Coonect Portal to External SQL Database

HI,
I would like to link the portal to an external Sequel database, but could not find instructions on how to do this.  Please post instructions on how to do this - thanks

Hi,
This has to be done through Portal admin ; follow /chk the following steps to connect ur Portal server to External SQL DB server;
1. Define system object by specifying server IP, db name, port name etc.
2. In JDBC u can interface this system object
3. Provide User mapping from portal to SQL server user

    Hi Experts,
I am trying to extract data from an External SQL Database  in BW using

please first tell me which wich user you connect and the exact name of your table/view: is it dbo.table?
as I said, better create a user in your SQL, log with this user and create a view.
in RSBDC select this view and generate datasource. Check if you see data.
if yes, the load shouldn't fail.
We came across the same issue: login with sa, accessing a dbo. object; seing the data in RSDBC but nothing loading...
    let me know
    Olivier.

  • Portal application connect SQL Database

    Hi all,
I'm newbie in SAP Portal. Now, I've created a new system which connects to SQL Database. Now I want to write a small portal application in Netweaver developer studio, using JSP Dynpage, and retrieve data from this SQL database. Could you please help me or show me the step by step documents to write this example ?
    Thank you very much.

    Hi Tweety,
SAP NetWeaver Portal comes with some standard iView templates that can be used to access data stored in databases.
    Check <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/f5/eb51610e6a11d7b84900047582c9f7/frameset.htm">SAP Library</a> for more information.

  • Can XMP be used by an external SQL database to index photos and access keywords?

I am developing an image library to be accessible by my company's intranet. Since my company has literally thousands of employees who will be adding content to the library, I am wondering if for example, I write keywords to the photos via Photoshop, Lightroom, etc. and then add them to the library, is there a way to have the SQL database query the JPG or TIFF files for the XMP data and import it into fields in the SQL database?
I don't know if there is an existing app out there that would do this already but if anyone knows anything, I'm all ears.
    Cheers.

    Hi Martin,
You can take a look on our Kalimages Pro software:

  • Does JRE 1.6 include a built-in SQL database?

I'm investigating the creation of a custom Java database application that's intended to run on multiple systems, particularly Windows and Macs.
I'd like to store and retrieve my data using SQL, rather than as flat files. At the same time, I'd also like to minimize the number of jar files required by the application.
I've used JDBC to talk to external SQL databases; the programming part is not an issue. The question is whether I'm forced to obtain an external DB server (such as MySQL), which increases the cost and installation complexity of my app, or if Java includes an interface to built-in SQL or SQL-like database server.
I'm thinking I already know what the answer to this is going to be, but no harm in checking.
    Thanks!

The installs from Sun for linux, solaris and windows contains Derby. It is not part of the Java API so you still must put it in the class path.
Apparently for some reason the Mac 1.6 version doesn't include it.
Not really all that much of a problem because Derby is free and a new version was just released. That at least might suggest using that instead of the Sun one anyways. Derby is from the Apache site.
There are at least a couple of other embedded databases as well.
Finally there is a JDBC forum where these sorts of questions are probably better asked.

  • Is it possible to migrate WebCenter Portal data from a SQL database to an Oracle database?

We have our WebCenter Portal applications set up using a SQL database. Now we're wanting to migrate to an Oracle database and I'm wondering if that is possible.

Yes it should be possible though i have not tried it myself. You basically export a file from mds ( xml) and import it into oracle db.

  • Native SQL to an external oracle database

    Hello experts,
I like to read some data from an external oracle database with native sql statements.
Which prerequisites are neccessary to do so?
In detail: which customizing must be performed?
Wich authorizations are necessary on the local SAP-system and on the oracle-site?
    Many thanks for your help!
             Best regards
                                Elmar

first, you need the SAP database library for Oracle. on Windows, filename is dboraslib.dll
then, you create a user ID on your external database
    then ,you configure table DBCON

  • Sql database management portal

Where is the ability to "MANAGE" your database through the portal without Visual Studio or SQL Server Management Studio?  Most of the documentation in the past reads that you can connect using https://sqldatabasename.database.windows.net but
this is not the case.  Has Microsoft remove the ability to use an online Management Portal in lieu of VSTS 2013 or SSMS?
    Andy

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn771027.aspx
To launch the Management Portal for SQL Database, click a database name and then click the Manage button
at the bottom of the page. If you are prompted to add the current IP address to a new firewall rule, click Yes.
If you are connecting to the portal from inside a corporate domain, you might have to add the IP address of your proxy server as
    well.
There is no "Manage" button any more.
I believe this feature has now been deprecated as it doesn't work in either Azure Portal or Azure Preview.
    Can you confirm?

  • Connecting to an external MS SQL Database

    Hi there,
we are a SaaS business currently running all of our applications on Azure. We now have a few customers in Switzerland and in order to comply with their IT and privacy laws, we have to run the database within Switzerland. Now we can easily get a hosting for
a MS SQL Database in Switzerland but my question is if it's somehow possible to connect a Windows Azure Website and Web Service to a MS SQL DB outside of Azure? I am aware that the performance will not be the best but I first would like to try to showcase
    the scenario. Any ideas?

you can have a look at the Azure Hybrid Connect (http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/web-sites-hybrid-connection-connect-on-premises-sql-server/)

  • Changes in resource name in Monitor Matrix for SQL Database @ Azure portal

    hi
Exact 4 months after starting of new SQL database tier, Resource Matrix changed.
    old names :
    CPU percentage
    Log Write percentage
    Physical Data Read percentage
    new names are:
    CPU
    LogIO
    DataIO
My question is they are equal :
CPU percentage = CPU   (looks OK)
Log Write percentage = LogIO  (Log Writes means IN but IO means both (in and out))
Physical Data Read percentage = DataIO  (Read means OUT but IO means both (in and out))
If they are different then what is change ?

    Hi,
    We use the
sys.resource_stats catalog view to monitor the resource usage of your Azure SQL Database and compare current resource utilization to different performance levels . The CPU Percentage, Physical Data Reads percentage, Log Writes Percentage show the average
utilization percentage relative to the DTU of your database. For more information, see:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn369873.aspx
And now, we upgrade the monitor metrics name for CPU and IO activity of SQL Azure database. If you add the metrics of Data IO or Log IO individually in Monitor Page, it will show the same name with Physical Data Reads percentage and Log Writes Percentage,
you can refer to the following screenshot.
After I adding the Data IO, it will show as Physical Data Reads percentage in Monitor Page.

How to resolve this issue. As it was mentioned in few forum we need to download the dbsl library from kernel patches and to load in kernel path. As my  db is DB2  can  we download dbmssslib.so this library and load in kernel file? Is it will work?
    Regards,
    Rai

    Hi Rai,
This error indicates that the ABAP stack could not find the SAP DBSL for SQL Server (dbmssslib.dll) in the kernel directory. If you encounter this error on a Unix - based server the root cause is clear: the DBSL does not exist for other platforms than Windows or Linux x84_64. In this case use a Windows-based or a Linux x86_64-based SAP Application Server to establish the connection. If your system does not contain a Windows-based or a Linux x86_64-based Application Server you need to setup a small one as workaround. If you encounter this error on a Windows Application Server or a Linux x86_64 based Application Server make sure that the DBSL is properly installed in the kernel directory as explained in the document below.
For more details on configuration and troubleshooting refer to below SCN document

  • Advise on SQL database process

    Dear all,
We have build our own product CMS platform configuration which is running on SQL server and CMS web site link to it.
We will lauch our product soon but need to identify the correct hosting plan for not having any further issue.
For exemple for now all is hosted in our company azure account with a Standard Basic 5 DTU's.
When we go in production we can expect some connection and big amount of data on our database.
My question are as follow :
    - Does using a single database storage for my potential Customers would be enough ?
    - How should I plan backup efficiently ?
    - Should I plan a safety replication process somewhere in azure or duplicate the storage in order to switch in case of lack of place ?
My concern is to avoid my database beeing full while customers increase
Thanks for your advise and help
    regards
    serge

    Hi Solatys,
    - If I select by default STANDARD Azure database, which size, DTU, etc should I select ?
For this question, you may reference the below link. You can scale your Azure database performance based on the real-time requirement.
    Azure
SQL Database introduces new near real-time performance metrics
    - If for instance the initial URL of the web portal connected to SQL server1 has a trouble, how can I switch users transparently to a second replicated server in order that user will notify anything ?
Azure SQL Database has a built-in high availability subsystem that protects your database from failures of individual servers and devices in a datacenter. Azure SQL
Database maintains multiple copies of all data in different physical nodes located across fully independent physical sub-systems to mitigate outages due to failures of individual server components, such as hard drives, network interface adapters, or even entire
servers. At any one time, three database replicas are running—one primary replica and two or more
secondary replicas. Data is written to the primary and one secondary replica using a quorum based commit scheme before the transaction is considered committed.
If the hardware fails on the primary replica, Azure SQL Database detects the failure and fails over to the secondary replica. In case of a physical loss of a replica, a new replica is automatically created.
So there are always at minimum two physical, transactionally consistent copies of your data in the datacenter.
    Azure SQL Database Business Continuity
    - IF I select the Maximum size of the database, what will happen in case it will be nearly full and need to provide more space ?
Insert and update transactions that exceed the upper limit will be rejected because the database will be in read-only mode. The maximum size has been gained from 50GB to 500GB as of now, you may have no concern about it. You can
    set a monitoring alertto
notify the storage utilization and CPU percentage etc.
If you have any question, feel free to let me know.

    public class SchContext : DbContext
    public SchContext(string connection):base(connection)
    public DbSet<Student> Students { get; set; }
    public DbSet<School> Schools { get; set; }
I suggest  you check your SQL connection, after run your code, please refresh azure portal to see whether your database is exist. Hope this give you some help.

  • Can No Longer Connect to Azure SQL Databases

As of this morning, I am no longer to connect to any of my Azure SQL databases by any (apparent) means. I checked the configuration in the azure portal and my IP address is listed as an allowed IP, however:
I am unable to connect via SQL Server Management Studio
My request times out when attempting to visit https://{server_name}.database.windows.net
    What might have caused this?

    Hi ,
    Thanks for posting here.
To resolve the issue you can try the following steps (in that order):
Check the application’s connection string to make sure that it is correctly configured. For example, make sure that the connection string specifies the correct port
(1433) and the fully qualified server name.
Note You can follow these steps to obtain the connection string from the Azure Management Portal:
                          Log on to the
    Azure Management Portal.
In the left navigation pane, click
    SQL Databases.
Select your Azure SQL Database server.
                          Click
    Dashboard.
On the right side, go to the
quick glance section, and then click Show connection strings.
Make sure that TCP IP is enabled as a client protocol on the application server. For more information on how to do this, see
Configure client protocols. On application servers where you do not have SQL Server tools installed, you can check this by running cliconfg.exe (SQL Server Client Network Utility).
Test the connectivity between the application server and the Azure SQL database by using a UDL file, ping, and telnet. For more information about how to do this,
    see
Azure SQL Database connectivity troubleshooting guide and
    Troubleshooting SQL Server connectivity issues.
Note As a troubleshooting step, you can also try to test the connectivity on a different client computer.
                    Try increasing the connection
timeout. Microsoft recommends using a connection timeout of at least 30 seconds.
As a best practice ensure retry logic is in place. For more information about the retry logic, see
Azure SQL Database best practices to prevent request denials or connection termination.
If the previous steps do not resolve your problem, follow these steps to collect more data and contact support:
If your application is a cloud service, enable the logging. This step returns a UTC time stamp of the failure. Additionally, SQL Azure returns the tracing
    ID.
Microsoft Customer Support Services can use this information.
For more information about how to enable the logging, see
how to enable diagnostic logging for Azure Web sites and Developing SQL Database Applications section in
    Azure SQL Database Development Considerations.
Please write back with the exact Error message/ Error Code if this doesn't help.

    Shirisha Paderu.

  • 64 bit SAP to 32 bit External Oracle Database connectivity failing

    Dear All,
We are trying to connect to an external Oracle database thru DBCON method. We are able to connect to Oracle server from our IDES server which is a 32 bit server, but when we are trying to connect our development server which is a 64 bit server, the connectivity is failing.
we copied the correct 64 bit *.lib file to the SAP server but still same result. We are getting the error message - Work Process restarted. Session terminated.
the Oracle server we are trying to connect is 32 bit, can this create some problem ?
kindly any one help us in this reagrd.
    thanks in advance,

    Hi Eric,
thanks for the advice but I am a bit confused as where to execute that sqlplus command/query ?
in the Oracle server or from SAP and what does system/password@DEV means ??
can you elaborate on this please.
here i would like to add that we have connected to the external Oracle server using linked server approach of MS SQL (our SAP default database) and so our connectivity is happening till SQL level i.e. I am able to connect to the Oracle and query it using OpenQuery syntax. the problem is appearing when I am trying to connect from the ABAP level.
kindly suggest as to what can be the solution of this issue.
    thanks
