Converting RTD voltage to temperature using SCC-TC module.

I'm trying to convert the thermistor voltage from an SCC-TD module to deg C (using VB6). I am using the formulas supplied with the SCC-TC manual. The formula that I'm having problems with is Tk = 1/ [a+b(1nRt)+c(1nRt)^3]. I understand Rt to be the resistance of the thermistor but what is 1n?
If all else fails is there an API call I can make in VB6 for this conversion. I have seen reference to one in C but not VB6.

Hello,
It is not 1n, it is ln i.e., natural logarithm.
The NI-DAQ Users manual talks about the conversion functions.

  • Can I use SCC-DI01 modules with a PCI-6533 device?

I am looking into performing buffered acquisition of various digital signals using a PCI-6533 device. Can I use SCC-DI01 modules with this device? If so, would this be via the SC-2345 Carrier? The manual seemed to suggest is was only compatible with E-series devices?
Basically, I want to monitor 32 digital channels and will have a mixture of 5V and 24V signals.
    Many thanks,
    Douglas

    Hi Douglas
Could you please clarify where the manual suggests that the module is only compatible with an E series board (is it because only an E series board is referenced in the manual)?
I can't find any information stating which devices are/aren't supported by the SCC-DI01, but I will continue to investigate and keep you posted with my progress.
    Kind Regards

  • "RTD Voltage to temperature conversion" for temperatures below 0 degrees

NI gives us a conversion VI for temperatures above 0 degrees Celsius. I need a converter also for negative temperatures.
Where can I find such a VI or a method ?

    Labviewguru and Filipe:
I found the following rather excellent reference on line as a PDF by
    searching RTD+NIST+equation at:
    http://www.data-acq.co.uk/pdf/CHAP-4.pdf
It has the NIST polynomial equations and technical descriptions for
various types of thermocouples and RTDs. I think it is just what you
    are looking for.
You'll just have to slap them into a LabVIEW equation box and that
    should be that.

  • Why is SCC FT MODULE USED?

i am about to use SCC FT module for one of my applications?what is this device function and under which situations is this useful?

    Hello,
The NI SCC-FT01 is a feedthrough module that offers direct connection to analog input or output, digital I/O and Counter channels of the E Series DAQ device. It also includes breadboard area for development of custom signal conditioning circuitry for analog input, analog output, digital I/O, and GPCTR channels of the E Series DAQ device.
I recommend you to read the User Manual of the FT01. You'll find there a more detailed description.

  • Does the voltage to temperature conversation require in usb 6008 using daqmx 8.5??

Another question need u all guy help.I currently using K-type thermocoupler for my project using usb 6008.Does the voltage to temperature conversation require in usb 6008 using daqmx 8.5? what is DAQ TEDS function use ? is it help us to convert?

You will need to factor the voltage per degrees C to get to reading in degrees, this is 10mv per degree V for the device mentioned in the post you previously made

  • Polynomial Equation for converting voltage to temperature

I'm using Labview Express 7.0 and I would like to know how to convert voltage to temperature.  The program says i need a polynomial equation to do this, I'm not sure what polynomial equation i need.  Can anyone please tell me some information regarding this equation.

A few questions so that we may help. What are you measuring the temperature with? What is the program that you are refering to that requires the equation? In the case of thermocouples, the various types (which reflect the different materials used to make them) have different temp vs voltage curves. Some may be relatively flat for part of their range others describe somewhat of a curve. The mentioned polynomial will be obviously different for the different types. If you are using a thermocouple type of element a google search for the characteristics for that type may give you what you need. Otherwise, providing us with the info for the above questions will help us point in the right direction.

  • Reading temperature using 5508TC adac card

i am using 5508TC adac card to read the temperature from the thermocouples fitted in the pipelines. I developed the application. but i dont know exactly what it is reading. because the temp. is 29°F and it is displaying 0.01. and i also dont know what this 0.01 is? whether it is voltage or some garbage. how to read this temperature into the computer.
    thanks,
    kalpesh

    Hi,
The card that you are using is actually outputting voltage reading which is natural. Depending on the type of thermocouple (K, T, etc.) that you are using, you have to convert the voltage into corresponding temperature using the thermocouple co-efficients.

  • I am trying to configure my SCXI-1540 card for excitation voltage and frequency using MAX - but it is not giving me that option when I click on the card and then properties, am I looking in the wrong place?

I am trying to configure my SCXI-1540 w/1315 card for excitation voltage and frequency using MAX - but it is not giving me that option when I click on the card and then properties, am I looking in the wrong place?
I have LabVIEW Express 7.0 Professional - SCXI-1000 Chassiss - along with SCXI-1112, and SCXI 1520/1314 - cable to the PCI-6052E is attached to the 1520 card.
MAX says it recognizes all the cards in the chassiss.

    Jeremy, Thanks for the reply.
I tried to set up the system as DAQmx.
I had MAX auto-detect the set-up - and it recognized all the cards - but did not select the 1315 accessory on the 1540 card - I had to do that manually - but in the configuration section I would select the accessory and it would deselect itself. I had to get out of the set-up and then right click on the 1540 card and click on the "Accessories" tab and select the 1315 terminal block that way.
It didn't seem right that the system should behave that way, but I pressed onward.
I then tried to create a new DAQmx Task
When I create new DAQmx task and then click on Analog Input no "Position" Tab appears for me to select, all I get are:
    Analog>>Voltage
    Analog>>Temperature
    Ana
    log>>Strain
    Analog>>Current
    Analog>>Resistance
    Analog>>Frequency
    Analog>>Custom Voltage with Excitation
Do you think there might be something wrong with either my hardware or perhaps my configuration that is not allowing it to recognize the 1540/1315 in DAQmx?
I had included the system report of what programs I am using, etc. as attached file nireport.txt
After the DAQmx did not work I tried installing everything as Traditional DAQ and it did let me set-up the 1540 Card with Excitation Voltage and Frequency and gain - I then went in to the VI that I had built and tried to use the Express DAQ Assisant to read the channel that I am connected to on the 1315/1540 - when I try to use DAQ Assistant it gives me an error saying that "Device not available in NI-DAQmx. It is possible that the device is being use by traditional NI-DAQ"
Which I guess it is since both configurations are now set-up in MAX.
I would PREFER to use the DAQmx set-up, but I am confused as to WHY it won
    't come up with
    Analog input>>POSITION>>LVDT
When I try to create a new DAQmx task.
Thanks for the help so far! As you can probably tell I am new at this.

  • Control a 3 phase motor and convert input voltages into pressure values.

    Hi,
I'm in my 4th year at university and I have been given a project that involves the experimental investigation of the interaction between fishing gears and the seabed. The work will consist dragging full-size or scale trawl components along a channel containing typical seabed sediments. I aim to create a LabView program that will allow me to operate the motor and analyze the 6 transducers I will be using.
For the motor I desire to be able to:
    1 - Start the motor.
2 - Define the speed it accelerates to.
3 - Have the ability to switch off automatically depending on its speed and distance it has to the end of the rig to avoid the trolley crashing.
For the 6 transducers (4 pressures, 1 load cell, 1 horizontal displacement) I desire to be able to:
1 - Convert the voltage signal into the relevant unit of measurement.
    2 - Record data at a rate of 10Hz.
3 - Output the recorded data into a file and also onto graphs.
I also intend to introduce an emergency shut down facility for the whole system.
I have started doing the built-in tutorials so i am able to do the basic routines. However I have no idea where to start creating a program to control a 3 phase motor and to be able t convert voltages from transducers into pessures and distances.
I have version 8.5 if anyone has any information or advice i would greatly appreciate it .
    Thanks,
    Grant.

    Hello LochiMD,
there are sereral things you have to care about.
The best would be, you have a look on the following link:
Synchronize continuous Acquisition of Multiple Analog Input Devices
https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-12182 (Have a look on the picture, especially left side)
You should use the VI DAQmx Timing (Sample Clock), samples per chanel and sample mode is necessary.
If you do this, your program should work.
    Best Regards,
    Nina

  • Simple VI to measure Temperature using Agilent 34901A

I am trying to measure/record temperatures using Agilent 34901A and 34970A. I have all the T type TCs connected. I am not familiar with Agilent drivers so if anyone can provide some guidance. I just need simple VI. I am familiar with typical DAQ Assist VI and acquire signal from NI Hardware but no experience with Agilent. I got the drivers for Agilent but it seems much more complex than I need it to be.

I have been messing with a variation of Agilent drivers for the last couple of days. Labview's built in Visa drivers don't handle Agilent stuff quite correctly, and so you need to install their driver version (with the Agilent IO Libraries Suite).  There is lots of documentation showing you how to configure LabVEW to work with their Visa drivers.  Once you get that taken care of, I'm sure there are sample programs you can model off of.  For example, try here:
    http://www.home.agilent.com/agilent/editorial.jspx?cc=US&lc=eng&ckey=1838058&nid=-11143.0.00&id=1838...
And don't forget to apply the thermocouple coeffecients in to your program if you scan the voltages directly

    Edit: Typo!

  • How do I use traditional NI-DAQ to find a temperature using a thermocouple?

I have seen examples using scxi modules and NI-DAQmx programming to find temperature using a thermocouple. For my application, I do not have a scxi module and my programming is in traditional NI-DAQ. I tried copy and pasting a NI-DAQmx application into my program and it did not work due to the traditional and mx conflict. My question now is how can I measure temperature using a thermocouple with Traditional NI-DAQ programming on a PCI6025E? Thank you.

I believe I posted a response for the same question here:

Everybody's wrong wrong wrong. You don't need garageband. Select the song, go to info. You need to select a start and stop time for the song that can't be any longer than 40 seconds in length. Then in advanced mode you convert the song to acc. once done locate the file on the computer. it should end in .m4a . Change the a to an r so it reads .m4r Drag the file to the desktop, double click and it ends up in ringtones folder.
