Converting LWAPP AP to bridge mode breaks joining controller

I ran into this a few weeks back as I was trying to get some demo depot gear working for a POC. basically all of the 1131 AP's would not join the controller and I got these errors

I tried playing with a lot of things thought it was a certificate issue on the AP's really couldn't figure it out. I had to convert the AP to autonomous and then back to LWAPP for it to work. Now by putting it into bridge mode for mesh support its doing the same thing. Thoughts

For bridge ap to join to the WLC, you should add the ap's MAC address to the WLC MAC filters. You can add the AP's MAC either through the command line interface or the web interface of the WLC. In your case, execute the following command on the WLC:
config mac-filter add

  • Bridge mode nonfunctional when joined to wifi network?

    I have noticed some strange behavior with 2 Time Capsules lately - one brand new, and one other one 6 months ago.
    When joined to a wifi network, the TC will not talk to anything over the ethernet ports. Airport Utility won't find the TC over an ethernet cable and the TC will not pass a wired connection on to the wireless network (even though it appears to be in Bridge mode when joined to a wifi network).
    All other wireless settings (wifi OFF, or creating/extending a wifi network) turn the ethernet ports back on.
    Anyone else see this? Any solution?

    This is normal.
    The Time Capsule performs no routing functions at all when it is configured to "join a wireless network", so the ethernet ports are not enabled in this setting. In effect, it becomes a wireless backup hard drive only.

    Have my airport express in bridge mode with a home hub 3 (that has its wireless network disabled). When i go to join the new wireless network i created on the airport express , it gives me the error in my title.
    What causes the timeout and how can it be fixed?

    As I read the network you should be extend wireless network.. not join. And you need to setup the Express to allow it to be extended.. at least on v5 utility.. on v6 it could work automagically.

  • [SOLVED]VirtualBox Bridged mode not working

    For some reason I am unable to start a virtual machine in host-only or bridged mode.  I can do NAT mode but that doesn't really suit what I want to do very well.  Here is the message I get when trying bridged mode.
    Failed to start the virtual machine Windows XP.
    Failed to open/create the internal network 'HostInterfaceNetworking-wlan0' (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND).
    One of the kernel modules was not successfully loaded. Make sure that no kernel modules from an older verison of VirtualBox exist. Then try to recompile and reload the kernel modules by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root
    (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND).
    I can't run /etc/init.d/vboxdrv because it doesn't exist.  I installed Vbox via Pacman and I'm embarassed to admit I don't really know where it is.  I just launch it by right clicking on my desktop (using fluxbox).
    Any ideas on where to go next?

  • Bridge mode not supported for lap1261N

    Hello,
    I have a WLC2504 and 2 LAP1261N (converted from autonomous to lightweight) with release 7.0.116.0 and I want to create a point-to-point mesh link between the 2 APs. When trying to change the APs mode from local to bridge I receive the message "This AP does not support bridge mode" even if the release notes say that mesh is supported on AP1261N. I tried to change the mode from gui and also from CLI. Any suggestion?

    in aIOS you can tell it to bridge on the 2.4GHz Radio, it's not ideal but it can be done.

  • Airport Express Bridge Mode Cutting Out?

    I recently wasn't able to bring internet to my bedroom, so I bought an Airport Express.  I didn't want to have to buy a modem, so I threw it in another room where I could get internet with my Airport Extreme.  Then, I put bridge mode on my Express so that it would spread the signal.  When I plugged it in, I got internet in my room at the normal speeds I get (I have very slow internet normally, about 300 kb/s.  I thought, great.  Then, about half an hour later, my speeds dropped out to about 50 kb/s.  I'm using a MacBook Air 2010, and it happens on all the other computers in my house.  It's really weird.  If it's any help, I'm on AT&T U-Verse (ick).

    I bought an Airport Express and plugged it in just to the power, no ethernet, and set it up to join a network
    The "join" setting on the Express will not provide more wireless coverage.
    Check the setting on the Express again using AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
    Click the Wireless tab just under the row of icons
    The setting for Wireless Mode needs to be "Extend a wireless network".
    "Join a wireless network" will not do what you want.

  • Ace module in bridged mode with client nat

    Could someone confirm whatever a NAT is supported for ACE-20 module, please?
    Let me to explain technical details.
    I do need to convert working CSM(SLB) config to ACE configuration and I am not quite sure
    if the configuration below is correct. ACE module should be configured in bridge mode with two
    vlans - vlan 36 (client) and vlan 436 (server) - bridged with interface bvi 36.
    NAT on ACE configurad as "nat dynamic 1025 vlan 436" into corresponding
    "policy-map type loadbalance"
    Could you check two parts of configs and advise me if the ACE config is
    properly converted from CSM and will be working in the same way (especialy for NAT).

      You will want to use PAT while you do nat, so change the natpool configuration to this:

  • Airport Extreme ethernet routing in Bridge Mode

    i had(!) the following scenario Airport Extreme (5th Generation) .. via WAN connect to the modem, Ethernet to serval switches, WiFi acting as WDS Main
    the WDS Slaves are 3 small Airport express and one Airport Extreme (1st Generation)
    due a cabeling problem i had to move the WAN Modem .. and connected it to the 1st generation airport extreme created a Joined network (not WDS) enabled DHCP on the same device.
    the new Airport extreme (5th generation) and the Airport Express joined the same network and running in bridge mode.
    everything works just like before .. all networks parts can connect to each other, anywhere else including the internet.
    exept of anything connected to the ethernet ports of the (now slaved) airport extreme (5th generation) anything connected there seems not to be routed at all ..
    they have a physical connection (link show on the Airport and on the Switch. but there is zero data going trough ... no DHCP adresses assigned. manually assign a IP in the same network results in the same effect (can't even ping the directly connected Airport Extreme.
    is this a Bug ?

    well does still not make any sense to me .. but you are 100% right ..
    enabeling WDS on the Airport Extreme (1gen) and doing slave the Airport extreme (5 gen) works fine .. but the connection times are about 10 times slower than in a joined network.
    which makes the whole show extremly slow ...
    it takes some times 5 minutes and a million time clicking (assign new) to just get an IP adress ... even if the dhcp running on the same Airport where the client is connecting to ..
    if the 5gen APE is WDS master .. and the 1gen is WDS Slave (my old setup) .. this problem is not existing ...
    but then ican't connect the WAN modem to the slaved Airport since the slave is always bridged and the master requires internet connectivity trough the local Wan port
    any idea to get arround this ?

    What am I doing wrong?
    Hi, this is a re-branded follow-up post of a question yesterday.
    I'm trying to make my AEBS work in bridge mode without success. I have followed instructions from documentation (http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/DesigningAirPort_Networksv4.2.pdf) but it still does not work.
    Here is a quick picture of what I have done:
    iMac-))))((((- AEBS ----- MacBook
    The iMac has its Airport interface and the MacBook its built-in ethernet interface manually configured on a common subnet. The AEBS does not allocate IPs and has a self-assigned IP. The AEBS is physically connected to the MacBook via its LAN port.
    Still the iMac and MacBook cannot see each other.
    Questions:
    - The AEBS and the macs are configured to use WAP2 personal. Can that cause a pbm?
    - What else should I check?
    - Any other info I coud provide to help?

    If I understand your post correctly, you are using your iMac as a wireless base station to create a wireless network. Then you want your AEBS to join that network. Is that correct?
    If that is correct, it will not work. The AEBS can only wirelessly join a network if it is configured to use WDS. Since the iMac acting as a wireless base station does not support WDS this is not possible.
    I hope that I am misunderstanding your setup. Since the iMac and MacBook both have wireless capability, why are you trying to use the AEBS as a bridge?

    I'm upgrading to a 'blisteringly fast' 12 Mbps with my local DSL ISP (no cable in my area), and I'm thinking of changing out my
    My current, antiquated setup is with a Speedstream 5200 Modem/Router (8 Mbps max) with a Linksys E1200 802.11n router. We have an Apple TV with HDMI into a stout Panasonic plasma, 2 Macs, 3 iPads (2xgen4 + mini), 3 5C iPhones and an old Dell Winbox (XP vintage that I will toss out) that access this configuration in a good-sized house (2 stories, ~4000 sq.ft.).
    The Linksys 'n' speed router is somewhat adequate, but we want to do movie/video/music streaming to the AppleTV and we want to buy a new Mac (probably a Mac-mini to replace the Winbox). I also want to future-proof this setup for a few years, given the pain it usually is to do a wholesale swap-out like what I'm contemplating. I want to swap-out this pairing with:
    a DSL modem/router to either a Netgear DM111PSP-100NAS (ADSL2+) or an older, but robust Actiontec GT-701D (or the newer -NF).
    an Airport Extreme (802.11ac) to manage my Apple menagerie for fast streaming, and also to hang a poor man's network file storage off the USB port.
    I'm asking for some recommendations from the community at-large so I can minimize the hassles when I do this swap-out.  Which of the two devices (the modem/router or the AE router) should I put in bridge mode? Any performance penalties one way or another, or hidden gotchas?

    I'm back and wanted to put a coda on this thread.
    First of all, many thanks to the recommendations by Tesserax and LaPastenague.  You helped allay my fears in converting over to the Time Capsule environment.
    The home network is working just great.  Internal speed-ups all the way around.  TC is working great as both a file server AND a Time Machine site.  The Netgear DSL modem is the firewall and the DHCP server for my network.  As stated in earlier posts, it has superior firewall capabilities compared to the Time Capsule.  I configured the Time Capsule to Bridge Mode with my iPhone 5C, the configuration of which only took a couple of minutes.  The speed between the 802.11 ac devices, my TC and the new Mac Mini, are unbelievably fast--on the order of 150+ Mbps at a distance of 40 feet or so through several walls--beamforming really does appear to work as advertised.  That doesn't matter overall except for the Time Machine aspects, as my DSL line is a blisteringly fast 12 Mbps.
    The only glitch I've had over the last 3 weeks was due to a short power outage, and the main problem was the networking with hard ethernet connection to the Time Capsule.  I had to reboot the Netgear modem, as it was in a funky state, while other devices, such as my new Mac Mini, were waiting for the modem to vend a DHCP address.  It turns out that the Apple TV had some persistence with its old DHCP-vended address, and the Mac Mini somehow received its IP address first--which conflicted with the Apple TV.  Now, I'm not sure why the wirelessly networked Mac Mini beat the Apple TV to receiving a DHCP vending first, but it did, and the address persistence of the Apple TV created a conflict on the Apple TV network connection.  Once I realized the problem, I shut down the Mac Mini and made sure all my other devices were off as well.  I then restarted the entire network, the Apple TV received its IP address first, and all was well again.  Granted, I could have disconnected the ethernet and allowed really fast wireless to the Apple TV, but it's only 4 feet away from the Time Capsule, so I might as well have the fastest pipe available for HD streaming to my large-format HD television.
    The switchover was absolutely painless.  Both the modem and the Time Capsule took, all total, about 10 minutes to set up and configure.  Much easier than with Winboxes.  Other than the Apple TV IP conflict after the power outage, it's been a real delight.
    I'm very happy I switched to this new network configuration.

  • Bridging mode: ¿can servers be reachable by their real IP addresses?

    Hello team.
    Customer is asking me to load balance a farm of servers for clients in the same subnet, so I am going to configure bridge mode.
    In parallel, customer is asking me to have visibility of the real IP addresses of each of the individual servers in the farm, for management purposes. I do not know if this possible, but I would assume that ACE will bridge packets from client to destination server´s real IP address in cases like this. ¿Am I right?
    I do not know if this is feasible by default or if I need to put policies in place to allow it.

    Let me please check something else about your answer. You say that SRC NAT might be required. I assume that you warn me of this IF clients and servers are in the same VLAN.
    But IF clients are in VLAN X and servers are in VLAN Y (both vlans bridged by the ACE), then the ACE won´t need SRC NAT to disguise clients´ addresses, since clients and servers are physically joined thru the ACE.
    I would appreciate your confirmation on this SRC NAT subject.

  • Airport Express in Bridge Mode.. No AirTunes, limited functionality

    I can only get my internet connection working through my Airport Express (AE) in bridge mode (i.e. the AE connects using 'Ethernet' as opposed to PPoE or WDV).
    My computer is then able to connect to the internet using PPPoE.
    Interestingly, the amber light is flashing although the internet connection is working fine.
    Also, I cannot use AirTunes, and Airport Admin Utility cannot see the Airport Express.
    Now, if I go into System Preferences>Network and disable PPPoE and check DHCP instead, I can see the Airport Express in Airport Admin Utility, the light becomes solid green and AirTunes starts working... BUT... my internet connection stops working!
    Alternatively, I can now go into Airport Admin Utility and configure the AE to connect using PPPoE. However, no matter what settings I input in System Preferences>Network, the internet connection does not work. However AirTunes does work, the light is green and I can find the Airport in Airport Admin Utility.
    It wasn't always like this. Sometime in late November / early December my Airport Express suddenly stopped connecting to the internet. Since then I've been trying very hard to get it working again, with numerous resets etc but its just not happening!
    Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong or what I should do?

    However I've tried on numerous occasions to configure the AX to connect to my ISP using PPPoE but it's always "looking for a PPPoE host". In addition, my ISP tells me that when I try and connect through the AX they dont see any requests coming in.
    Was there a firmware or similar upgrade sometime in late November or early December of this year? I'm asking because all was fine prior to this period, after which internet through the AX only works in bridge mode, with the amber light flashing and no AirTunes functionality. Perhaps if i roll back the driver/firmware then it will start working again?
    Also, is it a limitation of the AX that you cannot use AirTunes or even Airport Admin Utility to configure the AX when the AX is in bridge mode and the computer is not using DHCP to communicate with the AX? That doesnt seem to make much sense to me.

  • Airport express in bridge mode and wrong IP

    Hi all,
    my airport express is driving me nuts!! I'm trying to set it up in bridge mode, just to share the printer and to use airplay, bridging the network of my ISP router, that works fine in wifi mode with all my devices (tested with: 2 MacBookPro, 3 iphone, 1 ipad).
    The issue is that I configure the AE to join my network (using airport utility), it restarts and works just for few minutes and then it drops the IP, and it turns out to not be visible even for airport utility.
    I've noticed that in the summary configuration page of airport utility the IP assigned to the AE is kind of  169.254.X.X that means that the AE is not reciving a valid IP from the router. But, if I press "manual setup" and load the internal configution, in the TCP/IP pannel there is a righ IP number.
    But it stops working anyway :-(
    I've already tried to configure it with a static IP num (in my IP range), but it did not work as well.
    Last thing: my AE is the old one, 802.11g.
    Any suggestion?

    When the AirPort is setup to operate in Bridge Mode, all ports behave as if they were LAN <--> ports, so it would not make any difference which port is used. As a personal preference, and also to aid in troubleshooting, I use the WAN "O" port when configuring a network, if only to know at a glance which cable is which.
    The settings on the AirPort are interactive, so when/if you change the Network Mode to "create a wireless network", that will throw the AirPort back into router mode, so always check to make sure that the AirPort is in Bridge Mode as the last step before you click update to save the settings.

  • Guest Networking with Time Capsule - bridge mode?

    Hi, hopefully someone can help.
    I'm trying to set up guest networking with my time capsule but it's currently set up in bridge mode so it wont let me.
    When I try it in public IP address mode it says 'The DHCP range you have entered conflicts with the WAN IP address of your Airport wireless device'
    I'm completely new to networking and have no idea what most of these terms mean, despite googling them all!
    Can anyone advise on what I need to do to get it all set up?

    Is there no way I could switch off part of the router so it just becomes a modem (or are they completely different things)?
    It might be possible to convert the gateway to function as a simple bridge only modem, but that would involve checking with the support folks for the device. I doubt that your service provider will provide any assistance with this, because they will likely claim that this type of configuration is not supported.
    So, look to see who actually manufactured the device and check with their online forum or support site to see if the conversion to a simple bridge only modem is possible.
    You don't indicate whether you have cable of DSL service, and that will of course affect things as well. If you need to go to a simple modem, the best choice is always a device offered by your service provider, so that you will be supported in the event of Internet connection difficulties.
    If you try an off-the-shelf modem and have any problems, your service provider will offer little or no support. Often, you can get a free modem from your provider in return for a commitment of a year's service. Might be worth checking that out.

    Yes, the Express will work as wireless bridge.. join a wireless network. It then plugs by ethernet into the router. But the router should be working in bridge also so it is really just a WAP. Then you plug in your NAS PC iPAD etc.. that is if the iphone is going to have the ability to handle dhcp from all those devices.. otherwise you have to use the router in NAT mode, which will cause double NAT issues.
    BTW this is all wrong.. buy a 3G/4G wireless router. It is far superior setup. And since you will simply be chewing your data allocation it is better to buy the device for the job instead of creating a hydra.
