Corrupted clip import from DV: cut into multiple clips, wrong date

After importing DV tapes into iMovie '09, especially older ones, many takes are wrongly cut into multiple clips, some having the correct recording date & time, others having the current date & time. I have a single take, 32 minutes, cut into 685 tiny clips! All out of order... It's almost impossible to puzzle them in the correct order (and I lack the time).
Can iMovie be set to disregard timestamp info from the tape, and simply put clips in the order they are received from the tape? I could easily set the date & time by hand, and even make it understand it's one take, but not if it's a clip puzzle... Help!

Can imovie HD run on 10.6? I tried to install it and it said I needed iLife 08 installed first.
Yes. It works fine.
You have 6.0.4, you want 6.0 > 6.0.3 ONLY. 6.0.4 looks for iLife '08.
You can get iMovie 06 in a number of ways. You cannot download it FROM APPLE any longer (it was free for a time). You can also find iMovie 06 on the iLife 06 install disc. You can buy iLife 06 on Amazon or eBay. WELL WORTH EVERY PENNY!
iMovie 6.0.4 requires that iLife 08 is already installed. iMovie 6.0 thru iMovie 6.0.3 has no such requirement. There are no known functional differences between 6.0.3 and 6.0.4. If you install iMovie 06 from the iLife 06 disk it will probably be version 6.0 or 6.01. However you can update the software to 6.0.3 from Apple's Web site.

If you want to have both iMovie 06 and iLife 09 (and most do) just install iMovie 06 first, then iLife 09. You are now UN-STOPPABLE!
Also when you install iLife 08 or 09, iMovie 06 is not removed from the computer. Previous editions of iMovie were always un-installed when "upgrading" in the past. Apple leaves iMovie 06 on your system, because they want you to have it. iMovie 06 works great with iDVD 09.

Video clips imported from an iPhone into iMovie ver 6 are rotated 90 degrees; how can I fix this or avoid it?

iMovie works best with uncompressed audio. If your track is MP3 or AAC, you may get better results by converting your track to the AIFF format and then using that in iMovie.
You can do this in iTunes. Go to iTunes/Preferences and click the General button. On the General page, click the Import Settings button. Choose IMPORT USING: AIFF ENCODER.
(note: remember what you changed it from so you can change it back later, before you import another CD)
Now, in iTunes, select your track. Then click FILE/CREATE NEW VERSION/AIFF VERSION.

  • Compressing and importing from Final Cut into Flash

    Hi,
I am trying to import a short film into Flash to create a swf file which I want to use on the web.
I compressed the film to a smaller Quicktime film and imported it into Flash, worked fine, but I don't get any sound.I did mark the box import audio.
    Any suggestions?
    thanks
    Silke

extract the audio from your original movie and attach it to your SWF
dunno too much about Flash, but you should try importing your audio and video as seperate assets
or forget flash - u could just put it up as a movie (QT,MP4,WMV(!).....) or create an animated gif (e.g. with fireworks) and attach the audio file to it......
    good luck!

  • Import from Final Cut Pro not working correctly

I have a very simple project in FCP. (Ver 6) It is a HD clip that is about 5 min long with 7 chapter markers.
I exported the project as an XML file and imported that into Premiere Pro empty project.
I wind up with two assets, a .mov with same name as the .mov in FCP and a sequence with the same named sequence in FCP.
Right clicking on the .mov and selecting "New sequence from clip" creates a new sequence with the .mov on the timeline.
    There are no markers.
Right clicking on the sequence asset and selecting "New sequence from clip" creates another sequence with the same name and the .mov on the timeline.
The markers are inside the .mov and audio tracks, not up on the top ruler line where markers appear when manually adding markers.
The keystrokes to move to markers do not work.
The "Clear all Markers" function is greyed out , like it is when no markers exist.
If a "Dynamic link to Encore is performed, there is no markers in Encore.
If you enter chapter markers manually and look at the project file (an XML file) you will see indexes with the chapter points , durations and names as children named "Markers" with attribute"ObjectID='22'.under "//PremiereData"
Following , in sequential order, are subsequent objects "Markers", ObjectID='23" through "ObjectID=n
However, if you look at the project file after importing a FCP project, this same function occurs, except that it is "Markers" "ObjectID=30 with the indexes and marker data 31 through n (further down in the file). This area is empty when adding the markers manually in Premiere Pro.
FYI , the project file is littered with the word "Marker" and "Markers" throughout the file, only their attributes make any node unique.
I am at 99.9 &% finished with a VB program to create / modify nodes, values and attributes, except that the XML date changes format at the node named "//WorkspaceSettings" so I am not able to edit values to make a file that will not crash when opening.
I would very much like the import from Final Cut Pro to work, or someone explain how to work with the nodes under "//WorkspaceSettings"
    Thank millions for a solution.

It's a 2007 iMac with 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.  I had been using Final Cut Pro without any problems right until I upgraded to Yosemite.  I'm hoping that upgrading to Yosemite doesn't mean I can't continue using Final Cut Pro - that would be extremely frustrating.

  • Import broke down movie into equal clips of 0.01  duration. How can I join them back into the actual length recorded on the camera

My recent import from my camera into imove resulted in the entire video being seperated into many equal lengh mini clips with a duration of 0.01 seconds.  When playining through these it is sped to quick to even see what is going on.  What happened to cause this?

('cause then i can walk away and it makes the separate shoots into separate clips .. instead of having to sit at FCP for hours to log them individually)
FPC has a feature called DV Start/Stop Detect.  You can Cature Now an entire tape and run the Start/Stop detect and it will separate each of your clips based on the metedata.  It will recognize each individual time you started then stopped recording by placing a marker at the beginning of each clip.  Then you drop all the markered shots into a new bin and it makes subclips out of them.  Easy.  You can read more about it in the manual. It's a very helpful tool.

  • Cutting into new clips without using " Transition effects"

What is the best way to cut into new clips in a smooth fashion without having to use a Cross Dissolve, etc. I am trying to create a more matter of fact experience with this project.
TV productions successfully go from clip to clip without transitions.... What magic is behind solid swithcing between clips in the timeline without using transitions ?
    Thanks !
    Power Book G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I have just noticed that you are talking about rescuing a current project.
My comments about cutaways still apply, but whether you will be able to shoot some "extra" footage now will depend on the nature of your film. Most things are possible with a little ingenuity.
If your film was about the first Mars landings and you can't get there to re-shoot, all you need to do is to take a trip to Australia where they have some scenery EXACTLY like the Martian landscape - indeed there is a classified US base on the edge of it!
Alternatively, and cheaper, you could shoot domestic footage and whenever the astronaut was about to have a jump-cut, you could have a flashback to his home life.
So with a little imagination most problems usually can be overcome.
    Ian.
PS.I do NOT subscribe to conspiracy theories and would never suggest that the martian landscapes NASA filmed were actually shot in the antipodes.

Hi All, We are in to Release 11.5.10.2.There is a specific requirement to Prevent users from creating Manual Sales Orders in Oracle and  yet users should be able to book the Sales Orders Imported from CRM system into Orcale. Please advise.

    Thanks for your advise.
However, I missed to mention that we have two set of users  One is for Finished Goods and another for Spares.
Only Spares users need to be prevented from creating Direct/Manual Sales Orders in Oracle.
As you suggested, if this will be done at Form level, that may Disallow FG users also to create Manula Sales Orders which should not be the case.
Further, I tried to test one scenario through Processing Constraints but it did not work.

Maybe one of the following file names could help
    (have never tried it):
    ''abc.eif''
    ''POC_AW\abc.eif''Yes,
you don't need the slash. CDA is like setting a default directory.

  • I can't import from my iPhone into Aperture anymore

Since upgrading last night to 10.10.3 and running the new Photos app, I'm unable to import from my iPhone into Aperture. My iPhone does not show up in the Import pane. Anybody else seeing this? or am I missing something?

I agree that Apple screwed Aperture users. I don't understand why. Over the last few years, Apple has dumbed down some applications which makes those apps much less useful. Then they slowly start adding some functions back in for a couple of years then nothing. Look at Pages. It still is missing features that the old pages had.
Apple should have simply given Aperture to everybody and maybe implemented a Simple User function for those people that don't need professional features. Here was an app ready to go and what does Apple do? Get rid of Aperture to come up with a "toy" replacement, as somebody on these discussion boards mentioned. I'm very disappointed in Apple and the direction that some of these apps are taking. I used to enthusiastically push Apple products to everybody but now I mind my own business. It's a sad state of affairs. The whole quality has gone down. All this reminds me of Apple before Steve Jobs took over. Somebody needs to crack the whip over there and focus on quality and useful apps AND listen to the users.

  • Save a single clip out of a file of multiple clips

Hello:  I have a VHS video tape that was used to archive multiple scenes shot by a DV camera.  I can load the entire VHS tape as a single file into Adobe Premiere Elements 12 and have cut the source into multiple clips.  What I would like to do now is save each clip as a separate .avi file so that I can then import same to the Organizer.
I have found the Export item under the File menu hoping that is the command that will enable me to save (export) clips as separate .avi files but I can't understand how to enable it.
Am I on the right track with the Export command or are there other ways to save separate clips as individual .avi files to my PC?
Any and all help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    John

    MonkinJack
    Short version...
Premiere Elements 12 File Menu/Export is now for Title only and only after the copy of the Title is highighted in Expert workspace Project Assets.
"Project file" was never part of the equation with File Menu/Export even when it included Movie besides Title choice. So I am not sure where John is coming from when he write "File-Export is for your project file....." The project file is a .prel file; the title file is a .prtl file.
Details About Exports AVI Files from Premiere Elements 12/12.1...
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? For now, I will assume Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit. I will also assume that you are in a NTSC and not PAL setup.
The File Menu/Export/Movie has not been a feature in Premiere Elements since Premiere Elements 7. If you want to export the Timeline as  DV AVI standard or widescreen in Premiere Elements 12/12.1, then you use Publish+Share/Computer AVI with Presets = DV NTSC Standard or DV NTSC Widescreen.
Important: Publish+Share/Computer/ has many choices. It might appear that there are only 3 choices, that is, Adobe Flash Video, MPEG, and AVCHD. But there are more. AVI is further down the list and has to be scrolled to to see. The scroll bar in thin and to the right of the choices.
Premiere Elements does not allow for more than 1 export at a time. Exporting more than one at a time might be found in a free program such as MPEG Streamclip.
Premiere Elements does allow for selective export of Timeline content. The keys to success there involve the two "must do" steps
    1. set the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar to span just the content to be exported
    and
    2. place a check mark next to "Share Work Area Bar Only" in the export settings.
The gray tabs of the Work Area Bar can be set by moving them in place with the mouse cursor or using shortcuts. For the shortcuts....
Move the Timeline Indicator to the start of the segment for export, as you hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard, hit the left bracket key [
Move the Timeline Indicator to the end of the segment for export, as you hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard, hit the right bracket key ]
Please review and consider and then we can discuss the above further if necessary.

  • Split up of events into clips, imported from VHS cassettes

I have been trying to split up events which I imported from different video cassettes, they import in one big clip into one event, but the thing is I need to split up this event into several independant events, I dont seem to be able to find a solution,
    Bye for now, Peter

I am assuming that once you have split up your Event you will create a Project for each of them in order to do your editing  etc.
What you could do is create several Projects from the one Event, thereby achieving, hopefully, the same thing.
    Try this.
From your Event create new Project ie File -- New Project. You could call this Project 1.
At top of screen select iMovie then down to Preferences.Select the Browser tab and click on "Clicking in Events Browser selects entire clip " Close the Imovie Preferences.
Click on your big clip in your Event and a yellow box will surround this whole clip .You should see that the left and right sides of this yellow box have what look like small loops or handles. Click and hold down on the handles and move the sides (left or right ) to the position where you want to start and finish a particular section. You can view these positions on your screen as you move left or right, let go of mouse when in wanted position.
You might want to expand your clip using the slider at bottom right of the Event before doing this to give you more visibility and control.
When you have positioned the left and right handles to your liking, ( covering say the first 20 minutes of your Event ) click in the yellow box, hold down and drag to your project.
Now create a new project---  Project 2  and repeat the above for the next section of your Event, and so on untill you have covered your entire Event.
If you wanted to break up your Event into say 5 sections, you have 1Event but 5 Projects.( Instead of 5 Events and 5 Projects)
Each Project can be edited as you wish.
Moving the handles left and right takes a bit of getting used to at first but you will get the hang of it quite quickly.
Hope this achieves what you were trying to get to.

  • Audio popping between clips with timeline imported from final cut xml file

So i imported a final cut timeline that was synced with pluraleyes into adobe and between all the cuts there is an audible popping noise. I've tried using audio cross fade but it seems to make it worse. How can I fix this??

If anyone else has this problem - you fix it by making sure you pan the audio to the center, not left or right.

  • Seperate video into multiple clips

So, I have a bunch of interviews that I imported in one large batch from my video camera. However, I want to seperate each interview into its own clip. How do I go about cutting the video into seperate clips?

FCP does not automatically break long captures into individual clip files. With DV media, it will do a thing called 'sub clipping'. These are pointers to a section of the larger clip that allow you to treat each element like an individual clip. This works ok except when you want to: a) work with variable speed time remaps and b) delete unused clips to archive the project.
If you want individual clip files you have two reasonable options.
    1. Log each clip then do a batch capture to bring in individual files
    2. Use a 3rd party application (eg CatDV) to break up the clips into individual editable files. This can happen at capture or at a later time.
    Have fun.

  • Any way to import from another drive and leave clips in place?

    Hi
Is there any way to import from other drives where you can leave your media in place?
Whenever I've imported clips from another drive I had to copy them to the library, while clips on the same drive as the library I could leave in place. Besides getting a bit tired of FCP treating like a kid with Alzheimer's, what would one do, say, when a drive gets full? I could see big projects needing more than a single drive.
    best
    elmer

LIke Russ said, the copy of the entire folder structure is similar to creating a camera archive. This copy or archive is treated just as if it were a camera card - in particular, "leave in place" is not available, and you have the option go import just parts of clips if you want.
so technicay even though they reside in a hard drive this is like importing from camera, as opposed to "import from file".
I Will try to describe how I handle my media. I hope this will help clarify things a bit. I am not saying thus is the way to do things, but it is my way.
I keep archives of the camera cards, which I then erase and reuse.
I import clips from my camera archives which I store as external media (copying to a folder of my choosing instead of into the library). These movie files, plus other files that I get from other sources, can be later imported and used in other libraries using "leave in place".
And all of this of course needs to be regularly backed up.
