Reporting data in another database
Is there in any mechanism to store reporting data in a database (Single table) using OBIEE without any customization ?
Hi 981222,
have you checked WriteBack functionality?
Have a look on it (Configuring and Managing Analyses and Dashboards - 11g Release 1 (11.1.1))

Copying data to another database after little transformation
Hi,
Is there any better pattern for
copying data from one database to another database after some little transformation(can be simple SQL join).
I see couple of options like..
1. Using materialized views
2. Writing a simple procedure to do copy and transformation.
3. Using a pure ETL tool.
Is there any other simple and secure way of doing this ?
Thanks in advance,
Vijay.

user487780Hi Justin,
A couple of questions
1) Are you copying from an Oracle database to another
Oracle database? Or are there non-Oracle databases
involved?I am copying from Oracle to Oracle.
2) Are there just two databases? Or more?Only two.
3) Are you copying all the data from one database to
another? Or are you copying just a subset of data?I just need to copy a subset(can get using SQL join) of data
4) How frequently does the data need to be copied?exactly 500 times, but at different intervals..
How soon after the data changes in the source system
m does in need to be changed in the destination
system?the copying process has to be triggered based on some data in source database.
5) Is the data flowing in only one direction?Yes
6) Is there some drawback to the three options you've
outlined that you're trying to avoid? If one of
these options meets all your requirements, I'd assume
that you wouldn't bother posting a question. That
implies to me that there is some unstated requirement
that you're trying to meet...I just want to know, whether there is any standard(typical) way to do this.
Thanks,
Vijay.

Select data from another database
Hi,
Is it possible to retrieve data from a table from another database?
For instance, I have two databases db_1 and db_2
I login to the database db_1 using
sqlplus username/psw@db1
and to the database db_2 using
sqlplus username/psw@db2
In SQL> db1 I would like to use select statement from a table in the db2. Is it possible?
Another question:
I have two tablespaces TP1 and TP2 in the database db1
The TP1 is my default tablespace.
Can I switch from TP1 to TP2 tablespace in the sqlplus?
If not, how can I select all tables obtained in the TP2? Or how can I select data from a table in the TP2?
ThanksI don't know how to create a db link.
SQL Reference Guide - CREATE DATABASE LINK
There are some examples in the doc above.

What about if db1 and db2 have the same table name?
No problem, exactly like when you have two same table name accross two schemas on same database. The table suffixed by the dblink name come from the other schema of other database (schema which you use to connect through the dblink to the other database).
Reading data from another database
Hi Folks!
I need to read some data from another non-sap system database to validate something in R/3. Does this is possible. If it is possible how could this be achieved?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards,
Gilberto LiThere are a couple of ways to do this. One, you can create an executable on the other non-sap system that you can call from SAP as a system command. So let us say you write a unix script that takes a value as input and returns a flag as output. Within the script you will check that value against this non-sap database. In SAP, you will create a system command in SM69 and then execute it in your program via function module SXPG_COMMAND_EXECUTE.
Alternatively, you can use the RFC route but you need to setup RFC connection between the two systems.
You can also bring this validation table into SAP as a one time or periodically updated table and then do the validations within SAP. -

Running reports stored in the database
Hi guys,
Is it possible to have Reports 6i produce reports that are
stored in the database? Looking at the documentation, it would
appear the report definition files (RDF) must be stored in the
filesystem. I don't really want to be handing out filesystem
access (managing and it) to people - is there a way around this?
Thanks,

Hi,
Would anyone have any recommendations regrading running reports based on the data stored in an oracle database. We will soon go live with a project using an oracle DB. We do not wish to run reports directly from the production DB as it will impact performance. Have you actually measured the impact? If not, you are just making assumptions that -- lacking any other informatin -- appear to be invalid.
Is there any recommended method/architecture for reporting suggested by oracle for this type of scenario?
You make it sound like some unusual scenario. What you've described so far (running reports against an OLTP database) is just bread and butter operations for Oracle.
One idea is too runs some scripts that will write the data to another database and from there we will runs out reporting queries. Are there any other potential solutions?
And how does reading the data to insert into some other database cause less contention than reading data for a report?

Hi,
I need to transfer data from one database to another database (both are identical databases).
1. Not transferring identity columns (primary keys). the destination table might have the same key.
2. keep the PK's and FK's relation b/w parent and child table
3. I have 4 levels
Example: tableA (col1 int identity(1,1) , col2, col3)
tableB (col1 int identity(1,1) ,
col2 , col3) -- col2 has the foreign key relation with tableA.col1
tableC (col1 int identity(1,1) ,
col2, col3) -- col2 has the foreign key relation with tableB.col1
tableD (col1 int identity(1,1) , col2, col3) -- col2 has the foreign key relation with tableC.col1

Help on export Sybase iq 16 tables with data and import into another database ?
Hi Nilesh,
If you have table/index create commands (DDLs), you can create them in Developper and import data using one of methods below
Extract/ Load table
Insert location method : require IQ servers to be entered in interfaces file
Backup/Restore : copy entire database content
If you have not the DDLs, you can generate them using IQ cockpit or SCC.

How to update date in a table from another database
Hello,
I am trying to code a way to Update my Testing database from another database. In the coding below the database that has the updated data ends in Restore.
Use ClientDB_MASTER_Restore
Truncate Table ClientDB_MASTER_Testing.dbo.Activity_Tracking_AZ
GO
SELECT * INTO ClientDB_Master_Testing.dbo.Activity_Tracking_AZ
FROM Activity_Tracking_AZ
Go
I know with this Technique the table must be truncated if not deleted first. There is probably a better way to do this which I'm very open to. I'm also looking for coding that will roll back any changes made should an error occur.
As always, any help is greatly appreciated.
David92595USE ClientDB_MASTER_Testing
go
SET XACT_ABORT ON
BEGIN TRANSACTION
Truncate Table dbo.Activity_Tracking_AZ
-- SET IDENTITY_INSERT dbo.Activity_Tracking_AZ ON
INSERT dbo.Activity_Tracking_AZ (col1, col2, ...)
SELECT col1, col2,
FROM ClientDB_MASTER_Restore.dbo.Activity_Tracking_AZ
-- SET IDENTITY_INSERT dbo.Activity_Tracking_AZ OFF
COMMIT TRANSACTION
If you find it boring to type the column lists, just find the table in Object Explorer, and drag the columns node to where you want the column list.
You need the SET IDENTITY_INSERT command if the table has an IDENTITY column.
By wrapping the code in a transaction, you are not left with an empty table if the INSERT fails. The command SET XACT_ABORT ON makes sure that the batch is aborted and rolled back in case of an error.

CRVS2010 beta - Date field from database does not display in report
Hi there - can someone please help?!
I am getting a problem where a date field from the database does not display in the report viewer (It displays on my dev machine, but not on the client machines...details given below)
I upgraded to VS 2010
I am using the CRVS2010 Beta
My development machine is Windows 7 - and so is my fellow developer's
We are using Microsoft SQL Server 2000
We run the queries within VS and then we send the data table to VS using .SetDataSource
We have a few reports which display the date on our dev machines (whether we run the EXE or from within Visual Studio)
When we roll out to the client machines (running Windows XP SP3) then everything works, except that the date does not display (on quite a few reports)
This is the only real issue I have had - a show stopper for me
The rest works well - any input will be greatly appreciated

After much testing I have it all working now using CRDB_adoplus.dll as a data source ( XML )
Alter your Config file to look like this:
<startup useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy="true">
<supportedRuntime version="v4.0"/>
</startup>
Then using the code below, and CR requires the Schema to be able to read the date format.
private void SetToXML_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument rpt = new CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument();
ISCDReportClientDocument rcd;

DataTable dt1 = new DataTable("Orders");
oleAdapter.Fill(dt1);

How to move only subset of data from one database to another?
Both source & destination are Oracle11g databases.
The requirement details are as below,
1) The database contains static as well as transactional data for telecom domain.
2) We have to move region-wise data from one database to another.
3) There are around 10 regions.
4) The region wise data extraction from source db is based on around 40 to 50 tables. Rest of the tables contains
static data & it will not change.
5) The volume is around 1 million subscribers per region.
6) The migration is required because
a) The client is upgrading its base product which uses this database
b) There is a change in structure of static tables
c) Hardware upgrade
d) The client want to start with single region on new database & rest of the regions will be operated from old
database.
7) Keep execution time to very minimum.
I am thinking to have solution as below,
1) Create destination database with upgraded db structure (as mentioned in 6b)
2) Create database links to access source db in destination db.
3) Write SQL queries to fetch data from all the respective tables for a specific region
4) Write separate PL/SQL blocks for each table to fetch data from source db & insert into respective table in
destination db
a) Use FOR ALL & bulk collect to improve the performance
b) Divide table data into multiple chunks & execute parallel batches (around 10) to insert the data
5) Validate pre & post counts to verify the success of migration
Is there any other better way?
Regards,
SandeepHow to move only subset of data from a partiular table by using transportable tablespace?
E.g. SUB table using SMP_SUB tablespace contains subscriber data in source database.
The indexes defined on SUB table are under SMP_IDX_SUB tablespace
The subscribers data can be categorized by different regions, say region_id column. Then how to move data & indexes of SUB table from source db to destination db?
any specific example would be helpful. -
Data from different databases in the same report.
Hi Everyone,
I am trying to build a reconciliation report in which I need to show the data from the source and target, side by side.
Source and target are both different databases, although being oracle only
Whenever a new data model is created, it gets attached to a data source and in the report we need to choose a specific data model.
Can we have data from different databases in the same report ?Yes, it is possible.
One way Is to use dataTemplates. There you can make queries from any number of different databases (The max I have done is 5).
It looks something like that:
<dataTemplate name="NameOfTemplate">
<dataQuery>
<sqlStatement name="Q1" dataSourceRef="Connection1">
select * from table1
</sqlStatement>
<sqlStatement name="Q2" dataSourceRef="Connection2">
select * from table2
</sqlStatement>
</dataQuery>
<dataStructure>
<group name="RESULT1" source="Q1">
<element name="P_FIRST_NAME" value="P_FIRST_NAME"/>
</group>
<group name="RESULT2" source="Q2">
<element name="P_DATE" value="P_DATE"/>
</group>
</dataStructure>
</dataTemplate>dataStructure is very important when you get data from different places, if you don't define those elements, then only the result from Q1 is shown.
The second possible way is to make as two different data models, each containing their own query and then set Main Data Set as concatenated SQL Data Source.
Best of luck,

Different ways to Transfer data from one database to another database
Hi all,
What are the ways to transfer data from one database to another database. With the following options, i Can transfer data as far as i know. Please
correct me if i am wrong or tell me if there is any other options are available.
1) Create database link/connection string and using this string and COPY command, we can transfer data.
2) By using Export and Import utilities.
I told first one to my interviewer, he told, its strange, by using, COPY command also can we transfer data ? As far as i know, we can transfer data. Am i right ?
Thanks in advance,
Paltransfer data from one database to another database.You mean store the data of one to another?
1) Create database link/connection string and using this string and COPY command, we can transfer data.every SELECT on a DB-link is transfering data. And you can have all kind of transfers and store on the e.g CTAS of materialized views or.... the SQL*PLUS COPY :
The COPY command is not being enhanced to handle datatypes or features introduced with, or after Oracle8i. The COPY command is likely to be made obsolete in a future release.
But there are many others. Check for ORACLE Streams, and the "COPY" your interviewer was mentioning is about the operating file system COPY right? That's transportable tablespaces.
