Correlation process

1. what is correlation in BPM..
2. what are all the steps involved in correlation..

Correlation as the name implies is used to correlate Messages.
Consider a case when you have multiple Recive Steps in a BPM in a fork. Consider when one of the messages is available immdeiately, BPM picks the message and waits for the second message. Even before the seconds message is available , if the first messsage becomes available again, another BPM is started and you have multiple BPM's in the wait state. Now, when the first message is recived, how will you determine which BPM thsi message belongs to.
Correaltion is thus used in such cases to help identify / group messages.

  • Deadline Branche in Correlation Process - Best Practice

    Hello,
    I have an integration process with a correlation - there is a asynchronous send step which activates a correlation and afterwards an asynchronous receive step that uses that correlation.
    Furthermore I have a deadline branch to cancel the process after 24 hours.
    My question now is:
    There could be (rare) cases where a message arrives later than 24 hours, so according to my understanding the received message will block the inbound queue as no active correlation can be found anymore. Is this correct? How can I avoid this situation, I guess a blocked queue would also block other messages that are sent to the integration process?
    What would be best practice to handle such a scenario? I could leave the process intance open for 1 month, however this might have a significant impact on system performance.....
    Thank you for your advice.

    There could be (rare) cases where a message arrives later than 24 hours, so according to my understanding the received
    essage will block the inbound queue as no active correlation can be found anymore
    No correlation found error will occur only when the BPM instance is running and the message tries to enter into the relevant receive step (not the first one)
    However when you say the process is cancelled you need not worry about the message going into the queue and blocking the BPM queue.
    Regards,
    Abhishek.

  • BPM processes,receiving signals (events) & correlation to existing instance

    Hi,
    BPM 11g/SOA Suite 11g (R1 PS2)
    I am wondering whether it is possible to receive signals (EDN events) into a running process instance. The documentation describes how a process can be started by an event. I would like to be able to feed an event (signal) into a running process (just like we do with correlation in BPEL processes). Is that possible - and if so, how?
    Along the same lines, can BPM processes receive messages through externally exposed WebService operations - into correlated process instances? For example: I have started the process to create a new employee in the organization and I want to inform the process instances taking care of this employee that she will start on a later date than originally assumed (or not at all because she has accepted another job). I know the unique employee id for this new hire. How can I configure the BPM process such that this incoming call after the instance has started is fed into a Receive activity in the process instance working on this employee?
    Maybe a similar is question would be: can a message catch event be used without a corresponding message throw event - to catch incoming messages asynchronously and not related to a message sent by the process instance.
    thanks very much for your insights,
    Lucas

    I also tried DB Adapters and it is not working for my scenario. Needed help/pointers from a BPM Guru \.
    As per my business scenario, If there any update in the database (offline approval. not using worklist) then i should complete the running BPM process for approval.
    1. To achieve this, I created a adapter to poll and it is working in polling. What is not working is picking the update in process and mark is closed/complete.
    2. I tried using Catch Event with continuation mode (but it needs throw event to begin with).
    3. I also tried ‘Receive event’, which also needs start event for continuation.
    4. If i use Initiate mode for catch event then it initiate a new process and mark it close and does not do anything with original process (having this catch event). This catch event is still waiting.
    5. If i use “receive” event with Initiate mode then jdeveloper is giving compilation time error saying that some service is not referenced in composite.
    6. I have also tried other options of using “Sub-process” or another process and invoking it but nothing seems to work.
    Any help/pointers? Thanks a lot.

  • Use ccBPM mainly for correlation between different systems

    your insights will be most wellcome.

    ccBPM offers achieving some difficult requirements easily , that means some cases using standard way of integration not possible .it is true that ccBPM scenarios uses one more layer(BPE engine) but it doesn't mean that it is going to give worst performance.
    i had done couple of implementations where we used extensively ccBPM to achive complex integration logics, i never felt ccBPM performance point of view any problems, all interfaces working perfectly in production.my view is it is really awesome.
    we have to design any interfaces by following best architectural standards in case of ccBPM also same,there is so much negative publicity about ccBPM, but is it not all true.
    the thing that intrigues me the most is the reference to different systems .

    it is a good practise to use ccBPM in this case and it is offering correlation mechanism to maintain the reaction between messages so that you can easily differentiate and suppress the unwanted messages.

  • No accounts showed up after running reconcillatio with SAP HR adapter

    Good afternoon all,
    I have an urgent question with the SAP HR adapter and I cannot resolve it for three days. You help will be greatly appreciated.
    I configured SAP JCO 2.1.9 to work with IDM 8.1 SAP HR adapter. The "Test Configuration" button works on the first page of SAP HR Resource Wizard. After I ran a full reconcillation, IDM gave a status "Full reconcillation succeeded" with the following details:
    Users examined for claims 0
    Resource accounts claimed: 0
    Resource accounts discovered: 8578
    Native changes detected:
    Accounts added: 8578
    Accounts processed for reconcillation: 8578
    Correlation processing:
    Resource accounts fetched: 8578
    Accounts correlated with users: 8578
    Account state updates required: 8578
    To see the account index for the accounts in each category, click a situation type below:
    While the account index search returns nothing and listing accounts shows no accounts from SAP.
    Would you please shed some lights on what might be wrong with my configuration? Thank you very much for your help.
    Sheng

    Did you find any solution? I´m facing a similar problem: when I run the reconciliation in a few secons it ends and shows 0 for all kind of results (claims, discovered, fetched,...). In another instance it works fine so we configured this SAP resource in a similar way but doesn´t detect accounts.
    Regards.

  • VMware Performance Event Triggers use case questions.

    1) Can the CPO VMware Adapter Performance Event Triggers and their
    SAMPLE SIZE, INTERVAL, and CONDITIONS attributes be configured
    for the following use case?
    2) Can VMWare Performance Event Triggers be CORRELATED?  and if so would it be needed to satisfy the use case?
    3) Would an additional performance monitoring tool be required to satisy the use case?:
    If a VM CPU or RAM has been 80% for 2 hours then trigger a workflow
    and
    If a VM CPU or RAM has been at 60% for X days then trigger a workflow

    I will first describe how you could instrument a correlation method, but ultimately, I'm not sure it is really necessary for the uses cases described.
    To correlate VMware performance events over a designated timeframe, you would create a correlation process that tracks the underlying performance event and decides whether or not to trigger the process you want triggered when the correlated event is detected.
    Here's how it works.
    First, create a global table with three columns:
    1) Virtual Machine path
    2) Consecutive Trigger Count
    3) Last Trigger time
    Create a process that is triggered by a VMware performance event (such as Memory Avg > 80%) where you can set a sample size and interval that makes sense given the timeframe of interest (2 hours or X days). For example, a sample size of 10 and interval of 30 seconds (5 minutes) is a reasonable time slice from vCenter for a 2 hour timeframe. This results in requiring 24 consecutive triggers to raise the actual event of interest. (2 hours divided by 5 minutes)
    That is, the formula is:
    Sample Size * Interval / Timeframe = Consecutive Trigger Count
    The correlation process triggered by the raw VMware event does the following:
    1) If there is no existing entry in the global table for the VM, add entry to table with count = 1 and current time
    2) if entry exists, check the current time against the last trigger time
       a) if it is the next interval, for example, current time is 12:15 and last triggered time was 12:10 (see note below),
            Increment counter and set last trigger time
            If count = 24, then run the process that handles the "VM Memory Avg > 80% for at least 2 hours " and delete entry from table.
           If count < 24, the process exits having only incremented the counter and set the last trigger time
       b) if the current time is > than last trigger time + time slice (+ a little padding), set the counter back to 1
    Note: When comparing current time w/last time, you should pad to account for slight processing delays so compare current-time < last-time+(time slice*2). Anything less than 10 minutes in this case would be considered a consecutive trigger. You could also compare current-time < last-time+time-slice+1, which is probably also safe.
    Now, having gone through all that, you may not need the correlation process after all. Simply adjust your sample size to be large enough to accommodate your ultimate timeframe and you can trigger your event handler directly without the need to correlate. So for the 2 hour window, just create a sample size of 240 (* 30 seconds = 2 hours). This may or may not work depending on how performance metrics have been configured on the server (sample size, intervals and how much is saved). You can only set your own sample and intervals to multiples of those configured values (so be careful and refer to the VMware documentation when relying on such metrics)
    You may find that the correlation method I first described is more reliable, especially for longer timeframes such as X days (where you need to sample hourly rather than every 5 minutes).
    In any case, I think you can do what is asked without external monitoring, but it will require some experimentation and a deeper knowledge of how performance metric sampling works for ESX.

  • Using the same correlation set to multiple instances of the same process

    Hi all,
    Assuming that I have a Purchase Order with multiple items and I have a BPEL process that is triggered for each item.
    When the Purchase Order is cancelled by the customer, I want to cancel all BPEL process that is still running. I'm using SOA Suite 11.1.1.2.
    My first attempt was to use an event handler associated to a cancellation operation, but I couldn't do this because when the second BPEL instance was started, a conflictingReceive BPEL Fault is triggered. This occurs because BPEL can't have more than one active receive/on message using the same correlation set.
    Another way to do this is using a different correlation set for each instance (somethig like a composite key - Purchase Order ID + Item ID, i.e), but in this way I need to know all composite key in advance and send one message to each instance specifically.
    Anyone have any suggestion of how to cancel more then one instance of the same BPEL process using Event or a generic way that does not need to send one message for each instance?
    Events work very well to start more then one BPEL process but does not work well to receive an intermediate message during process execution because in this case we need correlation set to associate the event with the correct instance and BPEL does not support more then one instance of the same BPEL process waiting for the same correlation set.
    Any suggestion will be very welcome.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rafael

    Never mind. I got it.
    I put the iisforward.dll and .ini is a seperate folder, and edited the iisproxy.ini's to include the portnumber like this. And I changed the hostheaders in IIS to Site1, Site2 etc
    vhost1=Site1:80
    Site1:80=C:\Sites\Site1\iisproxy.ini
    vhost2=Site2:80
    Site2:80=C:\Sites\Site2\iisproxy.ini
    vhost3=Site3:80
    Site3:80=C:\Sites\Site3\iisproxy.ini

  • Invoking existing instance from a process without correlation

    Hi,
    I want to find out if I can do this.
    Suppose that instance A was created by others. Instance B of different process wants to invoke instance A. But they do not have a correlation.
    This is a part of problem that we want to solve to fix issues in deployed process. Instance A is waiting for user response and we have been invoking this instance A from Java code.
    But we want to have a intermediate bpel process B to call instance A. Java code is going to call process B. Because process A is deployed without correlation and active in production, we cannot use correlation to find instance.
    I may be able to use programmatic approach using InstanceHandle. But I want to find a way to invoke this in bpel.
    Can you give me some hint?
    Thanks,
    Imju

    If my method is now defined as so;
    public <T extends GenericDaoImpl> T getDao( Class<T> daoClazz )
    return daoClazz.newInstance();
    The IDE flags up an error "This method must return a result of type T"
    So I think I'm missing something. I have defined an abstract generic DAO helper class to be extended by child DAOs;
    public abstract class GenericDaoImpl<T, PK extends Serializable>
    CRUD methods
    findBy(...) methods
    where T is the class type & PK the primary key.
    So presumably my getDao(...) method should be defined as;
    public <T extends GenericDaoImpl<T, PK>> T getDao( Class<T> daoClazz )
    return daoClazz.newInstance();
    But it then cannot resolve PK to a type. I think I'm either trying to impose a type on the signature when
    it should (obviously?) be generic, or presuming that it will evaluate my generic type which I have somehow
    not exposed to the method / signature.
    Am I missing something subtle or just being stupid.

  • How to get the name of correlation item in OM through event processing scripts?

    I am trying to write a groovy script in OM event processing scripts, I want that script to read the event correlation and set custom attributes accordingly. I am unable to read the correlation item. Please guide me how to get it? What method should I use to get the correlation item? I am using OPR library.

    Hi there,
    the name property would be the correct attribute to get the subform name, just by looking at the code it doesn't seem like it's doing the right thing
    I am assuming that you send Main in the function countChk() which would look something like this
    countChk(Main);
    And you probably want to make sure you are entering the right subform so you need to keep that loop at the end of the function
    but if you want to get through all the checkboxes inside that subform you must do a loop through that node to find each checkbox
    I am assuming that the function would probably look something like this
    function countChk(vNode) {//Starts vNode with Main
         for (var i = 0; i < vNode.nodes.length; i++) {
              if (vNode.nodes.item(i).className === "field") {
                   if (vNode.ui.oneOfChild.className === "checkButton") {
                        if (vNode.items.nodes.length > 1) {
                             if (vNode.value.oneOfChild.value == 1) {
                                  nChk++ ;
              }else if (vNode.nodes.item(i).className === "subform"){
                   if (vNode.nodes.item(i).name === "Door_Subform"){
                        countChk(vNode.nodes.item(i));
         }//endloop
    Hope this help!

  • Integration Process: Infinite loop without correlation

    Hello,
    we have an IP which receives IDocs, maps them and makes SOAP-Calls to the destination synchron.
    We need no correlation. Mapping is complex an takes some time.
    Since this is an mass-interface, we can see the messages buffered for the IP in XBQO$PE_WS...
    In order overcome this performance lack we want to process let's say 3 Idocs simultaneously.
    According to "How To… Configure Inbound Processing in ccBPM" i need to bring the Receive
    Step into an infinite loop step, so that there is always an open Receive-Step:
    <Begin loop infinite>
       - Receive-IDoc
       - Transformation-Step
       - Send-Step (SOAP)
       - Check Result
       - ErrorMessage if neccessary
    <End loop>
    But in this case an correlation is obligatory?
    How can we implement sim. processing without correlation?
    Regards Gunnar.

    Gunnar, I don't think, you can yimprove this scenario and enable processing of more idocs simultanously. System processes the messages as fast, as it can.
    Once, we had some problems with IDoc processing in BPM - it was slow. So my friend just added some available processes (increased this number in system settings) and it started to work fine. So, I think, there is no improvement possible in BPM, by try some system settings. I'm sorry, I can't tell you, which setting it exactly was, cos' I don't know, but try to ask some BASIS guys.

  • Process not getting correlated and going into manual recovery stage

    Hi
    I have developed a bpel process which implements correlation. I have unit tested it and is working fine. But am encountering issues in case of load.
    The process which should correlate to the running process is going into manual recovery and the correlation is not happening. Whenever is restart the managed server, and then recover the instance things are getting completed and correlation is happening.
    Can some one suggest what might be the problem in this case
    Thanks in advance

    Sumit,
    This occurs because your process has not dehydrated to the dehydration store yet.
    The process has not failed but it is waiting for a response from some partner link in your BPEL process. This can be common when calling async ESBs and the ESB fails.
    To try and debug this you will need to look at the domain.log and see if any error is generated. Have a look at your BPEL process and see what partner link cal cause a failure yet not send a response back.
    Is the DB adapter the only partner link or are there others?
    cheers
    James
