Hi,
I'm trying to convert jpeg file with ICC_PROFILE adobe1998rgb in SRGB but the result is darker...
I try to convert with ColorConvertOp and the image is less darker but always darker than the orignal...
Anyone can help?
And Thx you!

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 Image Processor not converting files to sRGB Profile

I have been experiencing a problem with Photoshop CS3 Image Processor no longer converting profiles to sRGB.   It converts all of the files from Camera Raw to JPEG, but not sRGB as well.  I used to be able to batch convert an entire folder of RAW images to JPEG, sRGB through the Image Processor.
My Photoshop CS3 Working Space is Adobe RGB (1998).  I need to convert an entire folder of images selected in Bridge to sRGB working space in order to publish a photo album from one of the on-line publishing companies.  I can open each individual Camera Raw file in Photoshop and convert each to JPEG, sRGB, but this takes a tremendous amount of time.
The following procedure has worked for me in the past, but for some reason no longer works:
I select the images in the desired Bridge CS3 folder.  Upper tool bar, "Tools" > "Photoshop" > "Image Processor".  In Image Processor:
Section 1 - ""Process files from Bridge only (11)"  Whether or not I place a checkmark by "Open first image to apply settings", it makes no difference in the outcome.
Section 2:  "Save in same location"
Section 3 - "Checkmark by "Save as JPEG, quality 12".  Also a checkmark by "Convert Profile to sRGB"
Section 4 - Checkmark by "Include ICC Profile"
I replaced my iMac one month ago and reinstalled Photoshop CS3, but this Image Processor problem had been occurring even with my old computer.
Not sure if you need this information:
I'm currently on Mac OS X Version 10.6.4
Processor:  2.93 Ghz Intel Core i7
    Memory:  8 GB 1333 Mhz DDR3
I don't know if it's related,  Photoshop CS3 on my old computer was running in Rosetta.  I don't know if it's running in Rosetta now, the name does not appear when Photoshop boots up.  How do I get it to run in Rosetta again?

Heh heh heh.  It's always true that we find the answer just after making public our problems, which in turn we did after trying to find the problems ourselves for hours.
Thanks for following up with the answer.

  • Converting RGB images (sRGB or Adobe RGB) to 709 color space.

I'm trying to determine the correct way to convert RGB images (sRGB or Adobe RGB) to 709 color space.  I can't just use the "covert to profile" function to do this because it does not produce results that fall within the 16 to 235 range that 709 dictates.  I've read that you can simply use the "Levels" adjustment and change the output levels to 16 to 235.  While this would clearly compress the luminance to the correct range, I'm not entirely clear if the end result would be a proper conversion (i.e. if color and gamma, for example, would be technically correct.)
I noticed that converting the profile to "HDTV (Rec. 709)" does alter the image, so I'm wondering what the result would be if I did both this AND used the levels control to compress the output range to 16 to 235.
Thanks for any feedback on this.

    (1)
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rec._709
    (2)
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rec._601
The transfer functions for Rec.709 (1) refer to the range [0..1] or for 8 bits per pixel [0...255].
It seems that the clipping, black=16 and white=235 has to happen after the application of the
transfer function. If this should be true, then we don't have a level compression but a level
clipping at both ends, as already for Rec.601 (2), like here:
The ICC-Profile HDTV(Rec.709) in Photoshop contains the primaries and the white point
(both like that in sRGB) and the transfer functions for [0..1], coded by a LUT with high resolution,
as found by Profile Inspector. There is no clipping.
By the way, that`s the internal profile name, I don't know the file name of the profile.
Softproofing, source in sRGB, target HDTV(Rec.709), without clipping:
With numbers not preserved: no change of the appearance, as expected.
With numbers preserved: shows the effect of different effective gammas.
Your questions are very clear and I'm not sure whether my comments help. The information
in the internet is not convincing.

  • Converting files to SRGB

I am trying to convert some pictures into an sRGB color profile so that the printers will print them.  I am using Photoshop CS6 extended.   I used the File>Script>Image Processor to do the converting.  The checkbox for convert profile to sRGB was selected.  The files were output to a seperate directory.  When I open the new files with Photoshop to see what color profile they are, it comes in as unassigned rgb.  How do I actually get photoshop to embed the sRGB profile or is the unassigned the sRGB?  I've changed my working profile to sRGB.
The 2nd question that I have is:  In the books, articles, and websites most pro photographers suggest not using sRGB but changing to adobe RGB or pro photo RGB.  Where do you print these at?  The web sites that I see for printing request the documents in sRGB.  What printing sites / companies / printers do you use with the pro or adobe RGB?
    Thank you,
    Ed

    That should fix it.
Also, if you are going to start using Pro Photo or Adobe RGB as editing spaces, you may want to read up a bit on doing that. Since they are wider gamut than what you are used to, it might be best to work on a high bit file. Martin Evening has a good books for photographers using Photoshop.

  • Convert to web/sRGB issues

    Hi Guys,
I am having a hard time understanding what is happening in Photoshop when saving files for the web.
My print ready images are in the Adobe RGB colour space. If I convert these to sRGB (edit - convert to profile) and then upload them, I get what appears to be fairly consistent colour across browsers (both colour managed and unmanaged).
However, if I use the save for web function and enable 'convert to sRGB' then there seems to be a large saturation increase in the preview compared to the original file. This isn't a problem as long I choose to embed the colour profile, but If I un-tick this and simply have it set to 'convert to sRGB' without any other options selected (i.e. embed colour profile un-ticked) then my final file ends up being 'untagged' and has the same over saturated colours as the preview. So to me this would suggest that I'm not actually converting to the sRGB colour space, but simply some weird photoshop guestimate.
So my question is, what exactly is happening here? And is there any reason why I should use the 'save as for web' feature when I can simply convert to sRGB and save as a jpeg manually thus what appears to be producing the most accurate colour across browsers!?
Thanks for your help in advance!

    Hi,
If you check on "convert to sRGB" in save for web, but unclick "Embed Profile" the document's color numbers will be converted to sRGB and the document will be stripped of any embedded profile.  It's possible that colors can appear different in both managed and non managed applications for two possible reasons:
    1. For non managed applications, the colors in this untagged document will be directly interpreted through the monitor profile since the non managed application doesn't know that it should interpret the color numbers as though they're coming from sRGB.
    2. For managed applications, if the working space is set to something other than sRGB, it will interpret the color numbers in the untagged document as though they were coming from the working space instead of sRGB.
    Hope this helps.

  • RGB color space in LR3 - does it convert back to sRGB on export?

First off, I've only had LR3 for two days so I am a complete novice. I've been reading my book and just came across the part about RGB color space. I shoot with and use sRGB, which apparently LR will recognize. However, it states that the develop module uses Lightroom RGB. My question is, when I export my edited photos to PSE8 (or to a folder on my desktop to save and email for my daughter's business), does it export them back as sRGB? I know there is a lot of controversy over the whole RGB thing, but after my research on the matter, I have decided that sRGB is the best for my particular situation. I'm just making sure I don't have to check something or convert them back if they don't automatically change out of LightroomRGB.

    ColeeLou2,
Some additional thoughts to what has been said already:
I shoot with and use sRGB, which apparently LR will recognize.
The color space you chose on your camera (sRGB, AdobeRGB) only affects the JPEG rendering in your camera. It does not affect the RAW file, as a RAW file is not in any color space. Upon import of a RAW into LR, it will be rendered in a ProPhoto RGB color space with an sRGB tone curve (Jao will correct me if I'm wrong ) for use within LR.
My question is, when I export my edited photos to PSE8 (or to a folder on my desktop to save and email for my daughter's business),
I would suggest using an sRGB color space upon export for external uses (like emailing to your daughter), but use ProPhotoRGB when going into PSE in external edit. This way you will have all the color information possible available in PSE, and PSE will recognize the ProPhotoRGB color space.

  • Converting Gray to sRGB

How does Photoshop CS3 convert from Gray to sRGB in Save for the Web? Every time I use Save for the Web with a Gray scale image, it makes it too dark. While trying to reproduce the results, I found that a Dot Gain of 30% matched its conversion the closest. Does Save for the Web assume a Dot Gain of 30% for the conversion? This would definitely be a very poor assumption if so. Currently, I have a Dot Gain of 15% in the Color Settings dialog box. As far as I can tell, there's no setting in Photoshop, or Save for the Web for that matter, to set these types of conversions; hence, the reason my Gray scale images are coming out too dark. Any help on how to alleviate this problem would be greatly appreciated.
My monitor has been profiled accurately with Eye-One Match 3.
    Thanks in advance,
    Wade

    Thomas,
You can do yourself that 2.2 gamma profile in Photoshop and save it as a very simple icc profile if, in Color Adjustments, you choose as greyscale working space a custom gamma of 2,2 then (before closing the dialogue window), you save that "greyscale as..." (don't forget to revert your color spaces after that!).
    Hope it helps

  • Converting photos to sRGB for photo book

    Hi everyone!
I'm very excited about my new photo books, and anxious to send them off, but I'm glad that I checked the discussions first. I noticed a few posts recommending users save their photos using sRGB as opposed to adobeRGB to prevent dark printing and other quality issues. I use Lightroom to catalog and edit all of my photos, and when I exported my selects and added them to the iPhoto library, I exported them as adobeRGB. Is there a way to change the photos to sRGB in iPhoto WITHOUT re-exporting from Lightroom? I'm concerned that if I change to sRGB in Lightroom and re-import to iPhoto that I will loose my many hours of hard work designing the photobooks. Will the books really turn out awful with adobe RGB?

I used Preview to change my photos to sRGB, and now they look pretty awful. Very desaturated and just, well, blah. Is this normal for sRGB? Should I now correct them using iPhoto? I even tried changing my monitor to the sRGB profile (I use a Spyder monitor calibrator) but that looked even worse. Perhaps I'm over-thinking this?

  • PSC6 Black Artifacts converting to RGB & sRGB on Dell

Hi guys, I recently changed pc and monitor causing a damn problem with those color spaces!
My monitor is a Dell u2412m and by default it's setted on:
Now when I open a RAW file with ACR and choose sRGB as color space the result is this:
As you can see, most of the photo presents black shadows. If I save the file and I open it with windows image it's perfect. Indeed, if I choose ProPhoto for monitor and for the photo the visualization is fine:
I must change the color space in sRGB or even RGB before save the final image so I really would like to se a real preview of it in photoshop instead of saving it first. So the problem occurs when I save to RGB (less artifacts) and sRGB (lots of artifacts!). I can't understand this because I'm using the same color space as default for my monitor. Any guess?
    The pc configuration is:
    Intel i7 3770
Ati HD7870 driver Ati 12.11 beta
    RAM 16gb

  • How do I Convert to sRGB in iPhoto '08?

I need help getting my photos to look the same on all browsers.  They look great in iPhoto, and great on Safari, but washed out in Firefox and other common browsers.  I have searched for a good solution for a while, but that has just led to more questions.
    First, I am using:
    iPhoto '08, version 7.1.5
    Mac OSX 10.5.8
    My MacBook is oooold.
My camera is set to sRGB, and on Flickr, in the Exif data, it even shows that it is sRGB.  But I have read here and there that iPhoto, or my Mac, may be altering the color spaces of photos.  (Please understand that this color space stuff is all relatively new to me; I just want my photos to look good on all browsers).
I followed iPhoto's help advice, and deselected the embedded colorsync profile, though I admit I don't really understand if that means I'm deselecting whatever iPhoto/Mac's embedded colorsync profile is, or my camera's (I double checked, and my camera is definitely set to sRGB).  Should I undo that action, or was that the right thing to do?  I tried that, and then uploaded some new photos from my camera to test it out.  I edited one in a pretty noticeable way, uploaded it to Flickr, and it still looked more washed out/faded in browsers other than Safari.
I then tried to follow the advice of someone on a Flickr forum, and put one of my photos into Automator, where I started the process of converting it to sRGB, but just for that one photo it was taking a long time - ten minutes into it, I had to stop it because it caused my computer to run very loudly and get hot.  And if it takes that long for just one photo, that isn't a viable tool to use anyway.
Is there some easier way to do this?  If I get Photoshop, will I be able to easily convert to sRGB?  Why would my photos' Exif data on Flickr show that it is sRGB, but still look more washed out on any browser but Safari?  I thought a photo being in sRGB was supposed to fix that problem.  Is it just saved as sRGB, but not converted to it? I don't know if it helps to be able to examine my Exif data, but in case it does, my Flickr address is: http://www.flickr.com/photos/birdsarethewords/
    Please help!

I'm assuming that you have recorded in mono, then after editing the project and exporting it, the movie plays audio through one channel only on your speaker system.
Try exporting the project using "Share > Export using QuickTime". In QuickTime choose an appropriate video setting (such as H.264). The Sound Settings will probably show the default "Stereo (L R)", as the movie is being exported from iMovie which always assumes you are using stereo. Click on the Settings box - in the window that opens, for Channels select Mono. This may seem counter intuitive, but will allow the audio to be heard through both speakers after exporting. Of course, the audio will be identical in both channels - not true Left/Right stereo.
I haven't tested this but believe I've seen this tip elsewhere in the forum. Hopefully, I haven't misunderstood what you are trying to do.

  • Files no longer default to SRGB after processing

I still have the ICC profile box checked when ave a Jpeg after processing.
Noticed that there was a bit of color shift on some images viewed on my web site in firefox----
checked the color space---unassigned!!  That usually only happened the check box inadvertantly
was not checked.  Now it doesn't save in sRGB unless I assign a profile under the edit menu--not sure that is a good thing to do
or not.  Wonder how to restore it so the check-box on saving a Jpeg works again.

You're welcome.  Just watch your histograms to make sure you don't clip color channels when converting directly to sRGB.
For wide-gamut work I convert to ProPhoto RGB.  For combinational stuff, for example where I need a print and web image, I (try to) remember to do Edit - Convert to Profile before saving as a web preview requiring sRGB.  I created an action that embodies the conversion and "bends" the colors at the gamut edges so that the conversion to sRGB doesn't clip color channels.  Finally, I keep a quick photo viewer (IrfanView) on hand set to do no color management, so I'll be able to see in a quick preview visually if I forgot to convert the image to use the sRGB profile.

  • Strange sRGB soft-proofing behavior

I am wondering if the CMS gurus might have an idea about this:
I am using Photoshop CC, but had a similar experience with the previous version and on a different machine.
I have a wide gamut NEC monitor which has been profiled using i1 Display. The generated profile is selected in Windows as default profile. Everything seems OK with this side of things.
So I have a bitmap file with sRGB embedded profile, and my working space is sRGB.  Colour appears correct in 'normal' editing view, i.e. PS is already adjusting what it is sending to the monitor based on the fact that it is an sRGB image. To confirm, I can look at the same graphic in Firefox with CMS switched on, and it looks the same as in Photoshop. And it looks "correct". Furthermore, if I soft-proof to "Monitor", what I see makes sense too. (Overly vibrant colours). And that's also visually consistent with looking at it in Firefox with CMS switched off.
So far so good. The fun begins when I ask PS to softproof the image to sRGB.  Now, you might ask what would be the point of that, since in theory I'm already looking at it being rendered into sRGB colour space. Regardless, what I expect to happen is that soft-proofing to sRGB makes absolutely no difference to what I see. However this is not the case! The on-screen representation changes markedly... not only is it overly saturated but there is a colour shift as well!  To make matters more confusing, when I use the Info box to show the raw and the softproof colour values, they are identical, as they should be. So the numbers seem OK, but the on-screen rendering is clearly wrong.
I also see a similar effect if I do a "convert to profile sRGB" with preview switched on. Up until I hit the OK button, the preview rendering is "wrong". Once the conversion completes (which did nothing because it was already in sRGB space) it renders as it did before.
I'm wondering if this is some kind of weird bug that happens when you softproof to the space you're already in?

it's very confusing behavior and leads you to wonder if there are other times when the on-screen CMS rendering behavior can't be trusted.
In my observation there are two forms of color-management implementation, both controlled by Adobe:  The first is the traditional Adobe Color Engine as executed by the CPU - this is run if you have the [ ] Enable Graphics Processor setting unchecked or have it checked but are using Basic drawing mode in the Advanced Settings section.  Phtotoshop also reverts to this CPU-resident color-management while you are moving a window and when you're using View - Gamut Warning.
The second form is executed by the GPU and is used when in Normal and Advanced drawing modes.  This GPU implementation is presumably faster, but is also observably inaccurate under certain specific conditions.  For example, if your document is in the ProPhoto RGB color space, it will show subtle color banding in a pure gray gradient.
The GPU-resident color management transforms have also been seen to add multi-value output level jumps, resulting in visible banding, in high bit depth gray gradients, where the CPU-resident code does not.
I reported these inaccuracies to Adobe some time ago, but either the GPU-resident color-management code is inscrutable or they just have other priorities, because the inaccuracies remain.
I just brought all this up, tozzy, since you mention the problem going away when the CPU-resident color-management code is invoked.  To retain GPU acceleration for other things, but use CPU color-management, try using Basic drawing mode if you're concerned about getting the most accurate displays from color-management.  Remember that you have to close and restart Photoshop after making changes in these settings.

  • Converting to another color space flattens image (forgot about the option in the dialog)

I have been working on a layered Pro Photo RGB tif document which I want to keep layered, but when I go to Edit>convert to profile>sRGB this flattens the image. I also tried it converting to Adobe RGB and the same thing happened. This didn't happen in previous versions.
    Windows 7, 64 bit.

See if unchecking Flatten Image to Preserve Appearance at the bottom of the convert profile dialog makes a difference.

  • How to have posted images display as sRGB on wide-gamut monitors.

I understand an sRGB profile is necessary for  posting images but I need help on how to do that with Photoshop CS2 and  my new wide-gamut monitor (HP  LP2475w with Spider3Express  calibration). Before doing a "save for web" and posting, I "convert to  profile" to either "sRGB IEEE61966-2.1" or "sRGB with hardware  configuration derived from calibration" (it makes no difference which), but I  see then a significant color shift in the posted images when I view them  through Firefox 3.6 (with operating color management software -verified  on other posted images) and the same color shift with IE6 (which has NO color management software).  So,  Firefox is NOT RECOGNIZING my posted images with the sRGB profiles that  I thought I was embedding in them in Photoshop.  So my question boils  down to: WHAT EXACTLY DO I HAVE TO DO IN PHOTOSHOP SO FIREFOX WILL RECOGNIZE THE POSTED IMAGES AS sRGB and display them 'correctly' on wide-gamut monitors??
    Thank you very much.
    -Jeff

ISSUE RESOLVED.  Photoshop CS2 was not embedding an sRGB profile in  the images I was posting.  I needed to check the "ICC Profile" checkbox  in "save for web" to make that actually happen (after I did "convert to  profile" sRGB).
I also have switched to "Full Color Management" Value 1 (hidden) in Firefox 3.6 so that Firefox now assumes any untagged image is sRGB standard and then converts those, and all other  images which ARE tagged, to my calibrated monitor profile. This definitely looks to me like the way to operate with a wide-gamut  monitor although I understand it is still recommended to always tag images for  posting as sRGB and not embed any other profile for color consistency  over color accuracy.  At least if there are some out there with wider-gamut  tags, I should get some benefit.
Have I got it right ?
    Thanks,
    Jeff
