  • No table names appear (only Stored Procs) when connected to SQLServer w/dbo

    Greetings,
    I'm using Crystal Reports 11, connecting to a databse on SQL Server 2005.
    I am on Windows 7. I also have the problem on Windows Server 2003
    Starting from a blank database, I create my connection through ODBC, and when I expand my database, all I get is a list of stored procedures, no tables.
    I have isolated this to whether I have dbo authority on this particular database or not.
    i.e. I have a user with dbo authority, and they see nothing but stored procedure names, I take dbo authority away, and they see tables, views, stored procs, all as would be expected.
    I have several other SQL Server databases that do not share this issue. Users with dbo authority can see tables as expected.
    I have compared the settings on the databases, and nothing appears to be different (the database with the issue is considerably larger, but I can't see where that would be an issue)
    I will probably also open this issue with Microsoft, to see what they say from their end
    If anyone has seen this before, or would have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. Seems very strange that giving MORE authority would be affecting what the user can see.

    Don
    Below are the results from the SQLCON program you suggested. It is returning Table info... (truncated most of it, as I assume it's not all that pertinent)

    I apologize for not answering your previous question, I think the SQL Driver Name will answer that? If not, let me know and I'll get you the information you're looking for. Thank you again for your time on this.

  • Form builder make an error in windows xp sp2 when connecting oracle xe

    i have installed the forms from developer 6i and tried to connect to
    oracle xe using form builder , the problem was that windows show an error and
    it says that an error has occur and we are sorry , do you want to send the message

    Hi Samer,
    sorry, but I haven't done any character set migration yet. Usually I have used exp/imp to move the data to a new database instance that was created with the new target character set. But with XE you only have the choice between WE8MSWIN1252 and AL32UTF8, you cannot easily create a new instance with a different character set.
    This should suffice for most applications. But you have a special case where you run into a problem with a product where you won't get any enhancements for anymore. Forms6i entered extended support on 01/2005.
    Perhaps someone else can help you out with the character set migration.
    Good luck,
    ~Dietmar.

    Yes, the network connection could not be established. Like the error said.
    What you're asking about is the exact reason, but that could be any number of things and not at all related to code. You could have the wrong host, the wrong port. A firewall could be blocking the outgoing connection, a firewall could be blocking the incoming connection. Etc. etc.

  • Exception:'NetworkAdapter fails'when connecting with oracle from web dynpro

    Hi,
    I am trying to run one of my application in SAP netweaver Studio(webdynpro).
    I want to connect to the oracle db on my local system.
    I wrote the code:
    Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
    Connection cn=DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:DSNname","UsrId","password");
    I am getting the following error in the connection statement
    Error:
    java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
    Oracle is 9.2.0.1.0  on windows XP platform.
    I can do an SQLPLUS and the connection is ok.
    I don't know were the problem is ?
    Can any body help me out.
    Thanks
    Smitha

    Hi,
    For the error "The Network Adapter could not establish the connection" check and do the following:
    In  the Computer Management - Services, check if the Oracle*TNSListener is started. If not, restart the listener  and set the Startup Type to "Automatic".
    Also check whether the port number in listener.ora is correct ($ORACLE_HOME\network\admin\listener.ora) and updated during the installation.
    For other details run through SAP Note 786673
    Hope this helps.
    Regards

  • ProC Batch Connect To Database Without Password Files

    Post Admin
    This post relates to ProC. I cannot locate ProC forum, this looks closest. If not please advise.
    Question
    We have batch ProC program that runs overnight on unix OS. Presently connects to database using userid/password read from file. Security are not happy with existence of file containing userid/password. I am looking for alternatives.
    An approach used for sqlplus scripts and export/import is to connect as / as sysdba. This means must be run by OS user who has sysdba power. Are there any other options so ProC can connect without user/password in program or file that is read when run? PS - We do not have time at present to port to plsql inside database and schedule from database for this job.
    The equivalent in ProC appears to be
    strcpy(uid_pwd.arr,"/ IN SYSDBA MODE");
    uid_pwd.len=strlen(uid_pwd.arr);
    EXEC SQL CONNECT :uid_pwd;
    But I receive
    ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied.
    Is my syntax okay?
    Update
    The syntax should be
    strcpy(uid_pwd.arr,"/");
    uid_pwd.len = strlen(uid_pwd.arr);
    EXEC SQL CONNECT :uid_pwd IN SYSDBA MODE;
    Apologies for inconvience

    But now we got one problem. When AX system start, it pop out the error message. In the event view the error is ORACLE error message "invalid username / password" the username is empty.
    I have checked with Microsoft engineer for the problem. He give me the suggestion is to use the windows authentication method without using username and password.
    So I want to know how to login database from client without username and password.log into DB as which DB user?

  • Unable to Connect Oracle 7 with Data Services 3.2

    Hi All,
    I am incredibly facing an issues with Oracle 7 connecting with Data Services 3.2. with Native client drivers (TNS Names).
    The client legacy application is on Oracle 7, they are moving the data from legacy to SAP ECC. My role is to transfer the data from Oracle 7 to SAP ECC, We are using Data Services 3.2 for conversion. This Data Services 3.2 is not connecting with Oracle 7 by using oracle native drivers (TNS Names).
    I am able to connect Oracle 8 client with SQL *Plus, but with Data Services its not connecting, I am able create Data Store but when try to import the table the error message I am getting like "ORA-24316: Illegal handle Type"
    Is there any other solution for this to connect, or Is Data Services 3.2 will not connect to Oracle 7 since its older version.
    Please reply with your thoughts, or with some solution.
    Appreciate your prompt reply. Many thanks.

    Hi Paul,
    Currently I am using ODBC connection to read the data from legacy Oracle7, but ODBC is very very slow, queries are taking hours to fetch the data. Is there any other solution by chance... I read that DataDirect is the one can connect to any versions of oracle and its bit faster, is that true. Please clarify me. If that is the solution where can I get this DataDirect drivers for oracle 7? Please advice me.
    Thank  You,
    Ashok

    I'm getting an error message when trying to install the Oracle Rdb Extension (7.3).
    I'm not sure if that extension has been upgraded for sql developer 4. Extensions written for previous versions won't work in sql developer 4 - they need to be modified to support the OSGI framework.
    Leave the thread open until one of the sql developer team members can answer this.
    Here is the note from the sql developer exchange home page
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/extensions-083825.html
    Special Note Regarding Extensions Developed Prior to SQL Developer
    v4.0:
    With the new release of SQL
    Developer 4.0, an extension that was written for a previous version of SQL
    Developer will no longer work. SQL Developer is built on the JDeveloper
    Framework. We have updated the framework to be current with the JDeveloper 12c
    release. With JDeveloper 11gR2, they switched to an OSGI framework. The JDeveloper team has published instructions for updating your extensions to be compatible with
    the new framework and SQL Developer v4.0.
    The Check for Updates interface
    has been updated to hide any 3rd party extensions to avoid confusion with
    extensions not loading. Once you have updated your extension for version 4 and
    beyond, let us know, and we'll update the system to make it available again. For
    questions regarding the process of going from the old to new framework, we have
    started a dedicated
    thread on the Forums. You can also email the Product Manager, Jeff Smith, to
    setup a call with one of our developers for additional assistance.
    As that note says if that extension is NOT for version 4 it shouldn't show up on the list of updates.

  • DBMS_SCHEDULER.run_chain() only works when connected to DB as sys

    Database Version: 10.2.0.4.0
    Hello,
    I have a problem with DBMS_SCHEDULER.run_chain where the Chain to be run references an external Program.
    The Chain runs correctly when run via SQLPLUS when you are connected to the database as SYS but fails to run when you are connected to the Database as the User who owns the Chain.
    The complete steps to recreate the problem are below. Any thoughts or suggestions gratefully received.
    Thanks,
    Andy
    STEP 1: Login with sys as sysdba and create a new user
    CREATE USER chaintest IDENTIFIED BY password PROFILE DEFAULT ACCOUNT UNLOCK;
    GRANT MGMT_USER TO chaintest;
    GRANT CONNECT TO chaintest;
    GRANT IMP_FULL_DATABASE TO chaintest;
    GRANT SCHEDULER_ADMIN TO chaintest;
    GRANT MANAGE SCHEDULER TO chaintest;
    GRANT EXECUTE ANY CLASS TO chaintest;
    GRANT CREATE ANY DIRECTORY TO chaintest;
    GRANT CREATE ANY JOB TO chaintest;
    GRANT CREATE TABLE TO chaintest;
    GRANT EXECUTE ANY PROGRAM TO chaintest;
    GRANT CREATE JOB TO chaintest;
    GRANT CREATE EXTERNAL JOB TO chaintest;
    STEP 2: Create a very simple batch file
    Create a folder called c:\chaintest and create a text file in there whose entire contents
    is "notepad.exe" followed by a carriage return. The idea is that if this batch file is
    called a notepad Window will be opened so we can clearly see if the batch file has run.
    STEP 3: Create a DBMS_SCHEDULER Program
    BEGIN
    DBMS_SCHEDULER.CREATE_PROGRAM (
    program_name => 'CHAINTEST.CHAINTEST_PROGRAM',
    program_type => 'EXECUTABLE',
    program_action => 'C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CMD.EXE /q /c c:\chaintest\chaintest.bat',
    number_of_arguments => 3,
    enabled => false);
    DBMS_SCHEDULER.define_program_argument(
    program_name =>'CHAINTEST.CHAINTEST_PROGRAM',
    argument_position => 1,
    argument_type => 'VARCHAR2',
    default_value => '/q');
    DBMS_SCHEDULER.define_program_argument(
    program_name =>'CHAINTEST.CHAINTEST_PROGRAM',
    argument_position => 2,
    argument_type => 'VARCHAR2',
    default_value => '/c');
    DBMS_SCHEDULER.define_program_argument(
    program_name =>'CHAINTEST.CHAINTEST_PROGRAM',
    argument_position => 3,
    argument_type => 'VARCHAR2',
    default_value => 'c:\chaintest\chaintest.bat');
    DBMS_SCHEDULER.enable('CHAINTEST.CHAINTEST_PROGRAM');
    END;
    STEP 4: Create a chain
    BEGIN
    DBMS_SCHEDULER.CREATE_CHAIN (chain_name => 'CHAINTEST.CHAINTEST_CHAIN');

    Observe that even though you receive the message "PL/SQL procedure successfully completed." and do
    not see any error messages that no Notepad Window is opened indicating that the Batch file was NOT run.
    BEGIN

    The Chain runs correctly when run via SQLPLUS when you are connected to the database as SYS but fails to run when you are connected to the Database as the User who owns the Chain.
    >
    Not true based on what you posted. The chain DOES RUN connected as SYS and when connected as the User who owns the chain.
    You posted steps that show that SYS is the user that owns the program and thus the chain.
    >
    STEP 1: Login with sys as sysdba and create a new user
    STEP 8: Run the Chain whilst still connected as sys and observe that a Notepad window opens
    confirming that the Batch file ran successfully.

    I don't see where you made any EXECUTE grant to user 'chaintest' that would allow that user to execute the program.
    See the Usage Notes in the CREATE PROGRAM section of DBMS_SCHEDULER in the Database PL/SQL Packages and Types Reference
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28419/d_sched.htm#CIHEHDHA

    For other users to use your programs, they must have EXECUTE privileges, therefore once a program has been created, you have to grant EXECUTE privileges on it.
    >
    Grant the EXECUTE privilege to user 'chaintest' and try it.

  • Ports Crystal Reports uses when Connecting to a Universe as a Data Source

    I have a couple of Crystal Reports that use universes as a data source.  On my Windows 7 machine I am getting an error message that "Logon Failed", rather opening and running the same report on my Windows XP machine, I get the results from the universe as expected.  I have tried multiple universes that report against different databases (Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, etc) and I am getting the same vague error message on my Windows 7 machine with Crystal Reports 12.3.0.601.
    Can someone please tell me what ports are being used within Crystal Reports (other than 6400) when connecting to the CMS and pulling back data from a universe?  The odd thing, is that I can connect to the CMS, see the universes that I have permissions too and even see the objects within the universe, but I cannot view the results.  This is a pretty high priority for us, so I would appreciate any feedback possible.

    Hello,
    "Seems contrary to the concept of isolating users (in this case designers) from connection details. I can only be hopeful that report users will not also have to have connections configured on the local workstations to view these reports ;-)"
    As long as you use/set Saved Data with the reports then they don't need the client installed. If they hit Refresh to update the data then obviously they need to be able to connect to the data source, how else are they going to get it.
    Think about it, you sit down to write a report off of a database you don't have access to? How are you going to create a report....
    If you planning on sending out reports for viewing only then export them to PDF or some other type, then DB connections are not an issue, the PDF's are for viewing only.
    Another concept is DB Security. Using NT Authentication or DB Authentication unless that user hitting the refresh button has access to the DB it won't prompt for log on info or if they don't provide the correct log on info they can't see new data.
    It's all about security, CR does not save the Password in the RPT file, if we did anyone could get it and hack your database.
    Not sure what your post has to do with Ports?
    If you have questions then please post, in this forum we assume post that are answered are closed.

  • I am getting "Fatal Error: null" when connection to P6v8.3.2 DB using P6 Integration API

    I am getting "Fatal Error: null" when connection to P6v8.3.2 DB using P6 Integration API.
    I can connect via P6 client using admin account but cannot connect using P6 API. If I provide invalid credentials it says that the credentials are incorrect. When correct credentials are provided, it comes up with the above error.
    Stacktrace is atteched.
    Please assist.
    Thanks
    Sunil

    Hi Sunil,
    In the absence of sample code it is difficult to identify the cause. If that is not possible, you can try logging SR with Oracle support.

  • Connect Oracle 11g (64-bit windows server) to Microsoft SQL Server 2000

    Hi all,
    I am trying to connect:
    Oracle 11g (64-bit windows server) to Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (32-bit) on a different machine.
    1) I have create an ODBC connection (called:GALAXY) which connects.
    2) created a init.ora called it initgalaxy.ora in $oracle_home\hs\admin
    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = GALAXY
    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = on
    3) modified the listener.ora file as below
    # listener.ora Network Configuration File: E:\Ora11g\product\11.1.0\db_1\network\admin\listener.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    LISTENER =

    (PROGRAM = EXTPROC)
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = E:\Ora11g\product\11.1.0\db_1)
    4) modified the tnsnames.ora file is as follows
    GALAXY =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = BIU01.kingsch.nhs.uk)(PORT = 1521))

    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = HEX)
    5) restarted the listener
    6) created a public database connect
    create PUBLIC DATABASE LINK "GALAXY" CONNECT TO "USER" IDENTIFIED by "PWD" USING 'galaxy';

    11.2 is beta at the moment. There is no official release date so far.
    As DG4ODBC is independant from the Oracle database (or the target database) you can use a 3 machine model:
    On the first machine you have your Oracle database, on a second machine running 32bit Windows you can install DG4ODBC and on the 3rd machine you can run your foreign database.
    If the SQL Server 2k is installed on a 32bit Windows machine, then you can also install DG4ODBC on this machine.
    In general the connection from an Oracle database to the DG4ODBC machine is done using SDQL*Net. The listener responsible for DG4ODBC will then load the DG4ODBC executable which will connect to the SQL Server using SQL Server ODBC driver.
