Copying data to another database after little transformation

Hi,
Is there any better pattern for
copying data from one database to another database after some little transformation(can be simple SQL join).
I see couple of options like..
1. Using materialized views
2. Writing a simple procedure to do copy and transformation.
3. Using a pure ETL tool.
Is there any other simple and secure way of doing this ?

A couple of questions
1) Are you copying from an Oracle database to another
Oracle database? Or are there non-Oracle databases
involved?I am copying from Oracle to Oracle.
2) Are there just two databases? Or more?Only two.
3) Are you copying all the data from one database to
another? Or are you copying just a subset of data?I just need to copy a subset(can get using SQL join) of data
4) How frequently does the data need to be copied?exactly 500 times, but at different intervals..
How soon after the data changes in the source system
m does in need to be changed in the destination
system?the copying process has to be triggered based on some data in source database.
5) Is the data flowing in only one direction?Yes
6) Is there some drawback to the three options you've
outlined that you're trying to avoid? If one of
these options meets all your requirements, I'd assume
that you wouldn't bother posting a question. That
implies to me that there is some unstated requirement
that you're trying to meet...I just want to know, whether there is any standard(typical) way to do this.

Select data from another database

Hi,
Is it possible to retrieve data from a table from another database?
For instance, I have two databases db_1 and db_2
I login to the database db_1 using
sqlplus username/psw@db1
and to the database db_2 using
sqlplus username/psw@db2
In SQL> db1 I would like to use select statement from a table in the db2. Is it possible?
Another question:
I have two tablespaces TP1 and TP2 in the database db1
The TP1 is my default tablespace.
Can I switch from TP1 to TP2 tablespace in the sqlplus?
If not, how can I select all tables obtained in the TP2? Or how can I select data from a table in the TP2?

I don't know how to create a db link.

There are some examples in the doc above. 
 
What about if db1 and db2 have the same table name? No problem, exactly like when you have two same table name accross two schemas on same database. The table suffixed by the dblink name come from the other schema of other database (schema which you use to connect through the dblink to the other database).

Reading data from another database

Hi Folks!
I need to read some data from another non-sap system database to validate something in R/3. Does this is possible. If it is possible how could this be achieved?

There are a couple of ways to do this. One, you can create an executable on the other non-sap system that you can call from SAP as a system command. So let us say you write a unix script that takes a value as input and returns a flag as output. Within the script you will check that value against this non-sap database. In SAP, you will create a system command in SM69 and then execute it in your program via function module SXPG_COMMAND_EXECUTE.
Alternatively, you can use the RFC route but you need to setup RFC connection between the two systems.
You can also bring this validation table into SAP as a one time or periodically updated table and then do the validations within SAP.

I have to database one on sybase and the other on oracle ,them have the same tables i need to copy the data in the table of sybase to the tables in oracle

I setup the getway already but after this the oracle client didnt connect to any thing even the oracle server which was conneted succesfully before setup the getway

You should be able to copy files from Win 2003 to Win 7, assuming both are identical 32-bit or 64-bit versions.
More importantly, are the two database versions exactly identical (down to the same patchset and patches being applied to both HOMEs) ?

How to retrieve data from the Database after deleting rows from VO ?

I am using Jdeveloper 11.1.2.1.0
I have a master and a child .
So according my use case when a value in the master vo changes the corresponding child has to be deleted.
but when i change back to any other value i want to undo the delete operation and get back the values in the child.
Is there any way to do it?

Hi all,
I want to do a validation based on a SelectOneChoice List Value.
Based on which value in the select one choice is being selected, thedata from the VO should be DELETED or NOT-DELETED.
To do this I wrote a Managed Bean and the delete part is working fine if a particular value of the SelectOneChoice is selected.
Since the rows are deleted from the VO, after I change the SelectOneChoice value to the previous one I cannot retrieve the rows.
I thought of two ways:
1. As the Deleting option in the SelectOneChoice is selected the rows should be deleted from the VO and when reverted back to not-Deleting option the Rollback of Transaction method written in the Managed Bean should take place.
2. As the Deleting option is selected the data should be deleted from the VO and when reverted back to non-Deleting option, a query should be made from the Database.
The first plan was dropped because it is not VO-specific. If there are more than 1 VO in the page then whatever changes are made in the page will be reverted back as soon ad Rollback of transaction is done.
So the now i am left to go with the second plan.
Is there any way to implement the second plan?
If so...Will it compromise the performance of the application?
Or else, Is there any other way to implement my Use-Case ???

Formula to trim off data from another cell after

Wonder if anyone can help. Ive got some address columns im editing in Numbers. Unfortunately,( common problem I know!), not all the date in the cells are uniform. For example: E2 may have '123 Alphabet Street', whereas E3 might have '123 Alphabet Street, London'. Im trying to write a quick formula where I can trim off any data after the ',' into another column called Town.
Im going to continue to scroll through this forum to see if this has been dealt with before, and look on Iwork Help. But in the meantime.. if anyone could give me a pointer that would be ace.

You'll need two columns, one for each part of the split.
Original data in column B, Street address in column C, City in column D
C: =IFERROR(LEFT(B,FIND(", ",B)-1),B)

How to get the right format if I copy data off another source....

I have a data source that I want to copy to Numbers and it posts it all in the first row, when I paste it. (Excel will automatically format it correctly). I've tried a number of different things and can't figure out how to get the data to post across the page. Can Numbers even do this?

Could you possibly have the insertion cursor blinking in the cell rather than just having a cell selected?
If the cursor is blinking in the cell, Numbers "thinks" you want to paste all of the content in that one cell. By just selecting the cell, the data will be separated if Numbers "sees" the separations. This used to be a problem, particularly with data copied from a web page in Safari, but is mostly fixed in Numbers '09.

Copying data from other database

I'm trying to create Job Schedule, which involve 2 diff database (Oracle & Visual Foxpro). But when i create database link, and try VF connection i got this error ORA-06401: NETCMN : invalid driver designator.
PS: I already create connection VF thru ODBC, its work fine if im using SQLPlus and connect directly. only error if using database link, any suggestion?

Anyway already found a solution: I was allocating even xref member of a dense dimension (BaseProy), the change I made was to assign the xref a member of a sparse dimension (Ajustada) and add instructions SET CREATENONMISSINGBLK
and works without problem.

How to copy data from one BB to another via Desktop Manager

I've got two BBs (8900 and 9300), both actively in use and with different data (contacts, memos, etc.) on them.
I need to copy my tasks, memos and contacts from 8900 to 9300. I tried "switch phones" option, but it substitutes data, while I need to syncronize it, so that data from 8900 is added to what is currently is on the 9300.
Is it possible to do it via Desktop Manager? It seems there was somewhere an option "copy data from another BB", but I can't find it in the latest Desktop Manager version.

You would need to use Desktop Mangaer to sync BB1 with a local PIM program (such as Outlook or Lotus Notes) to get the information off BB1. Then use Desktop Manager to sync BB2 with the same PIM program.

Unable to copy table in same Database

I m using jdbc:odbc bridge to connect to MS access database. i am trying to create a table by copying data from another table in same database. the code is
Statement stmt = mycon.createStatement();
String query = "create table " + temp1 + " as select * from " + temp2;
stmt.executeUpdate(query);
But java is throwing exception as:
java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Acces Driver] Syntax error in
CREATE TABLE statement.
Simple create and select are working fine. Is there something like MS Access doesnt support such queries?

Hi Viney_yadav,
First a general suggestion: The error message you got states that is a SQL syntax error. This tells you that you should try running the SQL that is failing directly through Access and correct the syntax problem there. That will help you verify the SQL syntax and avoid any complications related to Java.
And now some specific help (cut/paste from a previous life): Different DBMS's handle the SELECT INTO... differently. SELECT INTO... in Microsoft Access actually creates a new table. If the table already exists (in Access) then you would use the INSERT INTO..SELECT... statement.
EXAMPLE to create and populate a new table in Access (sorry didn't test this):
select temp2.* into temp1 from temp2
