Converting from Erwin model to Designer

Can anyone describe any method other than
1) generating out of Erwin and capturing either DDL.
2) reverse engineering from the Oracle database
The problem with both methods is that Erwin comments turn into Oracle Table and Column comments and DO NOT reverse engineer allthe way back to Entity definitions.
With 1500 columns and 130+ tables; the COPY/PASTE approach looks very unattractive.
Thanks,
Chris

  • Metadata from Erwin data model to BO Designer

    Hi,
    I have generated a CWM XML file from ErWin, that contains the physical table names of all tables in the model. I am using universe "metadata exchange" to convert this data model into a universe. The first time "create universe" is happening fine.
    The problem is while updating the model.
    There is a "owner" field specified in Erwin table. If thats left empty, the tables in the universe schema are generated as "unnamed_NNN.<TABLE_NAME>". (NNN is a number)
    Obviously I have to remove the unnamed_NNN from the tables so that it will recognise the default database for the connection.
    Say, the metadata has undergone some changes and we want to update the universe with new metadata. I used "metadata exchange" to update the universe from the model. At this time, it creates a new table and class with "unnamed_NNN.<TABLE_NAME>", instead of updating my TABLE_NAME class and object definition with the changed metadata.
    This basically means update doesn't function as expected. Can anyone suggest if this is a limitation of the metadata exchange or am I doing something wrong ?

    I am trying to do the same thing using ER/Studio and have the same problem.
    In addition, the joins from the model are not being reflected in the universe.

  • Tools for converting from Designer 1.x to 6?

    I am about to work for a client that would like to convert their data model from Oracle Designer version 1.3 to version 6. They, of course, have both logical and physical models defined in the tool. They do not use Designer to create triggers or stored procedures, but they do store business rules in the repository (I'm not sure where. . .). The business rules serve as documentation for business analysts.
    Is Oracle Designer upwardly compatible from version 1? That is, will I be able to open the version 1 model with version 6 software? If not, are there tools that I might use to perform the transition?
    Thanks for the help,
    Tom

    Tom,
    For a technical migration from designer 1 to designer 6.0, there is extensive documentation in the 6.0 product how to do this. Your repostitory information will be available in designer 6 once you upgraded. If you used Headstart for designer 1.3.2, take a look at the Headstart migration issues for migration your template package (info can be found on OTN,(http://technet.oracle.com/products/headstart/)
    . If you want to migrate your business logic, you might want to take a look at the CDM RuleFrame option (whitepapers available on the website), a powerfull way to model and implement business logic in the server (with transaction level validation, no more mutating table problems etc.)

  • Legal: Reuse RDL Object Model from decompiled Microsoft.ReportingServices.Designer.Controls.dll

    Hi,
    We need to create complex RDLs from code, from scratch and be able to modify existing one.
    The ideal solution is to use RDL Object Model classes from the Microsoft.ReportingServices.Designer.Controls.dll that ships with SSRS 2012.
    Unfortunately that dll is only for x86 and requires lots of depdendencies.
    One of our devs, decompiled that dll and extracted only RDL OM classes, packed into new DLL and made it Any CPU-enabled.
    I do not allowed this approach and wanted to find out first - is it legal doing this? The dll is going to be installed on our IIS-boxes.
    The RDL standard is open so theoretically, re-using plain RDL-OM classes should be legal.
    Thanks,
    Alex

    Hi Alex,
    It’s illegal if you want to reuse RDL Object Model through decompiling Microsoft.ReportingServices.Designer.Controls.dll.

    Hi all,
    I would like to build one API which will convert document to PDF which design patten in c#  I should use so that it will be scalable and secure.
    Abhijit Desai

    Hello,
    In .NET no direct support for Word Document to PDF Document Conversion. However, as far as I know, the office seems to provide api/add-in which could do this, you could check this sample:
    Word Document to PDF Conversion.
    Or checking the Document.SaveAs Method:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/library/microsoft.office.tools.word.document.saveas(v=VS.80).aspx
    If you are using office 2007, you could use this add-in below:

  • Erwin model import into ODI

    Hi,
    Hs anyone out there done an import of Erwin Models into ODI. I am trying to achieve this succesfully, but though the model gets imported with the columns , heirachy and constraints, the "Diagrams" leaf does not display an ERD as expected.
    My steps are as follows:
    1) In Erwin create a model (PRODUCT MODEL) containing 2 objects - PRODUCT and PRODUCT_TYPE with a one to many relationship between them. i.e. a product can belong to only ONE product type.
    2) Export model to External Format with the following parameters:
    Source parameters
    ==============
    parameter Value
    Import UDPs As metadata, migrate default values
    Import relationship name From relationship name
    Import IDs True
    Import subject areas Imported as packages and diagrams
    Destination parameters
    ==============
    parameter Value
    Directory c:\users\olu\erwin testing
    ID Suffix 991
    XML files get created in desitnation directory.
    LSC_UNAMEDSCHEMA.xml
    MOD_UNAMEDSCHEMA.xml
    In ODI Designer, import model with the following parameters:
    Import Type - Duplication
    File import directory - c:\users\olu\erwin testing
    File to import - UnanamedSchema
    Model imports succesfully, but there are no diagrams. Is that the default behaviour?
    Thanks,
    Olu

    I would not personally use diagrams within ODI, they are incredibly slow to work with. When I have used Erwin to create the model, I have just incremented the version of the filename, so got round the versioning issue that way.
    One thing that may sway you is that ODI is additive only. I.e. if you remove a column or a FK from your model, when reversing this back into ODI, that column/FK will still remain in the ODI model (remember this is metadata, so logical, not physical) so will still need to physically move it from the ODI interface mappings/model. So using your concept of checking out the diagrams, amending them and then reversing them back into ODI will not be 100% accurate.
    The new version of Oracle SQL developer does have a modelling tool. And this also has versioning
    Hope this helps

  • How to push Process model to design model?

    I just learned how to capture business requirements and a logical design using the logical data modeler and process molder to create data flow diagrams, with composite, primitive and transformative processes in SQL Developer 3.0
    I know in Oracle Designer we were able to associate entities to business functions and transform the business functions into modules of type PL SQL or screen, etc.... We could create detail design documents from this information in Oracle Designer. In Oracle Designer the modules would be associated to the physical table definitions. However, the data flows in SQL developer are associated to logical entities.
    My question is can these objects/items (processes primitive, composite, transformative) be transformed into design items similar to how we transform a business function in Oracle Designer into a modulel?
    Thanks
    Mark
    Mark Kramm

    Hi Mark,
    there is no support for applications and modules in Data Modeler.
    Design can be exported to reporting repository and there is no limit in how you can utilize these meta data. Column groups and UI defaults can be defined at table and column level - I know some people are generating APEX applications and process model can be very helpful for that.
    In Oracle Designer the modules would be associated to the physical table definitions. However, the data flows in SQL developer are associated to logical entities.Each entity can be mapped to unlimited number of implementations in form of tables in relational and physical models. You need to engineer logical model to one or more relational models. There is small wizard appearing in context menu of data flow diagram node in browser - "Transform Process model roles to Physical role". You can create roles in process model and assign them to processes connected to data stores. Then this wizard will create these roles in selected physical model and CRUD settings will be transferred to permissions to select, insert, update and delete for related tables. This is just example that physical model can be reachable from process model.
    We'll add more utilization of definitions in process model in future releases.

  • Are there problems converting from Adobe Bridge to Organizer?

    HI,
       I've searched for information on this and haven't found anything so maybe there aren't any problems :} but...Murphy and I are good friends so I have to ask if there are problems.
    I currnetly run Elements 8 on a MacBook and have about 2000 pictures in Bridge and some in Iphoto. I use bridge for pictures for web design and Iphoto for family stuff.  I 'help out' with the computer stuff at a cat shelter in town and they have just bought Elements 10 and run the PC version.  I am thinking of upgrading to 10 so I will be familiar with their version but am worried about converting from bridge to organizer. Are there any known problems?  Is there a tutorial some place about the conversion from bridge to organizer.
    Thanks for any ideas

    You have no pictures in Bridge. Bridge is just a browser; it just shows the current state of any folder to which you point it, so that's no problem. If you really want to use organizer, it will pick up your metadata keywords when you import the photos. Photos from iphoto will be duplicated on import to the organizer (normally it just makes a dbase pointer to the existing photo) to avoid inadvertently writing into the iphoto library, which can corrupt it and cause loss of the photos it contains.
    You will lose any stacks in bridge when you import the photos into organizer.

  • Engineering from relational model to logical model duplicated views

    Hi all,
    Several times, also in different projects, when I engineer from relational model to the logical model, the comparator tool show me de differences.
    In these differences there are no view differences, but when I finish the process everything goes right except that in the logical model under views, I see all the views duplicated with [view_name]v1.
    I've tried not selecting the view checkbox, in the compare dialog,but I get duplicated views also.
    I don't know fir sue if this happens with table also.
    What can I do to solve this problem? Is this a bug?
    Edited by: morfeo8marc on 04-abr-2012 2:02

    The problem is fixed in DM 3.1.1.703 and it's published. You can run following script and save design in order to get mappings for views recovered.
    Philip
    lmodel = model.getDesign().getLogicalDesign();
    rmodels = model.getDesign().getRelationalDesigns().toArray();
    for (var i = 0; i < rmodels.length; i++) {
    rm = rmodels;
    eviews = lmodel.getEntityViewSet().toArray();
    for (var k = 0; k < eviews.length; k++) {
    ev = eviews[k];
    tv = rm.getTableViewSet().getObjectByID(ev.getGeneratorID());
    if(tv == null){
    tv = rm.getTableViewSet().getObjectGeneratedBy(ev);
    if(tv != null){
    rm.getRMExtendedMap().createMapping(ev,tv);

  • Importing Erwin models to SQL Developer Data Modeler (SDDM)

    Has anyone successfully done this? The real problem I am having is figuring out how to export the model from Erwin. SDDM expects an XML file from Erwin, but we have not figured out where in Erwin there is a XML export option. I am assuming someone in product development tested this right? And that they had a specific path they followed to make it successful. I am trying ot get a client to use SDDM but if we can't get the existing models into SDDM, it will be a no-go.
    Thanks!

    Hi Kent,
    we have not figured out where in Erwin there is a XML export optionIt's in "Save As" functionality (ERwin) - you can select to save the model in XML format - that's for ERwin 4.x and ERwin 7.x.
    Version 2.0 (current published) supports import from ERwin 4.x, version 3.0 of data modeler supports import of ERwin 7.3 models.

  • Converting from a DEC protocol to Intel protocol

    How to do convert from a DEC Double precision floating point  to Intel Double precision floating point or any designated number in the DEC protocol to Intel protocol.

    Hi Tbone,
    For the most part, including the term "DEC" on this exchange is effective in limiting the number of responses you will get.
    Conversion of number types between different platforms can usaually be handled by byte swaps, word swaps and type casting depending what you are coming from and what platform you are running on.
    If you need additional help, please indicate what data you have and what it should equal and the contributors here can help you figure out the details.

    Hi Experts,
    I'm having a problem with my data loading from BW, using the standard Load InfoProvider Selections data manager package.
    If I run for a period without data it succeeds (with warning) but if there is data to be extracted I get the following error:

    Error occurs when loading transaction data from other model
    model: AIACONS. Package status: ERROR
    As it runs ok when there isn't data it appears there is something preventing the movements of data out of the cube itself, rather then a validation issue.
    Has anyone encountered similar or have any ideas as to the problem?
    Best,

    Hi Vadim,
    It's not specific to the transformation file as I have tried with others for the same BW cube and get the same result.
    We get a warning when we try and validate the transformation file:
    "Error occurs when loading transaction data from other model".
    This only appears in the validation pop up and doesn't throw up any warnings about the transformation file itself.  The validation log says:

    the yField works, but for the xField I want to have the @date

    it.
    Also, I would like to display on the chart only the values to
    a specific date (like @date="05/17/2007").
    Any suggestions on how to do that?

  • Join data from various model / transpose data in models

    Hello there,
    is there a best practice or pattern to re-use data from a model when the original layout does not match the control's necessities right? Consider the following example:
    var oData = {
      "persons": [
        {"name": "Sonja Software", "phones": ["12345", "54321"]},
        {"name": "Conrad Coder", "phones": []},
        {"name": "Mike Mailinglist", "phones": ["6789"]},
        {"name": "Hugo Hacker", "phones": ["54321"]}]};
    This could be easily used to set up a table for example, see this gist here.
    What is the best way to also show a table of all telephone numbers? I could manually go over the data and set up another model to achieve this:
    var oDataTransposed = {
      "phones": [
        {"number": "12345", "persons": ["Sonja Software"]},
        {"number": "54321", "persons": ["Sonja Software", "Hugo Hacker"]},
        {"number": "6789", "persons": ["Mike Mailinglist"]}]};
    But this would make the two models get out of sync once, e.g. a name is changed. The above mentioned gist has three files. The `exampleTransposed.js` contains a manual inversion making the phone numbers the primary items. But there is certainly a more elegant way to achieve this, isn't it? Maybe by creating a model which itself is bound to the original model by some kind of databinding or some sort of calculated properties, see this comment on knockoutjs.
    M.
    PS: Maybe one should also add a
    {"number": undefined, "persons": ["Conrad Coder"]}
    In order to not to loose some of the persons but this is just a minor detail.

    Hello Martin,
    in the example https://gist.github.com/ricma/cf81829181cfd4e86354 the JSONModel is used. JSONModel is a client-side model. Each of the two tables (person table, phone table) needs its own data and model. In order to synchronize models after editing a table cell, two conversion functions are needed. One function converts person data into phone data, the other converts phone data into person data (see example for implementation):
    function makePhoneList(oPersonList) {
    function makePersonList(oPhoneList) {
    Furthermore, two callback functions are needed. These callback functions shall be called whenever a table cell is modified:
    function personModelChanged(oControlEvent) {
      oPhoneData = makePhoneList(oPersonData);
      oPhoneModel.setData(oPhoneData);
    oPersonTable.addColumn(new sap.ui.table.Column({
      label: new sap.ui.commons.Label({text: "Name"}),
      template: new sap.ui.commons.TextField({
        value: "{personModel>name}",
        change: personModelChanged})}));
    function phoneModelChanged(oControlEvent) {
      oPersonData = makePersonList(oPhoneData);
      oPersonModel.setData(oPersonData);
    oPhoneTable.addColumn(new sap.ui.table.Column({
      label: new sap.ui.commons.Label({text: "Phone Number"}),
      template: new sap.ui.commons.TextField({
        value: "{phoneModel>number}",
        change: phoneModelChanged})}));
    The solution works but has some disadvantages:
    data and models have to be synchronized manually
    for n models, 2n-2 conversion functions are needed
    every modification causes creation of at least n-1 data structures and models
    Best regards,
    Frank
