Converting German Keyboard to English Keyboard Yoga 13

Hello,
I received a German lenovo laptop as a gift. I wanted to know if I can order an english lenovo keyboard and physically replace the German keyboard and expect everything to function (of course changing the keyboard settings to English).
Thank you!
Dan

It will be full compatible.

I am thinking abut buying the new MacBook Pro 15" Retina in Malaysia, therefore with an English keyboard layout. Is there any affordable and less complex possibility to change the layout afterwards to german,  besides decals etc., as I am German and will continue my university studies in Germany next year?

    Hello r555,
Thank you for being a My Best Buy member, and thank you for visiting our forum.  I am very sorry to hear that it has not always been easy for you to receive your Gamers Club Unlocked bonus when trading in games.  I'll be happy to talk to you about your experience.
I get the impression you are quite familiar with the trade-in process and how the bonus is applied, and it is disappointing to hear that a store associate wouldn't attempt to complete that process.  I will be sending you a private message so we can get some more specific information regarding which store you were at as well as the trade in question where you did not receive the bonus.  Please watch for a message from me shortly.

  • Tecra M3: Change english keyboard to a german one

    Hi,
I have received a Tecra M3 with an english keyboard, though we are located in Germany. This in fact makes it a bit hard to deal with german special characters. Is it possible to simply exchange the keyboard by a german one? And, if so, how much does it cost?
    Thanks, Carsten

    Hi
I really dont know how much it costs but I am pretty sure that you can exchange the keyboard to German one. Service partner can order it for you. After that install German operating system and .. enjoy the life.
If you want to exchange it alone, be careful because of warranty but the exchange procedure is very simply and you can do it alone. If you need some help write gain.
    Good luck!

  • Keypress on non-English keyboard

I have a Keypress interaction for the = key on the English
keyboard. If the student has an Italian keyboard the same key
creates an ì. To make this work the Keypress icon title I used
is =|ì This works fine. Now I'm trying to match the German
keypress. Turns out the key is a "dead key" and creates an accent
mark on the next key that is entered. Any ideas on how to make the
interaction work if the German equivalant of the English = is
    entered?

I would think any key or combination that produces an = on
    the screen would
work, regardless of its actual position on the keyboard.

  • Spanish characters in English keyboard?

    Hi all,
I have both British and Spanish language inputs from System Preferences so I can switch between them.
This constrains me to use the character palette. when typing Spanish.
Does anyone know the keystrokes for accented vowels in Spanish, using English keyboard?
    The characters are: á, é, í, ó, ú, ü and ñ
    Thanks in advance

    iMac G5, 2.1 GHz, iSight   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

It is very easy to learn and remember the accents on the Macintosh keyboard, unlike in Windows which are done as ALT- 000, where 000 is some forgetable number.
You don't have to learn each specific instance, just the associated vowel which is most commonly used with it. The set of pre-keys works with the other vowels as well.
So for example the umlaut ¨is most commonly seen on the German ü so just remember the associated cmd u followed by whatever vowel after to get:
    option u = ä, ë, ï, ö, ü
    similarly
    option ` [under the esc key] = à, è, ì, ò, ù
    option e = á, é, í, ó, ú
    option i = â, ê, î, ô, û
    option n = ã, õ, ñ
Some work more directly such as:
    option a = å
    option o = ø
    option s = ß
    option b = ∫
    option c = ç
    option d = ∂
    opton f = ƒ
Some are more arcane but still memorable:
    option q = œ (think of an extended o)
option w = ∑ (think of turning the w on its side)
    option r = ® (fairly obvious)
    option t = †
    option y = ¥
    option p = π
    option v = √
    option m = µ
    option = = ≠
Usually the shift gets the capitalised version (doesn't work out 100% of the time).
This is what I love about the remarkable clear headedness and forethought that went into Macintosh design. Fortunately most of this has survived the transition to OSX.
Even if I don't specifically know which key does it a quick guess and try gets it for me.

  • Buying U.S. English Keyboard in Germany

I'm currently living in Germany and need to update my PowerBook G3 to a new (the update coming in a week or two) MacBook Pro. I can buy one with an International English keyboard from the German Apple website, but would rather get a U.S. keyboard (left shift key is truncated in International version, so harder for me to reach, same with return key).
Anybody know if it's possible to buy a MacBook Pro with a U.S. English keyboard in Germany?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    best,
    Jake

Unfortunately, no. Not from Apple, at least. The online store for the US will not ship internationally.
You may be able to purchase one from a 3rd party retailer (e.g. Best Buy or another online seller), but I'm not certain - you'd have to check on that. Or, purchase online from the US online Apple Store and have it shipped to someone in the US who can then ship it to you.
    Hope this helps...

  • English keyboard instead of french !

When I enter a caption in LR (french version), "a" is entered instead of "q" and "q" instead of "a".
On english keyboard, first letter is "q" on first raw and "a" in second raw.
On french one, first letter is "a" on first raw and "q" in second raw.
So, it seems that LR works as if I had an english keyboard.
Of course, others softwares (Word, Photoshop...) dont make this mistake...
Does anybody knows what I am doing wrong ?

Sorry I can't be more precise but I'm sitting on a German PC and it took me ages to find it the first time round. However, in XP there are 2 ways to change the layout of your keyboard. The first (and only if you have in the Taskbar (bottom right) a small icon indicating which language your keyboard currently is set to. By right clicking on this you can bring up a menu in which you can add another language. I regularly switch between a German and English keyboard and have set a keyboard shortcut (Alt + Shift) to do this. You can also set your own preference within the menu. If the current keyboard setting is not present in the Taskbar than I'm afraid you'll have to go diving in the Help file - changing keyboard - or something like that. Sorry I can't be more helpful at this time - it is there, it is an option, you'll just have to find it.

The current options available online are U.S. English, Western Spanish, French or Japanese keyboards. You might try calling 1-800-MYAPPLE to speak to someone. It's possible you might be able to get something else as a BTO option.

  • How can i change my macbook pro keyboard buttom english to arabic

How can i change my macbook pro keyboard buttom english to arabic

Apple does make and sell MacBook Pros with Arabic keyboards but, as far as I know, they're only sold in the Arabic market. You may be able to special order one: I don't know. You may even be able to order the keyboard only online or at your local Apple Store and have your English keyboard replaced. Again, I don't know.
The best thing to do, if you're in the US, is to call Apple at 1-800-MYAPPLE. Tell them what you need and see how they might go about fulfilling your needs.

  • Where can I buy a Macbook pro retina display with english keyboard in bangkok

    Hi,
I am currently in Bangkok right now. I wanted to buy the new Macbook Pro with retina display. I went to Power Buy in Central world and found out that the keyboard for the macs have thai characters as well as English ones. I wanted to buy a mac with plain English keyboard. The guy in the store said that is only possible if I buy online.
Is there anywhere or any store in Bangkok where I could get the new macbook pro with an english keyboard? Thanks.

Since nobody in this forum represents Apple or any store, you will probably get better info on this by directly contacting stores yourself.

  • Macbook bought in France with a international english keyboard problem

    Hi,
My friend bought a macbook for france apple online store, he choosed a international english keyboard layout, but when he got it, he found that the keyboard is neither english laybout nor french layout, because there is not any configurations that matches his physical keyboard buttons.
The A - Z buttons is as the US keyboard, but the ;'~`[](){}/?! etc. are not correct, that means when u choose the US layout from the system preference->international, the A - Z work, but the ;'~`[](){}/?! are not at where u see them, when u choose FR layout, A - Z are not correct, british english doesn't work, too.
I have tried all the english countries and french countries, but no one works with 100% of the buttons.
Can Apple give me a solution to the problem? or if the macbook that he got is not well assembled?

Yes… I would at a minimum contact Apple sales or AppleCare regarding this. You have two options though. You can ask for a new one, given they can't simply swap out a keybaord you need to exchange the whole thing.
Otherwise, you can use it as a bargaining chip and say ask for a free external International English keyboard and a discount on your next Apple Store purchase… for instance.
Regardless, be polite yet firm with them as you did not get what you ordered.

  • History back on non-english keyboards

It appears that all non-english keyboards (meaning keyboards that does not have the [ and ] characters as a "singlepress-key"), can't use the history back and forward feature anymore. You need to use the mouse right-click feature or use the buttons in the menu. I'm using a Wacom Tablet and have my buttons are configured to history back and forward when Safari is an active window. I've tried to switch to US keyboard and make the shortcut in the Wacom software, but after I go back to my native language - Danish - it doesnt work. After Apple changed the option from backspace to command + [ and ], I cannot use the history anymore unless I have to use the mouse.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi Jim,
That shouldn't be a problem at all, if you buy it in the US, the software will be in English, but should install just fine on her PC.
I'm sure someone will give their input, some people here have bought players from other regions.

  • Some applications don't put accents with non-english keyboard layouts

I'm using a Portuguese keyboard with three different macs running Mac OS Tiger 10.4.8/9. Some applications (like Motion 2 and Swift Publishing 2) don't allow writing some accented characters, like (è) or (ê), that are accessed by Shift+normal key, but they do display correctly other accented letters, for instance (é), witch are accessed directly without the Shift key. This happens only in some applications and with a european keyboard layout (I tried it also with the spanish and french keyboards layouts), but not with other applications (it works all right with Word or iPhoto) and the english keyboards.
Any sugestion as how to solve this? If I create the text in some other application and paste it in Motion it works! But it's a drag.
