Video 1, but they decide that they'd rather watch Video 3, so they click on the button for Video 3, but Video 1 (and its Timeline with the text) is still playing after they hit that button. How do I make it so that when they click on Button 3, Video 1 (and its timeline) stops playing?
    The other fly:
Right now, there are only 3 of these video players on the Stage, but more may be added later. The code I use must be flexible enough to adapt, so I don't have to add additional lines of code to every button every time a new video is added.
    Thanks

    Phil,
    1. Could an Xserve be loaded with a standard version of OSX and operated as if it were a desktop system?
The general consensus is "yes" but you will lose some of the cool features like hardware monitoring, heat warnings, etc. which might or might not effect your ability to keep an eye on it in odd situations - like hot clubs or cramped DJ quarters.
    2. Does the fact that I'm considering the "cool factor" as it relates to a rack-mounted server make me a complete geek?
THAT doesn't make you a geek. But it is an outward expression of your inner geek.
    3. Is it odd that I'm okay with that?
Until you admit you have a problem you really can't seek help.
Seriously though... I don't think this is a great plan despite whatever respect I have for your geek chic.
    1) You're paying for features and software you'll be throwing away.
    2) Xserves are designed to run in server rooms and air-conditioned offices not in the field.
    3) They are loud. No, really they are... perhaps not the best choice for a DJ.
    4) If an iBook G4 is working for you currently then you don't need the processing power or through-put you're paying for with the Xserve.
I would suggest getting two low end Intel towers (or you might be able to get away with 1 tower and a mini or something cheap) and then mounting them in a glass lined rolling rack or something like an Xrack. If you're concerned they are "cool or geeky" enough then spend some of the thousands of dollars you'll save on some case mod neon, LED spotlights or those lighted USB cables or the like to "tech them up".
Congrats on embracing your inner geek,

  • Making best use of space for quality by balancing video bitrate and audio settings?

I have a couple of questions regarding exporting from premiere to encore/encoding in encore. I am trying to create a single-layer dvd where I maximize overall quality by using as much of the disk space as possible.  The video is 97 minutes, SD 720x480, 29.97fps, and consists of mostly interviews, as well as b-roll from hd cameras and stills, only a few title card graphics.
    1. I can use dynamic link to send the sequence which appears to maximize the available space, however I have heard that using DL is generally frowned upon and I myself cannot tell what settings it is using (i.e. vbr, 2-pass, etc.). Is my interpretation that DL is not the ideal way to go incorrect? If DL is just as good as a separate output, is there a way to find out what settings it is using?
    2. I have used a bitrate calculator and tried a Min: 3.5 Target: 5.5 Max: 8 output with PCM audio and I wound up having a little over 400mb of unused space. When someone recommended a Min: 5.5 Target: 7 Max 8.5 output the file size was too large with a single-layer DVD. I read that it is recommended that you use a Dolby audio output instead of PCM if the video is over an hour. My question is is there a best practice for balancing audio and video bitrates and data requirements? I understand that obviously using more data PCM is "better" but is it generally better to go the dolby route and have more free space to increase your video bitrate? Is this the type of audio difference that requires a high-end system to discern? Is the loss in audio data worth it for the benefit of greater video bitrate?
I know its a lot, just trying to maximize the space to get the best overall output possible. Thanks for any help/advice you can provide.
    -Nick

As most of my videos are closer to 2 hours usually, I have always used Dolby Digital, since PCM takes up so much space and I'd rather use that space to increase the video quality.
Note that by default, if you bring a .wav file (PCM) into Encore, it automatically transcodes that to Dolby, unless you had specifically changed the default transcode settings in Encore.
A decent rule of thumb for encoding is 560/minutes = bitrate, so 560/97 = 5.77 and I usually just round down a bit to allow for safety margin and menu overhead. This assumes using Dolby at 192k, so I would use 5.6 average bitrate.

  • Control video (Impress  vs PowerPoint)

I installed SO8 on winXP box and converted a PowerPoint file to OPD file. Everything worked great except video. This PowerPoint file comes with video (avi files) and during the presentation, to play it all I have to do is to click over the video and the video is played. So if I need to play it again, I click again and thats it. With Impress though I have to reinsert the video since the original video is replaced by black box with asking mark, but thats not a problem, but I dont see the way to control the video like with PowerPoint (double click and its executed). During the presentation the video is played at the beginning when the slide is loaded and once the video is finished theres no way to play it again. The only way I founded is to reload the same slide.
Is there any way to control the video during the presentation??
    Thank you

A possible workaround is to insert the video clip as an OLE object.
Do not use "insert-video and sound" but instead use "insert-Object-OLE object".
A new window appears: select the "Create a new object" button, then choose "Other object", then click the OK button.
A second window appears: select the "Create from a file" button, choose the video clip file on your disk, then OK.
You will have a small box with the name of the file on the slide. Right click on the box, select "interaction", then "Execute the action of the object", then "Activate the content", finally OK.
When in slide show, the cursor will change as a hand when it moves over the box. Click on the box : the Windows Media Player (or the viewer linked with the file extension) will come over the slide and you can replay the clip as you want. If you close the Media Player, it comes back when you click on the box again. Of course, the video clip cannot be played in the slide itself with this method.
I am also interested in your experience with Impress on Win XP. See my two previous posts:
    1. Did you find the same problem as me when inserting the clip through "insert - video and sound"? (Video flashes and remains black when the first slide has no video clip).
    2. And also did you find that text smoothing or anti-aliasing was missing in slide show if no effect or animation is attached to the text object?

  • After saving project upon reopening one of my video files and it's corresponding audio is red

After saving project upon reopening one of my video files and it's corresponding audio is red (both are offline).  Attempts at relink result in a warning that the audio will be deleted (which is does when tested).
This project is based on a multicam sequence (2 video files) and using Pro CC (latest Cloud build).
Anyone come across this and/or have a solution?  Thanks in advance.

Appreciate your assistance and guidance Mark.  Yes, I am a newbie on this forum - and fairly new to premiere pro though have used elements since version 4.  I'll answer your leads below.
First off, some bookkeeping & jargon matters:
"you reported the file extension (.mts) but not the codec of the video therein. AVCHD?"
.mts files are Sony AVCHD files.  filmed with Sony NXCAM NXU5 camera.
"re: the version you're on, rather than simply stating "the latest," it helps to report the exact version numbers as shown in the About box. That not only avoids any confusion today but also aids customers who come upon a thread months from now."
    Version is 7.2.0
"you refer to "rendering" to a new format. I know that "render" is the right term in some NLEcosystems, but with Premiere we distinguish between rendering and exporting/encoding. Rendering is reserved for creating preview files for smoother playback within PPRO, whereas exporting/encoding covers writing a sequence out to an output clip."
My bad - I exported/encoded the sequence to a new output clip.
Now back to our regularly scheduled troubleshooting. Three questions:
did you start this project in CC7.1 and then update to 7.2/7.2.1 along the way?
    I started this in 7.2.0
are either of the clips in the multicam sequence spanned?
I don't know what "spanned" refers to
I gather that you created the multicam sequence via the new workflow in the Project panel: select the clips, right-click>CreateMulticamSourceSequence. Am I right?
    Correct
If so, please create a new sequence, set the timeline to insert sequences as individual clips (via the left-most button under the timecode control), add the multicam sequence to the new sequence, and post a screenshot of the timeline.
Now all of a sudden I am able to open my project file(s) as before with no problems.... very curious.
I did this and then could not find my multicam sequence.... so no screen shot... BUT what happened?
thank you for your guidance with this.

I built a new desktop for editing video during the summer.  In the past week or two I've encountered some serious issues.
    Ex. A:  http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8476/8374160517_0bb791f218_c.jpg
While  editing in Premiere or AE CS6 I've been getting these weird lines appear randomly.  If I close the program and re-open it, it'll disappear, and sometimes reappear at another point in the timeline. Really strange.  I also have active backgrounds enabled and green or purple patches of pixels will sometimes appear.  If I tell windows to go to the next background, the pixels usually go back to normal.
    BIOS blue screen shutdown
I  could be watching vimeo or youtube or doing video editing and suddenly  get a shut down error.  It also happened while playing the CRYSIS demo,  although I had a perfectly smooth experience until that happened.
    Here are my specs:

    NVIDIA 560 Ti 1GB
    500w PSU corsair
    WD 1TB caviar black HD
    Asus xonar audio card
    128 GB sandisk SSD
Do  you guys think this is a graphics card or PSU issue?  My computer is next to a metal cabinet, but has plenty of room for air ventilation. The graphics card and CPU temps have generally been between 30-40 degrees  Celsius, and always under 50 C (even when rendering), so I doubt overheating is an issue.   Checked with HWMonitor.

Briefly - 5th gen video colour screen 80gb ipod got soaked, died. Tried reviving today (over a year later) and found I could get to disk mode (after whacking it one on it's side - who knew?). Okay, tried restoring it through itunes who then gave me 1429 error message.  I tried the various options for that error message until I got to  restart your computer...now, although I can get the ipod into disk mode it is not being recognised by itunes.  It appears in system information but nothing of any use is happening now, excepting it is 'alive' in disk mode and making a less clicky 'scratchy' sound and showing the battery being charged.  Any advice? One reason is that your internet connection is not fast enough to keep up with the video.  You may find that when it gets to the end of the video and has fully downloaded, it will replay without stopping.
