Coreservicesd 100% cpu on 10.6 and quicksilver
I've been suffering from teh 100% coreservicesd race condition for a while. I've searched around for a long time before finding a discussion thread that hinted at the issue I'm having - quicksilver.
The problem was with the 'Dock' being in one of the 'Catalogue' items.
1. right click on quicksilver menu icon
2. select 'Catalog'
3. select 'User'
4. uncheck 'Dock'
As soon as I did this, coreservicesd cpu usage immediately dropped.
TBauer, I had the same problem with 10.6.8 using 100% of the CPU with Parallels 6 installed. The following steps solved this problem for me:
0. Take a screen shot of your Dock if you wish to remember it as currently set
1. Launch Activity Monitor and click on the CPU column so you can see Dock using the CPU
2. Move ///Users/ ... /Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist to the trash
3. Click on Dock and click on Quit Process to stop the Dock
OS X will then rebuild the default Dock
4. Put the items back in the Dock that you want
That solved the problem for me yesterday morning. I've launched Parallels 6 several times now and moved the machine from my work network to home and the 100% CPU problem hasn't returned.

I don't think using the combo updater will solve the problem. The problem appears to be a .plist that is generated with OS X 10.6.7 and earlier that contains icons of a larger than Apple documented size causes the CPU looping. Rebuilding the dock.plist under OS X 10.6.8 appears to solve the problem.
Parallels has issued a knowledge bulletin saying they are looking into the problem. On their web site they have another approach involving moving the offending icon out of the dock to solve the problem. I like my solution better but theirs works, too.

every time my oracle database is hanging when the application run, the problem is the oracle.exe consum 100% CPU but not memory and the server hang and the dabase is going to inaccessible, we need to restart oracle instance service or server to bring the databas eback to normal but it's not permanent because the problem occurs once the application turn on.

I have had this happen before on a 32bit Windows server. Our problem was a poorly written procedure that kept pegging the cpu to 100%. You should be able to figure out what SQL is being used that is causing this problem, it will be the Top Working SQL most likely.
I also had this problem on a Logical Standby server which was trying to apply SQL to the SYS.AUD$ table. As soon as SQL Apply was started, the CPU went to 100%. Once I truncated that table, the cpu usage went back to normal. Not sure what you are using to monitor your database but if you can, try to find out what SQL is running when your CPU goes to 100%. -
Lion installed no problem but WebDNAMonitor shows as 100% cpu in Activity Monitor and is still there after a restart. I made sure there were no log in items starting up. Anybody else seeing this?
That process probably belongs to WebDNA software. Unless it is mission critical software you might want to delete it and contact the developer about the problem. Since it is independently running a process I would expect you would need to run WebDNA's uninstaller to completely remove the program or search for all its bits and pieces to delete manually.

CORESERVICESD takes 90%-100% CPU about 5 minutes after every fresh start
So, coreservicesd process takes 90-100% cpu after a fresh start. It doesn't start immediately after login but about 3-5 minutes after, and it happens +every time+ i start my computer and it lasts about 10 minutes or so before it stops eating the cpu.
I haven't figured out any way to stop this behavior. I've reset smc, emptyed /Library/Caches, clean installed Snow Leopard (without restoring from Time Machine backup) but nothing seems to help.
Does anyone here know what to do in my situation or does anyone have any new ideas what should I try to do? I appreciate every response.OK folks, problem solved. At least mine is. No coreservcesd eating cpu anymore! Hurray! This is the second time I boot and the computer seems to run perfectly. If the coreservicesd problem comes back I'll report here.

20. Booted from SL install dvd and ran Disk Utility's repaid disk & repair premissions.
After these operations my mac runs faster and all errors in the Console log are gone! All steps (except 1, 2 and 20) can be preformed with different maintenance apps. I used an app called MainMenu.

100% CPU using LabView 7.1 and DSC module
Seven years ago I used BridgeView and PXI to execute a project, and the results were so good that after that initial system, I installed one more using BridgeView, and three more using LabView 7.1.
BridgeView is working very well, but lately, LabView 7.1 is giving me more and more problems. It all started in a system running LabView 7.1 and DSC on Windows XP, using a PXI-8187 controller with a PXI-1042 chassis. I have two PXI-6533 digital I/O boards, one PXI-6030E multifunction, one PXI-6713 analog output board, one PXI-6602 counter board and one PXI-8422 serial com. board. In may/06, all of the sudden, the CPU went to a 100% use. Since I am running PID's to control a flash-butt welding machine in a steel factory, this was extremely dangerous. I changed the controller and everything went back to normal. It was running fine until december/06, when the same behavior appeared again. This time changing the controller did not help. We increased the system memory, from 256 MB to 512 MB and everything worked fine. But one month later (january/07) the fault reappeared. This time we changed the chassis and from that moment to this time, we are running smoothly.
Application problems were suspect from the very first time this problem appeared, but I was unable to identify the source, if any. I used PROFILE VI's and apparently the write/read tags were taking all the processor resources. However, changing the routines and disabling communications, and optimizing CPU intensive programs never solved the CPU overload.
Until now, I was aware of only one system showing this erratic behavior. But today I went to check another system, with a totally different application. This one is used to measure the thickness of the steel sheet on a rolling mill. Is not so resource-intensive, but the maintenance folks told me that every time they turned off this particular system, they always had problems trying to turn it on.
I was suspecting of a PLC-communication related issue, but what I found turned my alarms on. I turned off the system, which was fully functional, and turned it back on, and there it was, CPU load at 100%!. Is exactly the same problem that I have on the welder. This system has a PXI-8184, a PXI-1042 chassis, Windows XP, one PXI-6030E, one PXI-6713 and one PXI-6533. I battled for 20 minutes to put the system back in normal conditions.
I specified every single board, installed everything and programmed all the applications. The BridgeView applications have never showed anything like this. I am using the DSC (Datalogging and Supervisory Control Module) on both applications, and the Lookout Protocol Drivers are communicating to Modicon PLC's.
Please, I need help to solve this issue. I believe none of your actual Knowledge Base "100% CPU" articles apply to my case...

Yes, sometimes I have the feeling that the systems works again because some file or database gets initialized after so many reboots.
Intentionally I turned off all the events and alarm logging to disk. Also the historical data logging is disabled. This is done by code, every time the main VI is started. This was included precisely to save CPU processing power. However, I am communicating to PLC's, and of course I have to declare variables inside the citadel database to make the communication possible.
Right now I can't have access to the application, because the mill is rolling, but during the next maintenance stop I will check the database location and size, and I could change the directory location the next time the fault comes up. -
The mdnsresponder will not quit. Consumes above 100% CPU and kills my battery. Also causes my fan to run constantly and my computer to get extremely hot. Force quitting doesn't work. It just comes back. I posted about this earlier and never got an answer. Somebody, please help.
Thanks.mDNSResponder is a background process that runs all the time. If you kill it, it's relaunched automatically.
Please launch the Console application and select "system.log" from the file list. Enter "mDNSResponder" (without the quotes) in the search field. Post a sample of the log messages in the Console window -- only one example of each repeated message, please. -
Our web server is stuck at 100% CPU. Three days ago we were on CF9 and started running into this problem until the server crashed and wasn't salvageable. Luckily we had a fresh Windows 2008 Server R2 ready to go with a fresh copy of CF11 on it. I copied all the website files over and we were back up and running. A day later the CPU is back to 100% on the new CF11 Windows 2008R2 server. I also updated CF11 to the latest update 3 that was just released.
If I turn off the CF service the CPU usage goes back to normal. If I turn CF back on, the CPU goes back to 100% within like 5 seconds. So it doesn't seem like some slow running page or anything that eventually eats up all the memory or whatever. I'm not an expert at looking at the logs, but I don't see anything too out of the ordinary. The one thing that looks strange to me is I see this line over and over.

I did up my JVM heap size and max size to 1024MB. We have 4GB of memory. And i changed teh JVM arguments to what's below based on a forum post. Nothing seems to help.

I did find some unusual files that were loaded though that I know we didn't put there. I did a search and found this link that shows the code. Coldfusion CFIDE bitcoin mining exploit – PHP involved… | code-complete.com and that you mention in your article too. I don't see any of the executables running or files that were mentioned though. I found that code in 8 different spots though and removed them. Maybe our old server had the executables and hacked files on them. Hard to know as it won't boot up anymore!
I think I did possibly isolate the HTTP request {URL='http://zzen1wbudopwg.nchyt.com/encfm/en0024-ssj5iway6wvg/cbeim94a1s2kebu.php?do=218', method='get'} in the http.log file to a certain site in IIS though. And it wasn't our main site. I turn off this website in IIS and it appears the weird request goes away. I turn the site back on and it starts to re-appear. It doesn't always load constantly so it's a little hard to tell. This site is pretty small. I went through each file on the site and did find one file that did appear to be hacked. It wasn't coldfusion code though. Just some html links. I removed it. That's all I could find. No cfhttp calls or anything else.
We re-installed Coldfusion 11 on Friday as well and upgraded to Update 3. It doesn't stay locked at 100% as much right now, but it being over the weekend we don't get much traffic. Monday will be the real test. I think I will leave that smaller site turned off for now and see how things perform. I'm doing a full virus scan for the heck of it overnight too. Don't really expect it to find anything though. I also turned on advanced logging in IIS 7.5 and don't see anything out of the ordinary. I made sure client variables weren't in the registry either.

Firefox 3.6.12 is running extremely slow and taking 100% CPU on my mac.
Just updated Firefox to 3.6.12 and it's taking over 100% CPU on one of my processors and is running EXTREMELY slow, too slow to use.
Firefox used to be the doggs bollocks now its just a dog.

Finder and loginwindow use 100% cpu with 10.6.8
I recently installed the patch to OS X 10.6.8 and now the finder is very unstable and uses 100% cpu and the loginwindow uses 100% cpu also. Yes I have Parallels 6 on this machine but I already "un-checked" the "show windows applications in doc" option which is the recommended solution. However, this did not fix the problem. I do not know how to determine what actual process is causing this finder / loginwindow issue. I very much appreciate if anyone has suggestion how to fix this problem.
This is on a mid-2011 MacBookPro.

Distiller 8 and 9 both locking up, 100 % CPU usage
Not sure if its related, but probably, since it happened right after...I just transferred everything from my quad core mac pro to my new 8-core Mac Pro. Everything went well, but now Distiller 8 starts and then sits and gives the beachball of death, and one of the cores shows 100% cpu usage. (I have that utility that shows memory used, CPU usage, etc.). I hadn't bought Acrobat 9 yet so I downloaded it and installed, and Distiller 9 does the EXACT same thing. The ONLY thing I can call an "error message" is that I can see in the window after it launches is "Error in /Library/Application Support/Adobe PDF/Settings/PDFX4 2007.joboptions:/CheckCompliance out of Range."
That message may have been there whole time, even when it worked, though. I don't know. At any rate, I need distiller working! Any ideas?Glad to hear all is well. Preference files can cause big problems. Eons
ago, in the 1980s, I used a communications program called Red Ryder. I
loved the program. After it was updated to a new version (it might have
been called White Knight by that time), I started to have terrible
problems. I wrote to their technical support. They couldn't duplicate
the problem. It couldn't happen etc. I eventually got a little hot under
the collar. After all, if I couldn't use my modem, I couldn't check my
email, etc. It turned out to be a problem with my preference file when
converted to the latest version, that was causing the problem. Since
they always started with a new preference file, they couldn't duplicate
the problem that was obvious to me.

ITunes will uses 100% cpu and will not close in OSX Lion
When I start up iTunes, after a few minutes, the fan kicks on and Activity Monitor shows that it is using 100% CPU. The fan kicks up and the MBP gets warm. I have to force close to get it to shut down. iTunes match is constantly running, so maybe that has something to do with it?
I'm not running it in Mini Player mode or anything like that, so I'm not sure what's causing the problem. Any thoughts on how to diagnose it?I also have this problem which has been getting worse with recent successive updates of Firefox. As a long-time user and advocate, I am about ready to look for an alternative browser. Firefox will not close and exit properly, requiring direct cancellation through Task Manager; starts up very slowly (often 1 to 2 minutes); and frequently locks up the CPU with 100% of cycles while doing NOTHING; offers to restart crashed sessions, but cannot recover and reload those sessions; will not operate correctly while any other application accesses the internet, like uTorrent. Firefox is set to delete cookies, etc. whenever the session closes, sqlite database is vacuumed regularly, CCleaner regularly wipes remaining accretions, and disk is defragged. Currently running 3.5.5 but will NOT upgrade until this problem is solved since later builds report the same problems. I know several other users who have experienced the same problem and I can no longer automatically recommend Firefox to users and clients. Is anybody paying any attention to this problem? What is being done to address this fault? Why is there no response to the original poster? Is this really a support forum or just a way to preoccupy and distract the users who suffer this malfunction? Wireless 54Mbps connection. Genius updating taking 100%+ CPU time and error 13011
Does anyone else have the issue of iTunes updating Genius causing their CPU usage to max out run the cooling fan at full speed?
Im getting an average of 100%+ CPU usage while its updating or compiling or whatever its doing and Macbook cooks whiles its doing so.
Activity Monitor is reporting ridiculously high CPU usage. How do you even get 108% CPU usage?? Can someone explain that for me?
Im also getting the message 'unable to save library' with error 13011 at the end of Genius updating (the Genius update progress bar is full).
Can anyone give me some pointers as to what I can do to check why i'm getting these issues or if there is resolution?
Killing the Genius data gathering solves the CPU usage issue straight away but I'm sure it wasnt this bad before Snow Leopard.

All programs using 100% CPU, freezing, crashing, -10810, -600, and -1712 errors
Okay, so. I have a Macbook Pro from December 2012, a little over a year old.
Version 10.9.1, running Mavericks
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 8 GB
Startup Disk - Macintosh HD
I can send more info if I need to. I'm a graphic designer using Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign usually simultaneously, as well as Spotify, Messages, Sparrow (mail), Stickies, Tweetdeck, and Evernote. I also use a wireless mouse, drawing tablet, and second screen. This has never been a problem (I mean, my old computer had 4 GB memory and handled these programs just fine, except for Final Cut Pro 7) up until recently.
For the last two months, my computer has been seriously out of whack.
I'm constantly having to refresh finder
Every time I open Google Chrome, all of my extentions crash immediately and any website I try to go to is extremely sluggish (but Safari works)
The dock freezes
Constant error messages: 1712, 10810, 600
Audio fails randomly
Overall, the problem seems to be that I can't do more than one thing at a time -- I can't take a screenshot if more than two programs are open, I can't open DMG files, I can't open Spotify if any Creative Suite program is open. I've been watching the activity monitor, and it seems like each program is trying to use 100% CPU, which doesn't seem right. I have to close every program to work in Photoshop, which makes me miss calls and emails.
I've tried restarting in safe mode, verifiyng the disk and repairing permissions, I used time capsule to restore to a time before it was happening, and restored my user profile in Chrome. I'm at my complete wit's end trying to figure this out! I feel like my next step is to just reinstall my OS completely, but that would be a major setback for getting my work done, and I'm not even sure that would work.
I've looked on other forums and it seems like the Mail app typically causes problems, but I don't even use it, I use Sparrow.

I have the same issue since a couple of days. Nothing that I found in the community (rebuilding launch info using Onyx or manually deleting the apple.com-launch prefs) has helped me so far. Only some apps are affected (PasswordWallet 4.7.4 among them).
I can launch it once and it will run fine as long as it’s open. Next time it refuses to open displaying the error -10810 message instead. I trash the app and use a fresh one off the vendor’s dmg file I downloaded and the sequence repeats.

FF 20 and Flas 11 = 100% CPU - Opera, IE8, Chrome are all OK. FIX IT!
I am absolutely sick and tired of hearing excuses about why FF is not to be blamed when it chews 100% CPU with the Adobe Flash plugin.
I have done all the dancing around I am willing to endure. I have even downgraded to FF18 and FF19. No friggin setting works. Nothing. IT IS IN THE CODE!! FIX IT!!!
It is simply NOT acceptable that ANY other browser in the known universe works OK with Flash BUT FF.
It is time that devs acknowledge this and do something about it instead of scratching their butts!
PLEASE do not get me more links to troubleshooting pages, either from Windows, Adobe or FF.
I'll repeat: IT IS IN THE FRIGGIN CODE. FIX IT!!!Also IE uses a Active version of Flash and Chrome comes with its own Flash though it can use Adobe version if pepper version is disabled.
Adobe has been making a buggy Plugin for Windows ever since they came out with the Flash 11.3 version.
