Coordinate Systems with Java?

Hi,
my Question is, if Java provides an easy realization of creating coordiante systems?
I need to write a Tool that reads Information from a Database an displays parameters in a coordinate system.
Is Java a good choice for that?
Thx
Naggi

I don't quite get what you mean by coordinate systems, but I assume Java would be suitable for that sort of stuff.

    Hi all,
I want to develop one management application with Java and MySQL. However I am not sure which is a good way to design the system. The system has to deal with customers' data in the database.
Should I create objects for every customers when application starts so that I do not need to access to the database often? Or
Should I access to the database everytime the user want to deal with customer's data?

  • Interrogating your system with Java Applets

If a machine has several network adapters is it possible in a Java Applet to interrogate the machine and determine, which adapters are currently available and which one is currently being used, so the user can automatically select the prefered one.
I ask this question becuase we have a web application that is used by several mobile test engineers, who connect to the web application through one adapter while on site and another when they are in the office. These engineers want to be able to automatically select which adapter to use before the application starts i.e They want to implement some kind of pop up box in the application that lists the available network adapters on the machine and gives them the option to choose which one to use.
    Any help/ideas much appreciated.

If the standard Java API has a way, then yes, but possibly it would need to be a signed applet.
    Look at the java.net package...

  • Reverse the coordinate system for scripting

In the office, we're setting up a workflow using the illustrator coordinate system and coordinates from a database to generate graphics by means of (Java)scripting. On the other hand, we will be processing lots of pdf's, based on the same database-driven coordinates.
Now, with Illustrator (CS5.1) using a coordinate system with (0,0) on the top-left and pdf's having its zero at the bottom-left, things are getting unnessesarily complex. Is this Adobe's intention or just ill development?
Already numerous people complained about this coordinate-shift to the 4th quadrant... Why doesn't Adobe respond in a clear and uniform voice? What's up ahead with pdf coordinate system? Anymore surprises coming up?

this is a user to user forum, so don't expect any kind of answer from Adobe, the change was intentional and it won't be changed back (it seems). In order to get your objects where you want them, you'll have to do the math yourself...one more thing that might help you get what you need...if your script create new documents, the origin is at bottom left, if your script works on existing documents, the origin is at top left.

  • User defined coordinate system

    Hi,
I'm trying to create a new user defined coordinate system on Oracle 10.2.
This coordinate system is a local one. But I would transform between this local one and Gauss-Krueger Zone 2 (EPSG:31466). For this I have the information for the affine transformation (local --> EPSG:31466 and reverse, too).
How can I create a projected coordinate system with these information?
Has anybody an idea or has had a similar problem?

What our man here is looking for is a solution for two
users to kind of surf the net "in tandem" - when one
user navigates to a different web page, so does the
    other user,
These are typically used in call center applications
where the advisor guides a caller through , say
filling in an insurance form or pointing him to the
    right product specification pages.
Xing, why are you using Java for this ? You need
something that has better windows integration. If you
look on MSDN.microsoft.com and search for "explorer

There are also commercial products on the market that

  • I have a problem with Java and an e-procurement system integrating

I use an e-procurement system at work and yesterday I could not get my parts list from the suppliers web site to display in our in-house eprocurment finance package.
There is not a problem with the finance package. There is not a problem with the suppliers web site. I have verified both of these by other colleagues being able to complete what I am trying to do.
The difference between my version of Firefox and my colleagues' is that I am on version 6.0.1 and they are on 6.0.
I have had problems with Java not displaying certain animations on the suppliers web site but, my colleague does not and I am suspicious that this is the problem. Can anyone verify this please and what can I do about it. My Java updates are up-to-date as of yesterday and are automatic.
    Thanks.

I was quite amazed I never got a reply to this, in the past people here have been helpful. In any case I was finally able to enter this website on the exceptions list in the Java panel, and I believe it is okay  now.

  • Problem with Java after System Upgrade to 10.5.7

    Hi,
I am facing problem with Java after having run Software upgrades.
Here is the whole story. I recently moved to iMac 10.5.6 from PowerPc 10.4. On this new machine I was having problem running a 3rd party application, which requires JVM. As this application worked well on Tiger, I decided to upgrade JVM on my iMAC using Software Upgrade(was I insane!!). As I like my systems to be updated (as with linux on my personal machine) I clicked "install all". As a result I have the following upgrades run on my machine:

    Hi man,
In the wake of this java problem I resorted to keep working on my old machine, and today in my spare time I tried to fix this new machine.
So I execute $java on prompt, and then try to check the files it has opened, using lsof -p pid
    I see it referring to
    /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Home/bin/java
    isn't this usually the JAVA_HOME
    However, executing $/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Home/bin/java
    hangs!!
    but
    $/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6.0/Home/bin/java
    works!!
    $ pwd
    /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6/Home/bin
    $ ./java -version
    java version "1.6.0_07"

  • How to cooperate the current mail system with Sun Java Commnication Suite 5

    Dear all and Shane,
Excuse me for bothering you again.
Due to time limited, I would like to know how to cooperate the current mail system with Sun Java Commnication Suite 5. I mean I would like to use current mail system (mailscanner + postfix + courier-IMAP + clamav + spamassassin + webmail) and use the outlook connector to connect to Sun Java COMMS 5 to share the calendar, contacts only.
Right now I have done the testing by using outlook, mac mail, thunderbird to share calendar, contacts via Sun Java COMMS 5 in Centos Linux 5.
    My plan is as following
    1. Sun Java Communication suites 5 server ( I called it comms5 ) will be in DMZ zone and will open the necessary ports in firewall.
    2. I will create more than six sub domain name in Sun Delegate server and the necessary accounts within these domain names.
    3. All messages will be transmitted via Postfix and clients will retrieve from Courier-IMAP
    4. All Clients included other branch offices will use different mail clients to share their calendars, contacts via COMMS5 ( But how will COMMS handle the messages such like invitation ? )
    Any suggestions will appreciate.
PS: Is it possible to classify the contacts in outlook address book ?
For example, when user click the receiver, it will show like as following
    GLOBAL ADDRESS BOOK
    --Director
    --and so on
    ----CN.BRANCH OFFICE
    -----------CN01 EMAIL ADDRESS
    -----------CN02 EMAIL ADDRESS
    -----------CN03 EMAIL ADDRESS
    and so on
    ----JP.BRANCH OFFICE
    -----------JP01 EMAIL ADDRESS
    -----------JP02 EMAIL ADDRESS
    -----------JP03 EMAIL ADDRESS
    and so on
    ----TW.BRANCH OFFICE
and Due to the user account is located in CN.BRANCH OFFICE, it will extend the CN.BRANCH OFFICE contacts level.
Excuse me for bad English, hope you can understand it.
    Best Regards,
    Bruce

Also the use of Outlook Connector with a non-Sun IMAP backend isn't supported, nor is the use of a non-Sun IMAP backend possible with UWC.
Right now I have done the testing by using outlook, mac mail, thunderbird to share calendar, contacts via Sun Java COMMS 5 in Centos Linux 5. Once again I should remind you that CentOS is not a supported platform for comm-suite-5

  • Problem with transforming coordinate systems

    Hiho,
i've got a problem with transforming coordinate systems.
When I'm trying to transform a sdo_geometry object to another coordinate sytem and then back to the old system, the coordinates are not the same.
    Here's an example:
StartSystem SRID is 8220 (Longitude / Latitude (DHDN))
TargetSystem SRID is 8307 (Longitude / Latitude (WGS84))
    Original object:
    Polygon: {ExteriorRing: LineString: { (0.0, -90.0) (1.5, 0.0) (0.0, 90.0) (4.5, 0.0) (0.0, -90.0)} }
    Transformed object:
    Polygon: {ExteriorRing: LineString: { (0.0, -5156.620156177403) (85.94366926962347, 0.0) (0.0, 5156.620156177403) (257.8310078088704, 0.0) (0.0, -5156.620156177403)} }
    Transformed back to old system:
    Polygon: {ExteriorRing: LineString: { (0.0, -5156.620156177403) (4924.209525017614, 0.0) (0.0, 5156.620156177403) (14772.628575052844, 0.0) (0.0, -5156.620156177403)} }
    Any ideas what to do?
Thanks for the help in advance.
    Dirk

    Hi Dirk
Since the transform you are trying to do is just a datum conversion of lat./long. coordinates, even the first transform yields obvious rubbish. What you have provided here does not illustrate how you submitted your polygon to CS_TRANSFORM.
Provide the syntax of your construction of the corresponding SDO_GEOMETRY object and your SQL select statement that gave these results.

  • Select data with SDO_RELATE in lat long coordinate system(8307) in 10gR2

    Hi all,
I have problem with selecting data from table.
Data are in lat lon coordinate system 8307.
These requests don't return any data:
    SELECT ISSUE_ID FROM MAP_ISSUES WHERE SDO_FILTER(GEOMETRY, sdo_geometry (2003, 8307, null, sdo_elem_info_array (1,1003,1),sdo_ordinate_array(-180,-90, 180,-90, 180,90, -180,90, -180,-90)) ) = 'TRUE';
    SELECT ISSUE_ID FROM MAP_ISSUES WHERE SDO_RELATE(GEOMETRY, sdo_geometry (2003, 8307, null, sdo_elem_info_array (1,1003,1),sdo_ordinate_array(-180,-90, 180,-90, 180,90, -180,90, -180,-90)), 'MASK=ANYINTERACT' ) = 'TRUE'
Optimized polygon does return all data correctly:
    SELECT ISSUE_ID FROM MAP_ISSUES WHERE SDO_FILTER(GEOMETRY, sdo_geometry (2003, 8307, null, sdo_elem_info_array (1,1003,3),sdo_ordinate_array (-180,-90,180,90)) ) = 'TRUE'
Smaller polygon select data correctly too.
    SELECT ISSUE_ID FROM MAP_ISSUES WHERE SDO_FILTER(GEOMETRY, sdo_geometry (2003, 8307, null, sdo_elem_info_array (1,1003,1),sdo_ordinate_array (52,-7, 54,-7 , 54,-5 , 52,-5, 52,-7)) ) = 'TRUE'
I have tried changed polygon to be clockwise, counter clockwise, make the area a bit smaller( 160 instead of 180, 89 instead of 90) nothing has helped.
My explanation than was, that Earth is sphere and each defined polygon defines TWO polygons in the sphere and there is convention that the smaller is chosen to select data. It would make sense along the previous results, but than I found one post which says that this is bug http://www.frontoracle.com/oracle-database/703/180703-size-of-are-of-interest-smaller-equals.html
I have found in other thread that max only 1/2 of Earth could be selected Different results using SDO_RELATE with polygon and rectangle type but it seems not true, because optimized bounding box works fine!
What is right? Is there anything in official documentation?
    Is it bug.
Max 1/2 of Earth could be selected in one request.
Each polygon defines two areas in the Earth and the smaller one is used to do spatial SDO_RELATE operation?
    Thanks!
    Regards,
    Zdenek

    Zdenek,
A bug, or limititation, whichever you choose. IMHO if you ask for something, and don't get what you expect, it is a bug that could be fixed.
But for 10g anywho, the following applies, which is why I choose 120 degree breaks for my code as it is less than 180...
The following size limits apply with geodetic data:
    ■ No polygon element can have an area larger than one-half the surface of the Earth.
    ■ In a line, the distance between two adjacent coordinates cannot be greater than or
equal to one-half the perimeter (a great circle) of the Earth.
If you need to work with larger elements, first break these elements into multiple
smaller elements and work with them. For example, you cannot create a geometry
representing the entire ocean surface of the Earth; however, you can create multiple
geometries, each representing part of the overall ocean surface. To work with a line
string that is greater than or equal to one-half the perimeter of the Earth, you can add
one or more intermediate points on the line so that all adjacent coordinates are less
than one-half the perimeter of the Earth.

  • Registering ABAP system with SLD Web AS JAVA

    Hello,
I'm trying to register an ABAP only system with an SLD that resides on a JAVA-only system. When registering the ABAP system in RZ70, I enter the gateway host of the JAVA-only system and the gateway service as "sapgw<instance>". However, when looking at the java-only system, I don't see that the gateway is even running.
The JAVA only system is running on Windows 2008.
    A couple questions:
    1) Is "sapgw<instance>" the gateway service on a java-only system?
    2) If the gateway is running, does it show in the services or in the SAP MMC?
    3) I've tried starting the gateway manually using "gwrd -force pf=<start profile>" and the dev_rd log says"***LOG S00=> GwInitReader, gateway started ( 2980) [gwxxrd.c     1757]

Is this the right way to start the gateway?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dale Dingmann

    Hi Dale,
could you please tell us which Release your AS Java is? I have an AS Java 7.01(UsageType EP) on an AIX machine with a local SLD to which an AS ABAP 7.01 should register. I am not sure whether I can use the solution mentioned above or whether I have to install a standalone gateway.
System Landscape Directory Planning Guide (March 2010, page 43) quotes quite a similar solution but without Information concerning the release. This information also belongs to a standalone SLD. The last three scentences of SAP Note 1057720 quotes that for releases up to and including Release 7.0 one has to install a standalone gateway. In higher releases however "the SCS of the AS Java installs an RFC gateway and configures it as the default in the SLD". Is AS Java 7.01 a higher release than 7.00 and how can I check wheter there is an installed Gateway on SCS instance or not?
    Can someone clarify that point?
    Best Regards

  • Need ruling on screen coordinate system to use with AWTVideoSizeControl...

    Hi -
I’m working on a tru2way application and a nagging question keeps popping up with stack vendors on the usage of the AWTVideoSizeControl interface. I was hoping you could provide a definitive answer (note that Bill Foote is the author of the interface spec).
In short…my reading of the javadocs for AWTVideoSizeControl is that all values passed to and received from it are to be expressed in the graphics plane coordinate system. Stack vendors don’t always agree.
Periodically, I run into a stack vendor who expects AWTVideoSize (as passed to AWTVideoSizeControl.setSize) to be expressed in video plane coordinates – I’ve so far been able to convince these folks that the spec requires graphics coordinates. I’ve just run into an interesting situation, though, where although the vendor agrees that AWTVideoSize should be in graphics coordinates, they’re feeling that the Dimension returned from AWTVideoSizeControl.getSourceVideoSize() should be based on the video plane coordinate system. Their thinking is that while ‘x’ and ‘y’ are coordinates (and therefore are called out as needing to be expressed relative to the graphics screen), ‘height’ and ‘width’ aren’t.
Perhaps I’m wrong, but that seems incorrect. I would expect the Dimension height and width to be relative to the graphics screen as well.
I’d appreciate it greatly if you could provide a ruling on this that I could take back to them (and others).
    Thanks.

You would have to check with the manufacture of your system to see if they have an app available in the Apple App store to access their system. Since you do not indicate the system name or other information, you would need to also search the app store based on the answer the manufacturer provides for you. No one here would be able to guess at what you have.

This will work IF Acrobat is installed, AND is installed as a plugin to the browser, but that's a reasonable assumption if you're presenting PDF files in the first place.
I wouldn't personally be inclined to try to do this with an applet (JSPs + Servlets would be the way to go in my opinion), but it may be possible to redirect the page from an applet...?
